View Full Version : AUCKLAND: Photos Thread (Part 1) Marky Mark October 18th, 2004, 07:35 AM Just joking ! Atkinson has a double life , Spiderman ! Cool Photo Pan ! flyin_higher October 18th, 2004, 08:04 AM You can see the construction site for the Precinct apartments in your pic! atkinson1 October 18th, 2004, 08:06 AM How high is NRM supposed to be? Because from the BNZ tower it looks quite small and BNZ is only like 106m YuK! We know you actually hate it Just joking ! Atkinson has a double life , Spiderman ! Cool Photo Pan ! I'm like that French Spider man guy. flyin_higher October 18th, 2004, 08:20 AM Tom, NRM will be 110m to roof, 125m to spire, but it ain't finished yet is it? so not full height yet. atkinson1 October 18th, 2004, 11:44 AM I know but I was in the BNZ tower today and it looked small as. Marky Mark October 22nd, 2004, 11:58 AM Tom , we will see if Santa can get you a boat for Xmas , so you can take shots like this .Unless ya aready have ! :) http://www.kitchener.co.nz/webfiles/KitchenerGroup/webpages/images/5161/wharf_pic_build.jpg atkinson1 October 26th, 2004, 08:43 AM double post atkinson1 October 26th, 2004, 08:52 AM Tom , we will see if Santa can get you a boat for Xmas , so you can take shots like this .Unless ya aready have ! Already got a boat but it needs a new motor so Santa wasn't too far off. Until then I'll have to use the kayaks. That photo looks like part of a video I made - a clip where the camera rapidly swings out of the city and around the Hotel on the end of the wharf. A steady shot from the ferry sped up by about 1000%. Flyin's seen it. Marky Mark October 26th, 2004, 01:57 PM Already got a boat but it needs a new motor so Santa wasn't too far off. Either that or you were on Speed ,or shooting the movie Spiderman saves the Skytower . :) sam_L October 29th, 2004, 07:53 AM Scene One looking snazy: http://img79.exs.cx/img79/7110/Sceneone.jpg Funky new rock sculptures in Takutai Square: http://img83.exs.cx/img83/9822/TakutaiSquare.jpg Lookin' up: http://img92.exs.cx/img92/5051/Lookinup.jpg Marky Mark October 29th, 2004, 08:07 AM You should enter that Photo "Looking up "in the OZ Photo competition next week , there are some great photos being taken from Kiwiscraper members and I very rarely see one entered , give it a go Buddy! :) sam_L October 29th, 2004, 09:35 AM Cheers Mark! I was considering entering that one but i wasn't sure if it was up to scratch really. Here's something else i threw together: http://img71.exs.cx/img71/2671/TakapunaSkyline.jpg The placement and orientation are complete guesses though. atkinson1 October 29th, 2004, 10:51 AM Wicked photos. That lookin up photo is classy as. That render looks pretty close, it looks like it might be a little more to the left but its hard to know. flyin_higher October 29th, 2004, 11:10 AM Wow, those photos are great. Looks as tho Sentinel will be very impacting on North Shore's skyline  Marky Mark October 29th, 2004, 11:42 AM Are you able to throw something together to show how Harbour Residences will look against the Main CBD ? Will be watching out for " looking Up " Cool Stuff ! :) sam_L October 30th, 2004, 01:41 AM Again, this is just based on educated guesses using the limited amount of info i have about it, but here is my impression of Harbourcity: edit - improved render: http://img98.exs.cx/img98/4414/Harbourcityinplace.jpg flyin_higher October 30th, 2004, 01:57 AM Not bad at all. However it is in the wrong position. You've put it where NRM actually is, while harbourcity will be to the right of Vero in your pic. cherrios  sam_L October 30th, 2004, 02:32 AM Hmm yes you're right. It would be further to the right, but more infront of Vero considering when you're looking from the garden at Vero (facing away from Vero's diagonal facade) you look diagonally across to the Harbourcity site. I've edited the above post with a more accurate render. Marky Mark October 30th, 2004, 02:33 AM That will even look better if Harbour Residences are to the right and NRM is too the left of Vero Tower . Thanks Sammy ! :) atkinson1 October 30th, 2004, 05:10 AM In my bung opinion, it will be somewhere around here: EDIT: See Below flyin_higher October 30th, 2004, 05:26 AM Nice try Tom, but your off too. Presently you've put it over the top of the Gus Fisher Gallery, lol. You should be able to see the orange crane in front of vero (your pic Tom), and this is where harbourcity is. The slender side will face the waterfront, so it will look particularly skinny from that angle. atkinson1 October 30th, 2004, 05:37 AM Its not over Gus Fisher its in front over NRM, but behind some smaller buildings around britomart. All it needs is to be left a little more sam_L October 30th, 2004, 06:14 AM Any better? http://img101.exs.cx/img101/3483/AnotherHCrender.jpg I've put it infront of that orange building (at the bottom right of Harbourcity in tom's pic) which is where i think it will be. atkinson1 October 30th, 2004, 07:57 AM EDIT Image Removed flyin_higher October 30th, 2004, 08:54 AM Yeah thats pretty much it Sam. Oi Tom, its even further from where it will be. lol. Ah well. You have put it directly opposite