View Full Version : Mandaluyong and San Juan Cities
pau_p1 June 21st, 2004, 05:43 PM I thought that Mandaluyong should also have a thread of its own... since it has towers which are not part of the Ortigas Center where Mandaluyong shares with Pasig....

Edmundtanso June 21st, 2004, 08:03 PM thanks for doing this thread. there are some tall buildings in this area. ganda siguro to have a unit facing the wakwak golf course (sp) =)
pau_p1 June 21st, 2004, 08:36 PM yeah... if I had the money... i would love to buy a unit there.... :D
Edmundtanso June 21st, 2004, 08:46 PM me too pau =)
MixedMike June 22nd, 2004, 06:06 AM is that building new (the 4th pic)? or im just slow... :runaway: haha
and i forgot how to post pics here.. :( :sleepy:
pau_p1 June 22nd, 2004, 02:09 PM nope... its the WackWack Condominium... I think... if i'm not mistaken.... its been there for at least 3 or 5 years
Lightspeed June 22nd, 2004, 06:01 PM That building in that 8th pic posted reminds me of the Flatiron Building in NYC.
pau_p1 June 22nd, 2004, 06:53 PM yeah.. the one used as the Daily Bugle in Spiderman....:D
Francis20 June 23rd, 2004, 11:29 AM is it the one at the Times Square?
ronnaveth June 23rd, 2004, 11:42 AM labelan nyo naman yung mga building
pau_p1 June 23rd, 2004, 02:35 PM is it the one at the Times Square?
nope... the Flatiron building....:D
SunKing June 23rd, 2004, 03:26 PM Yeah, that sixth picture reminds me of the Flatiron, anyway, has anyone been to that Starmall in the first picture? I know that's the old Manuela but I haven't been there ever. I have been to the Starmall in Las Piņas, though.
pau_p1 June 23rd, 2004, 03:47 PM I've been there once in a while since its just walking distance from where I stay in the weekdays.... it has better shops on the ground level... but the rest is still crappy... and filled with bargain stores
SunKing June 23rd, 2004, 04:01 PM The Las Piņas mall is a smorgasbord of tiangges as well, although the restaurants there are quite good. One can have dinner at Dencio's Bar and Grill and have a cup of coffee afterwards at Figaro.
Lightspeed June 23rd, 2004, 05:53 PM Yah. Starmall has a nice Rustan's Supermarket on the Ground Floor and a fairly good Robinsons Department Store.
The tiangges are on the second and third floors. I agree with pau_p1....they're a bit crappy. It's quite a world away from the glitz offered by the mall just across the street, Shangri-La Plaza.
Starmall even pales in comparison to the airy and suddenly upmarket feel of the newly-renovated EDSA Central.
pau_p1 June 23rd, 2004, 06:29 PM yeah.... the new EDSA Central looks nice...:D
Eriq June 24th, 2004, 10:04 AM http://www.emporis.com/en/wm/bu/?id=114793
That is the Flatiron Building, also known as Fuller Building designed by Burnham
mhe-ann June 24th, 2004, 02:44 PM I'm starting to like the building shown in the 6th pic. :D
Edmundtanso June 24th, 2004, 11:42 PM I'm starting to like the building shown in the 6th pic. :D
i like that building also mhe-ann, too bad that it's been sitting there for ages already :bash:
mhe-ann June 25th, 2004, 01:51 AM malay natin after 10 years, tapos na un? :) buhay pa kaya ako nun? :D
Francis20 June 25th, 2004, 02:04 PM that's what we call 'u/c forever'
pau_p1 June 25th, 2004, 02:35 PM hahahah... well.. it might face the same fate as Summit One... it took years before it was finished and opened... I remember back in grade school.. around 10 years ago that Summit One reached its height but didn't opened after 5 or more years after because there is no demand for commercial space on that area...
Francis20 June 25th, 2004, 03:54 PM is summit one same as Megaworld Bldg?
pau_p1 June 25th, 2004, 04:08 PM megaworld?... is that the same with the BSA Towers behind Megamall?
Francis20 June 25th, 2004, 05:05 PM HAHAHA...:D that question made my day Pau. opps, just kidding.
i am referring to the tower at Eastwood, that one with Megaworld signage. Is it also called Summit One?
ryanr July 2nd, 2004, 05:43 AM Sun Plaza is awesome...It looks so much like Flatiron Building. Where is it at? I've never seen it before.
pau_p1 July 2nd, 2004, 07:37 AM it is in Mandaluyong (obviously hehehe)... along Shaw Blvd, adjacent to the Wack Wack Condos and just across the Governor's place where Cardinal Sin lives.... it is the first building you'll see from EDSA... yeah... it looks great.. especially 'if' it gets finished.. heheheh
pau_p1 July 9th, 2004, 04:05 AM Globe Towers
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid127/pdfeeb82d0acb933441ff0ee13a33b2b7/f7ed8459.jpg
Lightspeed July 9th, 2004, 07:07 AM Ahh..the Globe Telecom Towers. With the completion of the Robinsons Gateway Mall just across the street, I think this would be a booming spot.
I just hope traffic won't get bad in that narrow strip that is Pioneer Street.
pau_p1 July 9th, 2004, 07:42 AM yeahh... I also hope that another high-rise to rise on the other corner..besides KFC... that building is so rugged already and abandoned
mysaong03 July 30th, 2004, 10:02 PM i seemed to like buildings w/ podium on the first several floors, like that & w/ the rcbc, parang balanse kase, it kinda gives margin bet. the bldg's walls & the road surface, but at d same time highlights the tallness & massiveness of the structure, diba... basta gusto ko ganon...
mhe-ann July 31st, 2004, 09:11 AM thanks for that pic pau!
Lightspeed August 2nd, 2004, 07:04 AM I seem to remember Fil-Estate having grand plans for the lots adjoining Globe Telecom Plaza. I wonder if there are new plans for it.

