You mean the Bosnian ones? Thanks. :)
They are supposed to go up to 120 km/h, but because they are intercity, i doubt they will go over 90 km/h.
There are also the new Bosnian Talgo tilting-trains:

I must admit that those are quite impressive.
Are they built to the restricted british loading gauge, or do they take
advantage of the wider loading gauge available on the CTRL ?
That rolling stock might be a very good choice if one wants to run a
regional high-speed service on the continental high-speed network.
How are they doing, reliability-wise, now that revenue service has started ?
Any teething problems ?
Elvenking June 28th, 2010, 10:47 PM How many of the Siemens locos are currently being used ? I read somewhere that 10 were ordered to be delivered until 2012. Whats the current status on this ?

Maybe you've mistaken locos with planned 20 high speed trains that were to be bought by IC up to 2012 but unfortunately it's no longer an option - most propably they'll be delivered just after Euro2012 or in 2013. Right now there are talks with European Investment Bank about financing. Then tender, protests, paperwork etc... so 2013 is real option.
Ayceman June 29th, 2010, 12:05 AM The best locomotive produced in Romania (in fact the only native design) is the Softronic Phoenix locomotive:
http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/xx180/didiursuletz/P1130592.jpg
6700 kW = 9000 HP
It comes in 2 versions: freight - 120 km/h vmax | passenger - 200 km/h vmax
The best locomotive used in Romania is a Taurus.
Momo1435 June 29th, 2010, 08:18 AM ^^ That is actually a rebuilt loco isn't it. Are there any plans to design a complete new loco are they only focusing on rebuilding older loco's, something that would actually be a good choice.
I must admit that those are quite impressive.

advantage of the wider loading gauge available on the CTRL ?
That rolling stock might be a very good choice if one wants to run a
regional high-speed service on the continental high-speed network.
They have the standard British loading gauge. The CTRL is basically the trunk line with services branch out to Ramsgate and Dover on the old normal lines.
kjetilab June 30th, 2010, 01:01 PM I guess the best trains in operation in Norway is the BM73 Series of the Norwegian state Railways (NSB)

http://i111.photobucket.com/albums/n125/kjetilbalog/SCC/NSBBM73Drammen02.jpg
The BM73 have a top speed of 210 km/h (only achieved on the Gardermoen Airport line) and is used for long haul service between Oslo and Bergen, Kristiansand/Stavanger and Trondheim. The BM73b, with somewhat different seating arrangement is used for Intercity service between Oslo and Halden/Gothenburg

As Momo explained, they're built to the British loading gauge since they're meant to serve the local lines that branch out from High Speed 1.
Also note the white pickup shoes on some of the bogies. This is because much of southern/southeast England's rail network outside of HS1 is electrified using 750V DC third rail. The Eurostar also had these before HS1 was extended to the coast, not sure if they're still there.
The Javelins are also among my favorites, but unfortunately they're not widespread enough to really make an impression on me.
Ayceman July 1st, 2010, 03:45 PM ^^ That is actually a rebuilt loco isn't it. Are there any plans to design a complete new loco are they only focusing on rebuilding older loco's, something that would actually be a good choice.
Nope, it's newly built. The basic design is based on their experience with upgrading class 40 and 41 electric @5100kW to class 46 and 47 @6600kW, but it also contains some innovations. 4 or 5 have been sold since last year, to the Hungarian private operator MMV and to CFR. Softronic is also planning on coming with another design soon.
makita09 July 1st, 2010, 04:56 PM That rolling stock might be a very good choice if one wants to run a
regional high-speed service on the continental high-speed network.
Not really, they are only commuter trains in reality, although they can do 140mph / 225km/h. The base design is not a high speed train, and is unlikely to ever be pushed that far, especially as the manufacturer has high speed platforms to build on already I believe.
How are they doing, reliability-wise, now that revenue service has started ?
Any teething problems ?
Apparently as few teething problems as you would expect from the Japanese reputation. They've been a success in service, although passenger numbers aren't quite what was expected, but I think in a few years, especially post-recession, it'll be above expectation. There are plans to purchase about another 8 units to increase lengths on some services.
The Eurostar also had these before HS1 was extended to the coast, not sure if they're still there.
They were removed a year or two ago. Btw HS1 started at the coast (opened 2003), the second section, the last to open (2007), was the bit into London.

Ah, thanks for the correction. I never looked too much into the details of HS1's construction and just assumed that they started in London. I guess I should have just said "when HS1 was completed".

Gatis July 8th, 2010, 12:47 PM Latvia may have not the most modern trains in the world - but at least all are locally designed and produced by Riga based company RVR.

Spikespiegel September 22nd, 2010, 12:23 PM The best in Denmark:
The litra ER (or known publically in Denmark as the "Interregional, IR4" train):
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ea/Ir4.jpg
The second-best, is probably the MG (IC4):
http://multimedia.ekstrabladet.dk/archive/00495/IC4-tog_495267m.jpg
However, one could argue that the best trainset ever in Denmark is the...... MR!
http://www.lollandsbanen-privat.dk/DSB/PICT0582.JPG
(Reason being is that it never breaks down, and even if it does recieve a major fault that would otherwise have broken down other trains, this train will still soldier on)

The best trains of the Netherlands in my point of view...
NS Intercity 'Koploper' (headrunner) a real classicer now. In service since the '70.
It connects all the medium and larger cities.

is it UIC gauge?
That question makes no sense. Which UIC gauge?
(It would also help if Australian railways were built to UIC specifications, which they most certainly are not.)

SydneyCity March 15th, 2011, 08:26 AM The Tilt Train in Queensland is proberbly the best, although Australia has one of the world's worst intercity rail systems. There are two versions of this train, one diesel and one electric. The electric one travels between Brisbane and Rockhampton twice per day, and the diesel one travels from Brisbane to Cairns once per day.