from NRM. Check a map. Its right opposite Vero, on the corner of Fort and Gore st's. Good work anyway, lol. atkinson1 October 30th, 2004, 11:57 PM LOl yeah you're right. Oh well I'll just leave it to the pros. Hey when I saw in the $2 shop I saw something cool - it was a rectangular prism thing, with Auckland CBD mapped out inside it in 3D using particles. It was very simplified of course but still pretty awesome. atkinson1 October 31st, 2004, 11:02 AM Enough is enough. Image Removed Marky Mark November 15th, 2004, 03:30 AM Lots of groovy comments on your Looking Up Photo Sam L , and nice high Marks as well , it takes alot to impress the OZ Members , hope it spurs you on to do some more ! http://img92.exs.cx/img92/5051/Lookinup.jpg atkinson1 November 15th, 2004, 04:55 AM Yes and it really represents too sam_L November 15th, 2004, 05:07 AM Cheers guys. Looks like the aussie's are all wrapped up in the Foggy Rialto photo though. I wish i had time to more some more photography. Maybe i'll try to over the holidays. Hey tom why don't you put more stuff into the Oz Photo Contest? You do some really flash stuff. I was up Mt Eden the other day. Here's a pano i put together using my budget stitching together skills. http://img125.exs.cx/img125/9194/PanofromMtEden.jpg atkinson1 November 15th, 2004, 09:06 AM That's beautiful flyin_higher November 15th, 2004, 09:13 AM Neato Sam! Marky Mark December 5th, 2004, 05:03 AM Don't Know if you guys have seen this site before ,showing heaps of Aerial photos of Auckland . http://www.incredible.co.nz/index.htm http://www.incredible.co.nz/ImageFolio31_files/skins/cool_blue/images/pixel.gif Perth4life3 December 5th, 2004, 05:29 AM Hi everyone, Not exactly a skyscraper, but I just love this billboard :) http://www.nancyhu.com/uploads/images/pic_4133.jpg Hope you enjoyed it. you stole that mini off us!!! http://img22.exs.cx/img22/3537/n2hdsc07843.jpg (from last christmas) Perth4life3 December 5th, 2004, 05:32 AM because that was on Forrest Chase (in city mall) thats why it says we've always loved a good chase sam_L December 14th, 2004, 06:47 AM Nice link, mark. I didn't realise Whangamata was that big.. (refering to that first aerial shot) and i've only just come back from 2 weeks there about 3 hours ago. Marky Mark December 14th, 2004, 10:32 PM Nice link, mark. I didn't realise Whangamata was that big.. (refering to that first aerial shot) and i've only just come back from 2 weeks there about 3 hours ago. Isn't it far from Hot Water beach ? Yeah apartments will be popping up all over the place there ! :) atkinson1 December 14th, 2004, 11:53 PM Haha I remember hot water beach. Man that place is in the middle of nowhere. I actually have no clue at all where it is, I just remember going there once. sam_L December 15th, 2004, 07:14 AM Yeah Hot Water Beach is a bit up the coast from Whangamata. There is already one or two low-rise apartment blocks in Whanga, but i couldn't take any photos because my camera jammed up on the second day of the trip and there was nowhere i could take it to get repaired. aucklandman February 11th, 2005, 11:55 AM I rekon that the vero, motroplis, sky tower and phillip fox bldngs are the best in auckland. http://www.aucklandmotorways.co.nz/DSCN1840.JPG http://www.aucklandmotorways.co.nz/DSCN1829.JPG Sorry about size. sam_L February 12th, 2005, 06:44 AM Nice choices, aucklandman. And nice pics. sam_L March 1st, 2005, 09:24 AM Here's an aerial that was in the latest CityScene paper. Sorry about all the missing bits. They were boxes with text and things like that. http://img52.exs.cx/img52/5637/waterfrontaerial3go.jpg Anyone else notice a substantial lack of green compared with the likes of Sydney's Harbour? atkinson1 March 1st, 2005, 09:42 AM Nice pic. Alot of the CBD is missing but shows the viaduct areas well. sam_L March 1st, 2005, 11:30 AM Yeah. Shame about the missing parts. I'd love to see the original pic. Marky Mark March 2nd, 2005, 11:49 AM http://www.bayswater.co.nz/images/aerial_photo.jpg :) sam_L March 3rd, 2005, 05:07 AM Very nice mark! Where abouts did you find that? atkinson1 March 3rd, 2005, 09:36 AM Still misses parts out, but yeah its pretty good SkylineTurbo March 3rd, 2005, 10:42 AM http://www.bayswater.co.nz/images/aerial_photo.jpg Nice find Mark. Marky Mark March 3rd, 2005, 11:20 AM Very nice mark! Where abouts did you find that? This is where I found it >> :) http://www.bayswater.co.nz/homepage.asp# atkinson1 March 3rd, 2005, 11:28 AM Bayswater Marina is cool Marky Mark March 14th, 2005, 12:04 AM http://www.bayleys.co.nz/magazines/images/CITYLIVING.jpg :) flyin_higher March 14th, 2005, 12:49 AM Ah yes, Bayleys always have cool pics on their property magazines. SkylineTurbo March 15th, 2005, 10:49 AM Bayswater Marina is cool Theres still the ferry service there isn't there? flyin_higher March 15th, 2005, 11:11 AM Yeah i' pretty sure there is, and I think they may be upgrading some of the facilities. Hey you changed your name? how come? aucklandman March 15th, 2005, 11:21 AM Yes it still is a ferry terminal. Not that heavily used though. Abit like the stanley bay ferrry. flyin is right it is gettin