NBA Position: SF/PF
Class: HS Junior
Ht: 6-9
Wt: 245
Hometown: Plano, TX
High School: Prestonwood Christian

NBA Comparison: Chris Webber
Strengths: Strong body ... Has a high skill level for a high school sophomore ... Excels at facing up and putting the ball on the floor ... Very good finisher around the basket ... Can step out and hit shots all the way to college 3pt. range ... Can play with his back to the basket but prefers face up game ... A good kid with a great work ethic ...

Weaknesses: While very solid, especially considering his age, not a jaw dropping physical specimen type of athlete ... Doesn't play on the box as much as he should, too perimeter oriented. Should focus a little more on refining his post game which will really be his bread and butter as he gets older ... Settles for too many jumpers at times instead of imposing his will inside ... Too left hand dominant. Needs to work at using his right hand better ...

Notes: Considered by many to be the top player in the 2013 class ...Measured 6'9 (in shoes) 243 lbs, with a 6'10 wingspan at the 2011 LeBron James Skills Academy.

LeBron gets the chance to prove he's a hero
FoxSports

Before I get to LeBron James and the matter of his sudden, if entirely undeserved good fortune, let me address the prevailing standard for on-court heroism in professional basketball.

That would be Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals. With torn quadriceps, Willis Reed limped forth from the tunnel at Madison Square Garden, the applause rising with each hobbled step. Then he hit his first two shots, his only points that night.

It was inspirational, to be sure, though I’m not sure the magnificence of the image itself doesn’t overwhelm an even greater accomplishment. Clyde Frazier, then in his third season, had 36 points and 18 assists that night.

Let me offer an even better example, again, with no disrespect for Reed. Wednesday will mark the 32nd anniversary of Game 6 of the 1980 Finals between Philadelphia and Los Angeles. It’s incredible to think that a full season could end on May 16. Even more implausible, however, was the performance of Magic Johnson. He was a 20-year-old rookie jumping center for the greatest scorer in NBA history. With Kareem Abdul-Jabbar back in Los Angeles, one wondered how the Lakers could make up for his numbers — he averaged 25 points, 11 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.4 blocked shots that season — on the road. But Johnson, not known as a scorer, came away with 42 points (14 for 14 from the line), 15 rebounds, seven assists, three steals and the first of his five championship rings.

And so, in an admittedly roundabout way, I’m back to LeBron James. He is, as Magic was in his day, the most versatile and distinctive talent in basketball. His game doesn’t look like anyone else’s. It defies conventional characterization. He doesn’t even really have a position. I mean, he’s kind of a point guard but built like an NFL tight end, only bigger. But that’s not to say, as was often argued early in James’ career, that he’s a new and improved version of Magic Johnson. In existential terms, Johnson has an all but insurmountable lead. By James’ own recent admission, MVP awards are not the standard by which to judge him. Championships are. But after eight years in the league, LeBron James has yet to win his first.

Still, all is not lost for James, his entourage and their corporate sponsors. Rather, this second round of the playoffs could begin a grand transformation, a windfall for that which James holds most dear — his image.

It’s been almost two years since The Decision. Perhaps you think I should let it go already.

But, why?

The Chosen One. King James. LBJ. The monikers, like the expectations they engendered, didn’t come about organically. They didn’t originate with the fans. They weren’t even manufactured by the media. They come from James himself, along with the mercantile interests that have nurtured his narcissism since high school. He should own the expectations; he was the one who spoke of winning eight championships with the Heat.

That is, after all, why James signed in Miami, to win championships, right? He didn’t do it to be the Heat's savior and hero. He did it to make it easier. Problem is, dynasties aren’t supposed to be easy. And that’s why so many people still can’t stand the guy.

But this injury to Chris Bosh — out indefinitely because of an abdominal strain — could change that. It might not be good news for the Heat, but let’s be honest, it’s good for James. He wins a title as part of an ensemble, it’s only the first of many he was supposed to win. But without Bosh, James gets another chance. He can yet be as good as advertised. He can still play the hero.

Personally, I don’t think it’s too much to ask, him carrying Miami to the Finals, certainly not in a conference without Derrick Rose. Nor would I dare to compare Bosh with Jabbar or Willis Reed. But it’s not one game, either. James has a few weeks to work without the least important member of the Big Three.

Then, later this summer, he’ll compete for an Olympic gold medal, a souvenir that tends to do wonders for injured reputations. Think about it: James could get the MVP, the gold and a championship ring in the same year, a legitimately Jordanesque accomplishment.

Same skills, new mindset for LeBron?
The Associated Press

Spectacular as it seemed, it was nothing we haven't seen from LeBron James before.

Maybe that's the funny thing about all the hoopla over James' performance in Game 4 of the Pacers-Heat series. Because for once, it wasn't just his talent that deserved the spotlight, but his maturity. The question, after all, was never how good James was; he answered that long before his fateful decision to trade Cleveland for Miami turned James into the superstar everybody loves to hate.

He won a scoring championship, back-to-back MVP awards and single-handedly dragged the Cavs into the playoffs each of his last five seasons there - and still had enough energy left to deliver a handful of postseason performances every bit as eye-popping as the one he dropped Sunday on Indiana. People forget that now.

In 2007, James scored 48 points, including all of his team's last 25, in a double-overtime victory over Detroit. Former NBA sharpshooter Steve Kerr, who played alongside Michael Jordan and was doing the color commentary that night, bestowed the ultimate compliment that night: ''Jordanesque.''

In 2009, James put up 41, 44 and 37 points in consecutive games against Orlando. Over those five postseasons with the Cavs, he averaged 43 minutes and 30 points. Somehow, it was never enough.

So it's worth remembering the reason that Jordan, Charles Barkley and a handful of other NBA greats - plus nearly every NBA fan outside Miami - turned thumbs-down on James' decision to leave Cleveland in the first place. They simply thought he was too good and too young to go looking for so much help so soon.

To say James should have developed a sense of urgency since doesn't tell the half of it. He's 27 and still without a ring after the first season of the ''Big Three'' experiment ended in failure against the Dallas Mavericks. So when Chris Bosh went down in the first game of the series against Indiana, and Miami's response was two shaky losses in a row, everybody was quick to drop the blame into LeBron's lap instead of where it squarely belonged - on Dwyane Wade's shoulders.

It's one measure of how much James may have matured that he took the criticism in silence. Usually, he finds no slight too small to ignore and he's had so many public feuds running at any moment that it's hard to keep track of them all. Earlier this season, he correctly pointed out, ''If someone wants to get a point across - just throw LeBron's name in there. You could be watching cartoons with your kids and you don't like it, you say, 'Blame it on LeBron.' If you go to the grocery store and they don't have the milk that you like, you just say, 'It's LeBron's fault.' ''

And so it seemed likely to happen again this postseason as the Heat's tailspin - and Wade's funk - continued through the early going in Game 4.

Consistency comes when people know what's expected of them. And despite two-plus seasons trying to make their talents mesh, James' supporting cast in Miami is finding it just as hard as the one he left behind in Cleveland to figure out what their roles are when the star of the show is still trying to decide what his is going to be. For this one game, at least, James erased all doubts by doing just about everything. He scored down low, knifed through the lane, blocked shots, defended the post, brought the ball up - anything and everything Miami needed to stay within touch of the Pacers.

Just before halftime, with 19 points of his own, he fired off an assist to set Wade up for a dunk that may have reversed the momentum in the series for good. That one pass said more than any pregame pep talk James may have considered.

''I didn't say anything to him for a reason,'' James recalled afterward. ''He's one of the best players in the world, but I know that the best thing for a scorer who's struggling is to get him an easy one.''

''When 'Bron gave it back to me, I caught it in rhythm and you could tell I wasn't thinking of anything,'' Wade confirmed. ''I was just playing basketball again.''

The two combined for 70 of Miami's 100 points - 40 for James; 30 by Wade - including 38 straight at one point. Wade had 10 in a row by himself. Even Udonis Haslem got into the act, doing a passable imitation of Bosh in the paint.

''I felt like I had to do whatever it takes for us to win,'' James said.

''We played off each other really well. We were both,'' Wade said almost sheepishly, ''aggressive at the same time.''

Heat pummel Pacers, move within win of Eastern Conference finals berth
ESPN
http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=320522014

MIAMI -- Miami took a big step forward while Indiana lost two forwards.

Suddenly, the road back to the Eastern Conference finals no longer looks daunting for the Heat.

LeBron James scored 30 points, Dwyane Wade added 28, and the Heat moved a win away from the NBA's final four with a 115-83 victory over the hurting Pacers on Tuesday night.

The Heat lead the best-of-seven East semifinals 3-2, with Game 6 in Indiana on Thursday night.

James added 10 rebounds and eight assists. Shane Battier scored 13 points, Mario Chalmers had eight points and 11 rebounds, and Udonis Haslem finished with 10 points for Miami, which never trailed.

Paul George scored 11 points for Indiana, with starting forwards Danny Granger and David West adding 10 points apiece. Granger left with a sprained left ankle in the third quarter, and West left with what the Pacers called a left knee sprain at the end of that period.

Miami shot a franchise playoff-record 61 percent, best of any team in the playoffs this season. It was an 11-point game when Granger departed early in the third quarter, and the Heat outscored the Pacers by 21 the rest of the way.

After losing two of the first three games of the series, the Heat are in control once again -- getting there after a wire-to-wire win Tuesday, with just one time where things seemed in some doubt.

The margin was as big as 37 points in the final moments.

Miami, which had gotten into quick deficits in each of the first four games, was the team that started hot in Game 5, running out to a 19-8 lead on the strength of three 3-pointers from Battier -- who had been 2 for 19 from the field in the first four games of the series. Battier left his mark in many ways, even stopping a 3-on-1 Indiana break to set up a score by Wade at the other end.

But much like the Heat did in Game 4 when Indiana threatened to turn things into an early runaway, the Pacers settled down in a hurry.

The Pacers made Wade see blood early on, a couple of early flagrant fouls reminding everyone that these teams don't seem to like each other much.

Tyler Hansbrough struck first, hitting Wade on a play where the 2006 NBA finals MVP wound up with a cut over his right eye, similar to what Haslem received at Indiana in Game 4. So Haslem retaliated against Hansbrough not long afterward, earning a flagrant-1 foul that left the Pacers saying it should merit a flagrant-2 and automatic ejection.

Even after facing the big deficit, Indiana even had two shots to tie or take the lead late in the first half, the second of those a 3-point try from Granger with 3:03 remaining.

It didn't go down. He did.

Granger landed on James' foot after the shot, spraining his left ankle and leaving the game. The Heat outscored Indiana 8-2 the rest of the half, with James -- who had been guarded by Granger for much of the series -- scoring seven of them.

He opened the burst with a 3-pointer, stole the ball from West and dunked for a seven-point lead with 26 seconds left, then capped the half by coming up with a defensive rebound, passing to Wade, getting the ball back just before the halftime horn sounded and laying it in to send Miami into the break with a 49-40 edge.

Granger tried to play in the second half, lasting about 3 minutes before realizing his ankle wasn't going to let him continue. X-rays were negative, which was about the only piece of good news for Indiana.

By then, Indiana was ailing, and Miami was rolling.

James leaned back to catch a slightly wayward pass from Chalmers near the Miami bench, then firing it in one motion to Wade for an easy score as the reigning MVP toppled atop Heat assistant coach Ron Rothstein. Mike Miller even made the crowd roar for defending Leandro Barbosa and forcing a missed 3-pointer late in the quarter -- the highlight there being Miller played for about a minute while missing one sneaker.

When Granger left, it was 56-45. By the end of the quarter, Miami's lead was 76-57, and the Pacers were down another starting forward as well. West left at the end of the period and also headed to the locker room, diagnosed shortly afterward with a sprained left knee.

So now the Heat are one win from the East finals, after a series filled with twists and turns.

There was Indiana coach Frank Vogel's accusation before the series started that the Heat were floppers, Chris Bosh's lower abdominal strain that sidelined him midway through Game 1, James and Wade missing key chances late in the Game 2 loss, Pacers reserve Lance Stephenson's "choke" sign toward James in Game 3 and then the 40-point, 18-rebound, nine-assist effort from James in Game 4.

And now a blowout -- followed by a chance for a Heat close out on Thursday.

Warriors headed back to San Francisco
http://i2.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/2012/images/05/22/sf-warriors-526-052212.jpg
HANG TIME PLAYOFF HEADQUARTERS – One of the greatest cities on the planet and one of the greatest fan bases in all of sports moved one step closer to reuniting today with the unveiling of the Golden State Warriors’ plans to move back to San Francisco and into a new arena by 2017, when the team can maneuver out of its lease at Oakland’s Oracle Arena.
The new arena site is near the waterfront in downtown San Francisco on Piers 30-32 close to the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, a picturesque location that will provide some stunning views of the Bay Area. This is the latest effort by Warriors ownership, Joe Lacob and Peter Guber, to breathe new life into the franchise and give their fans hope for the future by diving back into their storied past.
Some of the greatest success the Warriors have experienced came during their time in San Francisco. In the nine seasons they called San Francisco home, from 1962-63 to 1970-71, the Warriors had five winning seasons, made the playoffs five times and went to The Finals twice.
This news didn’t shock the fervent fan base that has stuck with the team through the good and bad of the past 50 years, the last 41 in Oakland. When Lacob and Guber took over in 2010, they made it clear that they had plans to shake things up for an organization that has reached the playoffs just once since 1994, and that included a move back to the City by the Bay.
Not only will the new arena be the Warriors’ new home, they’ll be using private funds to build and complete the $500 million project. And it will bring a state of the art facility to downtown San Francisco when almost every other professional sports team in the area resides outside of the city limits.
“This is more than just a basketball arena,” Lacob said at the news conference attended by the likes of NBA Commissioner David Stern, California’s Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom and Warriors greats Al Attles and Nate Thurmond, among others. ”This is a live entertainment arena.”
Said Guber: “We had one mission today; a world-class venue.”
Warriors executive and the NBA logo himself, Jerry West, made sure to mention that he’d seen new arenas built in Los Angeles, twice. There is an energy and excitement that’s associated with these sorts of projects, he said, one that attracts fans and also players that want to enjoy the latest and greatest facilities the game has to offer.
“If I were a player,” West said, making his best pitch while trying to avoid the wrath of the commissioner, “this would be my resting place if I were a free agent.”

