This thread is dedicated to any buildings built in the Art Deco style in Lebanon.
I 'll start with a few examples.

Also all the buildings forming sa7et el nijmeh and all mandate architecture is art deco.

I see so it's built in the style of Art Deco, but it is not a true Art Deco structure. In order for it to be authentic it would have to be built in the 20's 30's era. Buildings built in the the late 40's and 50's are considered to be late period of art Deco.

hmmm... I don't know about that... why couldnt someone build in a specific style and still have it categorized under that specific genre of architecture.

In this forum dont we always demand more lebanese traditional architecture.... according to your definition, even if they did build in that style, it still is not.

I will tell you one thing, there is a soul to styles when they are born. Art and architecture is often the offspring of thought process, theory and ideas of a certain time. And resampling that architecture, especially in a post modern world, what we are doing is merely presenting a surface image of that style and not an authentic replication of the idea.

there is a difference between copying a style and actually creating one! It's almost impossible for us to build buildings and be true to the style. Alot of things have changed, our perceptions, influences, technology, culture, etc. A perfect example would be if I was to paint a painting in the impressionist style, it would be termed just as that. But it wouldn't be considered imprerssionist by any means! The art Deco era is long gone anything we do to bring back the style would be a mere interpretation or walt disnification of that style. Look at how tacky and cheap the semiramis looks in comparison to a true period art deco structure.

oh and one more thing all the new buildings that were built under the description of traditional Lebanese architecture are merely a modern interpretation. again we can only restore and replicate, but not create the past!

What is the Corm building used for nowadays?

I believe it is abandoned.

Dans les constructions art déco de Beyrouth il y a également le bâtiment du Virgin Megastore. Je ne connais pas la date exacte de sa construction. Toujours est-il qu'il a été complètement refait après la guerre. Quelques photographies :

The Corm building isn't abandoned. It was partially restored after war damage to keep it stucturally sound, and parts of it are used as offices.
