OK i have narrowed my choice to these 2, both have good and bad points,Nikon better kit lens but can use all my old lenses on the pentax, pentax is weatherproofed but more cash. Not too bothered about the video but always usefull to have.
Canon 550D looks like a new contender but i am put off Canon as i had a video cam from them and it fell to bits.
Any tips??

I have the 550d,
The 550d isn't as rock solid as some of the other devices, but hence the price.
The 60d will be out soon, expect a couple of price drops as 3 cameras now have the 18mp sensor

I'm getting a 7d to replace my 350d,, though the 350d is still a great camera 5 years on.

Good choice. The 7d is certainly the best cropped frame DSLR around at the moment.

Only issue is the 7D wieght, but they are rock solid.
Currently I have 4 cameras,
Casio ex-fh20
Canon - 350d x 2
Canon - 550d

I probably wont sell my 350d's as can still be useful for timelapses.
Can leave it places and not worry about the cost to replace.
P.S I was considering to get a 5d mrk2, but for the price, i don't think its worth it.

For what it's worth, I bought a D90 about a year and a half ago and haven't looked back since. It's a superb piece of kit. I haven't tried the K7, so I couldn't tell you how the two compare. All I know is that I don't think you can physically go wrong with the D90.
