DOMINO'S Pizza plans to open its maiden pizza outlets in Ipoh and Malacca by as early as next year.

Dommal Food Services Sdn Bhd, the sole owner of the American pizza franchise outlets in Malaysia has been in operations here for the past 12 years, and has some 42 outlets spread across the Klang Valley, Seremban, Johor and Penang.

"We plan to open another eight outlets in the peninsular by next year," said Dommal chief operating officer Ba U Shan-Ting.

On the expansion to Perak and Malacca, Ba said the company has begun identifying potential sites and is optimistic that the outlets in the two states will be up by next year.

Ba is banking on the new outlets to help maintain Domino's double-digit growth over the next few years.

He hopes that in five years, there will be more than 100 Domino's Pizza outlets throughout the country.

As it stands now, Malaysia houses the largest number of Domino's pizza outlets in Southeast Asia.

Currently, there are 9,000 Domino's outlets worldwide, of which 4,000 are located outside the US and 1,400 in Asia Pacific.

Ba added that the company plans to create a healthier food list in the future by offering more salads and to list the calorie count of each pizza on its website.

"This is something that we are working on. Nevertheless, I know Malaysians love their pizzas and our best seller of all time is Aloha Chicken, a pizza sprinkled with chicken and pineapple toppings."

would it be in AEON melaka?

^^ by then, the new cinema in AEON should be operational... don't know which operator. all AEON has TGV, but a lot of people indicating THAT GSC will be there.

ya...by maybe middle of next year AEON will have the cinema open...but not sure which operator. alot people also said GSC but then...no news from GSC as the recent opening in Kuantan did indicate next year 2nd quarter will open in Suria Sabah. that will be their only new opening....which means highly likely GSC wont be opening in AEON. all this is hard to say....wait till AEON opens and they will surely show which operator...right now we will just have to wild guess.

Developer and Chitty folk to meet over project
By MARTIN CARVALHO and CHEN PELF YEEN

MALACCA: The developer of a proposed high-rise project and residents of Chitty Village here will meet next week to find a solution to problems arising from the project.

Malacca Historic City Council mayor Datuk Yusof Jantan said the issue was brought up for discussion during the council’s conservation meeting yesterday.

After chairing the meeting, he clarified that the project, located outside the World Heritage Site zone, is on a private land and is not protected by the heritage guidelines.

He added that the council did not have the power to stop the project but had, however, requested the developer to use hydraulic drills to bury their piles instead of using the conventional piling method.

Yusof also urged the developer to have a proper drainage system to avoid flash floods at the village located next to the project site.

Residents of the centuries-old village were concerned that the project would lead to structural damage of the nearby 187-year-old Sri Maha Mariamman Temple.

Village action committee chairman K. Nadarajan Raja handed a protest memorandum to Yusof yesterday.

The village is home to the last 20 Chitty families who are said to be descendants of the 16th-century Hindu traders who arrived here and later married local women.

The proposed project includes the construction of a 22-storey apartment and six-storey hotel on a 2.25ha plot next to the village.

On Oct 25, villagers suspended the temple trustees from acting on their behalf with regards to the issue and formed an action committee.

most likely no2, because i notice the ground also vibrate, but when GSC operated there, theres never been a vibrating seat. what i notice is that its not exactly a high quality type sound, they just slap in a lot of big speaker.all cinema in melaka has flaws, GSC DP sound system is too soft, MBO screen is too small, LFS is too loud.

it won't be a problem as some hall at GSC BTS are also not link to the ticket counter, its was a few floor downstairs. i really don't like the renovation taking place in MP, if you go to MP sisters; subang parade, that place is too white, the light is too bright, and the A/C is so low, that it isn't very comfortable being in it.
i rather choose loud but no quality sound than soft sound huge screen!
totally disappointed to GSC now! next week plan to go try ninja assasin at LFS:)

Swiftlet hotels get time to go

2009/09/25

By Jason Gerald John

MALACCA: Swiftlet breeders have until the end of the year to move their operations from the conservation zone in the centre of the city.

If the breeders in Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock, Jalan Tengkera, Jalan Hang Jebat, Jalan Kampung Hulu, Jalan Laksamana and Jalan Kee Ann do not move on time, they will receive summonses and compound fines of not less than RM250.

Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) president Yusof Jantan said there were 24 swiftlet breeders operating within the conservation area.

"We have issued them notice to vacate the buildings.

"In order to assist them, MBMB has identified buildings and sites in Ujong Pasir, in Melaka Tengah district, and in Merlimau, Jasin."

He said the notices were issued last month, giving the breeders ample time to move.

"We hope the relocation will go on smoothly and without any trouble."

Yusof said the decision was made to ban swiftlet breeding in the city centre because the "hotels" are in the conservation area that earned Malacca its status a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Periystiharan MPHTJ 1 Januari 2010
KEBANGKITAN SEMULA MELAKA BERSEJARAH

BANDARAYA MELAKA, 22 Nov - Melaka bakal mempunyai satu lagi Pihak Berkuasa Tempatan apabila Majlis Perbandaran Hang Tuah Jaya (MPHTJ) diisytiharkan pada I Januari tahun depan.

Turut hadir isteri Ketua Menteri, Datin Seri Asmah Abdul Rahman.