a makeover. Which is what it needs. atkinson1 March 15th, 2005, 10:52 PM They're in the process of upgrading the Birkenhead Ferry terminal too. They've demolished the Yachtspars building parrallell to the current pontoon, and you can see where they old car ferry ramps were. sam_L March 16th, 2005, 06:02 AM Speaking of ferry terminals, the downtown ferry terminal is making some progress. Externally stage 1 is basically finished. It's looking pretty good too. Not sure if it's full open yet though. Anyone know? I'm going into town on friday so i'll get some photos. SkylineTurbo March 16th, 2005, 10:12 AM Yeah i' pretty sure there is, and I think they may be upgrading some of the facilities. Hey you changed your name? how come? Thanks, anyway, blackadder seemed to be a bit old to me :D, I'll go and check maybe in the weekend to Bayswater Marina to check what's going on there currently. flyin_higher March 16th, 2005, 01:24 PM Fair enough! atkinson1 March 17th, 2005, 02:36 AM Hey I found this quite good aerial photo on Google. Here's the URL: http://www.florussen.com/images/Auckland.JPG flyin_higher March 17th, 2005, 03:04 AM Hey good find man, its a pretty awesome pic! Marky Mark March 17th, 2005, 03:31 AM :) Imagine with a few more such as Harbour residences and the Preceint apartments finished - Wow ! Marky Mark April 9th, 2005, 06:53 AM :) http://www.archoffice.co.nz/images/auckland1a.jpg flyin_higher April 9th, 2005, 09:50 AM wow, what a great view that is! All the way out east too, hey i can even see my old house. sam_L April 9th, 2005, 01:48 PM That's probably not far off the sort of view that the Burj Auckland would have from the top. Maybe that's a bit higher though. Very nice find, mark. aucklandman April 10th, 2005, 06:28 AM http://img190.exs.cx/img190/1086/dscn24318dz.jpg http://img190.exs.cx/img190/3103/dscn24360nq.jpg http://img190.exs.cx/img190/2276/dscn24386lp.jpg Some pretty cool buildings in auckland. I think the LOW-Rise alley on fanshawe is WIKED!!!! The new Vodafone building is amazing :okay: flyin_higher April 10th, 2005, 11:44 AM Finally someone has taken a pic of the new Vodafone building! Brilliant architecture. Yeah your right, there are some nice buildings in Auckland. And there's something about Fanshawe St that tells me if the council turned it into more of a boulevard type street, with trees lining it and less traffic lanes, etc, it could become outstanding. Marky Mark April 11th, 2005, 01:24 AM :)http://www.arnz.myhost.co.nz/ARTICLES_REVIEWS/NZAA/DOWNTOWN.htm http://www.arnz.myhost.co.nz/ARTICLES_REVIEWS/IMAGES/NZAA/SPECIAL/DOWNTOWN/SKYLINE3.jpg sam_L April 11th, 2005, 03:47 AM The vodafone building is looking really good. Very classy. And i agree with you about Fanshawe St, flyin. A tree lined boulevard would be awesome down there. That 3D model thing is pretty cool - Especially at night. Is it a Flight Sim thing or something? Marky Mark April 12th, 2005, 01:35 PM http://www.premium-realestate.co.nz/currentlymarketed/pics/1514/1.jpg flyin_higher April 12th, 2005, 01:50 PM Very cool! sam_L April 13th, 2005, 01:43 AM Very nice indeed. There have been some really nice sunsets the last few nights here. atkinson1 April 13th, 2005, 01:10 PM :)http://www.arnz.myhost.co.nz/ARTICLES_REVIEWS/NZAA/DOWNTOWN.htm http://www.arnz.myhost.co.nz/ARTICLES_REVIEWS/IMAGES/NZAA/SPECIAL/DOWNTOWN/SKYLINE3.jpg That is so awesome. I really want to create a complete 3D environment of the Auckland CBD in Maya but it would take ages and be quite hard. Those pics are funny with the ANZ tower and it's roof. sam_L April 14th, 2005, 01:42 AM Haha yeah. I'm part way there really. I've made 3d models of the skytower, vero, metropolis, west plaza and i'm working on a few others. I did them individually so they're too detailed to put into a single big scene like that though. atkinson1 April 14th, 2005, 03:16 AM Wow you're the man. Yeah it would be cool to have the whole thing mapped out in 3D. I'm sure the council and government would pay alot of money for that too. drflower April 14th, 2005, 09:14 AM Have you guys seen the Fale Pasifika building at the University of Auckland? I havn't taken any photos of it myself, but there's a couple here (http://www.alumni.auckland.ac.nz/3514.html). http://www.alumni.auckland.ac.nz/cms/images/ImagesAlumni//News%20and%20events/PhotoAlbum/Fale%20opening%20Oct%2004/Large/Fale_Oct04_05_lge.jpg http://www.alumni.auckland.ac.nz/cms/images/ImagesAlumni//News%20and%20events/PhotoAlbum/Fale%20opening%20Oct%2004/Large/Fale_Oct04_03_lge.jpg sam_L April 14th, 2005, 11:08 AM That thing looks pretty cool. Although i can't say i've ever even heard of it. atkinson1 April 17th, 2005, 01:07 PM Hey is that pacifika building at Auckland Uni real? I've never heard about it or seen it. It looks a bit fake in those pics so I thought it might have been an April Fools prank or something. aucklandman April 17th, 2005, 01:11 PM yea i agree drflower April 18th, 2005, 09:49 AM Yeah it's real!!! :) I went down to get a security pass one day at a place I'd never been to, and suddenly there's this crazy building there. It's wicked. If you still don't believe me, it's