Welcome mate:) Yeah it maybe Klebang too but I believe Kota Laksamana will be more viable as the location and proposal suites the River project and of course, another tourist attraction.

I also hope that the building with the balloons is a shopping mall

i know there will be a marina project in malacca which was announced by the state government. But I'm not sure whether this is d one mentioned coz I don alwiz put high expectation on government projects in terms of designs.
The one u posted shows the opposite, so I believe this marina project may not b the one that was announced.

If u guys look properly into the Parkson banner...below the word "parkson"..there is actually "Cold Storage" there but it is covered.

there is few possibility..

1) They r using old banner from somewhere...thus they covered the "cold storage" word as it is not applicable.

2) Cold Storage agreed to open there initially but pull out after the banner is completed.

3) or...maybe Cold storage agreed to open there but have not officially sign the agreement yet, thus it is temporary covered.

Sungai Melaka akan dikembalikan sebagai pusat perniagaan

BANDA HILIR, 2 Sept.

'Bas London' susur Melaka

Oleh Siti Nor Saadah Mdh Yusof

Pengangkutan dua tingkat dipandu pelahan bawa pelancong ke destinasi pilihan sekitar bandar raya

http://www.bharian.com.my/m/BHarian/BHimages/3sen7a.jpg

Ketua Menteri, Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam berkata,

Malaysia kini mempunyai 58 buah pusat boling.

"Minggu Holland" terus dikunjungi ramai

BANDA HILIR, 3 Sept.

Melaka Building Malaysia's Biggest Bowling Centre
September 03, 2007 21:30 PM

MELAKA, Sept 3 (Bernama) -- Melaka is building a RM15 million bowling centre with 52 lanes at the Melaka International Trade Centre in Ayer Keroh.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the Melaka International Bowling Centre would be the biggest bowling centre in Malaysia after Megalanes Bowling Centre in Penang which has 50 lanes.

The two-storey centre with a 10,401-square metre area was expected to be completed by July 31 next year, he told reporters after officiating the ground-breaking ceremony today.

Building the bowling centre was part of the state's preparations to host Malaysia Games 2010, he said.

saw this kota gemilang project at the chinese newspaper yesterday.
The design of the shop lots look very nice and cool ...

Fashion city was only part of MITC master plan.I wonder when the other phrase such as business city, ITC city and Food city will start.

Malacca plans to build 52-lane bowling centre
Thursday September 6, 2007
By STEVEN DANIEL
TheStar

MALACCA: The state is going to build a 52-lane bowling centre, beating the current record holder Megalanes Bo-wling Centre in Penang, which has 50 lanes.

A two-storey building named Melaka International Bowling Cen-tre will be built on a one-hectare plot of land and will cost RM15mil.

The project, which began on Aug 3, is expected to be completed on July 31.

In officiating at the groundbreaking ceremony at the Malacca Inter-national Trade Centre, Ayer Keroh, on Sunday, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam announced that bowling would become the number one sport in the state and expressed his hope that Malacca’s team would win the gold when it hosts the 10th Sukma Games in 2010.

“We (the state) could give birth to future national bowling champions such as Shalin Zulkifli, Sharon Koh, Wendy Chai and last year’s World Teen Champion Zandra Aziela if comprehensive programmes are implemented once the complex is built,” said Mohd Ali.

He said it was not impossible for the sport to progress in the state and country as they had good coaches and with enough effort, the bowlers would be able to represent the country in many competitions internationally.

At present, there are 58 bowling centres in the country of which 16 are in Selangor, eight in Kuala Lumpur, and the two in Malacca are at the Mahkota Parade and Senyum shopping centres.

Mohd Ali hoped the management would prepare a calendar of events for 2008 and 2009 to ensure the sport remained popular and attracted many people.

He added that local and international level tournaments must be held during that period in the centre.

RM44.902 juta peruntukan bagi jalan masuk ke UTeM

AYER KEROH, 15 Sept.

the total space or no. of properties is for the whole state. In Malacca case, it is referring to Malacca city itself since malacca doesnt hv any major town.