Goodbye, Chinese Taipei? Lin chosen for Team USA training squad

COLORADO SPRINGS – New York Knicks guard Jeremy Lin, whose rise from obscurity to NBA stardom captured the world’s attention, was among 13 young players named on Monday to the USA Select team.

NBA 2012 Rookie of the Year Kyrie Irving of Cleveland was also among those selected by USA Basketball for the squad that will serve as training opponents for the US Olympic team of NBA stars that will compete in the London Olympics.

The Selects will play training games against the American squad at the Olympic training camp July 6-12 at Las Vegas, Nevada.

But in addition to producing top efforts from this year’s collection of NBA Olympians, Lin and his teammates are taking their first steps toward the 2014 US world title defense and the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics.

“The Select team has an excellent collection of talent,” said USA Basketball chairman Jerry Colangelo.

“The group has outstanding speed and versatility, some excellent shooters and some very good size.

“It will be great to have them involved in USA Basketball and in the national team pipeline for our next quadrennium.”

Lin, an Asian-American whose parents are from Taiwan, had been cut by two NBA clubs and was on the Knicks’ bench when injuries to two starters forced the former Harvard University player into the lineup.

Lin made the most of his opportunity, averaging nearly 24 points and nine assists in 10 games and leading the Knicks on a seven-game win streak while touching off “Lin-sanity” among long-suffering Knicks’ supporters.

Most likely USA roster, depleted by injuries (kobe, rose, howard, bosh) and no-shows (bynum, rondo, kobe)

starters

pg - westbrook (the healthiest among all pgs)
sg - wade (boyfriend is here, so might as well be here, right? but with recent injury, Eric Gordon might take roster spot)
sf - durant (best player at his position)
pf - james (can actually play all positions, but will be well suited at the 4 to accomodate durant and wade at the 2 and 3)
c - chandler (best option at center, doesnt really have to score to contribute, post play will be taken care of by the likes of lbj, melo andgriffin )

reserves

pg - paul (hohumm on participation, here just because all his best buds are here too)
pg - williams (a need for a 3rd point guard)
sg - harden (no matter how you look at it, harden deserves to be here)

Most likely USA roster, depleted by injuries (kobe, rose, howard, bosh) and no-shows (bynum, rondo, kobe)

starters

pg - westbrook (the healthiest among all pgs)
sg - wade (boyfriend is here, so might as well be here, right?)
sf - durant (best player at his position)
pf - james (can actually play all positions, but will be well suited at the 4 to accomodate durant and wade at the 2 and 3)
c - chandler (best option at center, doesnt really have to score to contribute, post play will be taken care of by the likes of lbj, melo andgriffin )

reserves

pg - paul (hohumm on participation, here just because all his best buds are here too)
pg - williams (a need for a 3rd point guard)
sg - harden (no matter how you look at it, harden deserves to be here)
f - anthony (iffy at being a reserve, might throw tantrums and lots of shots if he cant be a starter)

Kobe: i still think Kobe will pass this summer, im not wishing it, but the possibility is there.

Melo: the 2nd best player in the last get go in Beijing, but will also flash the injury card if things wont fit his way (not being a starter) or if he's not interested enough to be in London

Anthony Davis - aside from being the Christian Laettner of this group, USA Basketball wants to have this athletic center an exposure in international hoops. surely, they think he'll be the face of USA basketball 4 years from now. And besides, the only other big men worthy to be named in the roster, namely Bynum and Big Cuz are headcases.

Rondo - he was actually included in the 2010 Worlds roster, but his lack of outside shooting was the reason the coaching staff planned to cut him before he jumped the gun and voluntarily quit before they can announce it

Eric Gordon- If Wade or Melo aint available, this guy is ready

Wow if the Lakers can trade Gasol for Bosh and then flip Bynum (and Jordan Hill or picks) for D.Howard, LA will definitely be in the position to win a few more NBA titles with Kobe, Metta, Bosh, and D.Howard in Lakers uniform. :okay: :okay:

Win-win trade: Gasol-for-Bosh deal a winner for both Lakers and Heat
FoxSports
http://www.foxsportswest.com/05/22/12/Gasol-for-Bosh-deal-a-win-for-Lakers-and/msn_landing.html?blockID=733702&feedID=7972

When Pau Gasol arrived in Los Angeles five years ago, he was the missing link for the desperately rebuilding Lakers. His passing, vision, skill and selflessness fit seamlessly into Phil Jackson's triangle offense, and suddenly the Lakers were back to being the Lakers — feared, loathed and on their way to three straight NBA Finals appearances and back-to-back titles.

Now, with the team having been dispatched by a better team for the second consecutive season in the Western Conference semifinals, Gasol is again the solution for the Lakers.

This time, though, they must really trade him.

There's nothing wrong with Gasol's skill set. Though he turns 32 in July, Gasol has never relied on his athleticism or quickness, gifts that diminish over time. He is still a matchup nightmare, a 7-foot forward who, this season, expanded his range to the three-point line, much to Andrew Bynum's chagrin.

What has changed is the Lakers. With Bynum's development into a dominant low-post player (at least when he feels like it — or when Kobe Bryant feels like giving him the ball), there isn't space for two on the block. And now that the triangle offense has been replaced by Mike Brown's isolation plays, the ball doesn't make it into Gasol's hands often enough.

The problem with that is Gasol remains — by far — the Lakers' best distributor and decision-maker, his ill-fated pass that Kevin Durant poached at the end of Game 4 notwithstanding.

Simply put, the Lakers no longer get their money's worth — $18.7 million a year — out of Gasol.

And though there are many teams that would love to have Gasol — Houston, which almost got him in December, and Chicago are the two most oft-mentioned — one deal makes the most sense and it involves Miami.

Hello, Pat Riley?

Sending Gasol to the Heat for Chris Bosh might just be the missing piece for both franchises. The salaries are a close enough match to make it work: Gasol has two years and $38.2 million left on his contract; Bosh has four years (the last two are player options) and $78 million on his. And neither owner, the Heat's Micky Arison nor the Lakers' Jerry Buss, is afraid to go all in.

This works for the Lakers because Bosh is most comfortable playing at the elbow or on the baseline, facing the basket and shooting jumpers — a perfect (but now-absent) complement to Bynum in the post. Bosh, who just turned 28, gives the Lakers someone — anyone? — who can get easy baskets in transition and provides them two cornerstone big men who are hitting their prime as Bryant nears the end of his.

