Go Hotels: Back to basics

The first branch of Go Hotels is located at the fifth and sixth floors of Robinsons Cybergate Plaza along EDSA in Mandaluyong City.

MANILA, Philippines - What can P400 buy these days? A new pair of shoes, maybe, or the latest paperback bestseller. There are a number of possibilities, but a night’s stay at a decent hotel may not be one of them — until now.

Imagine an air-conditioned room, with a 22-inch LCD television, and free wireless Internet access for only P388 a night. It’s a dream made a reality by Go Hotels.

Dubbed the first chain of value hotels in the Philippines, Go Hotels has a variable pricing scheme much like Cebu Pacific’s budget fares. With this system, booking early will result in a lower rate for a room, while walk-ins will be charged a higher fee.

Guests have four breakfast options: (clockwise, from top left) Go Fish (boneless bangus with rice and egg), Go Healthy (yogurt, cereals and fruits), Go Pinoy (beef tapa with rice and egg), and Go West (ham, egg and cheese with fries).

Early bookings can be charged as low as P388, while walk-ins can be charged as much as P1,888 for an overnight stay.

“What we have done is to give you everything that is important to a traveler and excluded everything that you hate or that you don’t really need — for example, the mini-bar that you don’t even touch anyway. We don’t provide you with extra extras that you have to pay for, but you don’t really need,” said Frederick Go, president of Robinsons Land Corp., at the grand launch of Go Hotels last Sept. 3.

Go Hotels has no frills. No mini-bar, no room service, and no bottles of shampoo. There is no telephone, but there is an intercom in every room.

What the hotel does provide is a one-use sachet of shampoo, a tiny one-use bar of soap, two bath towels, and a choice between chiropractic-contoured pillows and hypoallergenic fiber-filled pillows, said Liz Gregorio, general manager of Go Hotels.

She added that every yellow and green-themed room has either twin beds or one queen-sized bed. Rooms also have a desk, and both a rainshower and handheld showerhead. Chairs come with the desk in rooms with a queen-sized bed.

Each Go Hotels’ room is equipped with quality bed with choice of hypoallergenic fiber-filled pillows or chiropractic-contoured pillows and offers Wi-Fi and use of safety de-posit box.

But perhaps one of the most important considerations in staying in a hotel is the bathroom. Go Hotels’ toilets are top of the line, and the bathroom is spacious.

Another consideration is eating inside the rooms. Gregorio said the practice is discouraged partly to keep the rooms clean.

“Every floor, the 5th and the 6th, where the rooms are, has an eating area with seats and tables in the lobby,” she said, adding that the eating areas have a seating capacity of 30 to 50 people, and that they never have a problem because the guests don’t eat at the same time.

Guests aren’t complaining either. An American visiting the Philippines is staying at the hotel, and he said, “The staff is doing good. I have no problems with the hotel.”

Indeed, the staff members in their yellow and green-collared shirts were very attentive and helpful. The staff attire at the hotel is casual and breeds an atmosphere that makes the hotel employees seem very approachable.

“We are very confident and positive about this development that we hope to take this around the country,” said Frederick Go, adding that Robinsons Land Corp. is planning to open hotels in every province in the country to address the huge demand and lack of proper accommodation for travelers.

Pasig City Mayor Benjamin Abalos Jr., in his speech at the hotel launch, said Go Hotels is promoting local tourism by offering such cheap rates.

“People will flock to the provinces instead of going abroad,” he said, adding that in the wake of the tragedy at the Quirino Grandstand, “We must help our country.”

The first branch of Go Hotels is located at the fifth and sixth floors of the 17-story Robinsons Cybergate Plaza, beside Robinsons Mall Pioneer, along EDSA.