Turut hadir Pengerusi Veteran UMNO negeri, Datuk Noordin Yaani, Wakil Veteran UMNO Pusat, Datuk Ismail Yasin, Datuk Ramli Said, Exco Kerajaan Negeri, Datuk Latiff Tambi Chik, Datuk Ab Wahab Latip, Datuk Ab.Rahman Karim serta Jawatankuasa Veteran UMNO Negeri.

sorry, its at the end of next year

MALACCA: The historic city status as a Unesco World Heritage Site (WHS) has attracted a wide range of investors, including Lotus Corp Bhd that has invested RM3.5mil here to tap the lucrative service and tourism industry.

Chief executive officer Datuk R. Doraisingam Pillai said the company was playing its role to boost tourism here in line with the WHS status by providing better choices for avid locals and foreign moviegoers through its Lotus Five Star (LFS) cineplex.

“The opening of the cineplex here is also part of our company’s plan to expand our business as well as to provide patrons with the latest movies in the industry,” he told reporters after the opening of the RM3.5mil four-screen cineplex in Mahkota Parade yesterday.
Doraisingam (left) and LFS director Garuna Murthee at the launching of the LFS cineplex in Mahkota Parade.

The number of tourists to Malacca is expected to hit 7.4 million this year, generating some RM4bil in revenue.

Pelbagai Produk Baru Diperkenalkan
PELANCONGAN MELAKA CATAT REKOD LUAR BIASA

The preview of the property is on going and the sales launch is expected to take place middle of this month. I was told the sale will be carried out by way of balloting, a first in Melaka.

Shoplots (24x70) range from 680k to 1.2 mil. Street mall (34x100) ranges from a mil to close to 2 mil.

Isn't the street mall a new concept in Melaka? What do you know about the street mall? Who would be buying/investing in the street mall? What is the potential?

any idea what shop will replace the carrefour lot at lv 2 @ Dataran Pahlawan?
now i know that there's pasar malam like style selling clothes.
i also heard GSC having their phase 2..is it true? if it is true then it means additional halls? i know they r planning to install 3D in GSC DP. Will that be phase 2?

And there will be another project between newton food court and mahkota parade....2 row of shoplot and a 6storey hotel.

its not really new concept. remember there's one project near Portuguese Settlement name Heritage something... Thats a street mall concept which fails...or i should say abandoned. KL got a few street mall...but not all r doing well. For example, NiuZeXui @ Ara Damansara. the Curve one was quite successful.

too bad la...the location is TOO near to the heritage site. i also hope for a high rise...then it will look nice with holiday inn, mahkota hotel n hatten square.
besides, MP should have expand their mall instead of improving the parking area.....their management actually ok one...as in look at subang parade. They manage to have some branded tenant to open inside.
Dont compare with AEON coz AEON's concept more or less the same with other AEON in other countries like their origin country, Japan.

It will take at least another decade before IKEA wants or plans to open in Melaka. Mainly because of the purchasing power is not as strong as JB, Penang and other major cities.

Land for redevelopment
Story and photo by CHEN PELF YEEN

MALACCA: The state will fork out RM1.45mil in compensation to 42 property owners and tenants in Kampung Bunga Raya Pantai following the acquisition of an area next to Malacca River for redevelopment.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the residents and two temples in the area had agreed to move out of the 1.8ha plot acquired from Shaw Brothers recently.

http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/12/4/southneast/se_p6Demolish.jpg
Demolition work in progress at Kampung Bunga Raya Pantai in Malacca recently. The residents have been given until April next year to move out of the area.

Besides compensating the owners, the state will provide gratuitous payments of RM2,000 each to tenants occupying semi-wooden dwellings, he said when met at the village here on Tuesday.

To assist the affected families, the state would help source homes for them to rent temporarily, he added.

“We are willing to build low-cost flats for them but they have to wait for a year or more for it to be completed.

“In the meantime, the state will help them look for houses to rent if they want,” he said.

Work to demolish several vacant houses would start immediately while the residents were given until April 1 next year to move out, he said.

Mohd Ali and Malacca MCA deputy chairman Datuk Gan Tian Loo met more than 50 residents over plans to redevelop the area.

The redevelopment would include the construction of a hotel, commercial lots and an aquarium to complement efforts to beautify Malacca River.

Mohd Ali said RM96,000 was paid to the 19th-century Hai Long Gong Temple which had agreed to relocate to a nearby vacant plot while Tian Boon Tong Temple was compensated with RM28,000.

Meanwhile, resident Tang Siew Hoog, 35, said he was happy with the outcome of negotiations with state officials.

