The number of traffic accidents and the number of fatalities in Cambodia are among the highest per capita in Asia unfortunately.

According to the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, the number of deaths by traffic accidents in Cambodia ranks second, only after that by HIV/AIDS

For those who are not from Thailand or Cambodia, this is what you expect to see when you walk on the street :D

^^

hahahah+.....very common in Thailand too BUT they don't usually walk by themselves like this.....the caretaker needs to accompany them, but less elephants are easily seen on the street nowadays.....it's against the law

I think in Phnom Penh they also had caretakers follow the elephants, you can't just let them walk out like this without anyone accompany behind. But it is truth the elephants on the streets are not common anymore, even in Phnom Penh.

I still remember elephants on the streets in Bangkok, they usually came out at night and there is one just behind Pratunam Center. Many tourists stay there and take photos.

I have this feeling a little. Too much cars and rules in the city are very annoying. A little anarchy/freedom bring a little fun, a life more cool !

I hope cycle, Tuk tuk will always be there !!!

That traffic is crazy, it seen like no one seen to care about the light stop. They just go, and go, that's the reason why PP traffic is the worse in the world.

Fear doesn't exist in Khmer!

Government should do more to set guidelines and rules for transportation.

Locals have no concept of safety, most likely don't have license, and even if they have license, never need to do a driving test.

Driving on the wrong side of the road, running red light is common scene.

Motorcyclist doesn't know how to use the mirror, the mirrors are usually at the wrong angle, or broken, and a lot doesn't know how to ride straight, they never replaced their break light, don't signals, so cars at the back never know what they are trying to do.

There are rules on the road, but unless you executed those rule, and that means it need a demerit system like most advanced country, and/or confiscation of vechiles, heavy fines, the rules does nothing. Now, road police buy their position, and collect $1 or 2 coffee money. And if the driver just drive pass them, these police can't do anything about it.

If the government is serious in executed the road rules, at least 50% of the traffic will be removed within a months. You don't need to built 100m dollars overpass bridge, if people follow the rule, you won't get so serious traffic jam.

But the sad things is, if locals can't drive/ride, it means a lot of people will be unable to earn a few dollar a day for living and will stave.

Another issues with traffic is lots of people have no idea what their bike/car is capable of, during heavy rain like Monday, the water is 2 feet deep, and they just attempt to drive across, water gets into the engine, and the car/bike can't move, which stop everything behind it.
