Hi DuskTrooper, nice cities:okay:

I also used to have one of those city journals at simtropolis but stopped posting shortly after I started because of the small photo size limit :bash:

Anyway, i love your BAT buildings and hope to see more:)

I have my own city journal here (needs to be updated soon though), it includes a bunch of your buildings if you're interested - My city (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=72920)

Very nice! It sort of makes me want to play the game again. I haven't played in long time because I got so tired of the same buildings developing time after time. It got to the point where I had more fun bulldozing the perniciously repetitive buildings than watching my cities grow.

Downtown:

The city is currently undergoing major development and redevelopment in the downtown area. The east side was totally cleared out of the old and creaky structures, which were done in the chicago style, which many considered eyesores in comparison to the gleaming towers just to the west. The space will be used fo the long awaited main street urban development.

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/071904/DT_071904_BAOKS_CORE_FIXED.jpg

ALso, to improve the aesthetics of the city, several of the long stretches of highways were buried and covered with parks, to improve the way the neighborhoods flowed, and to connect the old with the new. This is the transitional park on SN 77 NE:

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/071904/DT_071904_BOAKS_Tnl_NE_001.jpg

The symphony district , which is bordered by both SN 77 and I-47 N benefits from this action the most, which would allow sims to walk from their homes directly to the theatres. The current selection is woeful, and the city is consulting with architects to create some new facilites. There is also a proposal for a rail station square in the district.

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/071904/DT_071904_BOAKS_Tnl_SYMPH_001.jpg

The canal is starting to see some new developments. There are still plans being hammered out for it.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/071904/DT_071904_BOAKS_CANAL_FIXED.jpg

Due to the extraordinarily high number of rich residents and their university bound students, a second university had to be built. This is the Vanadium University of technology. Baldwin oaks University was releived of some students, and so the system is now more balanced. However, the student populations at both campuses are nearing the maximum capacity, so there are talks of building a third campus.

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/071904/DT_071904_BOAKS_NEW_UNIV.jpg

The downtown parks were freshened up slightly, and a small lake was added in front of the Convention center. There are plans to build a high end hotel on the lot just west of the lake. This, along with the other proposed hotel ( site not shown ) will help bring more conventions to the city. The convention center may be redone soon. Notice that the freeway was also buried to connect things better.

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/071904/DT_071904_BAOKS_DWNTWN_PARKS_001.jpg

The night time shot looks much better without the nasty chicago Reamon plazas to the east.

That city is perhaps one of teh best I have ever seen. I noticed that you have a lot of freeways, are they really needed? (that last sentence wasn't supposed to be a suggestion, bc, you don't need them!) All of mine are never used. How did you get more than one convention center? That really is soooo cool, i feel dumb, all my cities are crapp.
What does SN-77 mean, I assume that it is a freeway? I love your railroad viaducts, and your park/canals are very awesome. Did you do this all with out the cash park or cheats, bc, if yu did, well, i just don't know what to say... keep on posting your cities!!!

Nice city! Wish I knew how to plop bldgs or download them from some of the other sites. Only ones that I can get come from the actual SIMCITY4 site. I just longingly look at all the bat and traded blgds/structures...... damn, some of them would look good in my cities.
Just one thing..... I think your CBD would look better if the bigger bldgs were just a little more spread out w/more room for parks/plazas. Most impressive skyscrapers have an equally impressive floor level/landscaping. Be cool too if a natural looking river bordered an area of your central downtown.

Well, alot of my freeways see high usage nubmers. I had to expand the capacity so this would be possible. Morning commute counts are sometimes well over 100,000 ( you have to use a tollbooth for accurate counts- and modify a version so that it does not impede the traffic flow ) And in CPD, some have over 250,000.

And about my rail- I USED to have 360,000 a day in Downtown alone, BUT, I kicked all of the medium wealth ppl out, and it dropped to 200,000. Still, sstemwide, it is well used.

And, BTW, I think I will rework a few of the lots of the large skyscrapers. Ill add some nice trees and stuff. I could actually create several plazas in the LE, too. As for the river- well, I cannot quite do that- I am using a nice canal instead, for development purposes.

EDIT: OH, BTW, SN 77 stands for Simnation highway 77, sorta like the US highways.( US 59, etc ) And I-47, in this case, stands for interhighway, instead of interstate.

SS454

Do you use a mod that lowers the commute times or anything? I heard that there was some mod or something that got the sims to use highways more?

I just read your response to my question, and I was absolutely amazed to see how much your freeways are used. That is amazing!!!! Just to think... I got xcited when one of my freeways' usage topped 17,000. Anyway, how do you get your sims to use the freeways, my sims seem to prefer the monorail or rail, this annoys me because most real, US,regions don't have either of those, and they take up soooo much space. LIke I said, keep posting updates, and you should be very proud of your work!!! Cool highway naming system! I'm dumb, I just name my freeways after famous singers like: Jessica Simpson Viaduct or Nelly Parkway, lol!!

Update!

