It's somewhat over 100 meter high and the dome has just been renovated so it's really shiny gold again. ;)

Very impressive building, it looks even more impressive because it's build on a hill.

Here are some pictures I took in Brussels this summer.

It's massive (just look at the people in the bottom corner of the pic)

It's sort of like Philadelphia's City Hall--imposing but ugly.

Still, I give it a 8/10. It's so ugly it's kind of magnificent.

I believe the architect killed himself by jumping off his own building

This is what I call megalomanous. Trying to represent the power of an empire which never existed. Not using any original architecture, but just copying from others and enlarging it. 5/10 because it's still impressive and the beautiful location.

That was common use in Belgium those days, every government building was built in this neo-classicall style (or whatever you call this in english). Belgium tried hard to become some sort of empire, for example with their colony in Africa (Congo). The Belgian king saw himself as the ruler of an empire and these buildings add to this idea.

Ok, Belgium was not an empire but it was a very rich and developped country at that time. Don't forget Belgium was after England the second industrialised country and the population was bigger than that of the Netherlands.

Bombastic. But there are nicer pictures of the Justitiepaleis. The dome is all bright and shining again.
So a 9,5, for the building and the setting.

It is presumed to be the biggest building constructed in the 19th century, it used to be the biggest building off europe, and still is one of the biggest in europe. I HATE Classicism, I LOVE this building this is eclectic and not neo classicism or classicism as some off you think. Idiots

Not my style of architecture and too monstrous in the context of Brussels and especially if you stand right in front of it.

But the feeling you get by walking into the big hall and then looking up inside that enormous dome is just indescribable, so it's a 8/10 for me.

A big landmark is always good. I like it, especially the inside.
