Bigger then the Villa. Bigger then Chelsea. Bigger then my mouth when I saw the plans! So excited by this. Wolves really are going somewhere. And to think it didnt bid for the world cup.

I'll post more pictures later. The inside looks stunning.

WOLVES UNVEIL EXCITING PLANS FOR 50,000+ STADIUM

Wolves have unveiled exciting plans for a £40million redevelopment of Molineux which would take its capacity to 36,000 in time for the start of the 2014/15 season.

The project, which will be submitted for local authority approval in late July, was made public to local residents for the first time on Thursday night as part of a consultation meeting.

The club's vision comprises of four phases, although planning permission will only initially be sought for the first three phases.

Chief executive Jez Moxey said: "These plans represent an exciting vision for the redevelopment of Molineux, which our chairman Steve Morgan had when he first acquired the club in 2007.

"His commitment to Wolves and his investment has helped us develop both on and off the field, culminating in the team retaining its Premier League status for the coming season."

Phase one is scheduled to start with the demolition of the Stan Cullis Stand at the end of the forthcoming season, with a state-of-the art two-tier structure constructed that extends into the open corner of the Steve Bull Stand - starting a stadium bowl design.

Phase two will then see a new two-tier Steve Bull Stand built over the course of the 2012/13 and 2013/14 seasons in time for the start of 2014/15 - taking Molineux's capacity from 29,303 to 36,000.

Phases three and four respectively, which are subject to supporter demand and not included in the £40m figure, would see the Jack Harris Stand regenerated to match the first two stands and take capacity to around 38,000.

With early plans also drafted to possibly redevelop the Billy Wright Stand to take the figure up to 50,000.

Importantly, Moxey insists the money set aside for the initial stage of the plans is ring-fenced and will not affect manager Mick McCarthy's transfer budget as he looks to keep Wolves in the Barclays Premier League.

Moxey went on to stress the club's focus remains "all about the football" and firmly on building a squad capable of keeping the Black Country club in the top flight.

Capacity will naturally decrease while the proposed building work is undertaken, with plans being drawn up to cater for fans being moving around, but all other options in relation to building a new stadium and relocating elsewhere were exhausted.

And, with Wanderers having recently been granted a 999-year lease for Molineux from Wolverhampton City Council, chairman Morgan is determined to build a stadium that not only increases revenue but improves facilities and the overall matchday experience for supporters - with fans being brought as close as possible to the pitch to create an intimidating atmosphere.

Wow, that's impressive. I like that.

Not sure about 50k though Eco - it sounds good, but I doubt you'll ever get there. Well not in the next 15-20years I wouldn't have thought.
Wolves have a great fanbase, and are traditionally a big big club, but I think the 36-38k plans will be perfect for you.

Well fingers crossed we continue going forward like we are. Debt free. Well run. 38k will be a good size for us but should 2015/16 come and we have progressed further and we still maintain a capacity average of 99.4%. Moxey has stated they will roll out a planning application for the increase to 50,000 during the period of Phases 1-3 construction so it would be a continual development. so lets hope Wolves keep thriving.

Need to invest some quality on the pitch now.

Looks awesome! £40 million seems a bit cheap to me though, even for just 8000 extra seats. Are the renders that of the 36,000 or 50,000 stadium? Pity you have to wait until 2012 for it to commence though.

Its a minimum of £40m Thats for phases 1, 2 & 3. Phase 4 would be another considerable amount. Phase 3 is basically stripping the roof off and adding another tier. the main work is Phase 1, 2 and 4.

Oh and construction starts May 2011. not 2012 :) .. .end of next season for 4 years. capacity will go down to 24,000. then 21.000.

Two questions:

1. 50K +? I haven't seen any suggestion that there will be further expansion beyond 50K. In fact, the initial plans are only to take capacity to 36K. Further expansion to 38K and then 50K is dependent on demand.

2. Was there really a need to start a new thread? There's a perfectly good Molineux thread only three threads below this one on the Cultural and Sporting Venues main page, which you posted in only yesterday! It's quite possible to change the thread title of the old thread to take into account the new headline capacity figure. Perhaps a mod should merge the two threads?

Interesting.

Don't like the fact that one side isn't one solid bank. Seem's a bit samey..

How are Wolves gonna get 50k in?

Pretty easy for the big games.

Plus the plans for the club as a whole are considerable. £30 a ticket. even if we only manage 40k for 10 gaames of the season but get 50k in for 8 games of the season ... thats £2.4m extra in ticket sales alone a year.

Lets say we average 45,000 a game over 18 games plus 4 in cup on average.

22,000 season tickets at £600. Thats £13,200,000 in season tickets.

23,000 x 22 x £30 thats £15,180,000

£28m for a year in ticket sales. Thats what Wolves need to even challenge the smaller big boys.

Currently we take in half of that. It'll be worth the investment.

It reminds me of the Westfalenstadion, which is my favourite ground in the world. I hope this gets built!

In simpler terms - what I should have wrote to begin with tbh - There's no kop, its 2 tiers all the way around.

Go wolves.

Tell you what, Wolves and Norwich City, both 40,000 seater stadiums, consistently battling for 1st and 2nd in the Premier League every season, Champions League Finalists every season, occaisional friendlies with Liverpool/Man U/Chelsea/Arsenal to keep them afloat all by 2020.

Sounds fair? Then its agreed.

Techniclly there is. The south Bank. The only thing happening to the stand is the roof being removed and an extra being added. Its not being demolished and boxes aren't being installed. You would have a small indent to support this though but fans will still be in a constant flow. Plus as Moxey has said. there are still tweeks to be made. The South Bank is one Morgan and Moxey want to utilise to its best considering its reputation. And as Morgan is a Liverpool fan himself  you can bet your bottom dollar he wants the South Bank to be as poor man fan friendly as can be because on match days. That place is rocking. :)

And Andrew. I woudl do amything for someone to invest some good money into Norwich City and see them build a stadium worth of the support. One things thats more evident then anything over the last few seasons is how loyal you guys are. despite your moans here and there. still turn up week in week out.

Loving the new Molineux the exterior is brilliant and I like the interior, hopefully the South Bank is a genuine Kop because that would make for one brilliant and for once original stadium.

Phases 1&2 look good, but I don't understand phase 3.

According to the figures phase 3 will add only 2,000 seats, but from the render, the top tier is about the same size as the bottom tier, I'm not a Wolves fan, but surely the existing South Stand holds way more than 2,000?

Are there any renders as to how the stadium will look after the completion of phase 2?
I am assuming that phase 2 involves the completion of the South West corner, but if you were in the top tier of the SW corner, all you would see would be a view of the South stand roof.

Looks good though, would be amazing if/when fully complete.

Good point. The current South Bank has around 5,000 seats.

By zooming into the visuals, it appears that the Steve Bull upper will have around 20 rows of seats, presumably this will be the case for the end stands too.

The current South Bank has about 40 rows of seats, so double that of the new Steve Bull upper. It also has around 140 columns of seats.

Therefore, 20 (rows) x 140 (columns) = 2,800 seats, minus the exits, plus taking into consideration that the new seats will probably be more spacious and 2,000 makes sense. They are most likely rounding the capacity figures up and down too.

One thing I've just noticed that I don't like is the position of the exits for the 2 new stands.

Think this is a brilliant move by Wolves. Can't believe (well no actually I can) the Liverpool board faught so hard to keep Morgan away from a Liverpool takeover and went for hinge and bracket instead. One thing Morgan knows how to do is build. Good luck to Wolves on your journey to a better World.
