spankymonkey June 26th, 2004, 06:32 PM Congratualtions on a emphatic victory.
I think it will take us a good couple of years for our new players to come in and intergrate with the others. with the loss of so mnay big names after the World Cup throught retirement and injuries, we have looked so jagged and poor.
ohwell give us a couple of years and will be back ;) and fingers crossed back and winning.
Well played, have a pint of on me
Fabian June 26th, 2004, 11:49 PM Well done Australia. England need to learn to play as a team, and not rely on the kicking power of little Johnny. Then they will be invincible.
Ozzy June 27th, 2004, 12:50 AM Ha Ha still not got over that fact that England are the world champs and you are NOT!
Cat June 27th, 2004, 12:54 AM GO WALLABIES
51-15 sweet numbers
the game they play in heaven!
A demon appears at heaven's pearly gates and says to Saint Peter. " Satan challenges The Lord to a game of rugby."
Saint Peter replies: "I am sure The Lord will accept, as you know that all the greatest rugby players will be playing for us"
"Yes" replied the demon "but we have all the referees and linesmen!"

the fact that we won the rugby world cup over the abbos was a good shout because you lot make such a big deal over beating us and think its great, the fact you won us today meant nothing to any of us over here. I am only writing this because I seen this thread on the front of the skyscraper main page and didnt even know we was playing rugby with you lot.

According to your reasoning, which 'wog' team is going to win World Cup 2004 (soccer). Becks also has not had a very good year!. :eek2:
chrisaus June 27th, 2004, 02:01 PM It's WA v Vic in $12m battle
THE fierce sporting rivalry between WA and Victoria is about to be re-ignited.
At stake is a $12 million prize – the nation's newest rugby union side in the world's leading provincial competition.
In just a few weeks the rugby world will know whether the Super 12 competition is set for expansion in 2006 with an extra team in Australia and another in South Africa.
If it gets the green light it will start a frenzy of activity in WA and Victoria, frontrunners for the new team, although there are agitators talking about a new franchise on the NSW central coast, the Gold Coast or western Sydney.
It's not just the WA rugby community excited at the prospect of a Perth-based team – government and big business is also behind the push which is gaining momentum.
Rugby WA, the state's controlling body, has been preparing for the announcement for almost five years. It has put together a strong group of sporting and business leaders, lobbyists and government representatives.
But everything hinges on future broadcasting rights. SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand, Australia Rugby) has been testing the water before announcing a formal offer to News Ltd (publishers of The Sunday Times), which has been the rugby alliance broadcasting partner.
The deal ends next year, and although News Ltd has first right of refusal on a new, five-year contract, SANZAR hired broadcasting agent Ian Frykberg to gauge world market interest in a new expanded concept.
Frykberg will present his report to SANZAR on July 19 and an offer will be made to News Ltd. If a 14-team concept is accepted by the successful broadcaster, then the serious lobbying and jostling will start.
"The process of seeking expressions of interest from rugby bodies will start," an ARU spokesman said. "But any new team must be owned by rugby."
The new franchise will have just 18 months to get ready.
"There will be a lot of work to do in a very short time," the spokesman said.
A $6 million bill for player wages, their flights and accommodation during the competition, and national marketing would be picked up by the ARU.
The state union does the rest – pays the coaching staff and management salaries, negotiates a stadium contract, organises corporate sponsorship and sells tickets. An expanded competition would generate 94 games, with each of the four Australian sides having up to seven home matches.

If your main joy is football (soccer), then you should be filled with joy by that fine choking performance by your lads - YET AGAIN ! Your lot are habitual underachievers and losers when it comes to sport.
As for us aussies having an inferiority complex - it is you (a pom), trolling on an australian thread - say no more.
And for a nation who doesn't care about rugby, it was interesting to watch a couple of million of you jumping on the bandwagon when the "sweet chariot" returned to London last November to show off the Webb-Ellis Cup.
BTW, keep your racist shit off this forum you nasty little englishman. And while your at it, get your hand off your miniscule penis!

Amaruu June 28th, 2004, 07:56 AM Lol at the England soccer team being a bunch of chokers.
Hey Ozzy, go choke it like Beckham.
chrisaus June 28th, 2004, 07:56 AM what soccer things has england won in the last few years?
TOCC June 28th, 2004, 10:11 AM hah England are the worst losers of all, pretend they hate the game when the lose, but cant wait to tell the world when they win. Youve won the Rugby World Cup once, and less then 8 months later youve have more then 120points scored against you and only 25? for in three games. At least the Wallabies proved how good they were by continuing to be the best team for months following...
English rugby is only making excuses, the wallabies have also faced there own problems, dont see them making excuses even before they lose though.

I think I have said it once before on this forum, but England's sporting success on a world scale is as follows:
* 1966 World Cup in Soccer
* 1981 Ashes in Cricket
* 2003 World Cup in Rugby Union.
And bugger all in between.
** As you can see, England's trophy cabinet is bulging at the seams. *** What makes it even more remarkable, is that England have only been around for over 2000 years.
3 trophies of significance, in over 2000 years. That's a remarkable strike rate. Yep, we are jealous alright.

Wezza June 28th, 2004, 10:36 AM Can someone please remind me what the score was in the last encounter in a soccer match between Australia and England??? :)
Aussie Bhoy June 28th, 2004, 11:04 AM As an Aussie living in London, I have to say the Poms cared about a thousand times more about losing to Portugal at Euro 2004 than they did at losing to us in the Rugby.
In the days leading up to the Rugby the average person on the street wouldn't even have known it was on. On the day of the game it was on pay TV and the news and papers here did report that they got thrashed, but believe me, they took it very well compared to having the last minute winning goal disallowed and losing the penalty shoot-out to Portugal.
Football (Soccer) is king over here in a big way. It's probably because it goes almost year round. Rugby and Cricket are seen more as posh games, for well educated types who went to the right school. I was amazed when I first arrived here to see the Cricket Ashes on live TV in a pub, and not a single person watching it except for me and another Aussie.
Anyway, it was a great win to the Wallabies, the backs were on fire.

That's understood, but I think that the offensive part of their conduct is that millions of them got behind England for the world cup last year, but now that they are losing AGAIN they pretend they don't care. They can't really have it both ways.
BrizzyChris June 30th, 2004, 10:59 AM Well done Australia. England need to learn to play as a team, and not rely on the kicking power of little Johnny. Then they will be invincible.
I totally disagree. If you watched their previous two games against the All Blacks, England played excellent, but just couldn't break the NZ defence. If Wilkinson was playing, they might have got a few more penalty kicks, but he would have made them win. Not to mention, most of their other best backs (Will Greenwood and Jason Robinson) weren't playing, and half the World Cup forward pack wasn't there. But England definately do not rely on Jonny, he is a help, but they can get by, they just need to get their full team back again.
Aussie Bhoy June 30th, 2004, 11:56 AM One thing that has been funny, is that as an excuses to the media in England the England management have been saying,
A. The England team have played a long season, and are tired
B. These aren't all of the same players as the World Cup team
You would think one argument would cancel out the other.

chrisaus July 27th, 2004, 02:26 PM Perth game a sell-out
When Australia face South African in Saturday's Vodacom Tri-Nations match in Perth, it will be in front of a capacity crowd of 43 500 at the Subiaco Oval — a record for this well-known Western Australian venue.
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) announced on Monday that tickets for the Test between the Wallabies and Springboks have officially sold out.
The last remaining tickets were snapped up on Monday, guaranteeing a capacity crowd for this crucial Test.
The sell-out crowd probably has as much to do with the large expat South African community in Perth as it has to do with Australian support, but the Wallabies are clearly hoping to have a larger following at a venue which has become known as the Boks' 'home away from home'.
The Wallabies are certainly encouraging their fans to wear gold to the game to show their support for the team.
"It is always good to play in front of a Perth crowd, because they love their rugby and really get involved in the game," Wallaby coach Eddie Jones said.
"But to sell out Subiaco Oval five days before the match is a great effort, and a sign that rugby is really taking hold in Western Australia," he added.
Subiaco Oval is the largest and most recognised stadium in Western Australia. Subiaco was first built in 1908 and was then known as Mueler Park, with the first match on May 9 that year between Subiaco and East Perth.
The facilities have been consistently improved since.
Despite being home to the AFL's West Coast Eagles and Fremantle Dockers, Subiaco is not new to rugby union, with the ARU making a concerted effort to make inroads in the West.
The last time Australia played South Africa in Perth, it was a 14-14 draw, the only time the two countries have drawn in 54 Tests.
The crowd that day of 42 658 was the record for a rugby match at Subiaco.
Ironically South Africa have only lost once on the ground, going down to England in a Rugby World Cup pool match at Subiaco last year.
If fit and selected, this weekend's match will also be Australia captain George Gregan's 100th Test match for Australia.