Besides being paid reasonable compensation, the residents could spend Chinese New Year in the village before vacating, he said.

we had the biggest jusco store, not the biggest AEON mall, our AEON is 2/3 the size of bkt tinggi or twice the size of AEON seremban..will likely be the 2nd or 3rd biggest AEON mall in SEA,as i do not know the exact size of seberang prai city(currently no2)

of course, someone can called IJM to tell them to extend the mall all the way to the river edge, with The Curve style outdoor F&B area,..then we can be the largest JUsco and AEon in one go..

i don't mind the expensive selling glorify court mammoth that is harvey norman not being here,
but i don't know why wendy, crispy cream,j-co,haggen dass, NZ natural,or manhattan fish market,

Ya lor, apa la...to me Malacca shud be more advance than Seremban. Have been staying in Seremban for 6 months and I believe Malacca shud be a better place to invest. Dont know why they dont want to open shop in Malacca. The worst thing is one of the shops that you mentioned, the owner actually has a close tie to Malacca but still they dont want to open it in Malacca. Booo.....thumbs down to them for looking down on Malacca

ye lor, seremban got ichiban sushi&domino somemore...
but as our mall is develop by IJM,like AEON seremban, so the design, even the color sheme is soo similar, when the shoplot is complete it will even be more similar to seremban 2... too bad WCT is just the contractor for our mall,if they are the developer,we may have something as cool as bkt tinggi..

with our 1.35Msq of GFA,we shoud be ranked no3.but as AEON already double it screen here from the original 5,let just hope it enough to beat AEON Pedra.

i have to agree with that. manhattan is definitely better than Simply Fish in Melaka in terms of pricing. But they are not opening also....sad to say that.
i think J-CO is coming....somewhere in the news...they plan to open in Melaka. Domino's pizza not even in Melaka....although they took over half of Shakey's restaurant.

In some way....i think Jusco Seremban 2 ceiling is abit higher than AEON Melaka.

Melaka in terms of population lose to Sban but then in terms of tourist arrival Melaka is way better.
This mall indeed was 5 storey but then they cut off to 3....due to financial crisis....but the mall can support 5 storey...even if it is 5 storey....it would be 2 storey of carpark and 3 storey of mall. So it doesnt really affect the mall area.

Most of the shops will open on 17/12/09 while some in January 2010. As for cinema...i think it will be beyond Jan 2010.
I still hope for more new tenants especially food n beverage....like Kim Gary, Manhattan Fish Market, Tony Roma, TGI Fridays, Italiannies....etc etc.

lol...u count?? i didnt count. Ya...there's empty shoplots haven taken i guess.
Like more than 10 shops....It will be around 200+ shops in AEON Bandaraya Melaka.

i was surprised that McD didnt enter.....Guardian didnt cause Caring already there and also Watsons. Esprit n MNG thinks that location not so good....as in not in the city centre...like MP n DP.
Even Nike wasnt in the list....but Adidas has.

^^ i suspect McD is eying the vacant land near AEON or some of AEON parking space to build a stand alone,24-7, drive through restaurant, as here in melaka, stand alone MCD like in Melakamall and DP are more pack than the one inside a mall like in MP n JJ...

200++ shop???? i also counted the number of store in bkt tinggi at wikipedia only 180...

i think the largest still belongs to bukit tinggi:lol:

nolah, the original rendering show that all the cinema hall located on 1 floor, now if you see at the end of AEON near the river theres a section where the mall become 1 story taller than the rest, so maybe 2 story cinema like that in DP..

Sentral: Hard Rock Cafe di Melaka 2010
Oleh Nasir Abd Wahab
anasir@bharian.com.my

Melaka: Hotel Satu Dunia dijangka siap April

yeah, i see it & arrive at the same conclusion too..

disapointing? for me not really, bcoz its not an ordinary mall, its may be bazzar type(probably to look like an arabian souq). but all the lot will be run by the developer and not rented out to a 3rd party..so I imagin it like a souq looking departmental store??

disapointment???? that should be reserve at what thing tan sri vincent tan will built!!!!!,

- Utusan

^^ at McD taman buaya, theres a new 4lane road right, get into it then at the 1st junction on your right, turn right, the park is just at the junction there..if you proceed with the road it will then go too kampung buku as well as PLKN camp...

and there are extending the 4lane road to MITC at the current tmn tasik utama junction.

really sad that they are raping the onces beautiful hutan rekreasi..it so ungly and to small now.....better just take away the hutan simpan status, sell the balak and build a good themepark!!! like 6mountain ke, futurescope ke or at least warnerbros movieworld...

i dont like theme park in melaka town... malulah people always said i live in a circus town..

a rebranding, seperating the town for it old world charm surrounded by modern amenities, and great beach fronting (as they will make an artificial beach in klebang) city, mcm goldcoast, penang, miami, hawaii, tel aviv or rio de jenero is good to atrract beachloving, cityloving, shooping loving crowd..turn pulau melaka and banda hilir with singapore marina bay,or nusajaya putri hobour concept..

and hang tuah jaya as the themepark heaven..hang tuah jaya is already the size of walt disney world what, MITC already got planetarium..put some more building an walla EPCOT is born....mini malaysia, mini asia, there extended to included other country, walla walt disney's world pavilion lookalike is born... water themepark, already got2,3 more coming soon... sri negeri, renovated to look like a castle..walla got magic kingdom, that zoo,put some more aminities, animal kingdom is born.... find some studio inspired themepark operator, then you got disney holywood studio..put more sporting facilities at jebat stadium then disney world of sport is born, sell melaka mall to khazanah then told theme to build kidzania there,, and plus 4 golf course..GOt airport..AERorel sommore, that feng shui resort, and build more theme resort there..relocate the cheng ho themepark there, the sultan mashur ship there, ohh the lake there should be renovated like lake buno vista.ask i bhd to buid i-city melaka,..yes we may not have the fame universal studio, but universal citywalk lokalike is really cool.

