dengilo January 6th, 2012, 12:18 AM When u have all the space in the world why do need a flyover? When they reclaim the coastline like that, all the super prime lot facing the sea is no longer as valuable as it used to be. Can the owners sue the government?
daeng_jal January 6th, 2012, 04:51 AM Its either that.or your land and property are being forcefully aquire much lower than market price for private developer greed like in thamby time

That's bad :ohno:
All I know is that some of the owners did discuss on sueing but the process is
U can see there are more mansions that are abandoned now at the klebang area. :bash:

soon we will have the skyline, but the government should look at the streetscape along those roads now(Jalan Taming Sari, Jalan Tun Sri Lanang, Jalan Bunga Raya, and Jalan Bendahara), as they form such a vital gateway to melaka city, and right now, they are in a mess (traffic jam, not pedestrian friendly, fragmented, etc). In fact, Hang Tuah walk shouldn't be done in such extravagant way, but funding should be allocated to the above roads more than Hang Tuah walk. :)

Hotel ordered to halt works to ‘save’ pre-war structures
MALACCA: A local councillor has obtained a temporary stop-work order to “save” a row of pre-war buildings in Jalan Parameswara here that could be at risk with the construction of a hotel nearby.
Piling work for the multi-storey hotel has been causing anxiety among the proprietors of the shophouses who are worried about structural damage to their property.
Malacca Historic City Council's (MBMB) councillor Ronald Gan said the council issued the order after cracks appeared on two of the buildings.
“Work will only be allowed to resume after reports are submitted by a high-level committee appointed separately by the MBMB and the hotel developer,” he said after visiting the site yesterday.
Gan claimed that piling work on the 17-storey hotel site had caused soil movement, affecting the structure of the pre-war shophouses.
“Engineers will propose alternatives to avoid direct piling.
“Currently, our priority is the safety of the dwellers besides tourists as the pre-war shophouses are within the tourist belt and Unesco heritage site buffer zone,” he said.
Gan said the premise owners had voiced their concerns over their heritage-status buildings being affected by the construction work.
One of the buildings, he said, bore the British royal coat of arms, indicating that the place could be more than 150 years old.
One of the proprietors, Tan Chin Chin, 40, said she lodged a police report on Dec 29 in a bid to have the contractor discontinue piling work.

the pedestrian walkway at above street should also be connected to the river walkway and finding some small lots in between as urban park
but walkway alone isn't sufficient as i always felt than there is a need for incentive to make those shop at old town part like bunga raya, jln hang tuah, mushi abdullah, bandahara to actually open their shop on sat n SUNDAY and extended their operation till nite..
the stretch of parasmewara that closed to traffic, need more action to keep it more alive, too much museum and some of it should be closed to make space for restaurant and art gallery, while the museum are move to abandoned building at the above area, to attract tourist there..
ohh and the river cruise should have a one day ticket like old rapidkl rather than one way right now so we could hop on and off to visit any place along it and the ticket could also be used to ride busses.
i guess funding would't be a problem as big mamma tourist minister are very fond of melaka..heck she even give mlk half her ministry fund:)

