You could get DSL...Cable suddenly got more expensive so it might be worth getting DSL since it is much faster, albeit more expensive. But if you get cable through kabelvision, CBN is a good provider.

Are you using DSL grey? how fast can you get? 128/128KB minimum? but i heard DSL have limited download capacity, is that true?

No, i use cable. Its good enough, but during peak hours it gets really slow. Some of my friends use DSL, and although its a more expensive than cable its fast all the time. I'm not so sure how fast. And i dont know if it has limited download capacity.

So how fast and how widespread broadband offering in Indonesia now?
How much money needed to have one?

Senhen, telkom now offers Telkom premium, dial up with the speed of download almost the same like "low speed cable"

I saw the speed test using a website, it was reaching 50-62Kbps. quite fast because it was during the day.

anyway, DSL is now everywhere in Jakarta, nice to see this IT development.

Sorry sanhen, i thought yo're talking about the DSL speed, lol, that was dsl modem speed test in jakarta. not the telkom premium one. the premium one was around 5,000 cps.

sorry my fault, :D

Hey GreyX, I got some question for you regarding Indovision

I have indovision now and I want to disable the subtitle on HBO, AXN and Cinemax but i couldnt. Why is that?

2nd question, do you have problem watching the program at 1AM? usually it goes blank or "sorry its still have problem, you can watch at 1AM"

Thanks Grey, I know your dad is the boss there :D

cheers

Hi together,

some information from my side - from Surabaya, JATIM.

KABELVISION: easy to say: forget it! But service, but quality of international uplink (many times the uplink is down and customer service don't know it), speed is not so fast (international sides). a 64KB - line is normally shared with 15 people. I was using a personal subscription and got one 64KB-line alone - it was better, but still not so fast like 64 KByte/s should be. Somedays someone said to me, that they only give a guarantee that 4 Kbyte/s is stabil avaible (but where this standing nobody can show me ).

DSL: since Oktober 2004 here in Surabaya SPEEDY is avaible. Direct from the TELKOM. The prices are okay, the speed is okay (much more better than Kabelvision). Since March 2005 the TELKOM offering also SPEEDY in parts of Jakarta. As far as I heared SPEEDY should come also on Bali this year (someone told me Juni - I got from a Telekom-employee the information September 2005) and also in other parts on Java.

Price information SPEEDY:
Limited Usage
Light Internet (384 kbs Down/ 64 kbs Up / 500 MByte Free monthly) === 300,000.00 IDR

Medium Internet (384 kbs Down/ 64 kbs Up / 1000 MByte Free monthly) == 450,000.00 IDR

Heavy Internet (512 kbs Down/ 64 kbs Up / 2000 MByte Free monthly) === 800,000.00 IDR

What is needed? The registration to the SPEEDY-Service (200,000.00 IDR), a splitter and a ADSL-Modem (I am using SMC, because got expierence with the products of SMC).

Enough information? Any questions? You can find more informations concerning ADSL here (http://www.telkomspeedy.com)

I am hoping this information will help a little bit.

Regards

Tom

Thanks tom, appreciate your info. I was thinking to sign up with speedy but then some of my friends complained that the billing statements were completely messed up, therefore i decided not to use it. Any idea if telkom will actually fix this problem?

cheers

I heard that Biznet will offer a direct fiber optic connection to homes starting in South Jakarta.

kusmae, that will not help much. the problem is (beside national infrastructure), is the international link to the internet backbone. it is just too slow.

probably using satellite is better, but usually the latency is big, so it is not suitable for online gaming.

Sanhen, according to my friends who works there, they will provide a very high speed connection up to several mbps for the home user. Biznet has been expanding its international link capacity aggressively since they launched the so called metro networks last year. I hope this project is going to be realized soon. :)