mhe-ann August 4th, 2004, 03:34 AM I like both pics. ang sipag mo talagang kumuha ng pictures pau_p1! thanks!
absent-minded August 4th, 2004, 04:37 AM great shots!! I love the first pic. ganda ng framing and angle and everything. the second one is good as well, although it is a tad too dim... I hope those pyramid-topped twins will be finished up soon. sayang talaga...
pau_p1 August 4th, 2004, 04:12 PM thanks guys... hehehe... yup.. I hope that twin (BSA) would open soon... it is structurally done but I'm not sure of the interior...
the second is quite dark coz it is going to rain then...:D
Francis20 August 4th, 2004, 05:38 PM its not yet really done structurally. i just wonder if that "skybridge" on one of the uppermost floors is really part of the structure. hehe...inside, its not yet really done. construction is supposed to be resumed Q4 of this year. That means Oct-Dec...somewhere in between. I think the SM-KS towers will also materialize. I have hunch about that. Only that the agent (of some other neighboring proj) doesnt want to confirm. hehehe...
pau_p1 August 4th, 2004, 07:22 PM i think that skybridge is not a skybridge... it seems not a permanent structure.. probably for easier transfer of workers....
yeah I hope the SM-KS towers would pursue...
renell October 7th, 2004, 09:33 AM bump
any new Mandaluyong pics? we have a couple of 200m scrapers there (Summit One and BSA Towers, which are 200m estimated and 197m respectively)
speaking of that, anyone who wants a copy of the heigh list that contact me through email.
thomasian January 29th, 2005, 02:45 AM http://www.geocities.com/pinoy_fan2000ph/Photo_012805_022x.jpg
New Color? The old one is better.
ThisFire January 29th, 2005, 03:09 AM WOW. Is that your own shot?
renell January 29th, 2005, 03:43 AM Think it is.
Damn that new colour is ridiculously dull. I like the colour of the old one, we don't see a lot of it. That's why I like Oriental Gardens, the colour+the glass. This ones its older cousin
thomasian January 29th, 2005, 03:51 AM WOW. Is that your own shot?
yup... went to Market! Market! yesterday and took that shot on our way home.
Edmundtanso January 29th, 2005, 04:50 AM hows is market market thomasian? do you photos?
thomasian January 29th, 2005, 05:12 AM uhmm... sorry I don't have any photos of Market! Market!
I like the Fiesta Market part of Market!2x they have these restaurants that grill fresh seafoods... yummmmy.
The mall part somewhat dissapointed me because it was smaller than I thought and there's nothing really special about it.
renell January 29th, 2005, 05:36 AM How is it compared with The Podium and Power Plant? Being in such a prestigious location such as BGC I'm thinking it would be classy and has a lot of upper-class boutiques and restaurants. But doesn't it have a wet market too?
mysaong03 January 29th, 2005, 06:19 AM market2x isnt a high-end mall...when we speak in general, the mall is catered more to the middle to lower class clientele :)
ThisFire January 29th, 2005, 07:22 AM Speaking of pictures, can somebody please go down to the Bay and take pictures of the Mall of Asia site and post them here! Thanks! :)
ryanr January 29th, 2005, 07:59 AM ^I think the new color is alright...:)
absent-minded February 1st, 2005, 03:58 AM what building is that...? hehe... I don't remember seeing it before. or maybe it's just the new colors... haha
ryanr February 1st, 2005, 04:12 AM It's Globe Telecom's HQ.
thomasian February 1st, 2005, 05:24 AM Pioneer Highlands A.K.A. Globe Telecom Plaza
pau_p1 February 1st, 2005, 05:57 AM I think white is not yet the new color... parang.. first coat lang sya....
thomasian February 1st, 2005, 06:19 AM So any idea what the final color wil be?