on Wynyard St (although it looks more like a driveway than a street). Off the top of my head I think it's 12 meters tall, making it the second biggest building of that type in the world. I'll see if I can take a photo of it some time. flyin_higher April 20th, 2005, 01:32 PM Auckland City from Bastion Point on Saturday evening: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v45/Flyin_higher/Auckland_trip_april050032.jpg The Skyline from a distance..30km out from Beachlands, where I used to live: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v45/Flyin_higher/Auckland_trip_april050039.jpg From the Auckland City Council building>> http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v45/Flyin_higher/Auckland_trip_april050030.jpg  aucklandman April 20th, 2005, 01:37 PM now after seeing those BEAUTIFUL pics who can complain about auckland? mtb_nz April 20th, 2005, 01:53 PM now after seeing those BEAUTIFUL pics who can complain about auckland? There are alot more where these came from: From the grounds of the Sugar Refinery near my house in North Shore City: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak4.jpg Pohutukawa in Birkenhead, North Shore City: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak5a.jpg Kohimaramara Beach, Auckland City: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak6a.jpg From the Cyril Bassett Lookout in Stanley Point, North Shore City: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak2.jpg Above the Stanley Bay Navy Base: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak3.jpg From Mt Victoria: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak1.jpg Inner City: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/ak8.jpg Marky Mark May 2nd, 2005, 01:41 PM Auckland is a real Lady :) rickster2k May 2nd, 2005, 03:42 PM Wow Tom, those pics are amazing - I love the 1st 3rd and 4th. That one of Auckland from Mt Victoria at sunset is stunning, i love the way the skyline is covered in that end of day type light. Is the skytower still using the Green/Red colour scheme? I presumed that was just for Christmas or something, i can remember it being in those colours when I was over in Auckland at the begining of December. Love to see some more photos! Has anyone got a chance to get the CBD from really far out, like the one posted earlier, on the way into Auckland on the main motorway (i think about 30kms out) where the skytower is all you can see like grey spike on the horizon. atkinson1 May 3rd, 2005, 03:10 AM Wow Tom, those pics are amazing - I love the 1st 3rd and 4th. That one of Auckland from Mt Victoria at sunset is stunning, i love the way the skyline is covered in that end of day type light. Thanks. That first one is taken at the grounds of the sugar factory which is about 5 minutes walk from my house. We go kayaking around there sometimes. It's really nice - there are little hidden beaches that aren't accessible by land. Is the skytower still using the Green/Red colour scheme? I presumed that was just for Christmas or something, i can remember it being in those colours when I was over in Auckland at the begining of December. I think the sky tower is all blue now. You can see in that pic of mine that it's green and pink but they're changing its colours all the time. sam_L May 3rd, 2005, 06:19 AM Some of those pics are UPC quality tom. Especially the ones from Stanley Bay and the Chelsea factory grounds. rickster2k May 3rd, 2005, 11:48 PM I though the green/red skytower theme was just for Christmas! I still reckon a shot from Drury way would be fantastic, with the faintness of the CBD, someone should get a chance to go out there. Btw; where is the gas/coal power station you pass on the main motorway into Auckland, i remember passing it (big place with lots of chimneys/towers), its right by the motorway on the approach from the South. KIWIKAAS May 4th, 2005, 12:10 AM I though the green/red skytower theme was just for Christmas! Its the power station at East Tamaki. It apears alot in the background in the film ''Once were warriors''. aucklandman May 4th, 2005, 07:22 AM The sky tower was weirdly colored red and green over easter. Usually this is only over christmas. The sky tower is all blue now cause Sky City is a majour sponsor of the Auckland Blues most ppl prolly have guessed that :) GO THE BLUES!!!! rickster2k May 5th, 2005, 10:51 PM Kiwikass, i remember that power station on the drive in, it's quite impossing! I think i mentioned this before, but I found the drive into Auckland quite strange; you go from the rolling green hills and countryside of the Waikato and then 'bang' you hit the main motorway and the pylons and gradually the lush green farmland becomes houses and suburbs. For me it's like coming into Birmingham, UK from the north, very much rural land and then you run parallel with all the pylons and railway lines and gradually get into the sprawl. I think it was about 30-40kms from the outskirts (Drury area) to the centre, 40kms of urban sprawl. Seeing the skytower from that far out was very cool thou, just that tiny grey spike, couldn't make out any other buildings, i think maybe the Vero