Meanwhile, in Miami, it's hard to imagine changes won't be made if the Heat don't win the title. Is coach Erik Spoelstra done? Is guard Dwyane Wade sent elsewhere? Perhaps, but flipping Bosh for Gasol would cure many of the Heat's ills.

They would have a true low-post threat, a role LeBron James has grudgingly accepted (except in the playoffs) because Bosh could not find any comfort there — and nobody else on the roster is capable. Gasol, unlike Bosh, can defend any Eastern Conference center not named Dwight Howard and would provide James with someone who also values the importance of keeping the ball moving. This might encourage Spoelstra — or whoever is coaching the Heat — to actually, like, run an offense.

Such a trade might also rejuvenate both players.

Bosh seems to shrink under the weight of the Heat's villainy, but would find comfort in a locker room that, despite some dominant personalities, is quite mature. And, in case nobody noticed, Bryant and Metta World Peace are quite comfortable being the bad guys.

Gasol's championship pedigree, both with Spain and the Lakers, would be more valued in Miami than it is in Los Angeles, and might give him a greater voice in the locker room than he's had with the Lakers, keeping him more engaged. And as much as Gasol enjoys living in Los Angeles, South Beach would also agree with his cosmopolitan tastes.

Certainly, the trade would not solve all the Lakers' problems. If Ramon Sessions opts out of his contract, the Lakers must procure a point guard. And, just as urgently, their bench must get younger and more athletic. Steve Blake is serviceable and Jordan Hill is promising, but LA needs shooters, shooters and shooters.

But those are moves made at the margins. Planting Gasol in Miami immediately makes the Heat the favorite in the East next season, and putting Bosh — and a few tweaks — in Los Angeles would put the Lakers in the mix in the West.

This would be a bold deal, but for an aging Bryant and an anxious James desperate for a championship — and owners who have been rewarded for rolling the dice — it's also the right one.

Oh Hell No! Knicks' money will be better spent with someone else who can actually help this Knicks team at the PG position.

Lamar Odom’s top choice reportedly is Knicks
By Larry Brown

http://network.yardbarker.com/nba/article_external/lamar_odoms_top_choice_reportedly_is_knicks/10862180

Could the Kardashians be taking New York for a second time? According to a report from Ian Begley, Lamar Odom’s top choice in free agency would be to join the Knicks.

Begley reports that Odom’s priority is to be comfortable, and he feels he can be in New York.

The problem for the Queens native is that he’s still on the Mavericks’ roster and they are trying to trade him before June 29. Any team that has him on their roster at that date owes him $2.4 million guaranteed next season.

If Dallas is unable to trade Odom, they are likely to waive him, at which point he could be claimed or become a free agent.

Though Odom seems interested in signing with the Knicks, they may not want him. The Lakers could have some interest given that several of his former teammates would welcome him back, but the decision would be up to the front office. We do know that scenario would be pleasing to his wife.

^^ Maybe, maybe not... But if the Heat fail to get the coveted NBA title once again, why not if it will make them better in the process. Failure brings out consequences and so it would not be surprising if they will be forced to do something to shake things up then either by replacing the coach or breaking up the trio which will mean it's going to be Bosh. Actually I think Gasol is a much better player than Bosh and also fits/fills the Heat's need better than Bosh can at the power forward position. Anyway can't count out the Heat just yet especially if they somehow get to beat the Pacers in game 6 without Haslem who got suspended for 1 game for that flagrant (retaliatory) foul on Tyler Hansbrough.

How can Heat close out Pacers without Haslem?
Yahoo Sports
http://www.peninsulaismightier.com/2012/5/23/3039881/how-can-heat-close-out-pacers-without-haslem?ref=yahoo

Udonis Haslem's flagrant foul on Tyler Hansbrough earned him a suspension for Game 6 of Miami's second-round series against the Indiana Pacers. Some could say this suspension comes at a bad time for the lifetime Heat player. After struggling with his shot for the entire season, Haslem shot 5-of-6 in Games 4 and 5 to supplement the Heat offense. Now without Chris Bosh and Haslem, how do the Heat close out the Indiana Pacers in Game 6?

In the last two games of this series, the Heat have played well with and without Haslem. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade dominated each third quarter in Games 4 and 5 while Haslem sat on the bench, but the 6-foot-8 Miami native made four field goals in the fourth quarter of Game 4 to protect the Heat lead. It's also noteworthy to acknowledge that the team that has won the rebounding battle has won each game in this series, and Haslem is a good rebounder.

Erik Spoelstra will likely use the same starting lineup he used in the previous two games - Mario Chalmers, Wade, James, Shane Battier and Ronny Turiaf. Frank Vogel may have to use a different starting lineup, though. Danny Granger and David West both sustained injuries in Game 5; West is expected to play but Granger is listed as day-to-day. Battier has done a phenomenal job of defending West and freeing James from that responsibility, and the former Duke standout may play a few more minutes at the four in Game 6.

Battier made four 3-pointers in Game 5, and Miami's 3-point shooting becomes more important without the mid-range shooting of Haslem and Bosh. Mike Miller's continuous injury problems make him a question mark on offense, but Battier, Chalmers and James Jones have to knock down their open shots to space the floor. If not, the Pacers will swarm Wade and James and make it tougher for them to score.

West's injury could be even more significant than Haslem's absence. If West is limited and cannot play a lot, Vogel will have to turn to Hansbrough and Lou Amundson. Both of those players are labeled as "energy guys" whose games don't employ the strength that West has. Miami will be more comfortable using smaller lineups against those two players. Defending West in Game 2 proved to be "taxing" for James, but James won't have to use as much strength defending Hansbrough. James will have to grab lots of rebounds in Game 6 for the Heat to win, as now Miami will miss two of the team's best rebounders. Mario Chalmers grabbed a career-high 11 rebounds in Game 5, and the Heat perimeter players should not try to "leak out" after Pacers field goal attempts but instead crash the glass.

Will James have to play 48 minutes now that both Bosh and Haslem are out? Haslem typically plays in the second and fourth quarters - where James receives his brief moments of rest. It may not be wise to play Joel Anthony and Ronny Turiaf in tandem since neither of those players can score outside of a layup. The Heat may use a lineup of, say, Chalmers, Wade, Jones, Miller and Anthony while James rests. James will probably play around 42-44 minutes, and Miami should just make sure that the Pacers don't go on a run while the three-time MVP sits.

The injuries to Granger and West could put the Pacers in a tough position to force Game 7 against the Heat with or without Haslem. But the Heat's 3-point shooters need to space the floor without Haslem's jumper, and James may need another double-digit rebounding effort for the Heat to win.

I'm really rooting for the Thunder in the West and the Heat in the East para Thunder vs Heat will end up battling it out for the NBA Finals with the Thunder winning it's first NBA Title! Thunder winning the NBA title will be even sweeter than the Mav's amazing run of last season. Go Thunder!

Would Thunder run be more impressive than Mavs'?
ESPN
http://espn.go.com/blog/dallas/mavericks/post/_/id/4689628/would-thunder-run-be-more-impressive-than-mavs

Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle had high praise for the Oklahoma City Thunder after being swept out of the first round, and his opinion was likely only reinforced after OKC's impressive dismantling and elimination of the Los Angeles Lakers in five games.