Edmundtanso February 3rd, 2005, 03:52 AM nice photos, so wer will st francis be?
jcb February 3rd, 2005, 03:54 AM wow,ang ganda
pau_p1 February 3rd, 2005, 04:18 AM since I don't know what ST. FRANCIS would look like... the red box will show where it will rise... right beside Citiland
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v162/pau_p1/shawblvd2.jpg
ryanr February 3rd, 2005, 04:23 AM wow...cool pics, esp the one from Summit 1.
hehehe, thanks pau.:) But of course it will be taller than the red box u made.
renell February 3rd, 2005, 06:56 AM yeap much taller, hopefully edging over One San Miguel Avenue. At least for 60 floors it should. Great pics edgy
cropher February 3rd, 2005, 09:13 AM That unfinish huge structure at the approach of the Shaw flyover going east is the Manuela's Pacific mall ? whatever happened here ? It looks bigger than their mall down there at EDSA , maybe they should finished this one and make it more high-end and beautiful since its farther to the cluster of malls in Ortigas. And then demolish their seemingly randown mall in EDSA which for me is ideal for a cluster of either high-rise office or residentials because of its location and size and they could connect the mall thru the cluster via underpass . But it seems the problem there is financial matter.
thomasian February 3rd, 2005, 10:51 AM yup, way taller than it.
pau_p1 February 4th, 2005, 02:14 AM well.. yeah that was the Manuela Annex Mall... which was unfinished when the owner got bankrupted or something... now since this mall was left unfinished with a new management where Manuela is now StarMall.. and that becomes StarMall Annex.... currently they have made use of the structure as a parking area and a sports complex...
this now houses basketball/volleyball and badminton courts, a billiards area, a mini coffee shop, and at the 3rd level Gotcha! is the tenant. Gotcha! offers paintball challenges or war games, the first Gotcha! is on the slopes of Antipolo.....
so eventhough its unfinished, this building generates income from these sports facilities..
Edmundtanso February 4th, 2005, 05:08 AM thanks pau! wow, slowly shaw blvd is getting a few high rise buildings
pau_p1 February 7th, 2005, 03:35 AM Mandaluyong Condos.. the one with the crane is Lancaster Suites

ronnaveth February 7th, 2005, 07:54 AM pau could you put labels on the first pic
pau_p1 February 7th, 2005, 08:58 AM here po yung with labels to the buildings... also the u/c in the right side of the 3rd picture above is Lee Gardens
in this picture, Lee Gardens is partially seen behind the Lancaster Suites, the u/c building. StarMall Courts (formerly Manuela 3 Annex) is the big structure in the middle.. I don't know the exact name of the shorter Wack Wack condos
http://www.imagestation.com/picture/sraid157/p7cc5294e152424fb18e007f3d7251730/f535fd66.jpg
thomasian February 7th, 2005, 10:01 AM How come the taller building you labeled as "Wack Wack Condos" has a "In God we Trust" sign on top of it? Is it a cityland project?
pau_p1 February 7th, 2005, 10:26 AM AHH.. I guess... actuallly I named that two as such because I don't know what's their names...
well it must be a Citiland...
cropher February 7th, 2005, 11:03 AM Bakit puro Wack-wack ang names ? can't they think of better name ..its okay if it sounds good but wack wack does not sound good and then having it as the name of a series of different condos?
the edge February 7th, 2005, 11:05 AM ^ it's a citiland. affirmative. have you notice, they have good positioning in the major cbds
ryanr February 7th, 2005, 12:59 PM @ thomasian - yes it is a cityland.
Woah...nice pics paul. There are many buildings in Mandaluyong (non-Ortigas) already...
KulasKusgan February 7th, 2005, 01:17 PM ganda. nice! marami rin pala talls. sana roads dito pinas much wider pa.
bustero February 7th, 2005, 04:32 PM The building besides 8 wack wack is definitely a cityland. The building is beside it is very significant, it's the first high rise (for it's time) condo in the Philippines. It's name is WackWack Condominiums built the same time as Wack Wack Village.
The name Wackwack may not sound pleasant to some. Originally named after a bird or a sound of a bird, William Shaw (yes Shaw Blvd) named if after this when he built his golf course open to Filipinos (as opposed to Manila Golf which back then was not). Wack Wack while not neccesarily sounding pleasant evokes a very moneyed set, as golf is a gentlemans game, the village is similarly populated by old money, Lopez, Ortigas, Roces, Cacho etc. Hence many people want to be associated with the area and name.
pau_p1 February 15th, 2005, 01:37 AM since most of these are part of Mandaluyong and not Ortigas per se... I'll put this pictures here.....

