As PJ just celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, The Star had a mini series of articles depicting life at this satellite town. Here's some pictures form that series......

Enjoy :) ......

This scene can still be found in Old Town reminding visitors about its past as the earliest settlement in Petaling Jaya.

The former Thrifty Supermarket has been replaced by a branch of the Giant Hypermarket and giant furniture store, Courts Mammoth. In the old days, PJ residents’ version of ‘malls’ were Thrifty Supermarket, Jaya Supermarket and Asiajaya.

True-blue PJ residents can never forget the pre-cineplex days when the PJ State cinema was the place to catch the latest movies. It’s closed now, edged out by modern cineplexes which have mushroomed inside giant shopping malls.

This huge Flame of the Forest in Section 1, Old Town, is said to be more than 50 years old. As the earliest part of PJ to be settled, old trees such as this one are more common here than other parts of the township.

Many a wedding reception has been held at the PJ Civic Centre, not to mention other community activities that have made this shiplike building one of the town’s major landmarks.

The first fast food outlet in PJ is this A&W outlet in PJ New Town. Many PJ residents can recall happy moments as they enjoyed ice creams and root beers here over the years. A lot of development has taken place around it such as Amcorp Mall (blue building in the background) and the Taman Jaya LRT station.

The Armada Hotel building is relatively new compared to the Asiajaya complex which used to be a popular hangout in the 70s thanks to its bowling alleys and supermarket. Most entertainment spots were only found in KL then.

http://gallery.cybertarp.com/albums/userpics/21718/normal_PJ%20-%20Menara%20MPPJ%20directory.jpg
Although it is the tallest building in PJ, the MPPJ only has 22 floors!

http://gallery.cybertarp.com/albums/userpics/21718/normal_PJ%20-%20Axis%20Tower.jpg
Completed in early 2004, the 15-storey Menara Axis has succeeded in attracting big-name tenants like FujiFilm, Philips, and Fitness First. It also has a twin (in my opinion) in the shape of the Millennium Tower in Damansara Heights!

http://gallery.cybertarp.com/albums/userpics/21718/normal_PJ%20-%20Menara%20Jaya.jpg
The largest condo in PJ, Sec 14's Menara Jaya, is designed like a modern-day ziggurat!

http://gallery.cybertarp.com/albums/userpics/21718/normal_PJ%20-%20Millennium%20Place.jpg
Another new development for PJ, this one is the Millennium Place located adjacent to Menara Jaya. It has twin 21-storey serviced apartments atop a shopping podium.

Stay connected for updates!

As for your query, y2k, Damansara has many different "sections"... Those that are in PJ include the "original" Damansaras of Utama, Jaya, and Kim plus the newer districts of Damansara Perdana, Mutiara Damansara (IKEA's home!), and Kota Damansara...

KL's Damansaras are Heights and Bukit Damansara (the Beverly Hills enclaves)...

Fully agree with u, sze... The FujiFilm sign at night is too bright, thus blocking off the building's floodlights... At least the "Menara Axis" logo (left of the eyesore) is still ok...

Here are some more pix!

And I actually wished Putraline would build an extension route that goes like this:
Kelana Jaya - Depot - Sunway (new) - Subang Jaya (new)... and STAR should build an extension that goes like this: Bukit Jalil - Sri Petaling - OUG (new)- Puchong (new) -Sunway (new - which connects to Putraline in Sunway).... Don't you guys think it'll be quite a perfect route? All the areas covered are densed... My Gawd! Why can't they make our commuters' lives better by doing so!

I think it would be better if your Putraline suggestion would include USJ :D Then Starline which serves Puchong could connect all the way to USJ. ;)

Yea......actually the govt had made plans for such extensions.....just that it would cost billions of Ringgit to pull something like that. We have to give em some time ;)
