Erechim is a city in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It has a population of approximately 100,000 people.
Erechim came in 1906, in the path of the railway which linked Rio Grande do Sul to São Paulo[1]. Its settlers were mainly Italian immigrants. By 1926, 90% of the town's inhabitants were of Italian Venetian descent.[2] Other groups of European immigrants followed the Italians:
Germans and Poles.
Erechim's ethnic diversity can be seen in its architecture, people and culture.