Centre, but the skytower was just so prominent. atkinson1 May 6th, 2005, 02:14 AM Yeah I saw it like that when I drove back from Whakatane last Sunday. It's just like a tiny blade of grass on the horizon lol. sam_L May 6th, 2005, 03:42 AM You can see the Skytower from the west side of the Coromadel... It looks cool at night from there because you can see the glow of the whole CBD. atkinson1 May 6th, 2005, 04:02 AM You can see the Skytower from the west side of the Coromadel... It looks cool at night from there because you can see the glow of the whole CBD. Now that is cool. flyin_higher May 6th, 2005, 10:51 AM Yea, that is pretty substantial, I didn't think it would have been seen that far, that's like nearly 100km away?! sam_L May 6th, 2005, 11:20 AM No the east coromandel coast is about 50kms from downtown i think. It just takes so long to drive there because you have to go south around the firth of thames and ggo back up. They've always wanted to start a car ferry service that goes straight across the gulf though. atkinson1 May 6th, 2005, 02:25 PM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/lounge.jpg mtb_nz May 6th, 2005, 02:33 PM ^^ where was that pic taken from atkinson1 aucklandman May 6th, 2005, 02:35 PM lol one guess........ unbeatable! atkinson1 May 6th, 2005, 02:40 PM ^^ where was that pic taken from atkinson1 My lounge LOL sam_L May 7th, 2005, 12:53 AM Hahaha you're probably there enough to claim that.. The view actually looks better from there than i thought. I'm visiting next time i'm in town. atkinson1 May 7th, 2005, 07:49 AM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/vero.jpg Malt May 7th, 2005, 08:00 AM Auckland has heaps of awesome spots to take pics from, judgting by toms set of pics on page 10 atkinson1 May 7th, 2005, 08:02 AM Thanks Malt. Yeah there are some good spots around the city. The view actually looks better from there than i thought. I'm visiting next time i'm in town. Yeah the views are pretty hot. It's more fun than going up the Sky Tower in my opinion. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/an4.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/an3.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/an2.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/an1.jpg sam_L May 7th, 2005, 09:24 AM Beaut pics! Looks like it's a hidden gem. Have you seen anyone else up there? Ever? atkinson1 May 7th, 2005, 09:50 AM Yes once I saw a young mother up there with her toddler. But that's about it. I feel like it's mine when I go there because there's never anyone up there. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/nightcity.jpg SYDNEY May 7th, 2005, 10:04 AM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/lounge.jpg Gr8 pics but that furniture - a homosexuals worst nightmare :eek2: I am going to see them, they need an Interior Designer's touch ;) sam_L May 7th, 2005, 10:09 AM Great to see you're back to your photo posting ways! atkinson1 May 7th, 2005, 10:17 AM Gr8 pics but that furniture - a homosexuals worst nightmare Those chairs are the best up there lol. The funny chairs are the airport terminal seats lol. The whole place wreaks of the '80s which is quite nice. From the old coin-operated turnstyle to the backlit-photo sign boards to the dome-covered security cameras to the underground foodcourt. Great to see you're back to your photo posting ways! Yep I'm back. That night one (above) was taken about 20 mins ago. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/park.jpg SYDNEY May 7th, 2005, 10:43 AM Those chairs are the best up there lol. The funny chairs are the airport terminal seats lol. The whole place wreaks of the '80s which is quite nice. From the old coin-operated turnstyle to the backlit-photo sign boards to the dome-covered security cameras to the underground foodcourt They are my fave colour as well - green :puke: It reminds me of Eugene Terreblanche's green, holey underpants (from the AWB) ... atkinson1 May 11th, 2005, 06:55 AM East Downtown: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/aklnight.jpg East Uptown: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/eastuptown.jpg sam_L May 11th, 2005, 07:04 AM Do they have a heigh restriction in uptown or something? Because you don't tend to get anything over 15 floors. It's getting pretty dense up there though. atkinson1 May 11th, 2005, 07:06 AM I don't think so because you do get things there that are about 20 floors. For example that little cluster around the Oracle tower are all like 18 floors. But you don't get much higher than that. atkinson1 May 12th, 2005, 12:14 AM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/auckland011.jpg aucklandman May 12th, 2005, 05:40 AM amazing....is that taken from around where u live? atkinson1 May 12th, 2005, 05:56 AM Yeah it's taken from Birkenhead. I live near Little Shoal Bay and Birkenhead Wharf. flyin_higher May 12th, 2005, 11:57 AM "The Suburban Contrast" atkinson1 May 12th, 2005, 12:17 PM Good title! flyin_higher May 12th, 2005, 12:30 PM Cheers man. You have my permission to use it if u want when u have a photo display at the art gallery;) atkinson1 May 14th, 2005, 03:36 PM Here are some old photos I took on film a few years ago before the digital camera came along. It was so refreshing to find this packet of old photos and relive the memory of going up the BNZ tower for the first time. Film is a nice medium. On with the show Jimmy. . . http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/oldpic.