and ask sime darby and IOI (as they own land there) to build the homes there to look like celebration town..

yes,it is a rip off, will it work, highly likely(its a proven model).. who cares, they have a stingking, busuk, pest animal,a mouse as a moscot, we put a bijak pandai si kancil as our mascot

Aeon Seremban also got Guess but Melaka don't have. We hope at least Manhattan Fish Market & Kim Gary will come to Aeon Melaka.

i don't know, the design of building near MITC could be alot nicer if they spend a little extra money to make it look good..afterall almost all are gov building, in putrajaya all gov building can be classified as gred A.(well untill the gov servent move in n decorated it to look just like the gred C building they just left)..so better build gred C here.

but maybe they will end up with no tenant if it were too beautiful coz rent too expensive,it good for those ICT company who concern about bottom line, cannot compete with cyberjayalah, it has the fed backing, you just end up a losser if you go head on with cyberjaya
but it a good started, you cannot just build fake artificial like dubai as it will not be sustainable in a long time...i hate the building but at least it more functional than forms, we are really miskin,so no need to fancy design that waste tax-payers money.

mlk was onces rated the same with ipoh n kuantan,we have propel forward to be in the big league of kuching n kk, just a few more step we can be on par with jb n penang.untill then, when the social n economic of malaccan improve we can get a better looking building, untill then, enjoy the tacky loooking building, it much better than other state whose get no tacky building at all.

MITC is one ungly duclikng, but it have convocation space half the size of PWTC. bettr than the nicely design Persada johor,PICC,BCCK,SACC which look nice but small..MITC can accomodate 700++ booth, rather than less than 200 that others offer...

Four Points by Sheraton to expand to Melaka

KUCHING: Four Points by Sheraton will be expanding to Melaka.
http://www.theborneopost.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/0000506416.jpgFOR THE ALBUM: Ting (centre) receiving a memento from Yusof while Latiff looks on.
Four Points by Sheraton advisor Tan Sri Ting Pek Khiing said yesterday he intended to bring Four Points to Melaka after receiving good response from Menteri Besar of Melaka Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam recently.
“The Melaka Menteri Besar is very interested in the hotel’s design and concept. We will bring Four Points to Melaka soon,” said Ting during a dinner reception with 74 delegates from Melaka Saturday.
The delegates consist of members of the Melaka Historical City Council (MBMB) came for a three-day visit to Kuching since last Thursday to see and share experiences with MBKS and DBKU.
The delegates were led by MBMB Mayor Datuk Yusof Jantan.
Ting said Four Points by Sheraton Kuching is the first of its kind in South East Asia.
“Although there are other Four Points around the world like in China, Four Points Kuching is unique on its own.
“The design and concept is the first in this region and is the biggest Four Points hotel in the world,” he said.
Apart from being affordable, Ting said having Four Points in Melaka would also help boost the state’s tourism industry.
The purpose of the visit was to share the experience between MBKS-DBKU and MBMB as well as to strengthen ties between the city council of both states.
MBKS Mayor James Chan, DBKU director Onn Abdullah, State Police Commissioner Datuk Mohmad Salleh and Melaka Local Government and Environment Committee chairman Datuk Latiff Tamby Chik was among those present.

Dubai Firm Shows Interest To Invest US$500 Mln In Melaka

MELAKA, Dec 21 (Bernama) -- A company from Dubai, Golden Crescent Group, has expressed interest to invest US$500 million (about RM1.720 billion) in Melaka, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said on Monday.

"They showed interest to invest in the state after seeing the development in Melaka," he told reporters after opening the 34th general representative meeting of 4B Youth Movement in Ayer Keroh.

He said Golden Crescent was interested to invest in fields like hotel, manufacturing, recycling and building a specialist hospital.

Representatives from the company -- Dr Abdelrahman Mustafa Abdullah Al Jarrar, Mahomed Akbar Khan dan Dr Khalil A.H. Al Khalil -- met Ali earlier on Monday.

During the meeting, Ali said, he had also suggested the company to invest in animation film in the state. A memorandum of understanding would soon by signed between Chief Minister Incorporated and the company, he added.

He said that among other factors that drew the interest of foreign investors to Melaka were the existence of various infrastructures, abundant skilled workforce, political stability and peace.

"They have visited tourist spots, industrial areas, factories producing high-tech products, higher learning institutions, ICT facilities, the Melaka Institute of Biotechnology and many other places. That's why they are interested to invest here," Ali said.

He said Melaka's foreign investment target for next year was RM3 billion while this year's achievement would be known by the end of December.

"Melaka has received a lot of investment in the tourism industry so I think the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority can also consider this as foreign direct investment besides the manufacturing sector," he said.

Tarikan baru Taman Patriotika

Oleh NAS NORZIELA NASBAH
utusanmelaka@utusan.com.my

PENGUNJUNG kini boleh menyaksikan 13 replika bangunan bersejarah dan utama di negara ini seperti bangunan A'Famosa, Stadhuys, Jambatan Pulau Pinang, Tugu Negara, Menara Berkembar Petronas dan Litar F1 Sepang di Taman Buaya dan Rekreasi Melaka, Ayer Keroh.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

MELAKA 21 Dis.