mhe-ann February 15th, 2005, 12:41 PM ang galing!!!
thomasian February 15th, 2005, 01:34 PM Nice... white is not bad at all for Pioneer Highlands (A.K.A. Globe Telecom Plaza).
Although i'm hoping that it's just a primary coat and not the final color.
I wonder what color best suits it.
ryanr February 15th, 2005, 01:39 PM Great pix, paul...the quality of your pics are really good now, better than before. Did you get a new camera?:D
pau_p1 February 16th, 2005, 01:50 AM yup.. that white color on Globe seems to be just a primer... the way it was painted is a bit light and not balanced... a closer look on it will make you see the faint orange color beneath the white primer...
nope.. I still use the same camera... let's just say that I'm getting to know more of how my camera works.. :D hehehe
thomasian February 28th, 2005, 12:20 PM California Garden Square - 02.28.05
http://www.geocities.com/a_ofngol/Photo_022805_006x.jpg
renell February 28th, 2005, 12:29 PM Right so this repainting scheme of Pioneer Highlands is basically a new coat of paint of the old tint?
They (Cali Garden Sq) really look very out-of-place. In the middle of the urban jungle. Right smack in the middle of Metro Manila.
Though if you want to be positive, they do a good job seperating themselves.
pau_p1 March 1st, 2005, 01:53 AM well... I think they are situated in a very good location..... eventhough most of its surroundings are a bit of lower density residentials... it is near to the marketplace (Producers Market and EDSA Central Market), to the hospital (VRPMC or the Polymedic Hospital and Mandaluyong General Hospital) and dental clinics, to the City Hall, drugstore (Mercury Drug), convenient stores (MiniStop), hardwares, to tiangges, to Jeepney terminals, to MRT stations (Shaw and Boni), to malls (Starmall, EDSA Central, Robinsons Pioneer, Shangri-La, and SM Megamall)...
well I know this because... California Gardens is quite near to where I stay in Mandaluyong..:D
Aragon March 1st, 2005, 03:59 AM They (Cali Garden Sq) really look very out-of-place. In the middle of the urban jungle. Right smack in the middle of Metro Manila.
that makes it an urban oasis

I saw those buildings while driving around just couldnt remember where. :) Do those buildings sort of have a retail section on the bottom floors or am I thinking of a different structure. I like the paint scheme of the buildings.
Jon
ThisFire March 1st, 2005, 05:41 AM thanks for the picture!
thomasian March 1st, 2005, 05:57 AM They do have a stree-level retail section.

shopping buzz is alive at California Garden
Square.
ThisFire March 1st, 2005, 06:05 AM I've noticed in the past years, that the Philippines are coming up with many projects and developments like this, and it's great, especially if they ALWAYS blend in filipiniana elements to it because each country is their own, so keep it that way. But as I was saying, these developments also work well in the Philippines because of the natural beauty of the surroundings and the tropicalness.
pau_p1 March 1st, 2005, 06:14 AM yeah there are retail establishment at its front facing the Libertad St.
renell March 1st, 2005, 07:38 AM ah more of these retail+living establishments, which really is good if you think about it. While thought it might be too much, people won't have to use fuel, use public roads, etc. trying to buy or eat whatever they want
And things like these could be perfect models for future low-cost settlements for our pinoys less fortunate.
bagel March 1st, 2005, 07:41 AM I like the retail establishments. I've always maintained that more streetlevel commercial establishments in new developments make for a lively street life. I just don't like the garish commieblockness of the structures on top of them.
Edmundtanso March 1st, 2005, 09:23 PM i like the street level retail, hope to see this more on new developments around mm
renell March 2nd, 2005, 05:38 AM It's been the newest revelation in MM... open-air retail establishments, Eastwood has it, now this.. I'm sure there are others too which right now I can't remember. Oh yes Avenida.
bagel March 2nd, 2005, 06:00 AM The Promenade in Greenhills too.
thomasian March 2nd, 2005, 07:28 AM And Harbour View Square in CCP.
renell March 2nd, 2005, 08:53 AM whoah that's Harbour View Square (I find these British spellings ironic, everyday Metro Manila continues to be Americanised on and on) is this quite recent? :D
kiretoce March 2nd, 2005, 03:43 PM Just my opinion....British spellings tend to lend to a sense of class and dignity, hence the insertion of the letter U in words like Harbour, Colour, Flavour or Neighbourhood. Even the use of Old English spellings, like Shoppes, enhances it's appeal. :D
SKYLINEPIGEON March 2nd, 2005, 04:30 PM since most of these are part of Mandaluyong and not Ortigas per se... I'll put this pictures here.....