Robinsons Land Corp. is planning to open 30 more hotels in the next five years, starting with branches in Bacolod and Dumaguete in 2011, Palawan, Iloilo, Davao, Tacloban, and Cebu in 2012, and Ilocos Norte, Butuan, Zamboanga, General Santos, and Pangasinan in 2013.

im one of those people earnestly hoping na madayon jud na ang robinsons dra..it will be a big boost to the city, more investors will surely pour in..mga manila based business, food chains..hmmp ang gaisano pila na ka years sa butuan pero wala man kaau naka invite daghan business.dghan nuon nagsara.alangan they ask their tenants a huge sum for their rent.asus as if ok ang maintenance nila sa mall.if naa ka complain ang mga tao nila dili kabalo mag atubang unsaon..hay sorry guys nag rant nako diri.but sometimes their insensitivity sa tenants is too much..ngano dili nila sundogon ang management sa davao..see gmall in davao is keeping at par sa sm, and since hapit na pud ang abreeza, naga expand na pud sila..and i thought they are of the same family lang tsk tsk

I would agree sir, actually im here in butuan city and we have an ongoing project within sa mall (Digitel's "the sunshop"). Even the materials used by mall is substandard (concerning fire and structural safety), I pitty the other tenants na gibarat sila sa ila contractor and its mall entity. Walay strict complient sa safety (calling the attention of neopace cagayan), dili mi owner sa establishment na gibuhat but as my proffesion states ethical views sa safety.

OT: I like butuan so much, the local folks are so kind, attending and dili suplado, buotan mga drivers (public and private vehicles alike). Even the city engineer's office is easy to approach and to deal with. Come to think of it, id say its in the genes of local butuanons to be kind and easy to approach in general. I was stunned to experience the other day when I asked a local guy driving a motorcycle for directions, instead of pointing the way, he insisted id follow him to guide me. Kudos to you guys! Action speak louder than words! :D

Based sa articles from Philippine Star, Butuan is included for the Go Hotel. So im sure magsugod ang construction sa Hotel by 2011 or 12 kay 2013 man mag open based on the articles. But then mauna cguro pag open ang Rob mall bago ang hotel...

Talagsa ra ko maka suroy sa Gmall, need jud nila mag expand kay gubot sa sulod... ayha na na sila mag sugod og refurbish kung naay go signal na ang robinsons...

Naay seminar ang mga drivers diha sa city... murag gina push sa LGU nga dili lang driver kundi hasta pag tour sa mga taga lain lain lugar... gina seminar sila about the history of Butuan para kung naay mag ask kung unsang dapita then dili mag hesitate ang driver pag tubag with additional info. gaisano is really for the masa kaya mga facilities nila pang masa din hindi high end , pang promdi mall talaga , i went to cdo nagclose na rin ororama mgeacenter, di nakaya ang competition sa mga malls

whew..grabe nuh? good thing that our victoria plaza still survive inspite the mall wars happening here in davao. i hope that victoria plaza can taste a one hell of a expansion. since they are occupying large areas that are ready to be develop..once the abreeza and SM lanang wil start its operations, i cant imagine if victoria plaza will still be visible in the future. murag madayon na jud tong bahad sa uban nga magsara na ang VP..kaluy-an unta ilang kalag..aaaahhh-mmeennnnn...:nuts::lol:

In a phone patch interview of RMN News kang Mayor Jun Amante, the mayor said that RLC should have started the construction of RPB two months ago. The delay was caused by a legal battle of that property in the middle of the acquired land. According to one DTI personnel, the case should be over by now and we should be seeing the construction to commence anytime soon. The Mayor mentioned further that despite of the delay, RLC is keen on having a soft opening of RPB by December 2011:cheers:

Butuan to set up science high school

Butuan City (13 October) -- The local government unit in this city is "very keen" on putting up a science high school in the locality.

This was recently announced by Butuan City Vice Mayor Lawrence Lemuel "Law" Fortun, before a large audience of city schools division officials, educators, barangay officials, parents and students who attended the 15th Division Schools Press Conference, held at Obrero Elementary School recently.

Vice Mayor Fortun, who came with the city council's education committee chair Hon. Erwin Dano; has represented Butuan City Mayor Ferdinand M. Amante as the guest of honor and speaker on the said gathering, whom he said was attending to "some equally very important concerns that demands his attention" at his office.

