Can a simcity exper help me? I'm trying to build a mega city so i'm zoning heavy density for everything.
My problem is although skyscrapers (20, 30 floors) do get built in residential zones, a lot of them get abandonned due to long commute time.
I can't figure this out - i have an extremely extensive subway system, I put bus stops in a huge amount of places, and i have good highways, and wide roads and whenever my advisor says a road is clogged i always expand it to an avenue or two one way roads.
Yet buildings continue to get abandoned because of long commute times still happen. can someone help me out?

go to Simtropolis.com and downlaod a mod called 'network addon mod' it will decerease commute times by 10 and also give you new highway interhacnge, overpasses for anything over anything i.e. road over road, av over av, av over road etc. these can help to reduce commute times.
-note , always search before you post a new thread for help in simtropolis.

:bash: Yup! It gets frustrating for awhile. I've recently experienced this kind of problem before and I've found some ways to solve it (but don't take my word for it!)
1. Try not to have too many intersections because as cars traverse, they sometimes cause bottlenecks ---> which, cause longer commute time. Try placing roundabouts or one-way roads.
2. Probably their workplaces are out of reach. Try placing commercial offices, preferabbly near the abandoned buildings.
3. Maybe there's not enough jobs to support the population ---> build offices or industries if you must.
4. Enact the carpool ordinance on the budget sheet thing. That should, at least, minimize the traffic a bit.
5. I'm not sure if you've done this already, but try to make neighbor connections so commuters can get to work.
6. Lalalala...