bagel March 2nd, 2005, 05:00 PM Oh that picture should go to the boon or bane thread. Then people can really see how baneful they are.
renell March 3rd, 2005, 05:30 AM Indeed it's been there ever since my living memory. And it also seems to be getting bigger and bigger :sly:
Just my opinion....British spellings tend to lend to a sense of class and dignity, hence the insertion of the letter U in words like Harbour, Colour, Flavour or Neighbourhood. Even the use of Old English spellings, like Shoppes, enhances it's appeal.
Perhaps so.
SKYLINEPIGEON March 3rd, 2005, 07:30 AM those are the original english words until webster americanized them and droup the u

wow.. I haven't noticed that Lee Gardens are having glasses installed on them... thanks for the picture.. :D
thomasian March 3rd, 2005, 10:17 AM Lee Garden's glasses on the podium level looks like that of Gateway's.
jbkayaker12 March 3rd, 2005, 12:20 PM I like the retail establishments. I've always maintained that more streetlevel commercial establishments in new developments make for a lively street life. I just don't like the garish commieblockness of the structures on top of them.
I like the structures since they are not all of the same height, different levels and different paint scheme.

I don't know how many of those structures they have in Tiendesitas. But I'll try to take more pictures.
The ones that I posted here before doesn't have the cogon roofs in them yet. For sure they will look more like bahay kubo when the cogon roof is installed.
BTW, cutting classes? haha, nope. :colgate:
@ Renell - Tiendesitas is the "Tiangge" component of the Frontera Verde development by Ortigas and Co. Ltd. along C-5 corner Ortigas ave.

Yes and don't forget about the Portuguese. Even before the fifth expedition of Legazpi arrived (expeditions:Magellan, Villalobos, Laoysa and Saavedra),the Portuguese stationed in the Mollucas would constantly visit Mindanao for food and christianized the natives.
The first European drafted Philippine Map was created by the Portuguese upon the discovery of the Mollucas in 1511. It is with this knowledge that Magellan, a Portuguese, decided to make that side trip to the Philippines prior to the planned destination in Mollucas (Indonesia). The rest is history.
Why was the Portuguese omitted in the Philippines Colonial history. Of course, it was a Spanish chronicle so they were the star of the show.
For thorough understanding of the Philippine Colonial history, don't rely on the current text books available in the Philippines.A huge amount of information was omitted and only the major events towards the independence were emphasized.

absent-minded March 7th, 2005, 07:41 AM wow... that Tiendesitas project looks pretty interesting. is it somewhere near the Meralco building? Ortigas Ave. is the one that fronts Meralco, right? and C5 is somewhere down the road (coming from EDSA)....?
the picture reminds me of the Forbidden City... haha!! how big is it planned to be exactly?
pau_p1 March 7th, 2005, 07:47 AM its at the corner of C5 and Ortigas Ave...

pau_p1 March 7th, 2005, 08:06 AM ohhhh.. its a flea market.... well all I can say is its really gonna be a big market.....
its exactly at the corner of those 2 avenues... it's at the southbound side of C5... it stretches from the corner of C5 and Ortigas to almost the corner of C5 and J. Vargas... where a Shell station and Jollibee is...

I think it would be mixed-use but it seems like they're developing the commercial part first, namely, Tiendesitas, SM Hypermarket, Caltex? Megastation w/ several dining establishments (just like those in SLEX and NLEX), etc.

The first building (18 floors) is already completed and some units are already occupied. Two more towers are u/c. If I'm not mistaken, both of them will be 32 floors each.
thomasian March 16th, 2005, 03:32 AM 32 stories are not that bad.

Lili April 3rd, 2005, 06:19 AM Yeah, there are too many billboards in Metro Manila. They lack aesthetics. Just shabby-looking. It would have been better if these ads have neon lights that add character and beauty to the place and the skyline.

Are they doing anything about the smog in Metro Manila? It's very unhealthy! Such a bane for "lifestyle living".
highlander April 4th, 2005, 12:41 AM We were told that business permits of factories in Mandaluyong are not being renewed by the Local Government. They have been asked to relocate so that Mandaluyong could be transformed to another Commercial Business District (CBD) especially that area bounded by EDSA, Shaw and Pioneer.

So it would be like a natural extension of Ortigas CBD.
Lili April 4th, 2005, 04:32 PM billboards with neon lights?... nahh.... it's too 80's.... I like the billboards now much better...
I guess it's just a matter of taste. I have not been able to see the billboards there now but the last time I was in Manila (2002), I didn't find anything appealing with the huge billboards. So, in your face. They block the skyline and the view. There is something about the soft glow of neon lights... even if it's too retro.
Lili April 4th, 2005, 04:34 PM We were told that business permits of factories in Mandaluyong are not being renewed by the Local Government. I guess this is part of the Greenfield Development Projuect?
highlander April 4th, 2005, 06:26 PM I guess this is part of the Greenfield Development Projuect?
You're right, from Shaw side it is Greenfield doing the development. On the Pioneer and EDSA side, 6.8 hectares will be developed as Robinson's Cyberpark. I assume that the Robinson's Cybergate office building is just the start. And if the residential condo sales goes well for Robinsons, the Gateway Residences will have 4 towers. It would be nice to see this place converted into a CBD and become an extension of the Ortigas CBD as Thomasian was saying.
thomasian April 5th, 2005, 07:15 AM yup, it's Greenfield and Robinsons who have big parcels of land in that area, but isn't there a sizeable gap between the Robinsons and Greenfield developments?
Anyway, the Robinsons development in Mandaluyong would have a lot of skyscrapers in the future. The 4 Tower Gateway Residences, Gateway Garden Ridge, Gateway Garden Heights (not so sure if this is the same as GGR), Cybergate and Cybergate 2.
And there seems to be more space left there for other future scrapers.
Greenfield on the other hand has Soho Central to start the skyscraper revolution in that area.
pau_p1 April 5th, 2005, 07:29 AM wow... that area would definitely be good looking when done... but I hope in the process, the roads within the area would be replanned... and if possible have that FAR restrictions like BGC... or at least there should be open spaces....
thomasian April 5th, 2005, 08:09 AM Those will surely be done within the boundaries of Greenfield District and the Robinsons property.
What I'm worried about is the gap between the two dev'ts because no developer has control on it so anyone can build skyscrapers in there in whatever way they want and there would be no planning there. I hope the Mandaluyong city would set regulations within that area.
Lili April 5th, 2005, 04:48 PM ang g'leng g'leng naman ng assessment. are you an architect or an urban planner?

You know, I can see from the threads here that architecture and urban planning are your passion and interests so maybe you can integrate these into your coursework now. I think you can be a good urban planner someday and you can use your computer skills in this field. Most architectural and urban plans are now being made through computer graphics -- just like SIMS City. So maybe, if you still want to finish Computer Science, later on, you can do your Masters in Urban Planning as a working student. I know that they have a School in Urban Planning in UP.

That is nice. Speaking for my sisters and I, our future was planned for us by our parents. They decided a long time ago to have us migrate to the US. I see nothing wrong with that. They were only thinking of what they thought was best for us. Now that we reside overseas it doesnt mean that we entirely have forgotten our homeland. We do help out our relatives at times and also take time to go on vacation to the Philippines.
To others this may not be enough but that is not my problem anymore. I have been vacationing the last three times in the Philippines spending my hard earned money in my homeland. I could just as easily go to Europe and spend my vacation there but I chose to have my vacation in the Philippines for the simple fact that for every centavo I spent in the Philippines I know it is somehow helping someone.

That was well said, and what a lot of abroad immigrants or children of immigrants have to say. But in my case, it's Canada. My parents left a long time ago as well, during the early part of martial law days. But I earn my money and save up and when I go to visit the Philippines, I make sure to save for the trip and then spend A LOT of it there, not only in thinking of myself but I always have the Philippine economy in mind! And it's true, we could easily choose to go to some other countries for vacation (well it's a good thing too) but the Philippines is there for us and what a country it is to know that your roots are there! And it's a bonus that the ties don't have to be cut because our culture is great and we all have family that are in the Philippines who we see during our stays in the country.
thomasian May 3rd, 2005, 02:41 AM Calif. Garden Sq., makes up most of the Mandaluyong Skyline in that area. And soon, the Gateway Garden Heights, Gateway Place, etc. Thanks for the pic.
pau_p1 May 3rd, 2005, 03:10 AM wow.. nice pic there... and also a great view of how tall GA Tower is now...
absent-minded May 3rd, 2005, 07:23 AM grabe.... ang laki laki ng California Garden Square! they're huge!! the developer should've at least designed those boxes nicer... thanks for the pic though!

do you guys know what that grey and yellow tower is in the right side of the second pic? looks very familiar. is it one of the Wack Wack condos? it actually looks quite nice, although just a tiny bit drab with the grey... I like the roof thing though!