Talking about the low occupancy rate, I think plaza hang tuah, plaza melaka raya are the reason for the low occupancy rate. Newly open Melaka Mall n oso KMA Mall may contribute to the low occupancy coz many shops stil not open yet.

the success of a shopping complex depend much on it's location n oso the size. JJ, MP n oso DP registered higher occupancy due to their strategic location n oso size, whereas Plaza Hang Tuah fail after old bus station shifted and Plaza Melaka Raya is not big enuf to attract the malaccan :ohno:.

i am wondering whether a320 could land here as the runway is only 1800m. any pilots here that can advise?

1800 is insufficient length for airbus to take off unless they decide to take off with empty cabin and cargo compartment with minimum fuel to reach neighboring a320 capable airport.

A320 needs 2090 m to take off and that's MTOW. I think the are going to extend the current runway up to 2045 which means any a320 wanna take off from there must not have MTOW or they gonna overshot the runway and kill people.

Projects to link Limbongan to Ujong Pasir in Malacca
By A. LETCHUMANAN

MALACCA: Traffic congestion in the state will be a thing of the past after two road projects linking Limbongan to Ujong Pasir is completed, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said.
He said the first project, linking Limbongan to Kota Laksamana, would ease the heavy flow of traffic in Tengkera and Jalan Ong Kim Wee.
“The companies involved in reclaiming the sea between Limbongan and Kota Laksamana would be allowed to tender for the project,” he told reporters after chairing the state executive council meeting here recently.
He said there would be a four-lane road cutting along the beach and bypassing the narrow Tengkera road.
Mohd Ali said another section between Taman Melaka Raya and Ujong Pasir would allow vehicles to go south without entering the commercial area in Taman Melaka Raya.
He said the Federal Government had approved the construction of a 78-bed hospital in Alor Gajah costing RM60mil and the Jasin district police station costing RM48mil.
“The Public Works Department is handling the projects and work is expected to start by mid-November for the two projects,” he said.
Mohd Ali said a foreign company had expressed the intention to have a joint venture with the state to set up a facility to conduct research and development and undertake clinical examination of people affected by liver diseases.
He said tat Institute of Biotechnology of Malacca and Putra Hospital would also take a stake in the project. Mohd Ali said the company had been successful in its research on mice and would do research on humans in two months.

Malacca to build country's biggest planetarium
Thursday September 27, 2007
By A. LETCHUMANAN
TheStar

MALACCA: A RM20mil planetarium with a seating capacity of 210 would be constructed near the MITC complex in Ayer Keroh here, making it the biggest in the country.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the planetarium in Kuala Lumpur could only accommodate 170 people.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the planetarium here on Thursday, he said the dome would be 15m wide and would have a projection gallery, performance space, exhibition areas, an astronomy museum, restaurants and a kiosk.

"We have awarded the tender for the construction to Ambilan Sempurna Sdn Bhd and the planetarium is expected to completed before December 2008," he said.

This would be the second planetarium in the state after the Al-Khawarizmi, situated in Kampung Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara; the Al-Khawarizmi can accommodate 90 people.

Mohd Ali hoped that more astronomers as well as researchers would use the planetarium as their base to undertake their research work on space science and the planets.

He said the planetarium is expected to bring in tourists as well as people having dealings with the state government secretariat, which is nearby.

"Even those from out of town who come to handle matters with the state secretariat would drop in at the planetarium," he said.

He said various academic and entertainment activities would be held to attract schoolchildren, undergraduates, researchers and members of the public to the planetarium.

"There would also be films on space science and documentaries like Wonder of the Universe screened for the younger group as well as programmes on planets in the solar system, and techniques of taking pictures during an eclipse for the elder group," he said.

Mohd Ali said there would also be projection instruments for researchers to utilise for detailed studies on the movements in the solar system including the sun, moon, meteor, grid coordination, eclipse and change in the weather environment.

"We would encourage the private sector including telecommunication companies, mapping firms and information technology firms to play a role in providing the facilities in the planetarium," he said.

Speaking to reporters, Mohd Ali said the planetarium would be similar to the ones in Chicago and Boston in United States.

He said the state government expected an influx of 500,000 visitors in the first year of operation of the planetarium.

Projects to link Limbongan to Ujong Pasir in Malacca
Thursday September 27, 2007

Mohd Ali said the company had been successful in its research on mice and would do research on humans in two months.

how about the new generation of 737?

you can wiki about the MTOW of 737 ng but i dont think there's much difference between the two.

