I read this in the SMH commercial property section this morning

A $150 million dollar residential scraper is to be built the site of Monterey Plaza, bounded by Victoria and Albert Avenues and Surf Parade. Apartments were recently released for sale.

The design of the tower is waved shaped and will feature two levels of parking, a level of retail, and 2 levels of commercial space with the apartments built above it.

The developer is Dr Stanley Ho and will be marketed via PRDNationwide

Lol, I was gonna give you shit for posting the same topic as mine, but I see you posted it only 4mins after me so obviously not intentional! The other one should be deleted and I'll post the rendering in here when I've scanned it. :)

that is quite a building. Not as nice as Barouque would have been (that popped into my head when i saw this.. due to abstract style)
it is definitly a nice landmark

Cheers finn, that's one tricky looking tower.
Good to see so much innovation on the coast.

The best part is that site really needed to be up-marketed as well. The centre of Broadbeach is really classing up.

yeah i thought it was close to Grand Mecure. it will be approx height of mecure hotel also so that area along with Air on BB will be awesome come 2006.
im struggling to keep up with updating my panorama!

heres a tease pic from PRDNationwide

checkout its description>>

The residential tower will be constructed on a prime site adjoining the Broadbeach Mall directly across the road from the Aria building and will feature spacious apartments with generous balconies.
Stunning architecture will make this building an icon on the Gold Coast.
An inspiring design with undulating lines of the balustrades create a play of light across the tower, energising it as one admires it from different angles .
We are certain there will be huge demand for apartments when they are formally released, so we are pleased to offer you the opportunity to secure your position before it is officially taken to the market.
This is your opportunity to get in on the ground floor of an historic development.

^^Is it just me, or is that aerial pic missing something? Like, ummmm, I dunno, a convention centre maybe??? ;) I think they need to send out the 'ol chopper for a few new updated pics! :okay:

MrTall

Sure is an interesting design. I can't believe how the GC just keeps pumping out these proposals, seemingly week after week. Go GC!!!!!!!!!! Any indications as to the construction timeframe?

Also, at the end of the article it says that they're about to start on the "comercial precinct" at Crystal Tower. Does this mean that Crystal Tower has started or what? Anybody know?

finn
June 21st, 2004, 12:45 AM
^^The reason it would mention the commercial section of Crystal Tower is that the article was located in the COmmercial Property section of the newspaper. That would be the same reason that the article gives detailed info on the commercial floorspace of Wave Tower, but little insight into the residential tower stats.

If the commercial section of Crystal Tower is starting soon, I presume that means the residential will be starting soon as well, because U don't think they would construct it in two separate phases.

The convention centre is still further to the right of the pic. The chopper would have to spin at least 90 degress to get a shot of it.

some more stats- 34 levels- (ive estimated 100m).
118 units-due to wave format , all are distinct from each other!
One of the bldgs features includes a rooftop pool INSTEAD of the normal penthouse. This idea is that owners access to the best part of the building! said-marketing manager Chris Liftin.
Construction is set to begin in September with completion set for 22 months.

It's a very distinctive design, and I love the ground level/podium - it will be great addition to the streetscape! And of course the tower itself is a nice change from typical designs and a decent height addition to the Broadbeach skyline! :)

MrTall
June 23rd, 2004, 02:08 PM
Nice, big render! I like it..even though it looks too Seidlerish for my liking. And it's definitely a new way of doing it - putting the communal pool at the top. It's certainly a selling point and I'm sure this one will have no trouble selling out, especially as it is at Broadbeach.

Fabian
June 23rd, 2004, 11:07 PM
It's a top class design which is very eyecatching and it will not go unnoticed on the Broadbeach skyline.

jacobsian

Smart design. It appears impossible to jump from a balcony to commit suicide.

Oriolus
June 24th, 2004, 08:05 AM
With those overlapping balconies there could be some issues with privacy - you can stand on your balcony and look down onto someone elses easier then straight up and down balconies.

And you could also spit on the people downstairs if you don't like them!! Not that I would though :)

Pity those renders dont show off the roof treatment very well, it looks interesting. I love this tower apart from one thing, if I was going to buy an apartment I would want the ballustrading to be glass to show off the views. Then again, I suppose this way gives privacy and highlights the shapes of the balconies.

MrTall
July 9th, 2004, 09:43 AM
^ GMAC, if you look closely you'll see that the ballustrades are actualy clear. The solid portion appears to be a sunshade that hangs down to the apartment below (ala Harry Seidler). All in all it's a very eye-catching design that will surely become a landmark.

Good to see there are no secrets here! :okay: Thanks for the mini-scoop. Doesn't Broadbeach have a height limit, though?
Broadbeach have a height limit of "40storeys", same as Mainbeach and Southport. now this doesnt actually say height in metres. So architects are finding cunning ways to "up" there towers. Engelen Moore have sat there Air on BB tower atop a podium and rises to 37 storeys but will actually have 43 in total!
40storeys is approx 120m, so it can eventually make 130m maybe 140m, 150m if spire or architectural feature is added!

CULWULLA
July 12th, 2004, 04:03 AM
Official Height- 111m!!! got plans from DBI Design today. its full height is 111m and main roof is 102m.
so its taller than i thought. it will be one of tallest in Broadbeach!
in 2005, Broadbeach will have 10 towers over 300ft/90m tall!!!

Broadbeach tall list-
Air on BB- 131m UC
Belle Maison-112m
The Wave-111m (about to start)
Carmel by the Sea-105m
Ultra-100m (about to start)
Beachhaven-96m
Manhattan-95m
Crystal Towers-95m (about to start)
Aria-92m
Broadbeach Tower-90m (new curved tower)

Using plans is cheating Cul! :) It's the lego building, no the corn cob! It's great to see some different colour in the skyline.

Given Wave is only 20 meters taller than Aria, I can't see it having a great impact on the skyline from this angle, whilst The Oricale will totally dominate!

Just a comment about Broadbeach though. It's definately one of my fav parts of GC, but if there is one problem I have with it, it is demonstrated in the pic above - not enough sunlight. The mall gets a bit of sun, but generally when I'm walking around Broadbeach, I always seem to be in shade. A good thing in summer I guess, but not in winter.

Yeah this is the one I would have brought into, it's got such a funky design and it was the cheapest of the new bunch (Oracle, Meriton's stuff etc) per apartment wasn't it? Top location as well, plus the pool on the top for residents gives you some penthouse livin without the penthouse price.

Retail is also set to be very good at ground level, so a good development all up, shame it's not taller cos its shape could be very iconic if taller.

Simply stunning, this building looks like a sculpture in real life. There is simply nothing else like it. It just ooozes style when you see it.

Honeslty, they should do another one, only in Surfers, 2-3 times taller and make it blue glass as well (though the white here looks great).

All in all only the Oracle could potentially top this tower in BB, and even then, Wave is the more innovative design.

The one everyone wants too see! I've reduced them in size at the cost of quality. Might upload the higher quality ones to flickr later on.

yes, the onwers of wave thought it would be a novel idea to allow residents acess to best part of building which is the roof!
It has a pool and is basically a rec deck. would be cool if you knew someone that lived in wave. summertime would be c00l.

Good work, always knew this one would be world class from the first render. You can tell when they nail a design.

Yes, great architecture.

Perhaps to be 'archived'.
