View Full Version : Light Rail and Metro starts in Canada
dwdwone April 28th, 2010, 11:28 PM With a rash of new systems in the US and abroad, I am wondering what new systems Canada has planned. I've read about plans to expand the Toronto streetcars and plans for the Evergreen line in Vancouver, but not much about new rail starts in the great White North. Am I missing anything?
deasine April 29th, 2010, 05:24 AM Do you actually mean to put this post here... or in the Canadian Forum.
dwdwone April 29th, 2010, 07:53 PM I thought this was the forum for transport and infrastructure in Canada. If not, would you please direct me to the proper forum?
Thanks!

If you go to the Canada page from the main SSC page, you end up here:
http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=431
From that page is a link that says Transportation & Infrastrcture, which takes you to this foum. I appologize but I guess I'm a bit confused. Seems like this would be the forum for Transit in Canada. What am I missing?
Thanks,
Dan
deasine May 2nd, 2010, 04:35 PM Sorry, then click on Canada Urban Issues, where there is a dedicated thread. Like the American forums, the parent forum for this Transportation section is for British Columbia, not for Canada in general.

OK, thanks.
BTW, it appears that the Transportation & Infrastructure link on the main Canada page links to this forum, which I think may be a bad link, because it takes you from the general Canada threads rather than through BC. That is, the parent forum does NOT show as BC but as Canada in general.
spongeg May 3rd, 2010, 06:39 AM is there a thread?
anyway... Edmonton just finished a 7.5 km extension to the south to its line and is working on an extension of the line to the north as well as in the planning for two more lines one to millwoods - large suburb/area in the south east of the city and another line to the west - should all be done by 2015 or something like that and more planned for after that to the north east
deasine May 3rd, 2010, 03:44 PM OK, thanks.

Go look again... If you look under BC, this is what you get: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?f=498
Notice Transportation & Infrastructure is listed as a sub-forum of BC.
It is exactly set up in the same way the United States forum is set up: http://www.skyscrapercity.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=283

The environmental assessment has been approved, and the federal and provincial funds have been earmarked, but Translink still needs to find another $400 million.
realtor9991 February 14th, 2011, 06:41 AM 400M? that's a lot..hope translink can find this money soon. :)
manrush May 13th, 2011, 06:54 PM I don't know if this has been posted yet, but one of the plans for rapid transit in Greater Victoria involves the construction of a light rail network linking Victoria with its suburbs.
$1 Billion Rapid Transit line suggested for Victoria.

Greater Victoria residents will soon be asked if they want to spend close to $1 billion on a light rapid transit line.
The capital's transportation planners are recommending the construction of an LRT line running between downtown Victoria and the suburbs of Colwood and Langford.