"No question that they got better," Carlisle said, comparing this OKC team that is 8-1 in the playoffs to the one the Mavs ousted in five games in last season's West finals. "When they went through what they did last year where they won two rounds and got in a tough series with us and basically were right there in every game, you take quantum leaps in terms of your emotional growth, understanding what it takes to advance to the highest levels."

It's been documented by the Thunder's coolness and effectiveness under late-game duress against the Mavs and Lakers, extinguishing the harshest criticism heaped on the kiddos a year ago.

If the Thunder, elevated by a core of four players age 23 and younger -- Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook, James Harden and Serge Ibaka -- get to beat the championship-pedigreed and re-invented San Antonio Spurs in the West finals, their path to the NBA Finals will have rolled through the three franchises that have represented the West since 1999, and that have won 10 of the last 13 championships.

It would certainly signal an official restructuring of the West hierarchy.

"Their players individually have gotten better," Carlisle said. "Westbrook is a better player this year. Durant’s a little stronger and a little bit better. Ibaka has taken a major quantum leap and (Kendrick) Perkins, last year he wasn’t the same player. He was coming off of a surgery the previous summer and there’s a huge difference in his body this year. He’s 20 to 25 pounds lighter, back playing above the rim again and was doing some good things offensively. He really brought toughness to their team. They’re in a great position."

If OKC goes on to win it all -- and for the sake of argument let's say it beats the Miami Heat in the Finals -- will a run through the Mavs, Lakers, Spurs and Heat be more impressive than the trail of superstar ashes left in the Mavs' wake as they bulldozed through the Lakers, Thunder and Heat?

With at least four more days until the start of this highly anticipated West final, let the debate begin.

Bosh feeling much better, could return to court soon
Written by Jeff Garcia
http://network.yardbarker.com/nba/article_external/bosh_feeling_much_better_could_return_to_court/10863494

The Miami Heat are up 3-2 in their semi finals series versus the Pacers but heading into Game 6, Miami will be a bit thin in the front court.

Miami will be without Udonis Haslem and Dexter Pittman with both serving suspensions and not to mention will continue to be without Chris Bosh who is out of action due to an abdominal injury. And although Miami should be able to dispatch the Pacers in this series, Bosh might be back on the court for Miami sooner than later.

Originally, Bosh was listed as being out of action indefinitely, but according to ESPN, he is feeling much better and could be back on the court during Miami's playoff run.

"I do have a chance to play again. That's the light at the end of the tunnel for me. That keeps me going every day."

"I've come a far way in a week," Bosh said. "I was kind of nervous initially, but it wasn't the worst news I could have gotten. I just have to keep believing and stay mentally strong. I think I'm healing at a very fast rate right now."

Needless to say getting Bosh back in action will help Miami tremendously. After Haslem, there is a considerable drop off in quality bigs for the Heat. Aside from Bosh and Haslem, the team has Joel Anthony, Ronny Turiaf, and Pittman (suspended for three games).

Being without Bosh and Haslem, Miami should be able to survive their series against the Pacers (considering Roy Hibbert has been playing sub-par and not taking advantage of Bosh not in the paint to contend with him) but should Boston advance to the Eastern Conference Finals, Miami will definitely need Bosh.

Can LeBron, Wade continue to keep soaring higher?
FoxSports
http://www.foxsportsflorida.com/05/25/12/Can-LeBron-Wade-keep-soaring-higher/landing_heat.html?blockID=735326&feedID=3722

INDIANAPOLIS – We're getting to see how high two guys can fly. With the Miami Heat down two games to one a few days ago, old man Dwyane Wade got five years younger. LeBron James did everything, even became a closer.

It was surely among the greatest three-game playoff stretches for two teammates in NBA history. And the Heat eliminated Indiana Thursday night, 105-93 in Game 6 to advance to the Eastern Conference finals.

James and Wade showed that they're the superstars they say they are.

They were intimidating. There were poised. They were unbeatable. They looked like champions.

"The series brought out the best in both of them," Miami coach Erik Spoelstra said. "They knew they had to play at an extremely high level for us to have a chance."

James and Wade saved the Heat. And credit Spoelstra, too, for having their ear. James said Spoelstra made "unbelievable adjustments. . .Just like he said we played spectacular, he coached spectacular and put us in a position to win."

In the past three games, James scored a total of 98 points. Wade had 99. And it's fair to say that Indiana panicked Thursday, starting late in the third quarter. But while Pacers coach Frank Vogel said that was a function of their inexperience, there was only partial truth in that.

The bigger truth is that James and Wade pressured them into that choke.

They bullied them into it.

The Pacers kept telling themselves, and everyone else, throughout the series that they were never going to back down. It's easy to say until the big moment comes. By Thursday morning, Spoelstra was complaining that the Pacers were cheap-shotting.

"The league does not have a problem with hard fouls on our two main guys," he said. "In nine games now, there's been over a dozen hard fouls to the face, some of the tomahawk variety. Some have drawn blood."

Actually, the cheapshots were going in both directions, with more coming from the Heat. But the point is, the Pacers were trying to talk themselves into being tough enough for James and Wade. It's a pretend thing that guys will do at times. Intimidation coming your way? Roll up your sleeves and talk tough.

That can only get you so far. And it impressively got the Pacers a lead after three games. But with 12.6 seconds left in the first half of Game 4, Indiana's Roy Hibbert put a hard foul on Wade, who was driving to the basket. When Wade started to move away from Hibbert, there was Indiana's Danny Granger, going chest-to-chest with Wade.

Wade yelled at him: "You're soft."

From that one moment, the Heat dominated the series. In crunchtime, the fight was on between pretend toughness and the real intimidating force of greatness.

But there's something uncomfortable, too, about two guys doing so much.

It's about the Heat's construction. It isn't right. In some ways, the Heat are built more for flash and glamour than for championships.

And with Chris Bosh still out hurt, the demand is on Wade and James to keep doing what they did in these past three games.

Remember, they did it against Indiana, which is a good team, but not a great one. If the Heat get through Boston or Philadelphia in the next round, then they're going to have to face a special team in the Finals. San Antonio and Oklahoma City both have depth and superstars.

What I'm saying is this: If we're finding out now how high two guys can fly, it's still questionable how far they can do it.

The Heat spent so much of their money on established stars that they didn't have much left for other guys. If you look at the old championship Chicago Bulls teams with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, they also had Dennis Rodman, one of the greatest rebounders of all time. Ron Harper was a stud defender. Toni Kukoc had height and versatility and great passing. John Paxson made 3-pointers.

Those guys were role players. The Heat's guys are barely more than bit parts. Spoelstra said that the Heat need for at least one of those guys “to step up out of his normal box.'' It did happen against Indiana. Mario Chalmers had one game. Udonis Haslem had a game. On Thursday, Mike Miller made four 3-pointers.