It's 8 Wack Wack.
pau_p1 May 25th, 2005, 08:15 AM actually.. that is the better side of 8 Wack Wack... :D
carlo pontevedra May 25th, 2005, 11:33 AM I wonder why the developers of CGS called it "garden". Where's the garden when it's all a cluster of structures spaced no more than 10 meters apart from each other. I can also say that the said developers have deprived most of the CGS residents of natural air/ventilation, not to mention that they'd exposed them to possible fire catastrophe. Calling on the office of the Mayor of Mandaluyong.
pau_p1 June 2nd, 2005, 08:48 AM I just noticed this morning that the east side of One San Miguel Ave Bldg is now painted something blackish.... so now it's no longer white on that side...
also I noticed the other day that one of the Globe bldgs in Pioneer street is now almost fully painted with it's final primer... something close to beige...
thomasian June 2nd, 2005, 08:49 AM Yeah, the concrete on that side of OSMA is of a dark of color now.
I'm not sure if it's better but it does look good, seems to blend with the green glass.
The final color of Globe Telecom Plaza/Pioneer Highlands made it look like an office tower when it is mostly residential.
I guess the new color can be attributed to the recent handling of Ayala Property Management of the building.

btw, OSMA ba ang tallest sa ortigas? tnx :)
absent-minded July 19th, 2005, 03:30 AM nice shots, dudz and aaron! haha!
wow, the Manadaluyong/San Juan skyline is like jampacked in dudz's picture!! all because of the big fat orange clusters! haha! they don't look so bad there though... but I never knew na kitang kita pala ang BGC sa GH. what is Greenhills Garden Square? is it one of the towers in the thin cluster behind Greenhills where the Swire Elan Suites is being built? awesome view!
pau_p1 July 19th, 2005, 03:49 AM that cluster of buildings are only within the Mandaluyong area.... great shot there dudz!... you do find great spots to take pictures of the metro huh.... :D that shot made the Mandaluyong very clustered... :D
anyways.. from there we'd see the 5 u/c of Mandaluyong... from left... Lancaster Suites partially covered by 8 Wack Wack, GA Tower in green, California Garden Square, and Lee Gardens and the 2nd Dansalan Suite (only the crane is seen)...
anyways.. if the cranes just left of Lancaster is the Gateway Gardens, that would be six U/Cs... :D
Edmundtanso July 19th, 2005, 04:17 AM looking very dense!!

Gateway Gardens?
If you are referring to Gateway Garden Ridge, Gateway Garden Heights, One Gateway Place, then it's located to the right (not visible) of Globe Telecom Plaza.
So the other Dansalan Gardens is now u/c.
dudz July 19th, 2005, 05:24 PM thanks guys :) sayang nga hindi sumulyap ang paragon:D
i think the cranes that paul were referring to come from the mall across starmall. matagal na ring onhold ang construction nung mall, ginawa ng sports center of sorts ang ground floor, may badminton and basketball courts. may car auction din yata doon.
@absent-minded: lance, greenhills garden square is located along boni serrano dating santolan across crame bandang likod. kamag-anak siya ng california gardens, mas konte lang ang buildings but they have almost the same layout, design and color. quite visible from edsa.