Menurut Pengurus Projek Pembangunan TBRM, Ahmad Tarmizi Md.

Mydin to open 4th outlet in Malacca
Published: 2009/12/31

DUE to encouraging response from the public, Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd will build a RM67 million wholesale hypermarket next March in Bandar Jasin Bistari, its fourth outlet in Malacca.

Its managing director Datuk Ameer Ali Mydin said land acquisition for the six-hectare factory site will cost RM7 million and construction another RM60 million.

He said the continued confidence in the people's purchasing power prompted Mydin Mohamed Holdings to invest in another hypermarket in the state.

"The state government is offering various incentives to woo investors to turn Malacca into a shoppers' paradise for tourists," he said, adding that construction of the factory will begin in March 2010.

"The hypermarket will be ready for commercial operations in May 2011 and provide business opportunities for local retailers," he told reporters in Malacca yesterday after a signing ceremony for the purchase of the factory land from the Melaka Customary Lands Development Corporation (Pertam).

Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam witnessed the signing of the agreement between Ameer, who signed on behalf of his company, while Pertam was represented by its deputy chairman Datuk As'ari Ibrahim.

Ameer said Mydin's biggest hypermarket is operating at the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) and generated a monthly turnover of RM18 million while another two outlets operated at Melaka Sentral. - Bernama

Malacca thrives on tourism and set for developed status
By SIMON KHOO, MARTIN CARVALHO and DESIREE

2009 brought progress and good news, especially for Pahang, which saw one of her sons become the country’s chief. But the year was not without its share of trouble and scandals. Here’s a brief recap, along with a little glimpse of what’s to come and the people’s hopes in 2010.

MALACCA: Despite worries over the global economic downturn, the historical state of Malacca managed to weather the storm and emerged somewhat unscathed.

There were concerns among many based on projections compounded by several manufacturing plants laying off some 2,000 workers. Of particular concern was the downturn’s impact on the state’s long-term goal of achieving developed-state status by 2010.

http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/12/31/southneast/se_04straits.jpg
Historic place: Chinese President Hu Jintao and his wife Madame Liu Yong Qing took the opportunity to take photographs of the Straits of Malacca during their visit to the historic city.

However, the concerns eased when statistics revealed that the state’s economy, particularly the tourism and service industries, was healthy.

The state’s goal of attracting 7.4 million tourists by the year’s end is within reach.

A good indicator is the once-controversial Taming Sari revolving tower in the heart of the city. It received its one-millionth customer on Dec 28, four months ahead of target.

As of November, sales taxes stood at RM253mil with the tourism and service sectors contributing RM6.5bil or 69.7% to the state’s gross domestic product (GDP).

Matching this is rapid infrastructure development with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak scheduled to launch the newly-extended RM190mil Melaka International Airport on Jan 15.

http://thestar.com.my/archives/2009/12/31/southneast/se_04aerorail.jpg
Futuristic: An artist’s rendition of the proposed Aerorail system.

With the historical city inscribed as a Unesco World Heritage Site, the airport is poised to help the state achieve its target of eight million tourist arrivals in 2010, adding more tourist dollars for the local economy.

Also set to materialise in 2010 is the state’s ambitious Aerorail Transit System, a RM1.8bil private venture, and the RM43.8bil Malacca-Sumatra bridge across the Straits of Malacca.

Although the two projects have their detractors, the state is optimistic that work will begin some time in the middle of next year and lead to long-term economic benefits upon completion.

On the downside, both locals and tourists are expected to face greater traffic congestion in the heart of the city.

Most locals have come to accept that the city belongs to tourists during weekends with traffic congestion in the popular tourist belt a common occurrence during festive and school-holiday seasons.

This brings to the forefront the pressing need for the state and federal authorities to take adequate steps to alleviate the increasing traffic woes.

Attempts were made earlier in the year to change the one-way traffic flow on several major roads in the city, in particular at the Melaka Raya commercial and entertainment hub.

However, this led to more grouses than benefits after a three-month trial, causing authorities to revert to the original flow much to the relief of local motorists.

The people’s wish for the New Year is to see the historical city rid of the many worn-out and rickety public buses.

The sight of these vehicles belching out black plumes of smoke as they make their way through the narrow streets will not augur well for Malacca’s image when hosting the XIII Sukma Games in June and the impending declaration of developed-state status on Oct 20, 2010.

how fast will it take to travel from air keroh zoo to the city center using the aerorail ? 20kmh?hahaha..

its about the same speed n pricing as KL monorail.

i don't really like the monorel n aerorel here, its too american in design,
there steel is cheap, they should look at PTT, rather than just a cut n paste process, they actually develop the 1st concreat superstructure.. turning the construction cost down...

melaka should consider normal concreat track rather than expensive steel structure

anyway happy new year to all malacan!!!!

TM rolls out 1Gbps broadband in Melaka

MELAKA, Dec 23 — Broadband Internet service in Melaka is now at one gigabit per second (1Gbps) following the launch of Melaka Metro Ethernet (Melaka Metro-E) today.

Telekom Malaysia chief executive, Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said that for a start, the Melaka Metro-E network has been fixed in 27 buildings occupied by the state government departments and agencies at a cost of RM5 million.