Among the "good news" though, which he had announced before reading the mayor's message for the occasion, was the earnest planning of the local government which is underway to put up a branch of the Philippine Science High School here in the city.

He said that among the requirements of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) for the granting of such is a 5-hectare property donation for such purpose. He added that this is among the concerns being worked out by the city government for when this will be realized, qualified high school students here in the city or even in the region will need not go to Davao, Iligan or Manila in order to avail of such privileged studies.

He also said that the mayor may soon leave for Manila within the week, in which among his purpose of going there will be to lobby with the DOST Secretary for the realization of such plan of the city government.

Meanwhile, the vice-mayor also mentioned that two weeks ago, the mayor together with him and some city officials met with a team representative of a local investor who wanted to put up another mall in the city in order to finalize the details, and hopefully by November of this year, Fortun said, the group may hold the ground-breaking of their projected investment. The construction works may follow immediately and the project according to him is expected to be completed by November or December of 2011. The project he said may benefit a thousand workers which may also represent about a thousand families.

Another local investment in the offing, he said, is the 300-hectare banana plantation project in Brgy. Cabcabon, which may also employ hundreds of workers that can be translated into another hundreds of family beneficiaries.

The mayor, Fortun said is pre-occupied with inviting investors to pour in investments here in the city in order to generate jobs for the people. He mentioned that when the new administration assumed office in July this year, among the quandaries they had faced was the lack of employment. He cited that the even at the city hall at present, there are 6,000 applicants for the 700 vacated job orders. (The Butuan Star/PIA-Caraga)

I saw the title myself when i applied for the sunshop's building permit, provided that they are sister companies, the engineer at the zoning office was confident enough to show it to me. If legal matters is a question, let them whine. Naa na title e so this cant affect the development sa mall unless naa court restraining order for stop construction or development which is highly unlikely to happen kay mismo ang LGU mu support sa pag push thru ani na mall.

Sir, sa akong nahibaw-an, that property that's under litigation (Kajima) is owned by Engr.Serge Pascual. Mao nalang gyud na ang wala pa napalit sa RLC. I don't really know the whole story (I hope someone can shed more light on this one) but they say that this "under Litigation" issue has something to do between Engr.Pascual & the Bank nga nag imbargo anang lot sa Kajima.

Last I heared na settle na daw & that lot is now part of RLC's property.

Wala pa purchase order or na award if kinsa ang contractor sa structural, mechanical, electrical and architectural. So i doubt if nov 28 ang ground breaking. If in house ang contractor nila, possible na. I cant disclose any more as of now kay wala ko information. :D

@Third i, how true is it sir, that RLC has or will purchase a lot in gusa, cdoc? according to one employee of kia motors which their showroom/service center is situated on the said lot, mu balhin daw sila coz paliton daw sa RLC ang ila showroom and the adjacent lots which will total approx 4 has..

they have their own mall po. Robinsons Place Cagayan de Oro situated on the Limketkai business complex. and its the first Robinsons Place in mindanao. i think you are referring to the Robinsons department store which is separate to the Robinsons place CDO. Rob Dep. store is located inside the Limketkai mall.:)

Robinson’s Mall security guard loses shotgun to "Agaw Armas" gang

BUTUAN CITY, Nov. 29 (PNA) - Six suspected members of 'Agaw Armas' gang seized at gunpoint the issued shotgun and live ammunitions of a security guard assigned at the newly acquired land property of Robinson’s Property Corp. located at J.C. Aquino Avenue, Butuan City this city.

Butuan City Police Station 3 identified the security guard victim as Eric Castro Rollon, 30, of the Third Alert Security and Detective Services, Inc.

Castro told Butuan City Police Station 3 six armed men forcibly took away from him his issued Armscor Shotgun bearing serial number 1062619 with five live ammunitions late afternoon Saturday.

The land property was formerly owned by the rich and landed Calo political clan of Butuan City. The Calo’s sold the land property to the Gokongwei Group for P160 million.

Robinson’s plans to build a mall in the property with its ground-breaking ceremonies slated for this month. (PNA)

Yes! they have a very warm and accomodating people. Almost 2 months ko nag stay didto and wala ko masulti na dili maayo sa mga tao sa butuan. :)

nag usap kami ng isang RLC architect (si architect capistrano). So far wala syang ma disclose regarding ROB-butuan. Maybe next year na ma disclose ang comming projects kase conjested sila sa mga delays and other projects na 2010 ang sked pero di pa na accomplish... pa 2011 na kase. Mejo mainit ang atmosphere ng digitel, RLC, URC, CEB kase galit si JLG sa mga delays. So just wait lang sir romix, the day will come. I saw the title myself and sa RLC na ang pangalan. chilax lang po. :D

BTW: your mall will also have a GO HOTEL (another RLC brandname).

So confirmed na gyud!

This one is located along the Capitol-Bonbon Road. I really had a hard time getting a chance to take these pics coz there were like 10 guards manning this side of the property. All of them were behind the signage. Ako gyud sila gipa-igo, hehehe.

if you would notice on the 2nd pic, there's a nipa hut. it also has a guard there. there were tarps folded just outside the nipa hut. i think those were the signages of robinsons displayed summer of last year.

mas dako tan-awon ang property if you view it from the Capitol-Bonbon Road side.

then malaki talaga prospect ng ROB - BXU considering the fact 10 hectares ang property... It will definitely a ROB - Complex...

murag wala kay katong early or mid 90's, murag Robinson's na gyud ang owner sa lot.. And medyo na-tsimis jud to nga magpatukod na sila ug mall sa Gensan.. It took more than 10 years bag-o narealize ang Robinson's Place General Santos.

The last time I was in butuan (november last year) I saw around 8-12 Davao Light Power Company (DLPC) trucks in the city. Duno if butuan's power provider is a coop or a private firm? Maybe an assistance or joint investment, makes sense if why aboitiz bought the otis mall. Last I heard of the otis was its being negotiated by nccc but failed, then renegotiated. Perhaps aboitiz got the deal. :D

There is still no memo up for both zambo and bxu malls and hotels. Its still february so its still a long 2011, lets just hope the designers have presented the designs to the owner. Its not lance thats gona do the groundreakings, JLG does the RLC projects, lance is with CEB.

Thanks po for the info, Sir! :) I hope that the reported groundbreaking of Robinsons Zamboanga this April will happen this April. Workers on the site are currently putting up fences (Rib Type Roof) along the perimeter of the RLC lot here in Zamboanga City (you may visit the Zamboanga City Thread for the photos). :colgate:

i dont know if you've read the news paper today guys (Philippine Star - Businees section ) naa naka butang dad2 about sa ila i put na malls this year and their GO Hotels .. Ang sa Malls kay sa Pangasinan, Palawan, New Manila and Cebu .. Go Hotels that will be opening this year are Bacolod and Dumaguete. For 2012 will be Palawan, Iloilo, Cebu, and Tacloban while Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Zamboanga, Batanes and Gensan in 2013.

Thats been news since late 2009. Its been repeated over and over, expecially sa hotel. well they already opened their flagship GO hotel at pionner-edsa. Maybe early this year will be much more clearer news. Press releases for construction dates would be a good thing..

hi romix. im not directly connected with rlc. i guess the the rlc execs can answer that for you. probably the population factor or the buying power of the area. to think zambo has a 700k population.

closing a deal for a lot doesnt mean na matukod dayun.. muagi pa na ug many feasibilities and data. Di bya lalim ang gasto sa pag tukod ana. Maybe mas una lang sila naka study sa market sa zambo.

Mao well just wait, time will come for butuan. :D

hi third i, so what is this CONTRACTOR'S OFFICE doing in the RLC property if nothing's gonna happen?

did they build this first before doing a feasibility study and wait until Butuan's population reach 700,000?