San Juan is an old town with a colorful history
Before the arrival of the Spaniards, Santa Ana de Sapa ruled King Lacantagean and his wife, Bouan, was the mother town of San Juan, including the localities of Quiapo, San Miguel, Sampaloc, Pandacan, Paco, Malate, Pasay, San Pedro, Makati, San Felipe Neri and Taytay, then known as the province of Tondo, later named Manila.
San Juan's civil and religious affairs were dependent upon the authorities of the Parish of Santa Ana until 1863.
In 1602, the Dominican Friars constructed a small church in Sitio Kabayanan and called it the church of San Juan del Monte. In advocation of St. John the Baptist (San Juan Bautista), the name was given to the town and his image was enshrined thereat. The church was burned during the Chinese uprising of 1639 and by the British in July, 1763. It was reconstructed in 1774. Father Sebastian De Ocquero, O.P. Prior of Sto. Domingo Church, transferred a life-size image of the Crucified Christ from Binondo Church to the edifice. The image of St. John the Baptist gave way and awaited for the construction of the new church. Being the seat and Sanctuary of the Confratenity of Santisimo Cristo San Juan, approved by Pope Innocent the Tenth, the Church was renamed "Sanctuario de Santo Cristo" on March 4, 1648.
On July 15, 1894, the Vice-Royal Patron of the Philippines issued a Royal Decree establishing the Parish of San Juan Bautista. A year later, St. John the Baptist Church was constructed at Pinaglabanan. The image of San Juan Bautista was transferred and permanently enshrined therein. The first town fiesta was celebrated on June 24, 1896, barely two months before the Spanish-Filipino War erupted on August 30, 1896, which ignited the Philippine Revolution, where Andres Bonifacio and the Katipuneros invaded the Almacen De Polvora (built in 1771), a Spanish ammunition dump located at the present site of the San Juan Elementary School, on N. Domingo Street.
American Commodore George Dewey annihilated the Spanish Armada of Admiral Protacio Montojo on May 1, 1898 at Manila Bay. On June 12, 1898, General Aguinaldo proclaimed Philippine Independence in Kawit, Cavite. On August 3, 1898, Manila was occupied by the Americans. The Treaty of Paris of December 10, 1898 formally concluded the Spanish-American hostilities.
On February 4, 1899, Pvt. Willie Grayson of the U.S. Nebraska Volunteers Regiment fired the first shot at San Juan Bridge, killing two Filipinos. The incident started the American-Filipino War of 1899 and conquest of the country was made by the United States.
During the American Regime, Act. No. 137 of June 11, 1901 of the 2nd. U.S. Philippine Commission incorporated San Juan in the newly created Province of Rizal, and on October 1903 Act. No. 492 consolidated San Juan , with the Municipal Civil Government of San Felipe Neri (now Mandaluyong City).
On march 27, 1907 Act. No. 1625 separated San Juan from the jurisdiction of San Juan from the jurisdiction of San Felipe Neri and became an independent municipality.
On January 2, 1942, San Juan was occupied by the Japanese Imperial Forces. The Municipality was liberated by the 1st Calvary Division, U.S. army and Filipino guerillas on February 6, 1945. On July 4, 1946 the United States granted Independence to the country and the Philippines became a Republic. This date is now celebrated as Philippine-American Friendship Day.
Presidential Decree No. 84, promulgated on November 7, 1875 created the Metro Manila Commission. During the Martial Law Regime, San Juan, together with four (4) cities and twelve (12) other municipalities were incorporated in the Commission. President Corazon C. Aquino issued Executive Order No. 392, reorganized and renamed it Metro Manila Authority on January 9, 1990.
Local Sangguniang Bayan enacted Ordinance No. 42 on May 27, 1988 sponsored by Councilor Jose V. Alvior and co-sponsored by the Councilors Vincent M. Pacheco and Angel A. Gil of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Culture, History and Arts, declaring March 27, 1989 and every year thereafter as "Araw ng San Juan". A simple celebration of the Municipality's Foundation Anniversary was held on March 27, 1990, the first time in eighty three (83) years. In 1991 and 1992, no celebrations were held as the Foundation dates coincided with the Holy Week.
The traditional religious town fiesta held annually on June 24th since 1896 is the Feast of San Juan Bautista. It is distinct and separate from March 27th which is the Municipality's Founding as an independent, political and civil government declared locally as "Araw ng San Juan".

carljoseph1982 December 6th, 2005, 04:31 PM the new v-mall, according to sources, ang magiging anchor stores will be sm hypermarket and ace hardware............totoo daw b un?
thomasian December 7th, 2005, 05:16 AM I'm not sure about the SM Hypermarket.
But the original plan is that 5 SM-owned stores that will be occupying one-fourth of V-Mall - SM Appliance Center, Watsons (the 2nd Watsons in GSC), Toy Kingdom, ACE Hardware and Our Home. The rest is targeted towards computer stores but they're probably having a hard time getting computer stores as tenants because most of the former tenants have already transfered to the Connecticut Parking Arcade. If the Hypermarket news is indeed true, then it could probably be because they can't get enough IT-related tenants to fill V-Mall.

bagel December 7th, 2005, 06:37 PM OT: My favorite use of the word render is in cooking. That's when you turn animal fats (like chicken fat or duck fat) into cooking oil. You just take the chunks of fat and make it liquify in a sautee pan.
