Hey,

First post on the forums, i've been browsing around and i've found people with cities in excess of 2 million!!! how on earth do you do that. The maximum i've got so far is 37 thousand with the biggest map?? Is there some kind of modification or something like that to the game??
Help appriciated

no. build and build, and build well.

lots of parks, mass transit, keep any polluting buildings isolated, if you're going to have them there at all.

use the rewards and landmarks to good advantage, by placement.

i've found the next three to be very helpful:

and keep your CS $ and $$ taxes low, so there's constant demand and growth, and keep your CO $$ pretty low too, you can get constant demand from that.

get your zones and blocks set up efficiently; parks on corners surrounded by buildings, and don't waste space with say, 4x4 blocks; make the blocks of zones bigger, like 8 wide and 10 long, and leave room for mass transit to go in later.

then fix traffic problems with one way streets, rail overpasses, etc.

build commercial and residential close to each other, or next to each other; it'll help cut down on commute time.

build your commercial on the borders with a residential city, or build residential on the border with an industrial or commercial city to get more people going; these areas can be far away from the main part of your city if you manage it right, and expand your city out to them once it gets big.

have good transit connections between cities.

keep your education high, and the other ratings in balance, too.

buy coal power from a polluted neighbor to save money; you can later have that neighbor buy from another neighbor and turn it into a more populated, better, wealthier neighbor of your main city.

and stay at it and keep building.

good luck.

Hey,

Thanks took your advice i've now got a city with 200000 people, however i do have one question, you mentioned about building one way streets, do you need rush hour for this or can you do it with just the original game??

Cheers

glad to see it's growing.

yes, Rush Hour adds a lot of great features to the game like the one-way streets, avenues, other forms of rail, ferries and also fixes a lot of bugs in the program; it's a worthy addition to the game.

Sounds good, I can't stand the graphical artifacts in Sim City 4.