The new network will enable TM to upgrade and offer the latest voice, Internet and data services such as its Internet Protocal-based virtual network portal and its TM Direct services, he told reporters after the launch of Melaka Metro-E, here, today.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam launched the service.

Among the 27 buildings to enjoy the network facility will be the Seri Negeri, Wisma Seri Negeri, Melaka International Trade Centre, Melaka Media House, the K-Ekonomi Inkubator building and Yayasan Melaka.

Zamzamzairani said through the upgrading of the network capacity, the government departments and agencies of Melaka will be able to communicate better and more effectively.

The technology also offers a higher level of data protection, cost effective maintenance rate and advanced broadband technology without barriers.

The network service offered to the state government is based on the industry standard Carrier Class Ethernet which can be expanded to other locations.

Zamzamzairani said TM was also working with Melaka ICT Holdings (MICTH) to develop wireless broadband for the entire state through the concept of hotzones and hotspots.

He said the domestic broadband penetration rate in Melaka was now at 29 per cent and that TM was looking into increasing the rate with the help of the state government.

Mohd Ali said the launching of Melaka Metro-E will not only raise the capacity of services from the government departments and agencies but also attract more investors to the state.

He also called on TM and MICTH to organise more seminars to create awareness and encourage the use broadband services among the people. — Bernama

The municipality of 14,293 hectares is carved out of 24 percent of the Alor Gajah district, 36 percent of the Jasin district and 40 percent of the Melaka Tengah district, and comprises 147,209 residents.

Occupying a central position in the state, Hang Tuah Jaya has areas for agriculture (53.8 percent of the total acreage), housing (23.2 percent), commerce (2.2 percent), industries (3.7 percent), recreation and resorts (6.5 percent), educational institutions (6.5 percent) and other amenities.

"As a smart city, Hang Tuah Jaya will make available a safe and conducive environment for work," Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam told reporters after the event at the Malacca International Trade Centre (MITC) in Ayer Keroh here.

He said the state government had drawn up six strategies for the sustainable development of Hang Tuah Jaya.

They were setting up of a smart administrative centre; economic development and attraction of investors; moulding Hang Tuah Jaya's image and identity; enhancing the standard and quality of life; providing recreational spots and tourist attractions and consolidating the administrative development of Hang Tuah Jaya, he added.

"We hope Hang Tuah Jaya will continue to develop as an ultra modern administrative centre to serve as a model for other cities in Malaysia and the world in terms of sophistication by way of development and management style," he said. - Bernama

what to do.. economic crisis lol

they had reduce the height, cancel the 5th floor parking, reduce the store size..

but agreed that, from the outside it look longer than bukit tinggi, with 3.5 floor, of mall

From the outside, seems like it is bigger than Aeon Bkt Tinggi. There are over 300 retails shops available at Aeon Bandaraya Melaka, now nearly 200 shops have been taken up. Btw, Aeon Bkt Tinggi ground floor ceiling is high and some of those shops like Guess, MNG, Esprit, G2000 are huge.

ya...i do agree. from the outside...it does looks bigger....coz maybe it looks LONG....
AEON bukit tinggi is alot better in terms of tenant mix. More branded shops.
Even the ceiling is way higher than AEON melaka. been there a few times.
plus....AEON bukit tinggi have underground parking...and rooftop parking. 5 floors.....3 floors shopping and 2 carpark floors.

The shopping mall was built with the costs of about RM288 million by WCT Berhad and it has a gross built-up floor area of approximately 1,358,000 square feet (126,200 m2). Contrary to some speculations, AEON Bandaraya Melaka is not the largest ÆON shopping centre in Malaysia. The largest ÆON shopping centre in the country is the AEON Bukit Tinggi Shopping Centre in Klang, Selangor which was built with the costs of about RM350 million with a gross built-up floor area of approximately 2,100,000 square feet (195,000 m2).

2,100,00sq ft of build up area included the parking lot, and bkt tinggi had lots of its, 2 floor upstairs n basement + 3 floor of mall.. don't know if gross build up area included the outside parking lot too...

melaka got only 1 floor of above parking and no basement..

so in term of net leasible area it should be quiet close right?

i mean 2,100,000 / 2 (3 floor of mall n 3 floor of car park) = shopping area of around 1,050,000sq ft for bkt tinggi

melaka one should be 1,358,000/4 story mall * 3 story of shopping area = 1,018,500sq ft of gross shopping area (not included the extended cinema)

so in term of look, ambiences and quality of the stores bkt tinggi is better.

melaka got more store, biggest jusco store..

the 1358000 is the total area b4 they reduce to 4 storys shopping center...:) so do the math:lol:
and i think u should add the basement ground of bukit tinggi to the calculation...
2100/7*3=900( basement, 3storey mall, 3 story carpark)
1358/6*3=679( they had reduced 2 story carpark coz i saw a pic that there has reservation for 4 n 5th floor at the lift )
and even though they will add in the 2 story carpark in the future, the build up area is still remain smaller than bukit tinggi..
correct me if i were wrong :)

and i still believe the stores at bukit tinggit are larger and taller but the amount of shops is less than aeon melaka:)

so bkt tinggi is way way bigger and handsome but the mall portion is about the same..right?

for me, oklah.. bkt tinggi is build at a time of great economic time, in a bigger town that underserved by malls, with huge young profesional as well as general population.

melaka had too much mall, too much penniless student and kedekut old people...