In the Finals, if the Heat get there, they're going to need a bit part to step up each day, and for Wade and James to keep flying this high.
Keep in mind: James wore out during last year's finals.

How far can these guys carry the team? Are they just that great?

Honestly, if Bosh doesn't get back, it's hard to see Wade and James playing like this all the way to the end. But that's just a theory.

And when James plays one of the great playoff games in history in Game 4, and Wade makes 17 of 25 shots for 41 points Thursday in Game 6, you start questioning your theories.

The Heat are a traveling rock show for their flash and expectations. James and Wade walked off together Thursday night. Wade was wearing bright pink pants, pink shoes and even had a pink wrap around his left index finger.

"Don't take a picture of me next to that," James said, as he stepped ahead of Wade by a few steps. "I'm not walking with that. I've already been in too many blogs."

In the past week, they added gutsy play to the great show. They raised their own games out of necessity, and it was something beautiful to see. Now, for the hard part: They'll have to keep their games right there.

Julius Erving strolled through the 76ers locker room as Philadelphia celebrated beating the Celtics to set up another Game 7 in Boston, on Saturday.

"It brings back all the memories," the Hall of Famer said after the Sixers forced the first seventh game between the rivals since he teamed with Andrew Toney to lead Philadelphia past Boston and into the 1982 NBA finals. "It seemed like it always came down to them."

The Sixers and Celtics met 12 times in the playoffs from 1953-69 and five more from 1977-85, fomenting an animosity that stretched from Bob Cousy through Bill Russell and Wilt Chamberlain and into the era of Dr. J. and Boston's original Big Three of Kevin McHale, Robert Parish and Larry Bird.

Looking forward watching the matchups of Westbrook vs Parker, Sefalosha vs Green, Harden vs Ginobli, Durant vs Leonard/Jackson, Perkins/Collison vs Diaw/Splitter, and Ibaka vs Duncan. Should be a really exciting series!

Durant and Westbrook named to All-NBA teams
Daily Thunder
http://www.dailythunder.com/2012/05/durant-and-westbrook-named-to-all-nba-teams/

For a third straight year, Kevin Durant has been named to the NBA’s first team All-NBA squad.

He’s joined by LeBron James, Chris Paul, Dwight Howard and Kobe Bryant.

Durant, who has been named to three straight All-Star teams and won three straight scoring titles, finished as runner-up to LeBron James for the MVP.

Russell Westbrook was named to the second team with Tony Parker, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love and Andrew Bynum. Westbrook received five first team votes.

The third team is Rajon Rondo, Dwyane Wade, Carmelo Anthony, Tyson Chandler and Dirk Nowitzki.

Westbrook, who could’ve now been eligible for the Rose Rule extension bump had he not waived it, has a strong case to be on the first team. He had probably his best season, finished fifth in scoring, and grew into one of the best three or four scorers in the game. Hard to remove CP3 or Kobe to insert Russ, but he certainly has a case.

WooHoo mamaya na ito Celtics vs 76ers! Will Boston's experience prevail over Philadelphia's youth? We'll find out soon. Hope Celtics win para Celtics vs Heat for the eastern conference finals. Go Celtics!

Who will win Game 7 in Boston?
ESPN
http://espn.go.com/boston/nba/story/_/id/7973351/2012-nba-playoffs-boston-celtics-rely-big-game-experience-game-7

The Boston Celtics are quick to dismiss the numbers, even though they suggest the team is in a favorable position as they prepare to host the Philadelphia 76ers in Game 7 of their Eastern Conference semifinal series on Saturday night at TD Garden.

History tells us that home teams prevail nearly 80 percent of the time in Game 7. What's more, the Celtics are 17-4 all-time at home in Game 7s and boast more Game 7 victories than any other team in NBA history. Conversely, the 76ers are a mere 1-7 on the road in Game 7s and are tied for the most Game 7 defeats in league history.

Rajon Rondo quickly points out that the success of past teams -- particularly those that had deciding-game success before he was even born -- means nothing to this year's team.

But there's something to be said for the Game 7 experience that Rondo and his more veteran teammates possess. That experience, perhaps even more than home-court advantage, is Boston's biggest edge over Philadelphia heading into Saturday's winner-take-all tilt.

According to ESPN Stats and Information, the Celtics have eight players on their roster who have combined to play in a whopping 27 Game 7s with a total of 925 minutes of floor time. Boston's Big Four of Ray Allen (7 games, 264 minutes), Paul Pierce (6 games, 239 minutes), Rondo (5 games, 186 minutes) and Kevin Garnett (4 games, 153 minutes) are no strangers to do-or-die situations.

The Sixers?

Only three players have seen Game 7 action, for a combined 59 minutes of action. And only one -- Elton Brand, 1 game for 48 minutes -- figures to see the floor on Saturday. (The other two, Tony Battie and Sam Young, are not typically part of the rotation.)

"Only a few of us have [Game 7 experience]," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I say that all the time, it's not like the whole team has it. But the key guys who have it, hopefully it's an advantage. But I've learned that every Game 7 is an individual game in itself, and the game will dictate if experience comes into play or not."

The Celtics know that this year's team is far too inconsistent and far too dinged up to lean on past experience.

"We're not going to go over the history," Rondo said on the heels of the Game 6 loss in Philadelphia. "This is a new series, it's a new group of guys that are going head-to-head, and it's been back-and-forth the entire series, so it's going to be a tough one at home."

But as the Celtics met with the media on Friday, you couldn't help but detect the team's confidence from being in this type of situation before with this core of players.

And it's the mental toughness they've shown throughout an adversity-filled 2011-12 season that leaves Rivers optimistic.

"I'm very confident in this group," Rivers said. "This is as good of a group as I've coached, as far as they just have a way of getting ready. Let's hope that just continues."

Asked why this team -- seeking to become only the fourth team since the ABA-NBA merger to make the conference finals after entering the All-Star break under .500 -- has been so resilient, Rondo offered similar pride.

"We haven't got it done yet, but we will tomorrow," he said of having another chance to close out the 76ers. "I think it's our mindset, our focus and our attention coming into the game. We're going to make sacrifices, we're going to have all the intangibles and make plays."

All that Game 7 experience hasn't ensured a Boston win in recent seasons. The Celtics have lost their last two Game 7s -- falling to the Lakers in the 2010 NBA Finals in Los Angeles, and succumbing to the Orlando Magic during the 2009 conference semifinals in Boston.

Those of a pessimistic nature would be quick to point out the similarities between the 2009 campaign and this season. The Celtics were playing that year without Garnett, and while many assumed Boston would roll on its home court in Game 7 against Orlando, the Magic jumped out to a double-digit first-quarter advantage and stormed to a 101-82 triumph that ended the Celtics' title defense.

As usual, with Boston potentially facing its last game of the season, questions abound as to whether this is the final time the Big Four will share the floor as teammates. Allen and Garnett will be free agents after the season, and while you can't dismiss the chance they'll be back together one more time, there's a strong likelihood this postseason will be the last rodeo.

But Allen brushed off the topic, having traveled this path so many times before.