Honestly, i think melaka government is doing much better than penang government in their seriousness to promote the state. Roads can be build in no time, unlike in Penang where they have to undergo close public scrutiny and face the outcry of several tree hugger assoc. and strong NGO like CAP. There's so much different between melaka 5 years ago and Melaka now. I've lived in both states and i can testify that melaka growth rate (at least construction of new public facilities) is much much more faster than Penang.

Malacca to build RM20mil planetarium
Friday September 28, 2007
By A. LETCHUMANAN

MALACCA: A RM20mil planetarium with a seating capacity of 210 will be built near the MITC complex in Ayer Keroh, making it the biggest in the country.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said the National Planetarium in Kuala Lumpur could only accommodate 170 people.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the planetarium here yesterday, he said the 15m-wide dome would have a projection gallery, performance space, exhibition areas, an astronomy museum and restaurants.

“We have awarded the tender for the construction to Ambilan Sempurna Sdn Bhd and it is expected to be completed before December 2008,” he said.

This will be the second planetarium in the state after the Al-Khawarizmi, which can accommodate 90 people, in Kg Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara.

Mohd Ali hoped that more astronomers and researchers would use the planetarium as their base to undertake research.

“There would also be screening of films on space science and documentaries like Wonder of the Universe for the younger group as well as programmes on planets in the solar system, and techniques of taking pictures during an eclipse,” he said.

I just find it odd for Malacca to build another planetarium especially after learning that there is already one at Kg Balik Batu, Tanjung Bidara. Further, KL's planetarium is just a 1 and half hr bus ride away. Why the need for so many planetariums? Sure, there will initial interest when it opens, especially since M'sia is sending its first astronaut to space, but what happens after 1 yr, 5yrs, 10yrs? Unless the place is managed by a dynamic team of astronomy enthusiasts or there is a thriving research community or institution linked to the planetarium, I see it falling into disrepair and closing 5yrs down the road. The $20m spent could have been put to better use improving the state's infrastructure.

Haha..I've lived in both penang and melaka too. Agree that penang hasn't seen much public sector development compared to melaka, although penang's private sector development is much more vibrant than melaka's. If there's one piece of melaka infrastructure i wanna see improved, it is the coastal road from bandar melaka to klebang beach and beyond being widened to 4 lanes.

Mohd Ali yakin Melaka akan bertukar menjadi 'City State'

Hadir sama, Naib Pengerusi MCA Bahagian Tangga Batu,Ngow Duo Soon Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam; Yang diPertua Majlis Perbandaran Alor Gajah, Baharom Majid;Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri Rembia, Ab. Wahab Ab.

I think if they really open it in cheng, it won be a bad decision though as cheng is consider as one of the fastest developing town in melaka and the population there keep on increasing from time to time. so, I guess the people will need a large hypermarket as well to fulfill their household needs. :) :)

Malacca banks on a smaller Eye

http://www.nst.com.my/Friday/National/2058670/insidepix1
The Malacca Eye will have two added attractions, a trampoline bungy and a pirate ship.

KUALA LUMPUR: Malacca, which is eyeing the Eye on Malaysia ferris wheel for the state, has decided to install its own, albeit a smaller one.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam has confirmed approaching Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor for the Eye on Malaysia to be transferred to the state after its contract here expires on Dec 31.

"I asked the minister but he has not given me a definite answer. So, we decided to get our own," he told the New Straits Times.

Construction of the smaller version of the Eye on Malaysia is under way on the banks of the Malacca river.

Called the Malacca Eye, the 25m-high ferris wheel from Hong Kong is expected to be a far better attraction than the Eye on Malaysia at Titiwangsa as it will have two added attractions built next to it -- a trampoline bungy and a pirate ship.
Construction of the Malacca Eye is by Agibs Engineering & Construction Sdn Bhd.

The state government will manage the operations of the ferris wheel.

The state government invested some RM3.3 million for the three attractions, which would be fully operational by the end of the month.

Ali said the Malacca Eye would be a permanent feature in the state.

Its 16 gondolas can sit five people each.

Meanwhile, sources said the Eye on Malaysia was likely to stay put at its original location at Titiwangsa until next Aug 31.

They said it would be too expensive to find another site for the ferris wheel as too much investment had been pumped into it.

Furthermore, the area had already been converted into a tourist destination with several cafes and souvenir shops being built around the Eye.

The 60m wheel, which has 42 air-conditioned gondolas, was unveiled as an added attraction at the beginning of this year in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia Year 2007 tourism drive.

The massive tourism campaign has been extended to Aug 31 next year in conjunction with the nation's 50th Merdeka celebrations.

A spokesman for MST Ads Suria Sdn Bhd said that the future of the Eye would only be announced after the Hari Raya Adilfitri celebrations

Looks like it's goin to be a new Melaka Raya at the newly reclaimed land. But hopefully they won't build too many shophouses just like what'd been done to Melaka Raya. Proper planning is really important now. More parks and gardens are the most welcomed, and less urban sprawl. Make it like Putrajaya. ;)

Melaka International Regatta 2007 dijangka terima sambutan hangat

Rahaman Ab.

Investments Worth RM717 Mln In Melaka To Push Bumi Biz

MELAKA, Oct 24 (Bernama) -- Investments worth RM717.54 million have been pledged in memorandums of understanding (MoUs) signed between the Melaka government and several government-linked companies (GLCs), statutory bodies, private corporations and individuals.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam said today the MoUs were signed at the Konvensyen Melayu Melaka Maju (KMMM) 2010 (convention on the development of Melaka Malays) which ended yesterday.

"The highest investment of RM500 million is in a deal between the state government and Bumisetia Management Services (M) Sdn Bhd to build a five-star hotel and apartments in the Melaka International Trade Centre (MITC) vicinity," he added.

Another hotel is to be built at the Melaka River estuary for RM65 million under an MoU signed between the state government and Casa Del Rio (M) Sdn Bhd.

Mohd Ali told reporters after chairing the weekly State Executive Council meeting here that UDA Holdings signed a MoU with the Melaka Historic City Council (MBMB) to develop a plot along Jalan Tun Ali with an investment of RM120 million.

MBMB signed MoU with Bukit Wawasan Sdn Bhd to buy four shophouses at Bukit Baru for RM1.3 million.

Mohd Ali said these investments are part of the state government's efforts to promote Bumiputera equity participation in line with Melaka's vision to be a developed state by 2010.

"The state government has targeted 1,333 business premises to be owned by Bumiputeras in the three years leading up to 2010," he added.

He described this as an initiative to encourage Bumiputeras to go into business rather than continue to be wage earners.

This is not restricted to Bumiputeras in the state alone but also to those elsewhere in the country, he added.

'Jalan raya baik, ekonomi tumbuh pesat'

what a shame!! Eye On Malacca got off a bad start ..this is the consequence of opening it too soon...

MALACCA: The state's latest tourist attraction, the Malacca Eye, got off to a bad start when a power disruption left scores of people trapped in the gondolas on Friday night.

Some of the trapped victims in one of the gondolas of the Malacca Eye

The maiden ride turned out to be a terror ride for some 50 people who were trapped in the gondolas, 25 metres in the air.

Some were trapped for more than 20 minutes before technicians climbed up the ferris wheel and moved it manually to lower passengers from each compartment.

The Malacca Eye, located along the Sungai Malacca is the state' latest tourist attraction, built at a cost of RM3.3 million.

It also has a trampoline bungee and a pirate ship.

It was officially opened at the launch of the Malacca River Fest by the Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Khalil Yaakob.

Khalil, his consort Toh Puan Zurina Kasim, Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam and state executive council members were on a boat ride when the incident happened. They were supposed to be next on the ferris wheel.

The incident occurred at 10.35pm.

A large crowd had turned up, all wishing to be among the first to visit the tourist attraction.

A victim, Ibrahim Mohd, 55, said he was surprised when the lights went out and the wheel stopped moving.

"My daughter and two grandchildren were in the gondola with me. My eldest grandchild started crying as soon as the lights went out.

"I was shaken. This is a sign of poor safety features. I feel the ferris wheel is not ready for operations yet.

"Work in the area is not fully completed as there are no guard rails beside the river."

The last passengers were brought down safely at 11.05pm.

Melaka, NS tidak ditinggalkan

KUALA LUMPUR 9 Nov.
Kita terima apa keputusan mahkamah,’’ katanya.

Hopefully he keeps his promises. I wonder whether there wil be a Center Corridor Economic Region which wil cover NS and Malacca.

Ali harap koridor tengah dilancar akhir tahun

KUALA LUMPUR 9 Nov. - Ketua Menteri Melaka, Datuk Seri Mohd.