CULWULLA July 28th, 2004, 01:13 AM go the wallabies!!
TOCC July 28th, 2004, 01:59 PM the match against new zealand was a pretty pathetic match.. it was just annoying to watch, i like watching good footy and the conditions didnt allow for that. Its a shame, but im looking forward to see how we go against Sth Africa
chrisaus July 30th, 2004, 02:54 AM Rugby fever strikes Perth
http://www.thewest.com.au/pictures/100-gen30greg3.jpg
A sell-out Perth crowd will watch Australia take on South Africa in Wallabies captain George Gregan's 100th Test appearance tomorrow - but one of their biggest fans won't be in the stands.
Prime Minister John Howard, a frequent fixture at Wallabies matches, is in town to address the State Liberal conference at noon tomorrow but will fly out before the 6pm kick-off. But while Mr Howard won't be at Subiaco Oval to cheer the Wallabies on, 43,000 others will: rugby diehards, sports fans and those lucky enough to be on the corporate A-list.
Those categories are not necessarily mutually exclusive, as staunch fan and Western Power chairman Neil Hamilton proves.
He is an invited guest of the Australian Rugby Union and will also entertain guests in Western Power's corporate suite. Mr Hamilton is tipping a Wallabies win in a tight contest.
"Some cynics think it's a home game for the Springboks, there's that many bloody ex-South Africans in Perth," he laughed.
Mr Hamilton is one of thousands of corporate fans who will watch the match from Subiaco Oval's 176 boxes and 59 suites. All are sold out with hosts happy to pay between $275 and $305 a head for their clients. The arena's six function rooms are also sold out, as is an 800-capacity marquee erected on adjoining Kitchener Park.
Subiaco Oval general manager Shane Walsh said guests would dine on Manjimup marron, lamb cutlets, desserts and cheese platters washed down with wines from Chalice Bridge, Houghton, Eaglehawk and Wolf Blass.
Nearly $10 million in economic benefits accrued to WA the last time the teams met at Subiaco Oval in 2001, according to an independent report by Right Marketing Australia.
The report found an estimated 3000 people travelled to Perth from interstate and overseas, spending their tourist dollars at cafes, restaurants, pubs and shops. Tourism Western Australia officials are expecting similar figures this time.
A big crowd of South African fans is expected at the Leederville Hotel, which has retained its 2003 World Cup status as "Bok Town". The hotel is the official Perth home of the Springboks and proprietor Craig Hutchinson expects 2000 fans.
Millions of viewers from the United States, Japan, Britain, Europe, New Zealand, South Africa and South-East Asia are expected to tune into live telecasts of the match. Channel 7's live Perth broadcast starts at 5.30pm

