SeeMacau May 27th, 2010, 06:24 AM I spot this building (very close to my place) last night at Norodom Boulevard.
Glad to see many mid-rise office buildings (8 to 12 floors) are popping up along the Norodom Boulevard.
Unfortunately the sky was too dark last night and I cannot take any more photos.

Was it built in 1912? I don't remember that far back. The new thing about this is that it got million of dollars make-over to make itself up to date. But, I agree that the title is not so correctly written. Maybe, we should move this to Sihanoukville thread.
kvaaa June 30th, 2012, 04:05 PM I don't know the date, but it is safe to say that it was completed longggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg time ago!
AsianDragons June 30th, 2012, 04:25 PM i posted because you guys were complaining there was no update, i did spend 8 hours and posted 50 times, i would like it if you guys appreciate it :)

i have to handle being a mod with a lot nuisance and everything but i dont mind that but i do mind that you guys dont appreciate that visit this site everyday, even now during exam time please make me appreciated :)
kvaaa June 30th, 2012, 05:25 PM We understand your situation. Everything you do is appreciated and it only enhances the site. You can only do so much from 6000 km away. Those living inside the country can only do so much due to their family or other obligations. The things most of us want to see is the progress being made. Things such as progress on Neakloeung Bridge, Second Chroy Changvar Bridge, hydro dam constructioin and so on and thus giving hopes to the country. These progress enhance economic potentials. These are just my preferences.

You don't deserve the present government. You deserve Pol Pot regime.
You have been asking for one and you might get it if you persist.

I thought that the present ruling party was the derivative, or at least part, of the Khmer Rouge party.
Don't tell me this government would be come like the Khmer Rouge one. It is much better because it does not directly kill people, but only makes the poor poorer and the rich richer.

Of course, to me, there is nothing wrong with your posts here, and what you have done is much appreciated personally by me. In fact, I am happy to see you bring this up because you have shown all images and angles from Cambodia old and new. Some people don't appreciate what Cambodia in the 60s had because the government was different.

AsianDragons July 1st, 2012, 07:09 AM heres the other reason, would you guys appreciate it if we create a database of existing buildings for non-khmer people to see, or would you prefer i not post them because theyre old ???
AsianDragons July 1st, 2012, 07:41 AM ^^ just the bigger, taller or more interesting ones
mrfusion July 1st, 2012, 08:48 AM how do you put a database in SCC?
mrfusion July 1st, 2012, 08:51 AM You might have a new subthread for existing historical building, instead of Complete, you write "Complete in 1992" or something similar. But again, these sort of thread will very little contribution.

KINGD March 20th, 2013, 07:15 AM my question is if all these buildings getting made can khmer even afford them? I mean half khmer can and the other half lives in poverty, so you going have alot of empty vacants. Unless Cambodia has credit systems for buyers. I would love to buy a condo, or beach house. Any info will be appreciated.
SeeMacau March 20th, 2013, 08:38 AM Hi KINGD, welcome to the forum :)
The mid-rise and low-rise buildings in most of the above pictures are service apartments catering the expats

Developer Hongkong Land has launched Central Mansions, a newly rebranded collection of serviced apartments and penthouses, in the heart of Phnom Penh’s commercial district, just to the north of Vattanac Tower.
The refurbished Central Mansions, which was previously known as Colonial Mansions, will offer 101 serviced apartments in two towers, with five luxury penthouses.
Leading members of the business community attended the launch event and Mr Y K Pang, chief executive of Hongkong Land, officiated at the ceremony.
Addressing guests at the ceremony, Pang said, “Hongkong Land is proud to make its mark here in the heart of Phnom Penh’s commercial district in line with our strategy of developing prestige properties in the cities where we invest. We believe the Cambodian property market offers significant opportunities which will attract long-term institutional capital and international occupiers.”
Central Mansions is Hongkong Land’s first project since the company entered the Phnom Penh market in November 2011 with the purchase of a portfolio of properties. In 2011 the company paid $33.65 million for the portfolio of properties, and it has spent an additional $4.6 million on the refurbishment of the 12-year-old building.
The renovations began in June 2012 and it will not be fully completed until August this year, but the first phase is now finished. As well as a convenience store and a restaurant, Central Mansions offers residents a gym, two swimming pools, a crèche area and super-fast broadband internet.
The prices of the units ranges from $1,600 a month for a one-bed, $2,700 a month for a two-bed, $2,950 a month for a three bed, and up to $5,800 month for the penthouses.
The company is also developing a shopping mall and office complex nearby, which will break ground in the second quarter of this year. Hongkong Land is in the tendering process at the moment, and it is intended to be completed in 2016.

SeeMacau May 16th, 2013, 04:34 AM ^^ Very cheap looking building
Jon Bon May 16th, 2013, 05:04 AM Kids City building is just plain ugly. It is a nuisance for Gold Tower 42. If I am the owner of GT42, I would definitely sue the developer of Kids City for ruining the view. It is such a big turn off for any potential tenant because the view is being blocked by this thin, ugly wall. They should demolish this eyesore building at the owner's expense.
Phnom Penh urban planners must draft up the building codes for all tall structures to meet a minimum aesthetic requirement. If they don't do it soon, many cheap developers will put up more ugly cheap buildings all over the city.

That location is better reserve for high-end fashion boutiques or restaurants, not with this cheap looking kid's city.

It is ugly, who can you blame, people seems to be free to build whatever they want here, the only one you can blame is the owner of GT, as it should have purchase that plot of land as well.
If GT don't own that plot of land, there is no guarantee of view from that direction. There is also a car show room on the monivong side, not as bad, but it could turn out to be a ugly building as well.
However, I think when GT is complete, with beautiful gold fascde, it will overshadow this ugly toy store, and you wouldn't even notice it is there.