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/oldpic2.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/oldpic3.jpg flyin_higher May 14th, 2005, 03:47 PM Film is good. But digital is better, lol, for now anyway. sam_L May 14th, 2005, 03:59 PM The first reminds me of my avatar. Yeah film does have something unique about it that you can never get on a digital. rickster2k May 14th, 2005, 04:19 PM Film beats digital hands down, its just than digital is far more convenient. flyin_higher May 14th, 2005, 04:24 PM Yeah that is what i was referring to also, its convienience and efficiency atkinson1 May 15th, 2005, 03:51 AM Yeah film is awesome for proper work, but can't beat digital for the forums. I can take a pic and have it online in like a minute. I wouldn't mind having a Canon 1Ds Mark II but I don't have a spare $16,000 lying around. atkinson1 May 17th, 2005, 02:22 AM I took this over a year ago: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/seating.jpg sam_L May 17th, 2005, 02:37 AM Very nice. Never seen those panton chairs up there... that's the level below the main observation deck is it not? I haven't been up there for ages. If we ever have a kiwiscrapers meet it will have to start from the Skytower i think. flyin_higher May 17th, 2005, 03:33 AM A kiwiscrapers meet would be rather interesting sam_L May 17th, 2005, 06:15 AM http://img29.echo.cx/img29/5450/winterwaitemata2xv.jpg aucklandman May 17th, 2005, 06:43 AM when did u take that its real cool with all the cloud movementy things  yes a ks meet would be cool well have dinner at the orbit lol  OMG THAT IS THE FUNNIEST EMOTICON EVER!!!! atkinson1 May 17th, 2005, 07:10 AM Awesome pano man. Yes a mighty storm this morning only about 4 people turned up to uni LOL. Yeah I took that one a few days ago. Marky Mark May 17th, 2005, 08:54 AM Any Autumn Shots ? love the colours or have they all Gone ! :) sam_L May 18th, 2005, 04:56 AM There's still some autumn colours around but i don't think i have any shots sorry. I saw the skyline immersed in cloud when I drove over the bridge. Taken from Mt Albert near uni? aucklandman May 18th, 2005, 07:26 AM BLOODY FANTASIC PICS!!! flyin_higher May 18th, 2005, 10:59 AM Thats a very good pano there Sam, top stuff! atkinson1 May 19th, 2005, 04:13 AM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/quayst.jpg KingKong1 May 19th, 2005, 04:36 AM awesome pic atkinson, is that the new sports arena i can see under construction, looks like a mini auckland bridge span. I know this road quite well i got a $400 fine for driving my gsr with passengers on a restricted licence along there back in 2002! haha i ended up getting 3 of them that year! didn't bother me tho i was young, reckless and earning shitloads back then, now im a poor student. atkinson1 May 19th, 2005, 05:29 AM Yeah Cops love to get people on Quay Street. And yeah that's the arena. I'll post a better pic of it soon. atkinson1 May 19th, 2005, 06:07 AM Any Autumn Shots ? love the colours or have they all Gone ! :) Here are those colours you wanted! Some pictures from this afternoon. It's from that new angle I was telling you about Marky - the one I said had some potential lol. What's with you and parnell lately :p atkinson1 May 19th, 2005, 10:00 AM It's an angle we havn't really covered yet. It still has alot of potential. This is an interesting shot, with the east-uptown skyline in the background. Not very sharp though, and the subject is quite bland apart from the skyscrapers lol. The building at the right of the shot was based on the Flatiron Centre. It's the same shape only smaller. http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/streetinparnell.jpg SYDNEY May 19th, 2005, 09:39 PM FAB pics - now I can't wait to get to Auckland. I am also amazed at how many cranes there are - does anybody know how many buildings are under construction in the CBD area ? atkinson1 May 20th, 2005, 07:53 AM Thanks. Yeah there are alot of cranes. Here's a pano that is about 6 months old. It has been compressed to the days in order to fit within Photobucket's 250K limit: http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/maddest1234567.jpg Barsby May 20th, 2005, 07:57 AM great pics tom, cant get over how green NZ is, send some of that rain over the tasman! kota16 May 20th, 2005, 11:06 AM Auckland is on a par with Sydney and Brisbane for natural beauty.Well done Kiwis! and thanks a bunch Tom. mic May 20th, 2005, 11:36 AM my god...soooo luch over there in Auckland! A nice calm city Auckland is, and looks semi-mature for a city of its size compared to Adelaide. atkinson1 May 20th, 2005, 04:55 PM http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/me01.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/me04.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/me05.jpg http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y197/atkinson1/kohi.jpg sam_L May 21st, 2005, 02:31 AM Couldn't have been a better day go to up Mt Eden. sam_L May 24th, 2005, 01:20 PM Vodafone Building almost finished: http://img270.echo.cx/img270/5178/vodafonebuilding245057hb.jpg I'm thinking of printing this one as a poster and putting it on my wall (i'm not sure what it is with me and panorama shots lately). http://img283.echo.cx/img283/2111/citypanosmall3wn.jpg flyin_higher May 25th, 2005, 02:56 AM The Vodafone bldg is looking very nice! I thought you have photoshopped it over your photo Sam!!!!! But to see it there was so funny, I was cracking up. sam_L May 30th, 2005, 05:10 AM Lol! I was thinking people would have thought i photoshopped it but it's actually a sculpture. I like it: http://img275.echo.cx/img275/3141/thewatchman5jb.jpg aucklandman May 30th, 2005, 05:20 AM there is another one of those men on the esmonde rd/lake rd intersection stuck on the traffic light post (the one with the security camera on it) sam_L May 30th, 2005, 05:51 AM Maybe it's some sort of cult symbol. aucklandman May 30th, 2005, 07:17 AM for those of you who have access to sky digital go to channel 915 its an addidas marketing campaign for last man standing like the ad with the all blacks and lions that was on last night at 6.50 on one. atkinson1 May 30th, 2005, 08:39 AM Well I'm very very annoyed that its a marketing campaign. However I'd rather that, than a cult symbol. I rekon I saw a giant cult symbol on top of Mt Roskill once. Anyway I would have loved to think that this thing was just some kind of joke that someone put there or a work of art. That's such an awesome photo by the way. So good with the seagull in the foreground. sam_L May 30th, 2005, 09:30 AM Oh man i'm so dissapointed. I don't like it much anymore... I was hoping that too, Tom - I thought that some random person just put it up there. atkinson1 May 30th, 2005, 10:53 AM Lol! It has something to do with rugby because on sunday night there was like a 3min ad with the last man standing. Its addidas new campaign. They put it up for christian holidays like christmas and easter and it lights up at night. atkinson1 May 31st, 2005, 07:34 AM Awesome pictures bro. Very atmospheric. Yeah those first pictures were taken from near the Michael Joseph Savage Memorial. Blah May 31st, 2005, 08:05 AM Those are some excellent photos, Tom. Do you take photography at uni? Because if you dont you should! You have a good eye. atkinson1 May 31st, 2005, 12:30 PM No I'm majoring in Media Design. Photography was a major I could have chosen but I wanted to do work that was much more broad in terms of media. I'd love an excuse to buy a DSLR though lol. SYDNEY May 31st, 2005, 11:11 PM This pic is my absolute favourite - http://www.language-programs.de/sprachkurseneuseeland/sprachschulenneuseeland/crown/lage.jpg Just add in a few sheep and it will be New Zealand's national postcard. Where was this pic taken from ?, I would love to go there and take some snaps. atkinson1 May 31st, 2005, 11:40 PM It was taken from near the Michael Joseph Savage memorial, out east off Tamaki Drive. It's all Maori land up there I think - there's a marae etc. I might go there and get some better pics sometime. Rear shot of Scene One: http://img229.echo.cx/img229/3417/scene160514ba.jpg The pattern on the end wall of Scene One looks very effective. These would have to be the best looking new apartments in Auckland i think. aucklandman June 2nd, 2005, 06:44 AM from certain angles people would not agree when coming down Anzac Ave that is probably the worst angle. The shots you took make it look very very nice! flyin_higher June 2nd, 2005, 06:49 AM They are very 'Modernist', which I usually hate, but these buildings have gone the extra mile to make them a bit mroe interesting, re; the colours, etc. I have to disagree here about those side wall patterns on Scene 1 though, they look rather silly and quite tacky. Blah June 2nd, 2005, 09:41 AM What a waste of space. Why not stick all three on top of each other and have a decent sized apartment building, rather than taking up valuable land from a future 500 metre superscraper which i plan to build when i make my first billion?? Marky Mark June 2nd, 2005, 09:54 AM What a waste of space. Why not stick all three on top of each other and have a decent sized apartment building, rather than taking up valuable land from a future 500 metre superscraper which i plan to build when i make my first billion?? I read some where that the Developers of these Scene Apartments originally wanted to built 2-3 , 38 level Towers however weren't allowed to ! Now Residents in various Apartment Towers behind the Scene Apartments are complaining that the Scene Apartments are too Fat and Blocking their Views , 2-3 tall thin Towers wouldt have prevented that , maybe it was an overshadowing Factor ? :) mtb_nz June 2nd, 2005, 01:09 PM I read some where that the Developers of these Scene Apartments originally wanted to built 2-3 , 38 level Towers however weren't allowed to ! Why not stick all three on top of each other and have a decent