Construction of 250-metre-tall Twin Towers kicks off in Xiamen

The construction of the Twin Towers, which will be the tallest building in Xiamen, started on 28th May. The project is expected to be completed by October 2015, reports Xiamen Daily.

The Twin Towers, also called Xiamen Shimao Cross-strait Plaza, was invested by Shanghai Shimao Group with a huge investment of 5 billion yuan. The Twin Towers, designed to be 250 metres tall, lies west of Nanputuo Temple and Xiamen University, north of Yanwu Bridge, east to Gulangyu Island and south of Xiamen Botanic Garden.

The windsurfer-like buildings will cover an area of about 30,000 square metres. One will be a comprehensive building for five star hotels and high-end offices, while the other will be the SOHO office building. The podium building blocks will be a comprehensive commercial complex integrating shopping, recreation, entertainment and catering.

The Twin Towers, once completed, will be a new landmark building in Xiamen.

those twin tower may dominate the skyline and are really nice for a not-that-extreme-giant city

Architect is Atkins Shenzhen. Atkins Shenzhen finished the concept design at April 2010

Well, I wish it was real, and the final height has been raised 5m, but it's very unlikely. Shimao is a very unreliable developer concerning heights, they are a bunch of huge liars, they love to announce fake heights.

Shenyang project: They announced 2x300m, now we know they are 2x285m.
Fuzhou project: They announced 1x300m, now we know it has 273m.
Shaoxing: they wallpapered the plot with stunning renders showing a 350m~ tower. Now they are building an average 280m tower with a simple design.
Etc, etc.

Shimao projects are amazing, but they lie too much.

z0rg as my polish mother would say - wish you having just these kind of troubles.

5m doesn't make much of a difference visually. i don't mind this being 5m short. It is a nice design nontheless. :cheers:
