From the Article

CHICAGO — The national anthem at the United Center is unlike any other. The crowd starts roaring from the first note and never quiets down, a tradition that goes back to the old Chicago Stadium and something that must be experienced firsthand to fully appreciate.

But the rousing atmosphere designed to excite the home team also charges up the visiting team as well.

"Goose bumps," is Marc-Edouard Vlasic's two-word description when asked what it's like for visiting players, even Canadians, at that moment. "Even if it's in Chicago, I can feed off the energy. As soon as the guy starts, I'm waiting for it. I know it's coming."

Thank you for starting this thread!!

I've been thinking about starting one myself since the Vancouver series, but I guess I was just a little superstitious. But time to let er' rip and show the love for the Hawks.....

Just in case you didn't figure out my title to my post:

Yes we are definetly going to win the cup, the Hawks seem unstoppable at the moment. They better not let us down like the Bears did a few years ago...

^^ I wouldn't say definetly ChitownCity. Just look what Montreal did to the Capitals. But yeah, the Hawks should be big favorites going into the cup.

It does make me nervous that the only time they played the Flyers this year, they lost 3-2. But there are two big differences now. First, and foremost, Huet was in nets in that game; and we all know he's been replaced by Niemi since March. Also, Dustin Byfuglien had been added to the Kane/Toews line, and has been a tremendous factor in these playoffs. Think about how many game winning goals he's produced. What amazing coaching from coach Q.

WE HAVE TO HANG ON TO THE MAGIC!!!!

I have been following the Hawks since the early 80's. I remember even seeing a game where Tony Esposito was net-minder against the Hartford Whalers. Dennis Savard, Doug Wilson, Al Secord, Jeremy Roenick, Chris Chelios, the list goes on and on. And I watched them get swept by the Penguins back in 92. But in all the time I have followed the Hawks, this is the only team that I have seen that feels like this could ACTUALLY HAPPEN! If I see someone bearing the indian's head hoist Lord Stanley's Cup above their head, I will most assuredly burst into tears of joy!!!!!:)

That's just one game, I really don't think anyone can beat the Hawks in a series.

Northsider- generally I agree with you. And I think the west was stronger this year than the east (so don't make too much of the Caps being eliminated). But it's not over til it's over.

This is such a great matchup between us and philly. Philly is my second favorite team, so I'm extra pumped for this matchup. Philly underachieved during the regular season, so their record doesn't indicate how good they really are. The hawks have struggled when teams have gotten physical with them, so this will be a great series. Of course, the hawks may sweep them, but the games should be entertaining and relatively close.

Quenneville's mustache is solely responsible for feeding energy to this young hawks team to get nasty with philly. Philly will try to live up to their reputation and bully us youngsters around. We need to bully them right back and end the drought! Eager should be full murdering people on the ice, and burish should be baiting guys into penalties. Hopefully bolland can continue to be a complete asshole out there, and buf can continue his reign of terror. Hossa, where are you? We need you to show up this round!

Yikes! The only mention I've heard of Hossa lately is the "Hossa Hex" since he couldn't complete on his other cup appearances. Should be good, provided this story has a happy ending for chitown.

Haha, word. His numbers aren't as terrible as I initially thought, but still not anywhere near what he was supposed to do. At least he does alright defensively and brings effort. It seems like every time he has a scoring chance, he panics and misfires the shot. I think his troubled scoring has gotten into his head a little. I'm crazy excited for this though, because I'm a cubs fan and too young to remember the bears superbowl. This is big. GO HAWKS!

GO HAWKS!!!!!!!

I think if we win tonight, it's gonna put the Flyers in a big hole. If not, we may be in for a long series. My bet is that the Hawks will not only be playing against the Flyers, but also the ref's. Here's a prediction; hardly any penalties on the Flyers, and they give the Flyers a two man advantage to spot them a goal. They really want to make this series go more games.

Northsider
June 1st, 2010, 03:09 AM
The refs are beyond annoying in this series. Lots of no-calls on the Flyers. Anyone see the "icing" call on the Hawks in the 1st? Kane touched the punk with NO Flyers around...I can't believe the announcers, coach, and players didn't get more upset (or even notice at all)

Yup. While I could easily see us sweeping them, it won't be easy. The Hawks completely checked out of game 2 in the late 2nd and 3rd periods. I'd like to see offensive zone time stats for the 3rd period. Did the Hawks even get it past the blue line at all? We got completely owned in the 3rd, and only because of a great defensive effort did we hold the lead.

But...like I said, I don't feel that any team can take the Hawks in a series.

rgolch
June 3rd, 2010, 03:31 PM
Hmmmmmm........ alrighty then. No reason to get worried just yet. I didn't expect a sweep. It's does still concern me that the Hawks seem to run out of gas in the 3rd. Interestingly, they seemed more energized in OT. I still think the officiating is atrocious. Pronger beats the crap out of Buf, and we take the penalty? And there was a nasty punch to the back of the head on Versteeg that never resulted in a penalty. What does it take to put one of these thugs in the box, a knife to the back?

Either way, you gotta give props to the Flyers. They're an amazing team.

Northsider
June 3rd, 2010, 04:17 PM
It was the crappy Hawks that came to play last night, not the unstoppable Hawks. Again, how long did we spend in their zone? I remember maybe twice seeing good shifts and pressure in their zone...the rest of the game was defense in the Hawks zone. With all that pressure, it's no wonder we lost. Nobody chased pucks, nobody put good pressure on them, nobody played hard against the boards. We lost every single little battle...as if the Flyers were one step ahead every time. Officiating sucked, again...but the Hawks need to realize this and get tough. If Pronger is going to crosscheck buff every time he's in the paint, then we need to get tough on their guys too.

We got outplayed, plain and simple. Hawks didn't want to win that game, and it showed.

June 3rd, 2010, 04:34 PM
It's amazing how bad the Hawks get owned in their own zone. You think their getting thrown off by the physical nature of the Flyers?

Well.... That ruined my night....

Again, the lame Hawks showed up again. I don't know what their problem is. They look like they don't care out there. They look like they just expect the Flyers to hand them the cup because of the great season they had.:ohno: They are getting outplayed in every single aspect.

The good Hawks didn't show up until 4 minutes left in the 3rd...

Game 6 earns highest rating for NHL game since ’74

NEW YORK (AP)—NHL television ratings have bounced back from the post-lockout doldrums—and way beyond.

The clincher of the Stanley Cup finals was the most-watched and highest-rated NHL game in 36 years. The Chicago Blackhawks’ 4-3 overtime win over the Philadelphia Flyers in Game 6, which earned them their first championship since 1961, drew a 4.7 rating and 8 share Wednesday night on NBC.

That’s the best since a 7.6/27 for Game 6 of the Boston-Philadelphia series in 1974. It was 38 percent higher than the 3.4/6 for last year’s Pittsburgh-Detroit Game 6 and 9 percent higher than the 4.3/8 for Game 7 in 2009.

The network said Thursday that the game was watched by 8.28 million viewers.

The series’ average rating was a 3.4/6, the best on network TV since Carolina-Detroit in 2002 and up 10 percent from last year.

“This has been a special year for hockey beginning with the Winter Classic continuing through the Olympics and ending with this incredibly exciting Stanley Cup final,” NBC Sports president Ken Schanzer said in a release.

Ratings represent the percentage of all homes with televisions tuned into a program. Shares represent the percentage of all homes with TVs in use at the time.

Game 6 drew a 32.8 rating and 50 share in Chicago, which means that half of all homes with televisions in use were tuned into the game.

This amazes me.