sized apartment building, rather than taking up valuable land from a future 500 metre superscraper which i plan to build when i make my first billion?? sounds awesome there dude... Well when i make my first billion $$$$ I will build a 700 metre superscraper :runaway: KIWIKAAS June 2nd, 2005, 03:46 PM They look like something from 1960s Thunderbirds or Stingray. sam_L June 3rd, 2005, 01:45 AM Thunderbird Two could be launched up the slot through the middle of the building. atkinson1 June 3rd, 2005, 10:42 PM Here's an old photo I took on the 22nd of March. KingKong1 June 4th, 2005, 12:53 AM Scene apartments are a blotch on the the auckland waterfront, urban planning at its worst! flyin_higher June 4th, 2005, 01:12 AM Quite so. For once it seems that you and I agree on something. atkinson1 June 4th, 2005, 01:15 AM You've got to wonder what these people are thinking some of the time. sam_L June 4th, 2005, 02:04 AM I reacon Thunderbird 1. F.A.B. ? Yes possibly. Thunderbird Two can be lauched from a flip-down section of the facade. SYDNEY June 7th, 2005, 10:21 PM ALRIGHT ! Own up - which one of you sabotaged "the haka man" ? I know that it wasn't everybody's favourite piece of "art" .... mmmm ... let's see. Who owns a kayak and has admitted to visiting the site ? ;) http://media.apn.co.nz/webcontent/image/jpg/08haka.JPG A large statue of a crouching figure, part of a campaign to promote the All Blacks during the Lions' tour, has been toppled on Watchman Island in the upper Auckland harbour by saboteurs who claimed the sculpture was culturally insensitive. The 6m steel figure, which appears to be doing a haka, was erected by adidas as part of a "mysterious campaign" to support the All Blacks. Adidas marketing manager Craig Waugh said the "icon" was deliberately toppled on Monday night, about a fortnight after it was put up. "It was pretty calm last night so it certainly hasn't blown over or anything. "It was tampered with ... people would've had to get a boat out there." An anonymous caller had told Television New Zealand that the figure had been tampered with because it was culturally insensitive, Mr Waugh said. TVNZ then contacted adidas. The statue had been badly damaged and while it could be resurrected, no decision had been made yet. Mr Waugh said the company was still deciding whether to take the matter to police. The damage was annoying as the statue had cost about $15,000 to build and erect. Many parties had been consulted beforehand, including local iwi Ngati Whatua, the Department of Conservation, Auckland City Council and the Ports of Auckland. Adidas and the New Zealand Rugby Union are launching their Lions tour campaign at Sky City tomorrow night, when the significance of the icons put up at nine locations round the country will be revealed. They included two 50m weedmats, one on the Canterbury plains and one in Queenstown. Seven-metre statues were put up in Dunedin's Octagon, the Christchurch Square, Invercargill, Taupo and at Te Papa. A 12.5m image was erected on State Highway 2 on the way to Rotorua. Mr Waugh said none of the other icons had been tampered with except the statue in Taupo, where an appendage had been added. It had since been removed. He said adidas was being deliberately vague about the significance of the icons but confirmed they were "about the tour" and the company had been working with the Rugby Union. Watchman Island sits just west of the southern end of the Auckland Harbour Bridge. *********************************** "Mr Waugh said none of the other icons had been tampered with except the statue in Taupo, where an appendage had been added. It had since been removed." I think that I can guess what kind of "appendage" was added :) aucklandman June 7th, 2005, 11:00 PM What type of fucking idiot did that? KingKong1 June 8th, 2005, 02:55 AM Fuckn maori activists i bet, just like when they cut down the tree on One Tree Hill and smashed the America's Cup, fuckn scum they are. sam_L June 8th, 2005, 03:37 AM I think it's more likely going to be an anti-corporation protest. I do think it's stupid though that a Adidas can use what has become a bit of a natural landmark to advertise themselves. I bet that bloody stag did it ;) flyin_higher June 8th, 2005, 03:41 AM "fucken scum"? I'm sure there are some of them who think the same about us, lol. If you realised the shit we have given the Maori since the treaty was signed, then you might realsie that they may possibly have every inclination to do that. atkinson1 June 8th, 2005, 07:41 AM Yeah I drove across the bridge this morning hoping to see it, and saw the crumpled mess. KingKong1 June 8th, 2005, 12:04 PM they better put it back up, it could be a bad omen for the all blacks! SYDNEY June 8th, 2005, 04:27 PM ^^^ NO !! don't say that .. I have money on the All Blacks and I have taken a bet with my bf, if he wins I am in alot of trouble ;) flyin_higher June 9th, 2005, 07:39 AM The Greenpeace vessel, the Rainbow Warrior II in dock at Auckland http://www.greenpeace.gen.nz/albums/Rainbow-Warrior/IMG_7525_rw_auckland.sized.jpg (c) Greenpeace / Dave Walsh sam_L June 9th, 2005, 07:58 AM That's a nice pic.
