thank you for the great infors London
but. tower palace is not "ALL" residential?

It is about 95% residential because of the retail shops. Other towers like 21st Century Tower, Triumph Palace, and Mokdong Hyperion are also not all residential. (Though Emporis still consider any building with more than 90% of its space being used for residential purpose as a all-residential skyscraper.) :)

Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

This project is equivalent to most Amercan downtowns by itself!

When I get to visit Busan to spent summer, I might as well take some pics of the construction sites. :)

Horror. Looks like a high-rise suburb. A walled city. The architectural content is zero. Even in China the new deveopments (recent photos from Chongking) look much more interesting. In the last 20 years, despite rising incomes, Korea has made no progress in residential architecture...

Impressive, though, in a 1980s China kind of way, and nice photos! Could someone show this to me in a larger context, so I can figure out where in Pusan this is? I have an idea map-wise, but that only gets me so far.

Well, here's a rough sketch...

And here's a pano of the region that was taken about two years ago. It's the left side of the empty lot.

제가 보기에는 단지 안타까워서 그러신 거 같은데요? 굳이 과민반응해서 문제 일으킬 것 까지는 아닌 것 같습니다 :)

First of all...

Dear, don't get so defensive.

I didn't say it was a suburb, I said it was like a suburb. A kind of sprawl, but vertical, not horizontal.

From the photos, this development seems completely unintegrated with the rest of the urban fabric of the city. It reminds me of Union Square in HK, which looks good from a distance but is terrible up front.

I lived in Pusan for a year (in Tongnae) in 1998. I also lived in Seoul for six months... so I have a little familiarity with Korean architecture. I've also lived in Tokyo, and travelled extensively in China and around HK. I was in Seoul and HK again last year. Surprised? :) And have you been to Europe, the land of people-friendly cities?

By the way, what is happening at Seomeyon rotary? I thought this had the potential to become the real center of Pusan...

PS: Thanks for the pano! I know exactly where this is! I used to walk down that street to Haeundae, wondering at the wonderful subway construction (line #2) all along there... but I think the subway is a bit south of there, because it cuts across the river into Kwang-an-li? I can't believe this development doesn't have a subway station, though??

There's a subway station not that far from the development - Centum City, which is a few blocks away from the development. I don't know if the government will constuct a branch for the development itself though. Yeah, the subway cuts across the mouth of Suyong River, near Gwangan-li.

About Seomyun Rotary, you've got it right. It's now the biggest CBD of the city, including the current tallest skyscraper in the city - Lotte World. I'll post some pics of the region later on.

OK! Of course I know Lotte World, I meant more the rotary itself...

As I remember, the site of Centrum City used to be a container port?

Most locals consider Seomyun as the centre of Busan anyways.. The site of Centum City was formerly used as a landing strip. (Suyong Aerodrome)

It was quite fast considering that they built 20 53/43 story tall skyscrapers in a year and a half. :)