Baldwin Oaks Old Town

The old city has been undergoing an urban revitalization, including the placement of new parks, the planting of new flora, and the destruction of old buildings. The IHT has since been removed tfrom the city due to climbing land values, and the demand for commercial and residential types has climbed.

This is the Winston oaks neighborhood, just south of Old Downtown. A few midrise structures have been built around the linear park. This area will see more development in the near future.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_Winstonoaks_072304.jpg

This is University Village, which, of course, is ceneted around the campus of the old campus of Baldwin oaks university, since converted to a high end campus for law and business. The campus is surrouded by mid rise, a few high rise residences, and a few nice shopping centers, which are frequented by the local yuppies and college students. As a result of the intense academics, and the students staying up studying, coffee sales are extremely high at the local cafes. The cafes have encouraged the University to maintain their high standards, as this keeps business going.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_OLDUNIVVILLAGE_2_072304.jpg

The village has a short proximity to Winston Oaks.
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_OLDUNIVVILLAGE_1_072304.jpg

Some residences in Northbend:
http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_NORTHBEND_072304.jpg

The neighborhood ofNorth bend borders the Bayou Ridge Country Club, which borders on the canal of Post Oak bayou. This high end neighborhood has quite scenic vistas, with views of parks, the canal, and the golf course.

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_CANALGOLF_072304.jpg

Th Baldwin Cypress Freeway, which is the main connector to the New Downtown, has well established greenery, and as a result, is one of the most pleasant drives in the region.

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_HIWAY_072304.jpg

Just south of Old Downtown is the ballpark, home of the Highlanders. This area has the post Oak bayou flowing through it, and it has a great selection of high rise residences. However, retail is planned for the area, to encourage streetlife after the ballgames have ended.

Another view:

http://img78.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/BSHIRE%2072304/DT_OBOAKS_BALLPARKPLACE_2_072304.jpg

Finally, here is Downtown. Downtown has several high rise offices in it, and as a result, has become the region's second largest economic power.

also: if you wanted to know, im thinking that you want a realistic city. But did you know that for highway t-intercahnges that if you hit tab you can have elevated-ground or ground-elevated intercahnge? so you dont need to have a elevated to elevated then you do a ele-ground transition into a tunnel which is quite steep. UPDATE TIME!

All of the content in the following update is from Old Town.

Development has finally picked up on Wyden Boulevard ( south of the university ) with planty of mid rise lofts and townhomes. B.A.R.T. has a proposal for a subway line to this area, which will help ramp the development up a bit more, as the area does not have too much retail. The closest B.A.R.T. transit line runs through Downtown, which is about a mile north of Wyden Road.
The old condos across the street will likey be torn down are replaced by retail, as the subway line will run right under Wyden Boulevard. The area has great demographics(plenty of high wealth sims) and a high traffic count ( about 130,000 cars per day ) which has caused land values to shoot up

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/City%20Pics/Update%2083004/Old%20Town/OBOAKS0830046.jpg

The area north of Downtown has seen a recent construction boom, too. New condos popped up here recently, and several new priojects will be underway soon.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/City%20Pics/Update%2083004/Old%20Town/OBOAKS0830042.jpg

A new loft development just north of the skyline. This area is known as NorthDowne.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v350/DuskTrooper/City%20Pics/Update%2083004/Old%20Town/OBOAKS0830048.jpg

Northdowne square, which is NW of the main blocks just north of downtown is home to one of the region's first Urban versions of UBER Kargmart. UBER Kargmart is a large store that is popular in the suburbs, but would be a valuable asset to any urban village. This Kargmart features a garage to the rear of the main building, and three levels. The footprint is much smaller than a typical suburban Kargmart, and the parking lot ( which is an eyesore ) was eliminated, and replaced with the garage. The Urban UBER Kargmart also feautures special products not normally availalbe in a regular Kargmart, such as a large selection of urban style furniture, and a hardware section that appeals to sims who live in lofts and such.

An event taking place at the amphitheatre. residents living within 250' of the pavillion have signed a waiver acknowlaging the possible loud music, althouh most of the performances are rather subdued, consisting of jazz and classical musical performances. Some rock concerts can get loud, however, but all events must end by 11 PM. Rap music is banned in the entire city.

Ok Dusk Trooper.

Here is my question for you,the Sim Master.

When you plop those town houses do they register as residential?.Sometimes plobbables are only just landmarks and are nothing but eye candy.

I need a programe that can plop building types where I want and function as normal with people living in them.

Ive herd of some programe on Simtropolis that does it.What programe/mod do you use?

DuskTrooper
September 4th, 2004, 09:37 AM
Once again, they work! They actually do hold residents HOWEVER, you cannot route query them. To get them to work, you have to zone the land first, wait till it is established, and then, plop over the zoned area.

Oh, and I mostly use the ILIVE reader for modding. However, there is currently no way to make them fully functionable.

It looks awesome..but really really unrealistic. Look at your Downtown..its like flat land, nothing at all, trees, than all of the sudden GIANT TOWERS. I think it would look 100000000000 times better if there was some sort of gradual height change, so they don't look so.. weird.