Malacca govt eyeing Ferris wheel if it is for the taking
By MARTIN CARVALHO

MALACCA: The Eye on Malaysia, the country’s largest Ferris wheel, will cease operations indefinitely pending the outcome of a legal suit brought against its operators by a foreign company.

The 60m-high Ferris wheel was closed at about 9.30am yesterday when lawyers and receivers of Fitraco NV arrived to enforce a Nov 26 injunction granted by the High Court against the operators - MST Ad Suria Sdn Bhd and Eye On Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EOM).

http://thestar.com.my/archives/2010/1/8/nation/n_03wheel.jpg
End of its run: Lawyers for Fitraco Cheah Soo Chuan (second from right), Leonard Yeoh (right) and receiver’s representative Arul Gunendran (foreground) taking custody of the Ferris wheel yesterday

A bus loaded with tourists and several other visitors were caught by surprise when they were informed by security guards that the Ferris wheel was closed. It is learnt that several hundred tourists who had made prior bookings would also be affected by the closure.

Fitraco, a leisure equipment leasing company based in Belgium, initiated legal proceedings against MST Ad Suria on Sept 15, last year to take over the Ferris wheel after it failed to repay the loan, said to be in the tune of RM17mil in mid-May 2009.

MST Ad Suria, through EOM, had entered into a joint-venture project with the Malacca state government’s subsidiary Kumpulan Melaka Bhd (KMB) for the Ferris wheel to be placed at a theme park to be developed on a 1.6ha site in Kota Laksamana two years ago.

A court injunction was given to Fitraco to enter the site and gain custody of the Ferris wheel.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the state was not the sole operator of the Ferris wheel but was only involved in a joint-venture to develop a theme park.

“The state is not involved in the legal tussle as it is MST Ad Suria that failed to secure a bank loan to repay Fitraco.

“We hope the matter can be resolved as soon as possible as the closure would mean a loss in the number of tourists to the state,” he said after launching the Melaka Integrated Surveillance System here yesterday.

He added that the state would be willing to bid for the Ferris wheel if the Belgian company auctioned it.

He urged EOM to make the necessary arrangements for their affected workers and alternative plans for the cancelled bookings.

It is learnt that the Ferris wheel has chalked up ticket sales of some RM5mil since it was launched here in October 2008.

Some RM30mil was said to have been spent to bring the giant Ferris wheel to Malaysia where it was first sited at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

It was subequently relocated to Malacca.

Finally, Malaccans can enjoy the view of the sunset at Straits of Malacca. With the new coastal road opened to the public near the "Eye of Malaysia", you can enjoy the sea breeze in the evenings.

During one of my visits there, we can see anglers fishing. Eventhough, we can now see the sunsets, the walking path is too narrow. Also, it is only paved with tarmac and it is uneven. Only one person can walk at any one time.

The path is also just besides a drain to the sea. The height of the drain is quite high. Some trees are being planted along the 2 km coastal road. If some concrete chairs can be placed along the road, it will be good.:):):)

The monorail is being constructed along Melaka River. Once the track is ready, the train will be tested on the track.

The track links Taman Rempah to the Majestic Hotel station. Once it is opened, visitors can either take the monorail or walk along the Melaka River.

The monorail should have 3 stations and extend to at least 1.2km for appropriate ride. 2 stations with only 600m built for what ? Maybe the monorail speed is damn slow, 600m track build for decoration only. As usual, we can't expect much from m'sia.

With the overdevelopment of the Banda Hilir area, finally some developments are being channelled up the Melaka River to the Melaka New Chinatown area especially at the former Melaka Central Market at Jalan Kee Ann/Pasar Baru.

A signboard indicating the development of 10 new 2 storeys and 3 storeys shop houses are to be built at the junction Jalan Munshi Abdullah/Jalan Pasar Baru.

http://www.tourism-melaka.com/shophouse(2009).jpg

2 storey shop houses are priced at RM 800,000.00 while the 3 storey shophouses are at RM 1,000,000.00. All have been sold except one 3 storey shop house facing Jalan Munshi Abdullah.

If all the shophouses are sold, the total investment value is about RM 8,000,000.00. The area have not been developed for the past 20 years and new development in the area augurs well for the area.

Recently, the Musical Water Fountain was built and opened to the public. Also, the former Plaza Inn is being refurbished and shall be opening soon in February 2010.

The area opposite the fountain has also be re-developed by Taa Ann. A metal structure is being constructed before the store selling pots and pans will shift into this new premises.

News received is that the former Central Market area will be developed by a Kuala Lumpur investor. A high rise hotel, car park and shopping mall are to be built on the freehold land.

Moreover, the old Hang Tuah bridge is being torn down and re-built into a span bridge. A new budget hotel has been opened along Jalan Munshi Abdullah opposite the AIA Building recently. It is a matter of time that some vacant lands along Jalan Kee Ann (such as the former car park of Regal Hotel) and along Jalan Bunga Raya (besides Mimosa Hotel) will be acquired and developed. Even, the shop house (former North Pole) which was burnt down in 2001, is be re-developed after being left vacant for some years. Another 3 shop houses opposite Aldy Chinatown Hotel are for sales.

