TM launches Malacca broadband project
By STEVEN DANIEL

MALACCA: Telekom Malaysia Berhad ™ launched its first state-led broadband infrastructure initiative in Malacca following the state government’s aim to achieve broadband port availability of 75% of its households by the end of the year.

The project dubbed the “Melaka Broadband Project” is the second joint initiative in the country between a state government and an Internet service provider (ISP).
TM Malaysia Business chief executive officer Datuk Zamzamzairani Mohd Isa said the sharing of the RM31.5mil infrastructure costs with the Malacca state government would allow them to provide an additional 25,000 broadband ports and reduce the subscription rates.

In the news: TM Content and Digital Home assistant manager Zaiton Ayub reading the headlines at The Star Online as Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam (left) and Zamzamzairani (right) look on.
He added that the additional ports would be installed in two phases and be completed by the year end.

“This will help encourage the people here to sign up for broadband, while enjoying the benefits of a faster Internet connection,” he said before the launching at Dataran Pahlawan Megamall recently.

He said this initiative falls in line with the government’s target of achieving a 75% household broadband penetration rate nationwide by 2011.

Zamzamzairani said the reason TM had chosen Malacca as the first state to develop this concept was because they already had everything in place.

“We chose Malacca because in terms of infrastructure, they are well ahead compared to the other states and we had agreed to develop this project on Aug 15 last year,” he said.

hei,did you guys had sign up for this,88 for 4mbps connection, +10 you get free landline call nationwide and no 25ringgit sewa..

more shoplots will be there but they are of different concept and build-up. right next to the river an area of about 3 acres are reserved for hotel. there are few proposals for the hotel project which are being evaluated.

I like JJ Ayer Keroh a lot, especially the sunshaded carpark, many times better than that of AEON Bandaraya Melaka. And when is its cinema going open?

TESCO Peringgit is in terrible shape, many franchise restaurants are closed down, replaced by unknown restaurants, and the building needs a lot of maintenance to be done. :ohno:

Next on its plate and currently in its planning stage is a high-end condominium, just 2km from Hatten Square.

The Dataran Pahlawan project was undertaken with a locally-incorporated company, Lianbang Ventures Sdn Bhd. I read from a source stated that a 40 storey hotel wil be built at the old federal cinema. Cant confirm whether this source is reliable.

Other planned and unconfirmed high rise development are:

1) Hotel tower at Pulau Melaka
2) Condotel at Melaka Raya by Yayasan DMDI (planning stage)
3) Condominium by hatten group at melaka raya
4) Hotel seri malaysia at klebang (not sure how tall the hotel wil be)
5) Condotel at Peringgit by Unit Perancang Ekonomi Negeri Melaka (planning stage)

here is what the skyline of inner melaka city will look like, if the 40-storey hotel project is realised, together with UDA mall and jaya99 and hatten square, and the construction of the lagenda shops in front of AEON. Melaka is really booming , this is only inner melaka, what about melaka coast (melaka raya up to klebang) upcoming projects?

in my opinion, the jalan kilang area and across the river will become area with high concentration of skyscrapers in the near future, and this will change Melaka skyline forever. Imagine u take a stroll along Melaka river at Kampung Morten with skyscrapers around u, against the foreground of the idyllic kamping, that will be so awesome.

Jaya 99 comprises a 7-stories podium and two (2) blocks of 9-stories and 10-stories office towers providing a total leas-able area of approximately 200,000sq.ft. Jaya99 assists the office users to optimize their space usage by providing separate function/conference area. Besides, the Food & Beverage outlets and retail designated shops also provide a more complete and convenient office usage.

Jaya99 fronts Jalan Tun Sri Lanang which is one of the main trunk roads leading to city centre. Melaka River is located at the rear side of the development. As this land is located within the city centre district, therefore, it provides easy accessibility to existing amenities such as hotels, banks, medical centers, government offices & etc.

Retails and Showrooms:

Ground Floor:
- Showroom / Food & Beverage / Retail with approximately 14,000ft2 floor area

Mezzanine Floor:
- Food & beverages with approximately 12,000ft2

Sixth Floor:

Office Tower:

7th – 15th Floors:
- Tower A (9 Floors) with approximately 8,500ft2/floor

7th – 16th Floors:
- Tower B (10 Floors) with approximately 9,400ft2/floor

On its film exhibition and distribution division, PPB senior manager (corporate affairs) Koh Mei Lee said the group has allocated a capex of RM60 million for the opening of five new Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC), of which four were scheduled to debut next year and the fifth in 2012.

The new cinemas would be in Melaka, Setia Alam, Kelana Jaya, Mentakab and Nu Sentral in Kuala Lumpur.

“Currently, we have 23 locations with 183 screens and the new opening would increase locations to 28 with an addition of 45 screens,” Koh said, noting that GSC enjoyed about 40-42% market share in terms of box office collection.

She also said revenue from the division increased in the first half of 2010 due to the opening of three new cinemas, namely GSC Suria Sabah, GSC Tropicana and GSC East Coast Mall as well as additional screens at GSC IOI.

Perfect Eagle’s biggest piece of land by far is in Jasin, where it owns a 600-acre leasehold tract, on which it is planning to develop a township. To popularise the address, the developer plans to give away 50 acres for international schools to set up their campuses — for free. Says Su, “We are going to create job opportunities in that township. We will have hotels, resort homes, serviced apartments, bungalows, terraced houses and commercial components. This township can be a second home for foreigners, especially those from China.”

The launch however, will not be for another eight years. In the meantime, the developer is acquiring smaller parcels around the site to improve its access. “For those parcels that we can’t buy, we will talk to the authorities, especially on relocation of the squatters,” says Su.

On the land are two lakes totalling 100 acres which the developer plans to turn into an extreme water sports park. There will also be a 9- to 18-hole golf course.

Green will also be the buzzword here with the township focusing on eco-plantation, eco-tourism and eco-education. “I think many city children don’t even know what a chicken looks like. In Jasin, we will have breeding area for chickens and ducks.

Then we have two very deep and nice lakes. It will be a resort-themed project and it will be one of the main attractions for Malaysian tourism later,” Su says.

Having focused on medium-cost housing in Selangor over the last 35 years, the developer is ready to move to the next level, says co-founder Datuk Seow Cho Thoy. Its latest project - Bayou Lagoon Park Resort in Melaka - makes an impact as heir apparent Marco Seow sets out to transform the low-profile group.

Moving up to the next level

Harp Soon Corp Sdn Bhd may not be a familiar name in the property development faternity, but its founders, who keep a very low profile, have been around for 35 years now. Datuk Seow Cho Thoy collaborated with his younger brother C K Seow in forming Harp Soon Construction Sdn Bhd back in 1980.

The developer has since completed more than 30 projects worth RM800 million in Selangor, Seow informs City & Country. Its current total landbank in Selangor amounts to more than 200 acres, of which 20% is still undeveloped.

Having built mainly medium-cost housing so far, Harp Soon is now looking to gain prominence as a quality developer, with Seow slowly hands over the reins of the company to his eldest son Marco.
In its latest project — known as Bayou Lagoon Park Resort — which is also its first outside Selangor, Harp Soon is building medium-cost serviced apartments in Melaka.

Seow: It is important to know what the buyers want and satisfy their needsHarp Soon in Mandarin, says Seow, means “work together and smooth journey”, which the two brothers felt was an appropriate name for their joint effort. The company started work on its first project — a residential development in Teluk Panglima Garang, Kuala Langat, with a gross development value (GDV) of RM5 million — in 1980. Since then, it has developed several residential projects: Taman Emas in Kuala Langat, Taman Seri and Taman Sri Maju in Klang and Taman Intan and Taman Emas Jaya in Kapar.

Seow, 63, who is the chairman of Harp Soon Corp, is grooming Marco to take over the business. “Since I was young, I have been following my father to project sites and that is how the interest started,” comments Marco, who is the company’s executive director. He studied economics in Australia and graduated in 2005. Before he joined Harp Soon in 2007, he worked for a trading company.

Marco helps translate as his father tells City & Country his story in a mix of Hokkien and Bahasa Malaysia.

Seow’s family had come to Malaysia from Guangdong province in China when he was eight. “While studying here, I also repaired cars and planted tapioca. So you can say I started from scratch to where I am now.

“When I turned 25, I bought a piece of land in Klang for RM20,000 on which I built a factory as I already had a ready tenant for RM1,500 a month. In fact, the factory is still being rented out. That was when I first felt that property development was one of the most rewarding industries to be in,” he says.

Harp Soon focused on medium-cost mixed developments in the Klang Valley, adds Seow.

“I have gone through three recessions and I have learnt that during a recession, affordable housing fares well. So when the economy is not good, medium-cost housing in good locations is the way to go. It is important to know what the buyers want and satisfy their needs.”

An artist's impression of the RM250 million Bayou Lagoon Park ResortMarco agrees that medium-cost housing in good locations sells. He says, “My vision is to transform the Harp Soon group into a prominent name in the industry. I would like to continuously brand the company by winning internationally recognised awards.

“Recently, Bayou Lagoon Park Resort won the Asia-Pacific Top Excellence Brand 2010 from Global Business Magazine [a local Chinese publication].”

On his plans for the group, Marco says getting skilled human resources and building quality products will be key. “In property development, besides strategic landbank, which I plan to actively look for, we will implement the right and most innovative concept that will yield the highest possible returns and give our purchasers valued-added products,” he says. Competition, he adds, is getting tougher each day and there is a need to be creative to take the group to the next level.

“Although property development is our major business, I believe diversification will redistribute the risk proportionately. Three other industries which I believe have major potential are education, food and beverage and tourism,” he remarks.

As per capita income improves, people will be willing to spend more to improve their standards of living, he says. “Parents want the best education for their children so they can do well in the corporate world. Urban dwellers will spend more on food and beverages while globalisation makes travelling easier, which will in turn drive up the number of tourists within our country,” Marco says.

Bayou Lagoon Park Resort
Located on a 20-acre leasehold tract just 10 minutes from the centre of historic Melaka city, this project comprises four blocks of apartments and has a GDV of RM250 million. Seow says the previously vacant plot was acquired from Perbadanan Kemajuan Negeri Melaka in 2007, around the time Marco joined the company.

“We see great potential and strong growth in the tourism sector in Melaka. There is always demand for hotels and resorts as Melaka is known as a tourism hub. With its World Heritage City status, the state will surely go further in the tourism industry. That is why we decided to develop a resort there,” says Marco.

“Melaka is usually packed with tourists on weekends and there is demand for accommodation. We have tourists not only from Malaysia, but also Singapore, Hong Kong and China. This year, 8.5 million tourists are expected to visit the city.

“Actually we were approached, or rather encouraged, by the state government to develop there, maybe because of our reputation and track record,” observes Seow.

He says property prices in Malaysia are lower and have more upside potential than those in countries like Indonesia, Thailand, China and Vietnam. “Properties in Melaka have capital appreciation potential, I am sure. Our project there will have the first integrated private water park within a development of such a size,” he explains.

Only residents and their guests who stay in the resort can have access to the almost three-acre water park: “We want our guests/residents to have a feeling of exclusivity. The facilities in the water park include a sandy beach, water cannon, waterfall and slides,” says Seow.

The developer has appointed Crystal Crown Hotel & Resort Sdn Bhd as its consultant to provide technical and feasibility advice for the construction, development, management and operation of Bayou Lagoon Park Resort.

Buyers can stay there or lease the units to the developer for rental returns. Marco says the majority of buyers so far have opted for the 7% guaranteed rental returns (GRR) package per year, or a cumulative 35% for five years offered by the developer. The scheme includes 14 nights’ stay at the resort, or 70 nights for the five-year duration for owners. Other facilities available aside from the water park are a spa centre, gymnasium, billiard room, laundry service, swimming pool, child-care centre, video room, meeting and conference room (business centre), lounge pub, international cuisine restaurant and children’s playground.

“We had a soft launch for Bayou Lagoon Park Resort at the end of last year. The 13-storey Block A consists of 263 units with sizes ranging from 491 to 1,007 sq ft and priced from RM179,800.

Penthouses are not for sale though as the group wants to retain them for recurring income. Units are all fully furnished and the take-up so far is 95%,” Marco adds. Buyers are mainly from the Klang Valley, Singapore and Melaka.

The developer soft-launched Block B in early June and Marco says about 30% have been sold so far. “We actually did not expect Block A to sell so fast, so we decided to launch Block B in early June instead of later,” he explains.

The 12-storey Block B comprises 321 condos sized between 491 and 1,007 sq ft and priced from RM185,800. The launch of the subsequent two blocks will depend on the response to the first two.

In November this year, the developer plans to launch its 4.75-acre freehold Taman Desa Indah project in Kampung Jawa, Klang. There are a total of 75 units, of which 23 are 1-storey terraced homes, 40 are 2-storey terraced homes and the remaining 10 units 2-storey semi-detached homes. Prices for the properties range from RM150,900 for the 1-storey terraced homes to RM450,000 for the semidees.

Seow believes it is a good time to buy property now. “If the location and package offered by the developer are good, then it is a good buy. Property prices are expected to increase as the property market in Malaysia is better this year than last year,” he observes.

2010/09/28

- BERNAMA

State foundation thinking big
By PERCY D CRUZ
malacca@thestar.com.my

MALACCA: Yayasan Malacca, the state education foundation, is looking at ways to increase its current assets of RM387mil to RM1bil over the next decade.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, who is the foundation’s chairman, said the move was necessary to allow Yayasan to carry on providing funds for scholarships and grants.

“The core business of the foundation is education.

“However, the foundation can get involved in property development and agriculture as sound investment to increase their assets,” he told reporters here after officiating Yayasan Malacca’s 26th anniversary here on Friday.

View from above: Mohd Ali having a view from the 15th floor of Yayasan Melaka’s new RM38.4mil building.

He added the foundation would look at such ventures and set to achieve the RM1bil target by 2020.

The foundation, he said has collected RM266mil from 2006 to this year from five ventures including a 5,000ha oil palm plantation.

He commended the foundation’s effort in utilising RM21.5mil as scholarships and grants for local students furthering their studies.

“The foundation has come a long way since its humble beginnings at its office in Jalan Kota and later Jalan Hang Tuah.

“Today it is located at the state’s latest development hub in MITC within heart of Hang Tuah Jaya, he said.

Earlier, Mohd Ali officiated the foundation’s new 15th-storey building, which is expected to generate an income of RM439,000 in rental per year.

The RM38.4mil building was developed by bumiputra contractors under the Konsortium Kontrator Melayu (Melaka) Bhd in Feb 2008.

LNG import terminal study ready this year

Petronas Gas Bhd will complete a study on the construction of Malaysia’s first liquefied natural gas import terminal before the end of the year, Chairman Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin said.

“Petronas is planning to bring in imported LNG in 2014,” he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur today, referring to state oil company Petroliam Nasional Bhd.

“We have just been commissioned by Petronas to do a study on this regasification plant.”

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak said in June that Petronas plans to build a RM3 billion liquefied natural gas regasification plant in Melaka, south of Kuala Lumpur.

The terminal will be used to import LNG into Peninsular Malaysia, which accounts for more than 80 per cent of the nation’s energy use. Malaysia is the world’s biggest exporter of the cleaner-burning fuel after Qatar.

An import terminal with a capacity of about 3.5 million metric tons a year will take as long as two years to build, Wan Zulkiflee said. Petronas Gas is a subsidiary of Petronas. - Bloomberg

MALACCA: Visitors to the Historical City could soon enjoy a traffic light- free ride from the Ayer Keroh toll plaza to the city centre, thanks to the Melaka Tram project.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the Department of Railways had given the nod for the project.

"However, we would have to wait for the green light from the Public Works Department as there is a need to build four flyovers to ensure the path of the Melaka Tram is not affected by traffic-light junctions.

"The flyovers would be built at the Persimpangan Seri Negeri, Persimpangan Bukit Beruang-Bukit Katil, Persimpangan MBMB and the Persimpangan Muzium Tun Abdul Ghafar Baba.

"With the flyover, the tram's journey will be uninterrupted and the traffic flow from the Ayer Keroh toll plaza to the city centre will be smooth as there will be no traffic lights," said Ali after chairing the weekly state executive council meeting at the Seri Negeri yesterday.

He said the RM272 million tram project, similar to the one in Brisbane, Australia, could start construction early next year once the project received public feedback during a three-month objection period and also upon completion of the environmental impact assessment.

The Melaka Tram would have 23 stops along a 40km-route from Ayer Keroh to Banda Hilir, the heart of the historical city.

The project, a joint venture between Mrails International Sdn Bhd and Chief Minister Incorporated (CMI), is expected to be completed within a year. He said the project was mainly to cater for the influx of tourists to the city.

It is estimated that 250,000 passengers will use the trams monthly, providing an annual revenue of RM20 million.

Among the popular spots the tram will pass are Hotel Seri Malaysia, Botanical Gardens, Melaka Zoo, Melaka International Trade Centre, Taman Muzaffar Shah, Pantai Hospital, Masjid Al-Azim, Hospital Melaka, Renaissance Hotel, Dataran Pahlawan, Hotel Mahkota, Harbour Club, Equatorial Hotel and Bukit Baru.

Malacca government needs RM135mil to recreate Hang Tuah villlage in Kg Duyong
By CINDY TAN Friday October 1, 2010
http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2010/10/1/southneast/7129451&sec=southneast

MALACCA: The state government is seeking RM135mil to recreate the village of 14th century legendary Malay warrior Hang Tuah in Kampung Duyong, which has been identified as a tourist attraction.

The project, will cover a total area of 24.7ha within Kampung Duyong, next to Sungai Duyong with Hang Tuah’s well being one of the main attractions.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said 20 of the existing homes in the village would be restored while 25 kampung styled homes from all over the state would be also restored and relocated here.

“We have applied for the funding from the Federal Government and we are awaiting approval which we will know by the end of November.

“If all goes well, we can start the tender for the project by December,” he said, adding the project would be carried out in phases and was expected to be completed in 2012.

He told reporters this after accompanying Malacca Governer Tun Mohd Khalil Yaakob on a visit to the proposed site in Kampung Duyong here on Monday.

Besides restoring and preserving the homes, he said the village would also house a museum and gallery, as well as homes of the five famous Malay warriors during the 14th Century Malay Sultanate (Hang Tuah, Hang Jebat, Hang Lekir, Hang Kasturi and Hang Lekiu).

“We also plan to build an arena for playing tops as well as a silat arena to showcase the art of silat, especially those that was practiced during Hang Tuah’s time,” he added.

Kampung Duyong is said to be the birthplace of Hang Tuah, the legendary warrior who served the Malacca Sultanate Empire.

The present village is said to be the Hang Tuah’s home, owing to the presence of an ancient well, believed to have healing properties and said to have been dug by Hang Tuah.

Eyeing China’s ferris wheel
Story by ALLISON LAI and CINDY TAN Monday May 10, 2010
http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?sec=southneast&file=/2010/5/10/southneast/6199555

MALACCA: After almost four months since the Eye on Malaysia has been left idle due to a legal tussle with its owners, the state government is now eyeing the possibility of getting a replacement ferris wheel from China.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the state was considering replacing the current 62m ferris wheel following a breakdown in negotiations with the Belgian company Fitraco NV.

“We have offered to lease it from the company with 20% profit sharing but they seem to be more interested in looking for a buyer,” he told reporters after chairing the state exco meeting here last week.

If negotiations were to fail, he said the state was looking at a 90m Chinese ferris wheel, which only cost about RM7mil, to replace the current Eye On Malaysia.

“We may reuse the name Eye on Malaysia for the new wheel or even change its name to the Eye on The Straits of Malacca,” he said, adding that the company must then remove their wheel in due course.

It was learnt that the state had offered RM10mil, including profit sharing to the company that was seeking RM18mil for their wheel.

The ferris wheel, the tallest in the country, was brought in by MST Ad Suria Sdn Bhd after taking a lease with Fitraco, a specialist in leasing entertainment equipment.

The wheel was placed at Tasik Titiwangsa, Kuala Lumpur as part of the Visit Malaysia Year campaign in 2007.

Ad Suria subsequently entered into a joint venture agreement with state subsidiary Kumpulan Melaka Berhad in September 2008 to bring the Eye On Malaysia to Kota Laksamana next to the Malacca River.

On Sept 15 last year, Fitraco filed a suit at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur to recover a RM17mil debt owed to the company by Ad Suria.

Fitraco succeeded in gaining control of the ferris wheel on Jan 7 this year and was subsequently granted the right by the High Court to take possession and remove it.

Eye on Malaysia comes down

Work in progress: The iconic ferris wheel being dismantled in Kota Laksamana.
A crane and several huge containers to house the gondolas were also seen
at the site yesterday.

MALACCA: The 10-month long controversy over the iconic Eye on Malaysia finally came to an end with its dismantling late Thursday evening.

Its owner, Belgian company Fitraco NV, has been given three weeks to dismantle the 62m-tall wheel and remove it from the 1.6ha state-owned land in Kota Laksamana next to the Malacca River.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the company had found an overseas buyer and agreed to remove the structure.

“I was informed that work to dismantle the Eye on Malaysia began on Thursday evening,” he told reporters after launching the new Panorama Coaches and One-Million Melaka Maju 2010 postcards here yesterday.

He said the state would still seek rental amounting to RM10,000 per day from Fitraco since they took possession of the wheel on Jan 7.

“We are looking at resolving the matter amicably.

“However, we will leave it to the courts to decide,” he added.

Meanwhile, Mohd Ali said the state would decide later this month on the purchase of a new replacement ferris wheel from China.

“We are considering a 82m-tall wheel at a cost of RM7mil or a larger 125m-tall wheel for RM15mil,” he said.

On Jan 7, Fitraco obtained a High Court order to take possession of the wheel from MST Ad Suria Sdn Bhd following the latter’s failure to repay an RM18mil loan under a leasing agreement.

MST Ad Suria brought the wheel into the country in 2007 and placed it at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with Visit Malaysia Year 2007.

It was later moved to Kota Laksamana next to the Malacca River in September 2008 under a joint venture agreement between MST Ad Suria and Eye On Malaysia Sdn Bhd (EOM), a subsidiary of state-owned company Kumpulan Melaka Berhad.

Naza Motor Trading buka kilang di Melaka

MELAKA 5 Okt. - Syarikat automotif, Naza Motor Trading Sdn.

Ketua Menteri, Datuk Seri Mohd.

if the government really do want to make the road be like Orchard road, i really do hope to see more public open spaces. But from what i can see so far, they are doing the otherwise, making it a major traffic route which pushes people off the street. =(

i think the berjaya and hatten projects should be focused heavily on the hotel industry, not shopping. Some shops are needed for the tourists, but, i hate to see another mega shopping complex in the making. Rather than that, I prefer to see well designed public park and recreational facility beneath the hotel. The government should be able to see a clearer picture and disapprove shopping mall proposals.

so you want to see another plaza melaka raya in the making? Free market without restriction is not always good. They do shopping mall because they want to make money, but no or little feasibility study done. The role of the city planner is to control how the city grows based on in-depth feasibility study, so that all city structures are fully utilised, not abandoned. Hence, planning permit should not be given just for the sake of looking good outside. And in the case of Malacca, i am pretty sure everyone can see clearly that shopping isn't doing that great. I would prefer the city council should improve the residential sector, the urban landscape, infrastructure and increase workplaces as means to increase the population, only then we can consider more shopping malls.

Agree , the shopping malls n Malacca is more than enough , we should increase the population until the mall is pack with people every weekend , then only we increase the number of mall . Well , that 4 story mall is handle by Hatten , so nothing we can do , we just hope that the 43 story apartment can fully sold out .

yer lah the private sector want to make money, whether they done extensive studies or not,its up to them, not the government, they are the one taking up the risk and putting their own money on the line here...they are the one that either make money, or lose it all if the predict wrongly or done a bad job at it..:ohno:..if plaza melaka raya had done at least a half descend jobs, they would not be abandoned, even madam king and song seng plaza are surviving even as new player came into town, restricting new player,so that old ones can survive is the reason why we are uncompetitive or innovative in the first place

in depth studies particularly in economics,is not an exact sciences, when air asia started nobody in the goverment or private believe them, they think the market is already saturated, thanks god, dr m give them the license anyway,

i agreed that control is needed, you can't allowed factory or ladang ternak near houses or something like kota laksmana, where the development there didn't not unlock the true value and potential of the site:bash:..

as for the residential, other state got freehold, we got almost none, so maybe because of it residential properties and market kinna sucks, lanscape, oklah compare according to malaysian standard, however the infrastructure and work placement are sadly need federal participation, when others state are either themselves rich or are getting massive pump in on infrastructural project and incentive or being part of an economic corridor TO attract investment and increase job placement, melaka got NONE:bash::bash: we are even not represented in the kabinet, so pity us huh? how can we survive,.. transform ourself into funfair state?..its not all bad,at least this funfair pays the 3rd highest custom duty after kl and selangor:banana:, but its really uncool

and weirdly politician from either side of the bench also not making any sound

Go-kart circuit hits a bump
MALACCA: The RM9.9mil Malacca International Motorsports Circuit in Durian Tunggal, the pride of the state and the largest go-kart circuit in the region, has hit a roadblock over a financial dispute.

The premises was sealed last Friday following a legal dispute between its operators and the state.

The 1.7km track, which was opened in May 15 last year, was sealed by the State Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) following a Sessions Court order against the circuit operators Lembah Kelang Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd (LKC) for unsettled debts amounting to RM210,000.

SEDC general manager Zainal Abu confirmed yesterday that proceedings were initiated against LKC two months ago for failing to settle the rental and three-month deposit.

SEDC had earlier terminated the lease to LKC after the company failed to pay the deposit and rental as agreed.

Zainal said the court gave a decision favourable to SEDC three weeks ago followed by an order for the court bailiff to seal the circuit, and later auction off LKC’s belongings to repay the debt.

The closure of the circuit was pending the settlement of the auction.

“The circuit will be opened once the matter is settled. SEDC has decided to manage the track itself rather that lease it out again,” said Zainal.

On allegations by LKC that SEDC had failed to obtain the necessary licence from the Commission Internationale de Karting – the primary international sanctioning body for kart-racing – and rectifying the frequent flooding in the circuit, Zainal said the company was free to take the matter to court.

It was learned that the LKC was looking at the possibility of filing a counter-suit against SEDC. LKC managing director Shaharul Mohd Ali declined to comment.

LKC had stopped paying rental of RM30,000 to SEDC earlier this year, claiming complaints about the circuit were not attended to by SEDC.

Tipped to be the largest go-kart track in the region, MIMC, located on a 35ha site, is Malaysia’s second international-standard status circuit after SIC in Sepang.

MALACCA: The state's tourism sector will receive a shot in the arm with the construction of two new hotels -- Hilton Hotel and All Seasons Hotel.

The developer of both the hotels, Hatten Group CEO Datuk Eric Tan, said a 1,100-unit apartment block and a commercial centre would also be built.

"The tallest building in Malacca will be built under this project.

"With 43 storeys, the building will change the landscape of Melaka Raya and the Malacca coastline.

"The project will be developed next to the Harbour Club in Melaka Raya and will involve an investment of RM300 million," he said.

Tan said the Hilton Hotel, a five-star establishment, would have 250 rooms while the All Seasons Hotel, a two-star hotel, would have 350 rooms.

"The two hotels and the service apartments will provide Malacca with an additional 1,700 rooms," Tan said, in a briefing session with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam at the Hatten Square.

Tan said the groundbreaking ceremony for the hotels would be performed in December.

He said the project would be completed in five years and would provide job opportunities to about 3,000 people.

Meanwhile, Tan also announced that the 700-room Hatten Hotel would open its doors in September next year.

The chief minister said the state's tourism sector was picking up.

Ali said some eight million tourists were expected to visit the historical city this year, up from 7.5 million last year.

"We need more hotel rooms in the state. With the opening of Hilton and All Seasons we will be able to ensure that visitors have a better choice of accommodation," he said.

Ali said work to widen Jalan Merdeka, opposite Dataran Pahlawan, from the two lanes to five lanes, would be complete in two months.

"Once completed, the 2km stretch from Menara Taming Sari up to Hatten Square would be known as Pahlawan City," he said.

malacca received RM428m in investments

MELAKA: Melaka's industrial sector received foreign investments of RM428 million approved by the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA) between January and April this year.

Invest Melaka General Manager, Ramli Mohd Ali is confident that the investment figure will reach the RM3 billion target by year-end.

"Last year, we only managed RM928 million in investments," he told reporters after a Invest Melaka breaking of fast ceremony with the media here last night.

He said at present, Melaka was focused on attracting foreign investments from the manufacturing sector in biotechnology, green technology and pharmaceuticals.

He also highlighted the cordial relations between investors and the state government, the good management of industrial facilities and competitive pricing of industrial land, were among the important factors attracting investors to the state.

Meanwhile, Ramli said the industrial sector in Melaka at present, had more than 58,000 workers and about 17,000 of them were foreign workers.

He said the issue of factories in Melaka giving priority to recruiting foreign workers did not arise as it needed among others, the support of the Manpower Department, MIDA and Invest Melaka, in scrutinising the needs.

"Companies need not recruit foreign workers as Melaka has local workers. Invest Melaka too does not allow the recruitment of foreign workers along with the Manpower Department and MIDA," he added.

He said that if Invest Melaka received a report of a factory in any area finding it difficult to recruit local workers, it would organise open interviews for the management, such as that recently undertaken in Jasin.

According to Ramli, Invest Melaka is also responsible to ensure factory workers laid-off as a result of downsizing or the closure of plants, can seek new employment opportunities in the manufacturing sector. -- BERNAMA

The declaration will be done via "online" from Kuala Lumpur, said Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ali Rustam.

The quest to get developed status for the state under a 10-year plan known as Melaka Maju 2010 had been achieved after the state had met the 32 criteria set by the Organisation of Economic Cooperation and Development to qualify as a developed economy, he said on the "Helo Malaysia" talkshow on Bernama TV last night.

OECD is a grouping of the world's 33 richest countries with the highest per GDP. The country with the lowest per capita GNP in the OECD is Turkey at US$13,000 while that of Melaka had already reached US$14,261.

"In just 10 years, which is a relatively short time, Melaka had succeeded in meeting the criteria set by the OECD, which is headquartered in Paris. This is something very encouraging," said Ali.

He said the improving quality of life in Melaka had been proven in that its poverty rate had dropped to 0.5 percent this year from 5.4 percent in 2000.

In line with the establishment of the Energy, Green Energy and Water Ministry by the prime minister, Ali said Melaka aspired to be a green technology city state in 10 years by emphasising the use of renewable energy like solar and reducing pollution.

"We have invested RM3.2 billion in a solar cell energy plant, Sun Power from the United States, in Rumbia. In the next 10 years, the Rumbia industrial estate is poised to be a solar valley with industries and housing using solar energy," he said.

Ali said a 120 hectare site in Bemban would be turned into a green city with houses, offices and institutions using alternative energy like solar.

He said the state government had already bought several electric cars in efforts to reduce carbon emissions in tourist areas.

On Melaka's economy, he said the participation of bumiputeras in the last 10 hectares had been
encouraging, especially in the tourism sector and in retailing.

Ali said the services sector, comprising tourism, education and healthcare, contributed to 70 percent of the state's economy.

On tourist arrivals, he said Melaka attracted 8.9 million tourists last year from 1.7 million 10 years ago and the target this year was expected to exceed nine million tourists.

On the 2011 Budget, Ali hoped that Melaka would be given funds to develop its infrastructure and facilities, including lighting up the entire Malacca beach.

As for the introduction of a 1.6 km monorail service in the tourist belt along the Melaka River between the Hang Tuah Bride and Hang Jebat Bridge, he said the operators were awaiting licensing approval so that it could operate soon. - Bernama

UiTM project off the ground and on to Jasin
By LEE YEN MUN
yenmun@thestar.com.my

KUALA LUMPUR: The Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campus, originally planned for Serendah but rejected by the Selangor state government, will begin construction this month in Jasin.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had intervened and got the project off the ground when problems occurred.

He added he would be the defender of the Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK or the Poverty Eradication Foundation), the non-profit movement which heads the UiTM project through its subsidiary YBK Sdn Bhd.

“I urge the YBK to not give up. If the state government does not help, the Federal Govern*ment will,” Najib said to thunderous applause at YBK’s 20th anniversary dinner held at the Sime Darby Convention Centre last night.

He said that he hoped that the 1,600 acres of land in Serendah, the original site for the proposed university, would be used for developments to benefit the poor in the state.

“Let this incident serve as a reminder for us. If Barisan Nasional were to take over Selangor again, this dream (for the poor) would be a reality,” said Najib.

Earlier, foundation chairman Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom said in his speech that Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim rejected its proposal to build the university as Zainal had refused to step down from his position as wanted by Khalid.

He told The Star later that he then sought the assistance of the Prime Minister, who convinced the Melaka state government to allow the project to be built at Jasin.

Green status to boost Malacca

Ali said the state would pursue this after it was officially declared as a city state on Oct 20.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is scheduled to make the declaration on that night, after Malacca had met the criteria set by the Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD).

Malacca has achieved 90.6 per cent of the standards set by OECD by fulfilling the 29 indicators, which covers areas such as health, unemployment level, per capita income and clean water supply.

Green technology refers to environmentally-friendly infrastructure used in developing Malacca.

To date, the state is using 10 garbage cleaning cars designed based on green technology while it plans to harness renewable energy from a windmill in Pulau Besar.

A RM3.2 billion factory to produce solar panels is being constructed and these will be supplied to the "Malacca World Solar Valley" in Alor Gajah.

It is also seeking help from the Federal Government to build an incinerator either in Alor Gajah or Jasin.

"The trend these days is towards green technology. Most developed nations apply this technology as it allows for development without comprising the environment.

"We can attract up to RM1 billion a year if we are awarded this status," he said after the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the Malacca government, Media Prima and the New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad at Seri Pentas here yesterday.

The MoU will see Media Prima as the organisers and the official media for "Melaka Maju", a state government initiative to showcase its development.

State Secretary Datuk Omar Kaseh represented Malacca, while Media Prima was represented by its Group chief executive officer of television networks Datuk Seri Farid Ridzuan.

The New Straits Times Press (Malaysia) Berhad was represented by its advertising and sales director Badrul Hisham Mahzan.

Also present was Media Prima Berhad news and editorial operations executive director Datuk Ahmad A. Talib

Kerjaya Hotel Sdn Bhd plans to invest RM400 million to build a four-star 32-storey hotel, the highest in Melaka, together with three blocks of serviced apartments.

Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam, in announcing the project, said the hotel will be developed on a 3.645-hectare site and is expected to be completed in 2014.

"The hotel will add to the 11,402 rooms available now for the convenience of tourists visiting Melaka," he said the project''s ground-breaking ceremony at Kampung Bunga Raya Pantai here today.
The hotel, to be named Kerjaya Hotel, will have 306 rooms and is expected to employ 400 workers.

Mohd Ali said the first section to be built will be the 32-storey hotel, followed by the three blocks of 27-storey serviced apartments which will comprise 700 units.

"The hotel has targeted 75 per cent occupancy and hopefully, will help the state government to extend the stay of tourists from 1.89 nights achieved last year," he said.

He also said that 136 residents occupying 80 houses in the development area will receive compensation amounting to RM1.93 million.

Mohd Ali also announced that starting in the first week of next month, Riau Airlines will be using the Boeing 737 aircraft which can carry up to 140 passengers for its daily flights between Melaka and Pekan Baru, Riau.

Malacca developed status self-declared, says OECD official

By Clara Chooi
November 02, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 — The Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) has confirmed that it had not endorsed Malacca’s developed state status, despite the declaration by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak made during a grand celebration on October 20.

OECD representative Jon Hall explained to The Malaysian Insider via email that the media could have misunderstood OECD’s role in the issue, pointing out that the organisation was not in the position to make such an endorsement.

“The OECD did not endorse the Malaccan declaration, mainly because we are not in a position to do so.

“As I tried to stress in my speech on Wednesday (October 20), there is no official definition of a developed country (at least none that I am aware of) so the OECD are in no position to set the criteria,” he said.

Hall, who managed the OECD-hosted Global Project on Measuring the Progress of Societies, was present during the celebration held on the auspicious 2010 hour on 20.10.2010 at the Stadium Hang Jebat here.

During the event, Najib had declared Malacca a developed state via tele-conferencing from Kuala Lumpur to a fan of thousands gathered at the ceremony, amid much pomp and pageantry.

Despite the celebration however, an email war broke out between OECD officials shortly after, with questions on whether the organisation had rightfully endorsed such a status on the small southern state.

OECD is a grouping of the world’s 33 richest countries with the highest GDP. The country with the lowest per capita GNP in the OECD is Turkey at US$13,000 while that of Malacca had already reached US$14,261. Malaysia itself has aimed to achieve developed nation status by 2020.

In a press event prior to the celebration, Malacca Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ali Rustam had claimed that the state had achieved its developed-state status after it met with the 32 criteria set by the OECD to qualify as a developed economy.

He had also pointed out that this initiative was a part of a 10-year development plan for the country’s second smallest state, known as Melaka Maju 2010.

According to news reports, Hall had said during the event that Malaccans had higher than the OECD’s minimum levels in virtually all indicators.

In his email response however, Hall noted that although he had been present during the event, he was not aware if there were any claims made at the time that the OECD had official endorsed the developed-state declaration.

“As most of the proceedings and press conference were in Malaysian (Bahasa Malaysia), and I did not have an interpreter, I do not know whether anyone claimed that the OECD had endorsed the declaration.

“One journalist did say something like that to me in question and I pointed out that we had not endorsed anything although we were pleased that statistics had played a strong part in the debate.

“Perhaps there has just been a misunderstanding in one of the newspapers,” he said.

Hall also clarified that the OECD had no such criteria set to determine what made a state “developed” and pointed out that the declaration was purely an initiative of the Malaccan government.

“The criteria you mention were set by the Malaccan statistics office and benchmarked against OECD member countries — all that work was done by the Malaccan authorities although they used the OECD data where possible, I believe,” he said.

Hall however agreed that he had been in contact with the Malaccan authorities on their initiative and work over the past few years.
The authorities, he added, had wanted to provide some statistical evidence of the state’s development and goal towards reaching a developed state status by 2010.

“They felt that one way would be to benchmark themselves to the OECD averages, which to me, seems as a reasonable approach as any so long as they picked a selection of indicators (not just income-based ones) and had a public debate,” he said.

Hall said it was for the locals themselves to decide whether they were or were not developed, not bodies like the OECD.

“And this is what the Malaccan authorities did, or appear to have done, and they even ran a survey of the public to see what the Malaccans themselves thought about their development status,” he said.

a quote from here http://syedsoutsidethebox.blogspot.com/2010/10/melaka-maju-2010-2010-2010.html

Although there is no specific definition of what is an “advanced State” the OECD Secretariat did provide 32 factors or benchmarks which had been achieved by the OECD countries like the European nations, Japan, US, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. Malacca has achieved 29 out of 32 of those benchmarks.

SPEECH BY MR JONATHAN HALL, OECD

20 OCTOBER, 2010.

According to the data you have prepared, you Melakans are above the minimum levels in the OECD for virtually all of your indicators. Your life expectancy at birth – a key development indicator – is now at the level of the USA’s in the late 1970s. More than half of all Melakans have access to the Internet. All Melakans have access to clean water and electricity. One just has to walk through this great World Heritage city to see the speed of change and development here. And other things are surely changing too here, just as they are changing everywhere.

And here is a picture of the congratulatory note from the OECD to Malacca. It is written on the OECD's letterhead. This “note” was framed and handed over by Jonathan Hall to the Chief Minister on 20/10.

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_P6bgLo1z_aw/TNIbGxnhf_I/AAAAAAAACOQ/JmhzNQ9cqt4/s1600/Nota+Tahniah+%29.jpg

The first line of the third paragraph says it again :

"Congratulations to all who worked so hard to achieve these benchmarks."

Again it does not declare Melaka a "developed State". Malacca has achieved 29 of 32 OECD benchmarks. More importantly Malacca has set the pace now. Hopefully the rest of the country will follow suit.

Please stop shiok sendiri about Melaka Maju state anymore, it is certainly embarrassing.

there are no such "criteria" nor any institution that can claim which nation is maju or not
it is declared by your own self and what the citizen fell,..and what is your evidence, in this case the evidence is "benchmarking" against OECD nation..

the fact is melaka is not only above the min level but had higher average than a group of 23 most powerful, richest nation is an achievement in it self, should we feel "malu" for that?

the fact is statistic don't lied, and i have meet lot of people who will be so delighted and kutuk kau kau, whenever empirical studies that found malaysia as backward, but these same people will just senyap mcm batu, when malaysian statistic were good, this what we should be malu about..what kind of citizen that we are having?..

infact,in 2003,malacca HDI is 0.810 while singapore HDI index is 0.906, just slightly above 0.9,which is what CIA considered as develop..so singaporean also should malu lah eh?..coz the considered themself develop long long time ago..how about brunei,in the world forum, most forumer believe that brunei is long been a develop country with massive GDP per capita, in 2003,their HDI index is 0.866

and i was told that the benchmark was adopted from the korean, when they are to gouge whether they are develop or not...

like i said, there is no one other than yourself can 'mengaku' whether you are maju or not, just like intelligence or beauty, nobody can tell or acknowledge that you are smart or goodlooking, you can find evidence of your intellectual in the form of degree or PHD,or win a beautycontest .but still it up for you or anyone else to acknowledge that you are one...the benchmarking are evidence, and that what the OECD givenwhich for me is ok

in conclusion i believe either
1) datok ali was never a smart boy, he doesn't understand it so he mix up the word
2)he understand it,but he simplified it, for the common folks to understand
3) he's a glory hoer,..which leed me to suggest,he should entered akademi fantasia:)

but to say that melakkan in general, are backward society and should be ashame is too much, particularly when we have prove that we are not..

if melaka is a gurl huh, she would say "how can u say that im not beautiful, when statistically i got above median from the 23 which other claim are the most beautiful in the world??..
so &%$#@(..." hahaha

Well it is the right thing to be accurate and to be objective. But I find it sad when people are in a hurry to deny their own peoples' achievements simply because of hate, politics and maybe even racism. When you are blinded by your emotions, surely you and your children have much to lose. Do try to be objective.

Some people have tried to cast doubt that Melaka was not declared an “OECD State” by the OECD. They were not. There is no such thing. This has been made clear.

What has been achieved is that there were 32 indicators or benchmarks that are common to the OECD countries. As I wrote earlier Melaka has achieved 29 of these 32 benchmarks. And Melaka presented the statistics about this achievement to the OECD. The OECD in turn has recognized Malacca’s achievements.

Perhaps Joker CM Ali Rooster dont understand Kwai Loh Frenlish. That y he shiok sendiri.

always been my thought, that being a developed country (never heard of "developed state" until Khir Toyol made the declaration) one are able to move from one location to another at the shortest time and at affordable prices. But look at our public transports, our bus services are in the sorry state.
to go to a location which merely 6km took me hours..

so how can it become developed state when it cant even provide an efficient and reliable public transportation.

Ali Rooster embarrass malaccan by claiming our GDP is higher than Turkey. Though Turkey is a member of the OECD but it is not perceived as Developed nations. Turkey is a country whereas Melaka is just a state. How can he compared Country and State's GDP. Like comparing an orange seed with an apple. And In the reports shown in Melaka Hari Ini, our crime rate is the lowest compare with member states of the OECD, eg. Luxemburg, Sweden, Norway. Do you believe that?

it would matter bro:)

coz i found lots of lots of people who will compare the 300,000++ sq km of malaysia to a city down south which is 0.26% of her size in a heart beat

and then, they will go on and on and on bitching on how much we suck:lol:

And In the reports shown in Melaka Hari Ini, our crime rate is the lowest compare with member states of the OECD, eg. Luxemburg, Sweden, Norway. Do you believe that?

in the word of Jacque Fresco,“Language is exact science and not subject to interpretation.”
so it must not be a matter of believe it or not(mcm ripley's plk:lol:), if they had evidence put it on the table:),..
but again i found a lot of people who did not believe in statistic:bash:

sorry la, i am not politician but you can ask around opinion about the stupid self declaration of "Melacca as developed state"..

somemore trying to relate this to racism...you are totally out of topic, lol

to tell you the truth, to develop is good, but the bad planning that causes huge amount of money wasted is definitely not encouraging. And the act shiok sendiri is really a stupid act that make yourself looks dumb..just look at any developed countries, no one will declare themself as "developed" in such a way...this is definitely looks idiotic and shameful for people...

Malacca seeks RM122mil to maintain rivers
Saturday November 6, 2010
http://thestar.com.my/metro/story.asp?file=/2010/11/6/southneast/7357808&sec=southneast

MALACCA: The state has requested RM122mil from the Federal Government to maintain Malacca’s rivers in the 10th Malaysia Plan (10MP).

State Rural and Agriculture Development Committee chairman Datuk Mohamad Hidhir Abu Hasan said Alor Gajah is expected to obtain more than RM32mil in funds, while Jasin will receive RM38mil and Melaka Tengah with RM51 mil.

“The allocation for Melaka Tengah comprised maintenance and beautification of Pulau Besar for tourism purposes at a cost of RM5mil, and improving the water quality of Sungai Melaka costing RM5 million,” he said in response to a question from Datuk Ab Rahaman Ab Karim (BN-Pantai Kundor) at the state assembly sitting.

Mohamad Hidhir said Sungai Kesang, Sungai Melaka and Sungai Linggi were sources for drinking water while Sungai Duyong, Sungai Udang, Sungai Air Salak, Sungai Ayer Hitam, Sungai Simpang Ampat, Sungai Lendu, Sungai Siput and Sungai Rembau provided water for various activities such as agriculture.

He said the state had implemented various programmes to make sure water sources remained clean, such as the formation of the State Water Resources Council, One-State-One-River programme and encouraging the use of rain water harvest systems.

In appreciating the rivers, he said the state also ensured that each housing or industrial development heeded the ‘Manual for Environmentally Friendly Drainage’, each land opening prepared a Land Work Settlement Control and that houses near rivers faced the river.

In response to a supplementary question from Goh Leong San (DAP-Kesidang), Mohamad Hidhir said cleaning works on Sungai Solok Menggong in Alor Gajah was expected to finish this month and the state government would make sure no sand was taken from the river except for cleaning purposes. – Bernama

Pahlawan City makes history in Malacca

Wed, Dec 01, 2010
New Straits Times

MALACCA - THE convergence of Dataran Pahlawan Melaka Megamall and Hatten Square Suites & Shoppes will make history in Malacca.

The integration of Dataran Pahlawan, which is already the biggest complex in the south of Malaysia, and Hatten Square, will create 92,903.04sq m of retail space and give birth to Pahlawan City - the biggest shopping complex south of the country.

Hatten Group Sdn Bhd executive director Collin Tan said Pahlawan City would be a a one-stop centre with shopping, entertainment and information technology retail lots.

"Pahlawan City will have retail shops, entertainment outlets and a digital lifestyle centre under one roof.

"The retail shops are mainly for tourists, both domestic and international, while the entertainment will mainly cater to the needs of locals looking for a fun-filled outing alone or with loved ones.

"The digital lifestyle centre's target group are teenagers and those who are into gadgets like cameras, laptops and handphones."

Tan said there was a need for a dedicated IT centre in Malacca.

"Information technology is a huge market and having a one-stop centre for it would not only benefit shoppers but also retailers."

He said many IT traders also did not have their outlets in strategic locations as their outlets were usually on the higher floors of complexes.

"At IT@Hatten, we are dedicating the ground floor with an area of 60,000sq ft (5,574.18sq m) to provide customers with a one-stop digital lifestyle solution centre.

"This is only the start. We could expand the area for the digital lifestyle centre to the first and second floors."

Tan said the Hatten Group, which manages Dataran Pahlawan and Hatten Square, was confident that a big mall in the heart of the historical city with dedicated areas for fashion, entertainment and IT would be a success.

"Tourism in Malacca is booming and by year-end, we could be getting nine million tourists, from Malaysia and from all four corners of the world.

Tan also spoke of the availability of 1,500 parking lots for visitors to Hatten Square and Dataran Pahlawan.

"We have ample parking space for visitors and for a mere RM2 (S$0.8) on weekdays and RM3 (S$1.3) on weekends, shoppers could park their vehicles for the whole day to shop, dine, and enjoy the entertainment available here.

"There are special security guards at the level 3 parking area to accompany visitors to and from the mall.

"This is to ensure the safety of the female patrons and offer greater peace of mind," he said.

There are over 470 rooms and suites in Hatten Square. The suites are available for sale.

The soft launch of Hatten Square is today.

The digital lifestyle centre will open on Dec 24.

Melaka bangun taman tema ala-Disneyland

2010/12/10

RM300m film city, theme park for Malacca

2010/12/11
By Jason Gerald John
jasong@nst.com.my

MALACCA: Malaysia will soon have a theme park the likes of Disneyland and Universal Studio -- at least a local version of it. The ambitious RM300 million project will be built in Ayer Keroh, within the confines of the Green City of Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council.

To be named Laman Seni Film City, the private project will be fully developed by Fine Leisure Development Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Eurofine (M) Sdn Bhd, on 21.668ha, near the Ayer Keroh toll plaza.

Construction is scheduled to start early next year and it will be completed in 2014.

It will feature two academies related to film, complete with editing, graphics and digital studios.

Eurofine founder and managing director Ida Rahayu Md Noor said the idea for the project was mooted in 2000 and has materialised after 10 years of planning and development.

"We wanted to create a Malaysian theme park. Now we are set to embark on this project, which would see Laman Seni Film City being up and running in three years," Ida Rahayu said after signing an agreement on the purchase of the land from Yayasan Melaka here yesterday.

Laman Seni Film City will also incorporate four family theme parks, which will be based solely on the animation movies that have been produced by Eurofine's subsidiary, Fine Animation Sdn Bhd.

"Among the animation movies and series that we have under our wings are Yokies, Frootees and Putih.

"Besides this, the film city will also have a hotel, a shopping complex and two recreational and entertainment centres," Ida Rahayu said.

During the ceremony, Eurofine was represented by Ida Rahayu, its group chairman Rina Mohd Harun and its group director of publishing, Azlina Din, while Yayasan Melaka, a subsidiary of the Malacca government, was represented by two of its board members, Ibrahim Nordin and Zaleha Bujang.

The event was witnessed by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam.

Ida Rahayu said Eurofine hoped to put the proposed Laman Seni Film City on the world map like the popular attractions Disneyland, Universal Studio and Legoland in the United States.

"We aim to make the proposed film city known all over the world in the next five years," she said, adding that the theme park was expected to attract more than one million visitors from both within the country and the region, once operational

Malacca's monorail service comes to a stop :ohno:

MALACCA: Barely two months after its grand launch to mark Malacca’s developed state status, the city’s RM15.9mil monorail line has ground to a halt owing to a host of problems.

Launched on Oct 20, the monorail has been idle for a month after developing problems with its wheels and software system.

The China-made monorail line, spanning 1.6km from Taman Rempah in Pengkalan Rama to Kampung Bunga Raya Pantai along the Malacca River, is part of the state’s aim to tap the potential of the river as a tourist attraction.
