Think it is the highest observation deck I have visited ? Wouldn't have been much height difference between the inside Sears Deck and the lost rooftop WTC NY deck ? Have seen great pics of the new Edge balconies. Which give the look straight down more drama but still remember the outlook over Chicago and the Lake amazing. Same era. Some competition between the two for 30 or so years before 2001. Maybe not logical, but whatever. :) Aon/the Standard Oil Building is more like the WTC's brother. Same construction method and everything. 10/10 hoangphuvn June 28th, 2011, 08:03 AM Absolutely tall & amazing! 9,5/10. keroro91 June 28th, 2011, 08:43 AM 5/10 PigTheStig July 3rd, 2011, 01:05 AM Chicago has some real gems and this one is shear class. 9.5 Im Using A Computer July 4th, 2011, 12:40 AM i dont care for boxes much, but this thing just carries such an aura of power and class about it, has to be a 9.5/10. siloxine July 4th, 2011, 08:09 AM 8/10 WTCNewYork July 4th, 2011, 04:16 PM Tall and beautiful. 9.5/10 EDIT: Wish I could revote and give it a ten. It is a very functionalist building that, while tall, doesn't overwhelm despite, yet still manages to stand out in a skyline as impressive as Chicago's. MafaldaBoy August 31st, 2011, 12:50 AM The ugly antennas stopped me from giving it a perfect score, so 9/10 Supertack September 16th, 2011, 02:06 AM First, this is a great forum. It's probably a homer vote being a 10, but how do you find fault in Sears? The black imposing structure raising outta the surface of a great sky line is iconic. The white antenni are a stark contrast in color bringing a perfect skyward relief, and the height is extraordinary for a structure built in 1972. To me, this building holds it's own on sure longevity of the architecture. I mean, it held the world record in the modern age until recently, so obviously it's a historically high structure that demands its place in history. eurico September 16th, 2011, 10:17 AM 8.5/10 early version of Burj Dubai :) masuimi2 October 5th, 2011, 06:15 AM F**king Majestic. 9.5 xJamaax October 12th, 2011, 09:47 AM Nice tower! 0peth October 26th, 2011, 06:19 AM Great pictures & information! Volksraad October 27th, 2011, 09:08 AM Nice tower :) 7/10 Skymaster November 4th, 2011, 08:14 AM I'll give it a 8/10 just because of it's size. luis fernando December 3rd, 2011, 05:05 AM 9/10 po-boy December 16th, 2011, 05:53 PM The Sears Tower is a very impressive building, especially when you consider its age. It was (and is) a technical marvel. It also stand out pretty well because of its unusual shape. I have actually been to the viewing level and really enjoyed looking down on the rest of Chicago. Despite all of those positives, I have never been particularly fond of the building. To me it is not a pleasing shape. I rate it an 8. Aesthetically for me it is about a six, but its size and importance are a ten, so I averaged those out. Overall nice design. iloveclassicrock7 April 1st, 2012, 12:32 AM Maybe you should go back and read the WTC thread again, the building will stay 1776 feet, the spire will just me changed. The sears tower has a higher roof though, so in a way its still taller. I give the sears a 10 btw, its probably my favorite skyscraper Dralcoffin May 14th, 2012, 11:38 PM Maybe you should go back and read the WTC thread again, the building will stay 1776 feet, the spire will just me changed. No, it looks like the new spire will be classified as an antennae, meaning that the nation's tallest building would stay in Chicago, where it belongs. iloveclassicrock7 May 15th, 2012, 12:33 AM No, it looks like the new spire will be classified as an antennae, meaning that the nation's tallest building would stay in Chicago, where it belongs. I explained this in the WTC thread. Whatever happens with that, it doesn't matter. Sears will always be taller by roof height, and 1 WTC will always be taller by pinnacle. It doesn't matter what some council says, their architectural measurement is very subjective, pinnacle and roof are clear cut facts. They share the title. But, with that said, I lean a little more towards roof height. Whatever tower passes Sears, should actually be taller in actual building. Think about how much it cost to build the extra floors the Sears has. In my opinion that should count. ultraviolet May 15th, 2012, 05:37 PM 10/10 WeimieLvr May 17th, 2012, 06:58 PM :okay: 9 bleustx May 19th, 2012, 01:01 PM 10/10 That antenna, woah! The shape is okay. 7/10 aarhusforever May 21st, 2012, 05:22 PM 10/10 :) Jay May 23rd, 2012, 03:03 AM No, it looks like the new spire will be classified as an antennae, meaning that the nation's tallest building would stay in Chicago, where it belongs. That's more media speculation, the PA has assured that it will still be counted as 1776, of course sears will have a slightly higher roof and top floors yes. |