chrisaus July 30th, 2004, 05:22 PM Gregan factor key to Wallabies' hopes
http://www.thewest.com.au/pictures/250-spt31rugby1.jpg
The World Cup slipped away, the Bledisloe went begging and now the Wallabies are facing the prospect of missing out on another trophy - the Tri-Nations.
But inspired by the 100-game milestone of captain George Gregan and the 50-match achievement of hooker Jeremy Paul, Australia is anxious to start correcting the balance when it takes on South Africa at Subiaco Oval tonight.
And beating the Springboks, an outfit resurrected under the stewardship of coach Jake White, would re-ignite Australia's Tri-Nations campaign.
Anything less would leave Eddie Jones' men, who have had a week longer than the Springboks to recover from defeat to New Zealand, playing for little more than pride in their remaining Tri-Nations Tests.
Gregan, who will become just the fourth player to play 100 Test matches, believes the Wallabies are ready to rebound from the 16-7 loss to New Zealand in Wellington.
"We obviously wanted to win the Bledisloe Cup but that's something we can't do this year. But Tri-Nations is something we want to achieve and we have to play well and perform well to stay alive (in that)," Gregan said yesterday.
Gregan's presence should help. The Wallaby scrum-half, carrying a shoulder injury, watched from the stands as the Australian defence weathered a ferocious Kiwi storm two weeks ago.
"Our defence was quite awesome in that game," he said.
"Our off-the-line defence especially . . . but that means nothing when you don't win Test matches.
"The Wallabies cannot afford to allow the Springboks as much possession tonight.
"It's a hard game to play without possession.
"You don't want to be defending for large periods of games. You are going to lose more games than you win when you do that.
"We've put a lot of work into those specific areas."
Gregan joins England's Jason Leonard (114), France international Phillipe Sella (111) and Australia's David Campese (101) as rugby union's only centenarians.

chrisaus August 1st, 2004, 11:15 AM Larkham leads Australia home at Subiaco
Stephen Larkham shook off a hesitant start to lead the Wallabies to 30-26 win over South Africa at Subiaco Oval in Perth.
The win, in George Gregan's 100th Test match, ended South Africa's dominance over Australia at this ground. The Springboks hadn't lost to the Wallabies in two previous matches in Perth and threatened to extend that winning sequence when they led 26-23 late in the match.
But Larkham and former South African Clyde Rathbone combined for the winning try in the 71st minute.
The result keeps alive Australia's hopes of winning the Tri Nations crown. By scoring four tries, the Wallabies earned a bonus point and now sit on five points after two games compared to New Zealand's eight points.
Man of the match Larkham was coming off a disastrous game in Australia's opening Tri Nations loss to New Zealand in Wellington and he started this game looking like he still had a hangover from that match.
He was patchy in the first half and left his team on the back foot when he gave away an intercept pass that allowed South Africa to lead 16-7 midway through the first half.
But as the game went on he grew in confidence and scored a try of his own before setting up two others.
Critically he started to make South Africa pay the price for their rushing defence, which was curtailing the Wallabies' attacking options out wide.
No other player in world rugby is as elusive as Larkham when it comes to running through a defensive line and he used all his silky running to create the win for Australia.
Captain Gregan said his team took a while to find their rhythm after the rough start.
"The key to the match was the way we finished off the first half, the last 20 minutes of the first half was really good, we were playing our style of football, attacking and finding our rhythm," Gregan said.
"We tried to do that more consistently in the second half and I think we did it better but we still have some improvement to do."
Lote Tuqiri, who excelled in broken play with his hard-running, was the first to dot down after hauling in a cross-field lob from Matt Giteau to put the Wallabies in front in the sixth minute.
South Africa struck back when five-eighth Jaco van der Westhuyzen swooped through a tangle of bodies to reach a grubber kick from winger Jean de Villiers.
De Villiers enhanced South Africa's lead with an intercept on halfway as Larkham appeared to hesitate before throwing a pass in front of Giteau and into the South African's hands.
Larkham made amends as Australia capitalised on a sweeping downfield movement created by unpredictable fullback Chris Latham, who decided to run the ball from close to his own goal-line.
The Wallabies were hot on attack as halftime loomed and opted for a penalty as the hooter sounded to trail 16-15 at the break.
Larkham's ability to run at and through the defence set up a second half try to Latham, who hot-footed it to the corner to score.
The to and fro contest turned South Africa's way when makeshift winger Gaffie du Toit scored on a stab kick by De Wet Barry. Normally a five-eighth, du Toit was on the field for the injured de Villiers but finished as well as any winger to give his side a 26-23 lead midway through the second half.
The critical try for Australia came with nine minutes to go.
Larkham was again the creator as he slid into the Springbok defensive line, committing defenders before shooting a pass to Rathbone, who was making his first appearance against his former countrymen.
The match ended in a mixture of drama and farce as South Africa threw ball everywhere as they searched for the winning try.
