I thought I'd add another design to my city of the future - developed this design last night... and yes, I know it's a little showy.

This twin tower/telecommunication monolith was a reinterpretation of medieval castles including their turret design. The design approaches it from a very fantastic slant addiding to the idea from years long since past and recontexualising it for the future. I was attempting to create a modern interpretation in a rather futuristic vernacular - retrofuturism.

The design borrows ideas from Shung Hing Square - Shenzhen in the cylindical ends but does it in a manner far more luxurious and excessive. The 16 pods form the basis of a natural flower and the extruded shape soars high above the ground. The vertical form is punctuated with various glass sections in differening colours and stylistic treatments, seeking to break up the mass while also providing a practical purpose for outdoor and open areas of the building.

Several levels for observation would be available at varying heights through the tower. It would contain all manner of residential, commerical, tertiary industry with a university, hospital and shopping complex expected as part of the development. A city within a city it would compete with other visions such as Bionic Tower and Millenium Tower in its ideals and extravagance.

The design of the base is yet to be determined but would likely follow some loose pattern such as medieval castle design with the towers as the keep and the outer walls and drawbridge section located around it in a futuristic style.

The height of the tower could be anywhere from 600-1000+ metres, but the spire is integrated with the design and contains habitable space as high as is practicable.

I added another image above... which better shows the tower...

I have added three full colour lasers and the red warning beacons. The map below which is my fudged street grid is from uptown NYC from an aera of the Bronx.

Alot of people also say the designs remind them of Tower of Russia and I take that as a compliment as I love its form and inherent beauty - mine is a little more extreme but I do see simularities - maybe they subconsciously represented themselves in my design. I was after an original type building and I think it acheives this, still being a work in progress with many variants, I have about 10 differing versions of it already with many more to be developed as I fine-tune the shapes, colours and forms. The original blue, silver and mauve/pink is still my favourite combination. I am now concentrating on a slow detailing process for the bulk of the tower. As a form study the shape it presently what I was after. I hav made no decisions on the development of the base and how it should look. It may even have feet protruding out like CN tower, I am very unsure of how I want it to appear.

Yes, to all those that think it more closely resembles a starship... great! Most of my buildings do, it is just the way i like them. Complete futurism with a heavy sci-fi element.

A slowly evolving form in an Australian nationalistic inpired slant... notice the dormer style window shapes now adorn the top replacing the spikes. Notice the difference in the vertical treatment with distinct pods and horizontal banding - down only as far as the mauve coloured, the tower is under reworking.
I would never want to produce it in these garish colours but if it ever where to be green and gold - maybe something like the colours of Central Plaza which are also refelctive green and gold.

Here is a sample podium and base ... complete with futuristic looking moat. LOL

This building has now turned into a sci-fi fantasy orgy of the extreme. I'd like to call it Ravecity and for it to be built on Australia's north coast or an island in Australia's tropical north. Fat chance though! It needs to tone down alot on the theming for human consumption.

LOL the sharpness is accentuated due to the extreme angle of the rendering but yes it is a little on the agressive side.

The design has come some way since I originally developed the idea - it also has alot futher to go. I really don't know what to do with the podium and base of the tower and how far to take the theming. It's a monolithic tower that's still very much a work in progress - I have only scratched the surface.

This is such an old design but still one of my favourites. Yes defintely Petronas on LSD. Retrofuturism in all its glory.

avatar sorry to dig, but i have to ask you what was the purpose of this castle? was it a drawing exercise or a demonstration of a particular design element?

You are not digging, I welcome the quiestions.

There is no real purpose other than to express my like of retro-futurism. Retrofuturism takes ideas and styles from the past and recontextualises them for the future with extraneous materials and cutting-edge building practises.

Would I like it as my world headquarters ... yes I would. It's basically an orgy or extreme design and what many would call tacky and superfluous use of garish colour and shape. It's designed to be shocking and I think it acheives it's goals.