"Not really, not at all," Allen said when asked if he thinks about the potential end of an era. "I think I've been in that situation many times before, that question has been posed so many times.

"We've been so fortunate to do what we've done here and it seemed like we've been ruled out so many times before, so many years before. It's just another opportunity to go out and be who we are, so we're not worried about what's beyond today, what's beyond tomorrow. We'll worry about what we have in the present day."

What they have is experience, much more than their opponent. While Allen doesn't want to focus on the future, the Celtics can lean on their past. It's the biggest reason there might be more basketball ahead for this group.

Rondo lifts Celtics over 76ers into East finals
GMA News
http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/259557/sports/basketball/nba-rondo-lifts-celtics-over-76ers-into-east-finals?ref=latest

BOSTON, Massachusetts — The Boston Celtics punched their ticket to the NBA Eastern Conference finals on Saturday with an 85-75 victory over Philadelphia behind a "triple-double" by Rajon Rondo.

Rondo scored 18 points with 10 assists and 10 rebounds as the Celtics won the decisive game seven in the Eastern Conference second-round series.

The Celtics will have little time to relax. They will open the best-of-seven Eastern conference finals in Miami against the star-studded Heat on Monday night and that winner will face San Antonio or Oklahoma City in the NBA Finals.

The Celtics led by three points when Paul Pierce fouled out with 4:16 remaining.

Rondo scored Boston's next nine points as the Celtics stretched their advantage to double-digits.

Rondo scored 11 points in the final quarter and notched his ninth career playoff "triple-double".

As the final seconds ticked off the clock, Boston fans began chanting "Beat the Heat!"

Celtics veteran Kevin Garnett, who had 18 points and 13 rebounds, echoed the sentiment.

"Let's do it!" Garnett said of tackling the Miami team led by NBA Most Valuable Player LeBron James and Dwyane Wade.

It will mark the third straight post-season that the Heat and Celtics meet.

Boston won in five games in 2010 in the first round and the Heat won in five last year in the second round.

Brandon Bass scored 16 and Pierce ended with 15 points and nine rebounds for Boston.

Andre Iguodala scored 18 points for Philadelphia, which had eliminated injury-plagued top seed Chicago in the first round.

Iguodala drained a three-pointer from the left corner with just over four minutes remaining to pull Philadelphia within 71-68.

Pierce then fouled out, but Rondo made sure the Sixers couldn't take advantage.

^^ Yup sinuwerte nga ang Celtics with Rondo's scoring outburst because Pierce fouled out at that point as the 76ers were making that last push. But I'm glad they won. If Bosh comes back early for the Heat vs Celtics series, I think the Heat will be able to beat the Celtics but if Bosh comes back later, Celtics may just take the series away from the Heat as it may be too late by then. I actually think the East (Celtics and Heat) is not as strong as the West (Spurs and Thunder) teams and so I'm of the opinion that whoever wins the West will also win the NBA Finals/Title. That's my prediction. Hehehe... :)

How important is Game 2 for the Thunder and the Celtics? According to ELIAS: No team in Thunder/Sonics franchise history has ever rebounded to win a 7-game-series after trailing 0-2. No team in Celtics franchise history has rebounded to win a 7-game-series after trailing 0-2 since 1969. They trailed the Lakers 0-2 in the finals that season and came back to win the series in 7 games.

Wow nice game by both teams tonite but have to congratulate the Thunder not just for the win but for how much they've grown as a team playing a very good and experienced Spurs team in this series. 1st two games, San Antonio just played them like rookies facing veterans but boy this last two games the Thunder showed what they're made of. A lesser team could have just folded and called it a day and tap their back for a season well done but boy they showed resilience and actually took it to the Spurs to even the series. I think this game 4 tonite was a real growth game for them more so than the one sided game 3 and from what I saw in the way they handled the pressure of a close game tonight I think this is a defining moment for them and makes me all the more confident of my earlier prediction that they are capable of actually beating this veteran Spurs team in this series to represent the West against the best of the East which i predicted will be represented by the Heat. I'm still sticking to my earlier fearless prediction that it will be a Thunder vs Heat Finals with the Thunder winning the NBA Finals and their 1st NBA title. Go Thunder!

Celtics one win away from NBA Finals after rallying past Heat for 3-2 lead
Fox Sports
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/LeBron-James-Dwyane-Wade-Chris-Bosh-Miami-Heat-lose-to-Paul-Pierce-Boston-Celtics-in-Game-5-060512

Paul Pierce watched the shot sail just over LeBron James' outstretched arm. And when it swished, he turned toward the Boston bench, shaking his head.

The biggest shot of the night, for certain.

And it put the Miami Heat in big trouble in these Eastern Conference finals.

Kevin Garnett finished with 26 points and 11 rebounds, Pierce scored 19 and the Celtics moved one win away from the East title by beating the Heat 94-90 on Tuesday night, taking a 3-2 lead in the series.

James finished with 30 points and 13 rebounds for Miami, though he went 8 minutes without scoring in the final quarter. Dwyane Wade scored 27 for the Heat, who got no more than nine from anyone else.

Pierce's 3-pointer with 53 seconds left put Boston up 90-86. Miami got within two points twice, and argued that it should have had a steal with 8.8 seconds left. Instead, a foul was called on Udonis Haslem, Garnett made two free throws, and the Celtics knew they had just stolen one on Miami's home floor.

Game 6 is Thursday night in Boston, where the Celtics will try to clinch a trip to either Oklahoma City or San Antonio for Game 1 of the NBA finals. The title series starts June 12.

The Celtics came into Tuesday a perfect 8-0 in this situation — a Game 5 with the series tied at 2-2 — with the core of Pierce, Garnett, Rondo and Allen. And some of James' most memorable moments have come in Game 5s, like the epic 48 points he scored when he carried Cleveland on every possession down the stretch at Detroit in 2007, and the 120-88 loss to the Celtics in 2010, his last home game with the Cavaliers.

So another Game 5, another classic show.

Given that it was the Celtics on one side and James on the other, few would have expected anything less.

This one offered more theater, of course. James hit a 3-pointer to give Miami a two-point lead with 8:10 left, closed out on Pierce to force an airball on the next possession, and eventually Miami pushed the margin out to 78-72 on a layup by Wade with 6:17 to play. On that play, James looked gassed, gasping for air as he stood near the baseline.

Those might have been the last gasps the Miami home crowd sees this season. Boston closed on a 22-12 run.

Boston tied the game twice early in the third quarter, before Miami peeled off nine straight points to go up 59-50. Four players scored for the Heat during that quick burst, highlighted by Shane Battier's corner 3-pointer and a lazy turnover from Rondo, who threw the ball into the backcourt without being pressured by any Miami defender.

But just as they did in the first half when Miami looked poised to pull away, the Celtics rallied — and then some. A 15-1 run gave the Celtics a truckload of momentum going into the fourth.