Biotech park for Malacca
By MARTIN CARVALHO

MALACCA: The state subsidiary, Melaka Biotech Holdings Sdn Bhd, will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with India’s Vivo Biotech Limited for the development of a RM500mil biotech park in Bukit Rambai.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the MoU would be concluded between the two companies in New Delhi during the Prime Minister’s official visit to India on Jan 20.

The agreement would see the company establishing operations on 2ha in Bukit Rambai, he told reporters here on Wednesday.

Besides developing drugs to treat cancer and diabetes, he said the company would be involved in research to produce vaccines for tropical diseases.

He said the state was also in talks with India’s Reliance Group to expand its operations in Malacca.

The group, via its company Recron Sdn Bhd, employed some 2,000 workers at its textile operations in Tanjung Kling, he added.

On another matter, Mohd Ali said the Malacca government had offered 87ha in Semujuk, Jasin, to Selangor Poverty Eradication Foundation (YBK) to develop a Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campus.

He said the site was offered as an alternative location for the proposed campus initially planned for Serendah in Rawang, Selangor.

“If they agree, they will be able to start work later this year,” he added.

In 1995, the Selangor government presented 197ha in Serendah to YBK, a non-governmental organisation set up 20 years ago to help alleviate poverty in the state.

YBK subsidiary Permodalan YBK Sdn Bhd was set to begin work on campus recently but hit a snag when the Selangor government imposed a condition that Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim should be appointed as its chairman.

AEON witnesses stronger growth

January 15, 2010, Friday

KUCHING: AEON Co (M) Bhd (AEON) a leading local retailer is expected to deliver better results in the fourth quarter of the previous financial year given the firmer consumer spending and seasonally strong quarter.OSK Research Sdn Bhd (OSK Research) in its research report yesterday noted that AEON was resilient during the economic crisis, chalking up revenue of 9.8 per cent and net profit of 2.7 per cent in the first nine months of the previous financial year.

It believed that AEON was on track to meet the earnings forecast of RM128.1 million for the previous financial year.
OSK Research said that the opening of the largest AEON Jusco Outlet in Malacca which was scheduled to open on 14 December last year, was postponed following a gas explosion. Though it was then to be opened on 21 December, this was later pushed closer to the Chinese New Year.
As a result of authority approval issues the opening of its Bandar Sri Permaisuri mall has also been delayed. The research house speculated that the opening of Bandar Sri Permaisuri will be in 2011.
The research firm believed that though the slow down in growth will be inevitable following a few new outlet openings, the next two years’ revenue growth would be generated by the young outlets which will have matured by then.
Meanwhile, AEON was finalising talks with See Hoy Chan Sdn Bhd (SHC) on a leasing agreement. OSK Research confirmed that AEON will still be the mall’s anchor tenant, likely to manage part of the tenant area of One U’s phase 1.
The report further added that AEON’s move to Vietnam was progressing well with the group expected to officially enter the Vietnam market by 2012.
Based on this, OSK trimmed down its financial forecasts for 2011/2012 by 2.8 per cent to 3.2 per cent and pegged a higher target price of RM5.15 for the company’s shares.

Thanks for the info. Any idea which flight destinations are officially confirmed?

nope. no idea bout it. Our present DPM used the airport before. He came Melaka via LTBB for a visit i think. So i think PM will come Melaka using the airport n officiating it.

Eh, they started construction on the monorail already? I was in Malacca in October last year but couldn't find the site... And where is the first station located, just to ask?

Also, if Hard Rock Cafe opens its doors, Malacca will be a more happening place... Just look at what Hard Rock did to Ferringhi Beach, when the Hotel opened? Darn happening now! :D

They have started the construction. Near Majestic Hotel and Putra Hospital.

As for Hard Rock Cafe....there are plans that they will open near the Melaka river mouth under Casa De Rio boutique hotel.

Apart from speculations, I guess we still have no official confirmation of where & when AirAsia or Firefly will be flying to from Melaka. Looks like this expansion is a "white elephant:ohno: Nolah it will come in handy for najibs private jet to landlah(A318)

^^ UMNO man that i know said firefly wanna the state gov to give them money to fly from melaka to anywhere.. all other states sudah bayar, even nizr (when he was MB) pon bayar... but melaka gov refuse to bayar, they say unlike other, we think theres actually a demand for such services so no subsidies is needed...... that why firefly play hardball and leave, even if the route is feasible but Malaysian businessmen still like to come and ask gov for money..that why firefly had fly fly away from the Sg-melaka route.

for AK, i think they and the state wanna the airport on their own and kick out MAHB..it a good place with the cheap design mean cheap to run,and with no taxes for indonesian bound flight....

now transport ministery said, MAHB will run it, but they will give discount a.k.a subsidies to airlines operated there..and theres a problem as MIA got no refueling facilities.as this irport is 60km from KLIA i think MAHB will done a shitty job running it..

too much politic lah for such tiny airport

Malacca Club Town House will be re-located at the new building being built at the junction into Pulau Melaka. Malacca Club will occupy one whole floor while Tai Thong Restaurant will also be located here.

When completed, Malacca Club logo can be prominently seen along the main road. Members can also patronise the club and Tai Thong restaurant.:banana::banana:
