^I'm waiting for you to put up an argument as to how LA is more important than Chicago, silverlake.

Shhhh, nobody help. I just want to see what he comes up with. ;)

One word...

PORN....

We have changed the way men spank the monkey.

But seriously, I don't think I can ever convince you, but it is in many ways, but to put it simply trends in LA affect Chicago, trends in Chicago don't make it to California! :cheer: :cheer: :cheer:

^No, no, no, Silverlake.

Don't try to put it simply. Actually make a decent argument.

^No, no, no, Silverlake.

Don't try to put it simply. Actually make a decent argument.

NO MATTER WHAT I SAY YOU WILL NOT ACCEPT IT.

LET ME END BY SAYING THIS. IF CHICAGO IS AS IMPORTANT AS LA, THEN ATLANTA IS AS BIG AND AS AN IMPORTANT CITY AS CHICAGO. AS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN ATLANTA AND CHICAGO IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CHICAGO AND LA.

AND SO ATLANTA WOULD EQUAL CHICAGO. THAT IS AN ABUSRDITITY>

There's a chance I'd accept it if you brought forward a decent argument. Rigth now, I really do think Chicago ranks ahead of LA in importance.

This has less to do with me not being able to accept it and more to do with you just not having a clue as to what you're talking about. No, making idiotic comparisons that you have absolutely no ability to back up (LA, Chi, Atl) doesn't cut it.

^^ Sorry but i cant take you seriously. You think that San Diego is ''America finest city'' but L.A is not in one bit world class. I suppose you think San Diego is world class..........

that name was given to the city, I didn't made it up, its not my fault that the city was baptized with that name (america's finest city) . And the name mentions AMERICA not the whole WORLD, which makes a huge difference, it might be america's finest city but that doesn't make it a world class city ... ANYWAYS ... San Diego is very nice no matter the names it has.

The US has 3 great cities that are recognized worldwide for their industry, cultural institutions and economic base and they are without a doubt NYC, LA and Chicago.

I can't prove the first point because it is so obvious. It is like proving the sky is blue!!!!!!!!!!

The point about the density doesn't rely on smaller community areas.
LA contains a coninuous subset that is bigger than Chicago and of greater density (12k ior 13k or whatever chicago is). Plus if you look at sq miles greater than 50k, 35k, 25k, we blow Chicago away like that too!

Here is something to look at Silver.

I don't know what those stats are trying to prove. At the 50 mile range LA is still going strong, making it the densest area in the nation. Is that what these stats are for?

Just some statistics to put away some misconceptions. Silver believes L.A. central core is denser than Chicago.

Yes, Los Angeles suburbs are the densest in the nation.

Last I checked, city of Los Angeles (and a host of other cities) officials also challenged the 2000 census results in court, so it's not like we are the only ones complaining.

100,000 plus or minus, does not effect the over all density of a city the size of L.A. NYC, or Chicago all that much, but it does determine the amount of federal $$$$$ is given to a city.

Chicago 2.9 million density= 12,719 ppl per sq mile
Chicago 3 million density= 13,158 ppl per sq mile

Los Angeles 3.9 million density= 8,387 ppl per sqr mile
Los Angels 4 million density= 8,600 ppl per sqr mile

This is messed up. The topic of this thread asks whether or not Los Angeles is a world class city and here we have stats being posted comparing the density of Los Angeles, NYC, and Chicago. I think all of us know that's our cue to STOP this nonsense.

LA is just a big sprawling suburb. You can't compare LA with New York, Toronto, Chicago, London or Paris.

Even Moscow is more of a city than LA. (Sorry LA)YOu are including Toronto? hahaha dude, 20 years ago , Toronto was plain grass to feed your cow.
I think LA is top noch. LAX !

Density?? Isn't LA (the city) twice the land area than Chicago and on top of that LA has a practically uninhabited mountain range running through it??? Just quoting density figures doesn't give us a good idea really how dense a city feels. Further, from the Santa Monica city limits heading east to downtown is some of the densest tract of land outside of NYC. These two cities are simply incomparable because essentially they are built on two different models. It's quite misleading to try to compare these two cities. With one it still adheres to the old concept of a dense core. The other has a much less dense core but outlying areas surprisingly become more dense. But if we talk about the metro area no one touches LA. Where the other cities fall off at around 30 miles and farmland start to appear, LA continues to hold its density til the end.
