Caen, one of the two capitals of Normandy, home of Guillaume le Conquérant, better known as William the Conqueror in the land that he conquered. Guillaume le Conquérant is burried in the abbey that you can see in the background of the picture (the two most distant spires in the picture).

more of the ruined city of Bagan, Myanmar, with over 2000 temples and pagodas (700-900 years old).
The stone built temples are the only thing left of one of the greatest ancient cities (the rest was wood :()

It may be intersting to remark that in the southern italian town of Alberobello (pop. 11,000) each house retains its own spire, called trullo. New buildings are still erected in this traditional shape.