calaris January 8th, 2012, 09:44 AM Hi, I am new here. Is there gonna be any development around the area of Paya Rumput? Is the Taman paya rumput perdana equally good for staying and for investment? :)
Hi MrFat, worth to stay if you are working within the vicinity like Malim, Cheng, Klebang, Tanjung Minyak, Tanjung Kling and even Alor Gajah and Batu Berendam or perhaps MITC. It's very nearby to the Tesco and Cheng's commercial hub.
25 years ago, anybody who stays in Malim - it was FAR. But now is not.
15 years ago, Cheng was considered far but now the distance is bearable.
As of today, people who yearn for freehold landed property are looking at Paya Rumput already.
In future, you will see more dwellers further up at Rembia and Lendu.
You can buy the Paya Rumput house now but do not expect to make a quick buck so soon. There are many more housing projects coming up so people would have more choices. Long term investment, yes recommended. If for mid term prospect, pray that Malacca could provide more and better job opportunities for Malaccans to stay on and influx of job-seekers from other states.
But since I stay in Bandar Hilir near Melaka Raya, I would deem Paya Rumput as still quite far from the town.
MrFat January 8th, 2012, 10:37 AM Hi Calaris, thank you for your opinion.
Wonder if there is any flyover gonna be built up along the AMJ highway, precisely around the Cheng Baru area. It would effectively relieve the heavy traffic congestion among that area (too many traffic lights) and thus shorten the time taken to Malacca Town.
Have tried to search for the future development plans around Paya Rumput and along AMJ Highway in Malacca State Government website but failed. Sigh...
teckkang January 8th, 2012, 11:59 AM paya rumput will soon become 'puchong' of melaka
daeng_jal January 8th, 2012, 12:11 PM flyover would be build, the ist phase will consist of 5 flyover along amj from town to alor gajah..
but still have to wait on the fed for funding
MrFat January 8th, 2012, 03:01 PM Thank you for all information provided.
Haha, teckkang, why Puchong of Melaka?
Actually I am Selangorian, but have planned to settle down in Malacca. Such a nice town for me.

calaris January 9th, 2012, 02:41 AM Malacca among 45 ‘must-visit’ places
KUALA LUMPUR: Malacca has been listed by influential The New York Times as one of the 45 places to visit this year.
“With its lantern-lighted canals and silent, narrow streets lined with decades-old ornate temples and shophouses, few places in South-East Asia conjure romantic images of the past as effectively as Malacca,” it said in a write-up which became its second most-read story of the day.
Under the heading “The 45 Places to Go in 2012”, it said that Malacca, as a Unesco World Heritage site, had been captivating “record numbers of tourists lured by its unusual architecture and cuisine, which reflect centuries of foreign influences”.
“When you’re not exploring places like the 17th-century former Dutch town hall or Jonker Street’s antique shops, gorge on Malacca’s outstanding local specialties, like creamy, piquant nyonya laksa at the family-run Donald & Lily’s.”
Other Asian places which it recommended were Myanmar, Tokyo, Lhasa (Tibet), Halong Bay (Vietnam), Moganshan (China), Kerala (India), Koh Rong (Cambodia) and South Korea.

A World Heritage site ramps up its tourism options.
With its lantern-lighted canals and silent, narrow streets lined with decades-old ornate temples and shop houses, few places in Southeast Asia conjure romantic images of the past as effectively as Malacca, Malaysia’s oldest city. A former Portuguese, Dutch and British colony, this Unesco World Heritage site is now attracting record numbers of tourists lured by its unusual architecture and cuisine, which reflect centuries of foreign influences.
More than seven million visitors are expected in 2011, so the town, about 90 miles southeast of the capital, Kuala Lumpur, is welcoming new hotels like the Casa del Rio, a Portuguese-inspired luxury boutique property with 66 rooms; and Courtyard@Heeren, a 100-year-old shop house converted into a 14-room hotel. When you’re not exploring places like the 17th-century former Dutch town hall or Jonker Street’s antiques shops, gorge on Malacca’s outstanding local specialties, like creamy, piquant nyonya laksa at the family-run Donald & Lily’s. Reason is, most of the new housing developments of the state currently are centred around this area, with its existing industrial area, making it a fast booming satellite town of the city, especially population. in the very near future, AMJ will be clogged, like what is happening now to LDP, unless immediate measure to upgrade AMJ into expressway is carried out now :-)

Well which destination you plan to tour around Malacca?
We have the Panorama bus but I'm not so sure on the route it travels.
If within historical area, then trishaw 1 hour RM 40.

Haiyo kesian lah your grandma. :sad2: I understand your frustration on the traffic. But I sincerely believe you should pay your grandma as many visits as possible. Life is short my friend. Trust me it really lightens up any grandparents' eyes and most of all their heart and mind when they see their grandchildren even though they don't say it out loud. I witness this in my parents whenever they see my nieces.
Since you stay at Taman Rempah area and if you are heading to places like Mahkota Parade or Melaka Raya, try to detour your route by going through Munshi Abdullah instead of the usual Jalan Bendahara way which is where the infamous jam kills off your mood. Basically all the tourists just follow the signboards, that's why. :wallbash:
So try the alternative instead :naughty:...
Jalan Munshi Abdullah (Landmark is Bukit China on your left, BSN on your right)
=> at traffic light and roundabout keep to your left towards Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho (Landmark is still Bukit China on your left, Sup Lembu Tangkak on your right, Dek Huat Good Year Servitekar on your right)
=> at traffic light turn right to Jalan Tamby Abdullah (Landmark is Dim Sum Garden on your left, Pay Fong 2 Primary School on your left)
=> at the end of the road turn left to Jalan Parameswara (Landmark is Shell & on your left and right too, Esso on your left, Newton Foodcourt on your left)
=> after that turn right to Jalan Merdeka (Landmark is Bandar Hilir Police Station on your left, Garden City Condominium & Apartments on your left)
=> then Voila...you are at Melaka Raya d...:dance2::dance2::dance2:

Melaka Abolishes 5 Percent Heritage Charge, Replaces It With RM2 Charge
MELAKA, Jan 16 (Bernama) -- The state government has abolished the five percent heritage charge imposed on hotels, lodging houses and homestays and replaced it with a RM2 charge.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the charge was abolished because of objections by hotel, lodging house and homestay operators who felt it had a negative impact on their businesses.
"Discussions were held today with their representatives whereby they have agreed to the new charge," he told reporters after a dialogue on the heritage charge, here today.
Mohd Ali said based on the RM2 charge, guests would only have to add RM2 to their room rates.
He said the RM2 charge which would involve 12,000 hotel rooms, lodging houses and homestays throughout Melaka was expected to be enforced in April.
"The state expects to collect at least RM4 million each year from the charge, which would be utilised for developing the tourism sector.
"Operators must duly settle the charge monthly with the local authorities such as the Melaka Historical City Council, Hang Tuah Jaya municipal council, Alor Gajah municipal council and Jasin municipal council," he said.
He added that a heritage charge implementing committee would be formed to facilitate the process.

Prof Khoo: No record of the existance of Princess Hang Li Po; its a myth
By PRIYA KULASAGARAN
PETALING JAYA: There is no written record of the existence of Princess Hang Li Po, Hang Tuah or Hang Jebat and the stories that made into the history text books are just myths.
As such, history textbooks will be rewritten to reflect proven historical facts instead of myths and legends, said Historian Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim on Monday.
However, it is unclear if non-verifiable historical anecdotes will be included in the proposed new History syllabus scheduled for 2014.
Prof Khoo, who is part of the special committee appointed to analyse the History curriculum, said that hearsay should not be presented as historical fact in textbooks.
“The main agenda for the committee is to instil a sense of patriotism (among students).
“My personal stand is that myths and legends should not be included in the curriculum.
“However, if they do choose to include them (myths), it should be clearly indicated that these stories are not factual,” he said when contacted on Monday.
Prof Khoo added that the committee was still in the process of reviewing the current History syllabus.
“I cannot say at the moment whether there will be substantial changes or not, but there should be more emphasis on historical figures who made a real impact.
“When you ask people who was the first Malay to be absorbed into the civil service or when electricity first arrived in Malaysia, they don't know (the answer).
“The value of history is that it helps to explain the present, of where we are today,” he said.
In 2010, Deputy Prime Minister and Education Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced that History would be made a compulsory pass subject in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM).
The announcement sparked calls for a review of the History syllabus, with critics claiming that current textbooks for the subject were biased and littered with errors.
On May 3, 2011, the Education Ministry announced the appointment of a 10-man committee to review the current History syllabus with a nation-building agenda.

5% heritage tax on hotel guests shelved
http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2012/1/17/nation/20120117070631&sec=nation
MALACCA: The ruling to impose a 5% heritage charge on hotel guests has been shelved with immediate effect.
It will be replaced by a flat RM2 charge on every occupied room on a daily basis.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the decision to do away with the charge, which was supposed to take effect in September, was reached after a meeting with local hotel operators at Seri Negeri here yesterday.
Those who attended included representatives from the Malaysian Hotels Associations (MAH), Malaysian Hotel Owners Association (MAHO) and Malaysia Budget Hotels Association (MBHA).
“We will collect a flat heritage charge of RM2 instead and the funds will be used for the upkeep of heritage sites,” he said. It was reported in April last year that the state would impose the charge on hotel guests from Sept 1.
Mohd Ali was reported to have said that the tax was crucial for the state to carry out its beautification programmes as well as to maintain cleanliness, conservation and promotion of heritage sites.
About RM12mil was expected to be collected annually.
With Malacca having about 11,000 hotel rooms, he said the state would be able to collect about RM400,000 annually based on 60% occupancy rate.
Mohd Ali said a special committee would be formed with representatives from MAH, MAHO, MBHA and other related agencies to work out details on charging and utilising the RM2 fee.
“We expected the charge to be implemented next month. However, we were told that April would be more suitable as many hotel operators are still bound by sales contracts.
“We will let the committee study this before we decide on it during the exco meeting,” he said.
The president of the Malacca chapter of MAH Tan Hui Teng said the flat rate of RM2 was more reasonable.
He said the committee would study if eateries, entertainment outlets and supermarkets should also impose a similar charge

http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/info.asp?y=2012&dt=0117&pub=utusan_malaysia&sec=Selatan&pg=ws_02.htm&arc=hive
MELAKA 16 Jan. - Satu pameran awam bagi projek pembinaan dan pembangunan Trem Melaka diadakan di Melaka Mall di sini bermula hari ini sehingga 16 April depan.
Ketua Menteri Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohd.
- BERNAMA

A hook turn is a right turn from the left lane. If turning right at an intersection with traffic lights and a ‘Right Turn from Left Only’ hook turn sign, you must make a hook turn so as not to delay trams. To do a hook turn you must:
approach and enter the intersection from the left lane and indicate that you are turning right
move forward to the far left side of the intersection, keeping clear of the pedestrian crossings
remain stopped until the traffic lights on the road you are turning into have changed to green, then turn right.http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rdonlyres/8E49A9CE-A921-4CDF-91DC-3958E92300F9/0/HookTurn.jpg

Considering that if everything goes well with not much of relevant objections from the public, that means the whole project will officially kick-off this April itself and will be completed by next year April.
1. So I foresee that those roads with interlocking bricks will have to be replaced and re-tarred to make way for the tram tracks??
2. Besides that, the JKR or TM like to korek lubang sini sana, this means they cannot simply gali2 already?
3. Those areas with the tram tracks must really be 100% flood-free I believe...
4. Roads with middle divider that are planted with trees/flowers/plants and where the street lights are will have to be removed?

brain_failure January 30th, 2012, 10:25 AM BSG Property to replicate Precinct 10's success in Malacca
GEORGE TOWN: Boon Siew Group's property arm BSG Property, is looking at replicating its new commercial property development project Precinct 10 in Penang down south at its Melaka Straits City project.
BSG Property's business development manager Koay Wei Loong said the proposed street mall comprising food and beverage offerings in Malacca is likely to be ready by the end of 2013 and the company has earmarked some RM40 million.
"The positive response we have received from tenants of Precinct 10 and customers since we opened in Penang has been encouraging and we see no reason why the same model cannot be successful in Malacca," he told Business Times.
Precinct 10 is located at Tanjung Tokong on Penang island and consists of 2-storey shop offices and F and B outlets.
Since its soft opening last month, the project has seen the entry of Burger King, Chez Weng, Winter Warmers, Old Town White Coffee, Sushi Zento and HSBC Bank as tenants.
"We are looking at potentially bringing in one more financial institution, an Italian food-dominated wine house, and a Chinese restaurant chain here," added Koay.
"With the surface parking offered to customers at Precinct 10, our plan is to enable the medium to upscale eateries transform this location into a Penang version of Bangsar in Kuala Lumpur."
Precinct 10 sits on a 1.7ha area and boasts a net lettable area of 47,000 sq ft.
BSG Property invested RM16 million in the project.

The website states that this project is FREEHOLD...hmm better than Hatten City...
bandung February 9th, 2012, 10:11 PM so many development like hatten but i feel we must hold back a bit and let the city grow organically. unless there is demand for specific project that must urgently be done. we must now focus on growing demand for products sold here. and that can only be done by creating a market which does not derive incoe fro consumer prodcts but from other industries which are less brand focused but more iners terms of services for town people. having engineers. who work for service companies like tenaga nasional posmalaysia. gas and water utilities. improving their services. making it more reliable by improving infrastructure. making more accessable. more efficient. wider scope of services. finally having an industrial infrastructure to attract industries that can produce product and service for the local. national. regional international and world market.
When as a town we have more of these type of workers. and it should stimulate the demand for products and services in local economy growing the size of town. but at any point we must make sure the total disposoble income from our citizens is not exceeding or even challenging the value of goods and services in the local economy. in rough terms this is how to maintain. an equilibrium inn the economic market forces and demographics, which makes sure that the town wont become too overcrowded. or that the value of goods and services wont exceed by too large a factor the value of disposable income dispursed in the local economy creating destablizing effects in the economy

ELAKA 4 Mei - AEON Co. (M) Bhd.

Hey melaka banyak tanah ohh, i will put in in Klebang or along the river opposite the taman herba.
I wont be surprised if Melaka Premium Outlet is opened in Pulau Melaka. Having Arab City alone, Malaysian Eye, Wildlife Theater, cable Car will not be enough to attract human traffic there. If Arabs were to have vacations in Arab City, besides Middle Eastern gourmet, what they want is SHOPPING.
Other locations I can think of is at the Kota Laksamana reclaimed land or 1 Malaysia reclaimed land. Taman Herba mmm maybe not.
Just my 2 cents :)

Rumoured premium Parkson is supposed to be built at the soon-to-be reclaimed land behind Mahkota Hotel by Lions Group.
I think the state govt should ensure that the shopping haven is concentrated in one area or vicinity that is accessible easily by the tourists or fellow Malaccans. No doubt might cause traffic jam, but which part of Malacca town is not jam anyway during the peak period.
If you locate the MPO at Klebang, surely it's viable since they are now in the midst of constructing the Limbongan-Klebang highway. Then that place MIGHT be jammed too in future. But if I put myself in a tourist shoes, I would prefer everything within walking distance or nearby. Moreover with the tram implementation, it passes by Jalan Syed Abdul Aziz so it's very convenient since Mahkota Parade, Dataran Pahlawan, Hatten Square, future Parkson Premium Store and future Elements Mall are all within the hot triangle.
I really don't want to see the Melaka Premium Outlet to turn into another Melaka Mall where the location is not too strategic...albeit the old Jusco is still a crowd-puller where these two malls are just the opposite of each other.
I believe the entrance to the Pulau Melaka could be refurbished or revamped. Say goodbye to the fishing pond (though to the detriment of the angling enthusiasts) and then the potential of Pulau Melaka will be awoken from its overdue slumber.

Possible locations are
1. Dataran 1 Malaysia at Klebang
2. Reclaimed Kota Laksamana
3. Pulau Melaka
4. Krubong (possible as JPO is near the airport, Sepang also near airport, so Krubong near airport also...bring life to the airport?)

1. federal and tax incentive like in iskandar
2. federal to commit some billion for JV to jump start new economic activity like iskandar
3.KTM commuter lah, comeone lah it just 40km to town what, if not extend the SAS expressway by 10 more KM to btg mlk station and have regular busses at 15minit interval to it, as AMJ is jammed pack it would take more than an hour to get to tampin station
4. better PT in the form of busses 1st, then think bout lrt,mrt what ever rt afterward
5. costal highway to link it to west coast highway and senawang-klia highway to mlk, currently KLIA is still a hastle to go even thought it located as far from mlk as it is to KL.
6.build us a beach along the new reclaim land, only allowed scaper by the beach, then can look like gold coast already..
7.duty free zone in pulau mlk or pulau besar, .
8.restructuring of state gomen company, under one wing.we need a serius sovergn wealth fund, not some main main company, it should invest in strategic and high yield investment to strenghthen mlk economy.
9.mlk really need to tab into riau, riau is rich in raw material
10. be serius in developing maritime economy, pulau besar is actually deep enough to be malaysia 1st deep sea port,.and oil terminal,. can also look at oleo chemical and some other maritime ecom=nomic activities..
11. highway connecting alor gajah to tampin,as tampn is the start of central spine highway, and also to tangkak to get to new segamat highway as segamat is connected to kuantan by tun razak highway.
12.better urban planning, more park, and so on

12.better urban planning, more park, and so on
My most important wish for melaka this year is train connection, period

Actually that project at MITC and Best Western Premier are 2 different project. The one Nazrey posted is Empayar Muzaffar Hotel a 5 star hotel. Best Western Premier is situated near Melaka Wonderland.
Next to Best Western site will be Hospital Pakar Hang Tuah, a specialist hospital with a resort concept.

Hohoho, I'm fine with Hatten City being situated at the edge of the hot triangle...having the tallest building in Malacca (for the moment) to overlook either the town or sea from the 27th floor of the connecting bridge or perhaps from the 45th floor roof top scenic view.

Jalan Bunga Raya will be upgraded as a tourist attraction
MALACCA: The Bunga Raya commercial street here is set to experience a revival.
In its glorious days back in 70s, the area was a shopping haven for the local and tourists alike.
Before the emergence of departmental stores and supermarkets in the historic city, Bunga Raya was a popular commercial hub for the locals until the late 80s.
http://img51.imageshack.us/img51/7338/bungaraya1.jpg (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/51/bungaraya1.jpg/)
Street shopping: Jalan Bunga Raya in Malacca is a popular place to buy household goods and clothes.
With an aim to revive the area, the Malacca MCA had launched the ‘Bunga Raya Rehabilitation Project’ by establishing a special working committee to oversee the project.
The committee is headed by MCA’s city councillor, Ronald Gan Yong Hoe with State Education, Youth and Sports committee chairman Datuk Gan Tian Loo as its advisor.
Ronald said that the residents and business community along the street are giving their full support and cooperation to realise the vision of turning Bunga Raya as a shopping haven.
“We have briefed the history of Bunga Raya to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak during his recent visit.
“He had instructed the Malacca government to provide assistance to the committee and we will prepare a written report on our plans and submit it to the government officials as soon as possible,” he said.

Selling drinks: Wong Wee Jong making the cendol by the road side.
Ronald added that the committee would work hard to make Bunga Raya a popular tourist attraction.
The area includes its main road, Jalan Pasar Baru, Jalan Kee Ann, Jalan Jawa and Kg. Jawa. There are some 400 shops along the road with 30 unique outlets offering various services.
“The committee’s initial step is to give recognition to pre-war buildings along the street by putting up a sign board indicating their locations,” said Ronald.

What a great move. This is the missing link of the route from Renaissance hotel area to the old town. They should devise a strategy that would make this route legible, with coherent surface treatment, signage, and pedestrian friendly.

What do you mean by small development? We are talking about developments with 4-5 towers (20 to 40 storeys high). Of course we are proud, to see Melaka transform from a sleepy town to a city. Why do you have to compare to big cities like Penang & KL. Who would laugh at us? :ohno:

Dude, obviously KL, Penang & even JB is developing in a faster pace with lots of mega projects and of course we understand where we stand currently and we did not even compare ourselves to the cities stated above or even other international cities.
What we are proud of is the city was once a sleepy hollow and it has grown a lot over the years with lots of small projects been popping around the city though there are still a lot of room for improvements to be done.
So chill man, we don't make statements without a broad mind.

Malacca Festival City, the sequel to KL Festival City on the way
Business Times | Mar 9, 2012

FESTIVAL City Sdn Bhd, a Lion Group company which aims to be a major mall owner and operator in Malaysia, is finalising a deal for a second shopping complex.
http://www.btimes.com.my/articles/paksen/pix_topright
Festival City, a unit of Parkson Holdings Bhd, was set up to diversify into mall management to derive a new source of income.
The Lion group is no stranger to mall operations as it previously managed a chain of shopping complexes which carried the Parade brand. It also used to own and operate the Xtra hypermarket chain.
"We are finalising a second mall," senior general manager Gui Cheng Hock said in a recent interview. The mall, to be located in Malacca, is likely to be ready within three years.
The group has since 2005 voiced its plans to diversify into shopping complex management. The plans finally materialised in October 2011, when it opened its first mall called KL Festival City along Jalan Genting-Kelang.
The mall measures 1.1 million sq ft with a total net lettable area of 500,000 sq ft . The second mall, Gui said, will have a larger net lettable area than the first one.
He explained that at KL Festival City, it was not able to cater to retailers who had wanted more space.
As such, it hopes that by having a bigger mall it will not have to disappoint tenants.
Asked if it plans to diversify into shopping complex management in countries where it has already established Parkson stores, Gui said it wanted to establish itself first in Malaysia.
The idea is to have a successful mall that will also see its tenants flourish. Once this relationship is established, it will be easier for the mall operator to take its tenants with it when it expands.
"Once the tenants are confident with our mall, we can form a core group of tenants who will come with us where ever we expand," he said.
Gui sees potential for its shopping complexes in Kuala Lumpur, Johor Bahru and Penang.
Does it prefer to build its own mall or to will it buy existing malls?
"The direction is to look for land and to build from scratch...but we are open to all opportunities," Gui said.

hmm...could this be located at the rumoured ongoing land reclamation behind the Mahkota Hotel...? :okay:
I checked out their website - KL Festival City just now but their tenants list not so attractive...it's like a combination Mahkota Parade & Dataran Pahlawan.... but of course there are others that we do not have it here such as Subway, Sakae Sushi...
dengilo March 13th, 2012, 10:32 AM What malacca needs is something like Pavilion plus KLCC Suria combined with its indoor theme park like BTS or even Sunway Lagoon:) That will give me a good reason to save my hard earned money to go down there just to do my shopping:banana:Let it be the most amazing unforgettable shopping experience !So if its going to be 3rd class,B grade or even pariah malls don't bother.

That area is planned for cable car
Yes like what brain_failure mentioned, that area is planned for the cable car. Nevertheless, the current construction directly opposite of Mahkota Hotel is the water reservoir meant for the supply of the entire Pulau Melaka.
According to the abang contractor in yellow vest and safety helmet as taken in Picture 2 below, the piling works seen are indeed for the "Kolam untuk membekal air". However, he is not involved in that project as he is currently supervising the insertion and connection of the infrared cable as in laying the groundwork for Telekom to do the necessary.
In the meantime, previous post has shown where the TNB generator location would be at Pulau Melaka...so looks like 3 concurrent works are being done now - Water, Electricity and Telephone Connection.

^^ I concur!
Well sadly Malacca is quite known for certain mediocre "Products" :nono:
Also for the past 3 months, I noticed the river has not been as clean as before especially if compared to the year 2008....more and more floating rubbish could be seen visibly now. :ohno:
On the other hand, I agree with gordonv612, D_Y2k.2^ and teckkang that those development news in Malacca are ought to be celebrated in a humble way. Being glad or excited does not mean we are boasting or comparing Malacca with the likes of KL/PJ and Penang, but merely welcoming these positive events with the hope of enhancing the livelihood and lifestyle of the community.

New giant ferris wheel for Malacca :applause:
MALACCA: Malacca will get a new giant ferris wheel from China to replace the previous structure that was shut down and removed two years ago after a 10-month legal tussle.
Dubbed the Malaysia Eye, the new 88m-tall giant ferris wheel from China will be built at Pulau Melaka by a local company. It is expected to be operational by June 1.
The previous 62m-tall Eye On Malaysia ferris wheel, a joint venture between MST Ad Suria Sdn Bhd and state-owned Eye On Malaysia Sdn Bhd, ceased operations in 2010 after Belgian owner Fitraco MV took possession of the wheel on Jan 7 that year over an RM18mil debt by MST Ad Suria.
The wheel was removed by Fitraco in October the same year.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the new structure would be shipped to Malacca by the end of this month and piling work at the man-made island would start next week.
“We are hopeful that the ferris wheel would be operational by June 1, in time for the school holidays,” he told reporters after presenting the special government school aid to 255 pupils at SK Datuk Demang Hussin in Bukit Katil here on Wednesday evening.
Mohd Ali said the state government was not involved in the RM40mil project, to be carried out by KAJ Development Sdn Bhd.
“The giant structure will be inistalled on a 0.8ha site, which will also be acquired by the company,” he said.
Mohd Ali said that with a new and taller ferris wheel, Pulau Melaka would be developed further with attractions.
Asked about the quality of the China-made ferris wheel, he said: “Not all products from China are of low quality.
“This time we will make sure what we get is of good quality and safe for public use.”
The state government, in recent years, had been criticised for acquiring China-made coaches for its Malacca river monorail system, stretching 1.6km from Taman Rempah in Pengkalan Rama to Kampung Bunga Raya Pantai.
Hours after it was opened to the public on Oct 21, 2010, the monorail ground to a halt, stranding 20 passengers.
There has since been a series of test runs and rectifications, besides plans to extend the line.

patchay March 16th, 2012, 05:53 AM ^^ Guys... haha it amazes me when you guys are aiming for Pavilion-like Malls!! Awesome!
Even PJ areas haven't got any much high end malls yet. So I reckon in the next few years we shall see more of lifestyle entry-level malls across the entire nation including Malacca and Sabah to cater to mainly the young urban crowd.
Brands like ZARA, Rip Curl, Royal Sporting House, Coach, GAP, Uniqlo, Parkson, TANGS, Golden Screen Cinemas, Chatime, etc will probably invest more outside KL soon.
sixfulter March 16th, 2012, 08:39 AM Hi All,
Can someone tell me what the latest news of Pulau Melaka. I am one of the purchasers and i am currently overseas.
Thanks
yykhoo March 17th, 2012, 01:41 AM ye lor, seremban got ichiban sushi&domino somemore...
but as our mall is develop by IJM,like AEON seremban, so the design, even the color sheme is soo similar, when the shoplot is complete it will even be more similar to seremban 2... too bad WCT is just the contractor for our mall,if they are the developer,we may have something as cool as bkt tinggi..
with our 1.35Msq of GFA,we shoud be ranked no3.but as AEON already double it screen here from the original 5,let just hope it enough to beat AEON Pedra.
it was supposed to be 3 stories mall+ 2 stories parking space..they just cancel the upper parkingspace floor.:)
sorry~get anyone know when the coffee bean in AEON melaka start their business??