Garnett's dunk while being fouled by James Jones with 1:32 left tied it at 60-all, and Pietrus' long jumper on the next Boston possession gave the Celtics their first lead of the night. The Heat shot 35 percent in the quarter, and Boston took a 65-60 lead into the final 12 minutes after Keyon Dooling connected on a 3-pointer from near the Miami bench with 2 seconds left.

Garnett's jumper with 2:54 left put the Celtics back on top, and Mario Chalmers was assessed a technical foul after the play when referee Derrick Stafford whistled him for pushing Pietrus. Allen made the free throw for an 82-80 lead — but Chalmers, as if to atone, hit a 3-pointer on the next Miami possession for one lead change, followed immediately by another when Pietrus made a 3 at the other end.

Wade tied it at 85 with an acrobatic layup with 1:39 to play, but Miami never led again.

Miami didn't lead by more than eight points at any time in the three previous games of the series. The Heat changed that quickly, and maybe it was fitting that Chris Bosh got them their first double-digit advantage since Game 1.

Bosh came off the bench for his first minutes since straining a lower abdominal muscle in Game 1 of Miami's second-round series against Indiana. His three-point play with 1:17 left in the opening quarter — punctuated with a stare-down for some cheering fans — capped a 24-13 Miami run to open the game. James made a 3-pointer with 9:39 left in the half, and the Heat went up 31-18.

The Celtics did what Miami did to them in Games 3 and 4 at Boston. They started chipping away.

Miami missed 15 of its final 17 shots of the first half, with four turnovers thrown in there as well, and the Celtics took advantage. After James' 3-pointer, Boston outscored Miami 22-11 to close the second quarter — Garnett got six of his eight first-half points in the final 3:09 — and the once-sizable Heat lead was down to 42-40 by intermission.

Thunder prime and ready to be crowned kings of the West
Fox Sports

OKLAHOMA CITY — After a Game 5 win over the Spurs, Kevin Durant said he and his Thunder teammates never felt like they had to wait their turn in the NBA's version of "Game of Thrones."
Maybe Durant's right. There's no hierarchy in the association, at least since Michael Jordan retired and left the many kingdoms of the league to muddle over the aristocracy.

Heading into this season, Dallas was the defending champ, but the 2012 talk was all about LeBron James and the Heat. Later in the season, 20 wins in a row shifted the conversation toward the Spurs.

Not anymore. After a road win Monday, the Thunder are set to play their next biggest game, this one even bigger than the last. They are a win away from their first NBA Finals appearance, against the guys who seemingly always have been in the way for the past decade-plus.

Game 6 against San Antonio will be in arguably the best environment in the league, ripe with a collegiate feel from a crowd that at any other time would be divided between red (Oklahoma) and orange (Oklahoma State). Wednesday, it will be united in Thunder blue, and they'll see something they haven't seen all season.

Oklahoma City is the favorite to win the whole thing.

It might not be the Thunder's turn, but it is Oklahoma City's first game as the new NBA king. The Thunder haven't been in this position before. They've been close, making the Western Conference finals last season and again this year, but never until now had Oklahoma City been the team to beat.

No other way to see it now. The Spurs might have won 20 in a row, but now they have lost three straight, putting the Thunder in position, with just a single home win, to make the Finals, something that might have been talked about but not expected until Monday's road win.

And perhaps, unlike the rest of the teams that have taken their turn at the front, the Thunder may be uniquely equipped to handle the pressure of the position.

Here are two reasons why:

Reason No. 1: No givens

Take a step back, and not that far back. In 2008, when Durant had just a year of experience and Russell Westbrook was a rookie, the two teamed to lose their first two games of the season before winning one, then lost 14 in a row. That team went on to a 3-29 start, fired its coach and named Scott Brooks as the interim coach.

That experience means winning and winning big isn't something that has been granted to the two stars. They know what it's like to be on the business end. Unlike the Heat or the Spurs, the Thunder are new to the being at the top and treat it as a privilege.

On Monday, Durant explained that being in the Western Conference finals was just another opportunity to improve. To get better. Not exactly the kind of thing a spoiled kid would say.

Brooks constantly reminds anyone who will listen that his team is about defense first. Brooks says Durant is great, but still works to get better.

Reason No. 2: Lots of contributors

For the Thunder, the playoffs have been about different people on different nights. It's been about cutting down on turnovers after leading the league in turnovers.

Durant scored 16 in a row in a Game 4 win. In the closing quarter of Game 5 he watched James Harden make the clutch plays. In Games 3 and 4, Westbrook struggled offensively, but Serge Ibaka didn't miss in Game 4 and Kendrick Perkins dominated, but Harden struggled. Then in Game 5, Westbrook rebounded with 23 points and 12 assists.

Lots of options. Lots of opportunity. Yes, Durant has proven to be the best bet. He's a three-time scoring champ and hit game-winners against Dallas twice and the Lakers during this run. He beat the Spurs by himself with a heroic performance in Game 4. But it was Harden who saved the game Monday. It was Thabo Sefolosha who slowed Tony Parker in Game 3.

This isn't a cafeteria. Just because they're the next up doesn't mean they're ready to sit down. These Thunder sure seem to be different from the rest.

Thunder's biggest test, Spurs' last stand?
ESPN
http://espn.go.com/blog/truehoop/post/_/id/44958/thunders-big-test-spurs-last-stand

OKLAHOMA CITY -- We play amateur GM right until the trade deadline and play amateur coach throughout the playoffs, so why not play amateur psychologist for the most significant game in Oklahoma City Thunder history?

I’m curious to see how the Thunder react to the first time in this series that they’ve had to play with the additional burden of expectations. They weren’t supposed to win any of the games in San Antonio. Even a loss in the first game played in Oklahoma City could have easily been explained by the fact that they were facing the hottest team in the league, a squad that was unbeaten since April 11. Sure, there was pressure to win and avoid falling behind 3-0. Pressure is different from expectations.

It wasn’t preordained that the Thunder would win this series. Now it’s theirs to lose. All they have to do is win this one game at home, and they’ll be on to the NBA Finals. That’s a new dynamic. We see it all the time in Grand Slam tennis events, when a lower-seeded player dominates for three sets, then puts together a string of double faults when it’s time to serve for the match. There’s something awe-inspiring and a bit terrifying about having the goals you’ve worked so hard to accomplish right in front of you.

The good news for the Thunder is that they have a formula that works. There’s been nothing but positive reinforcement the past three games. Play a certain way, and they’ll win. They know this.

"It’s one game, one day, and you have to focus on that,” Thunder coach Scott Brooks said. “We have a great opportunity. We’re on our home floor, but that doesn’t guarantee automatic victory. They’re not going to give us the game. They’re not going to say, ‘We lost three in a row, we’re going to give in.’ We know we have a tough challenge ahead, we know we have a great opportunity. We just have to play with the same energy, the same force, the same determination that we did the last few games.”

Sometimes keeping things the same when all the surrounding circumstances have changed is the biggest challenge. Brooks seemed a tad tighter, a little warier of saying the wrong thing, of dropping any hint that the Thunder are already envisioning themselves in the Finals. That was one indication that this is different. On Wednesday night we’ll look for it in the players’ demeanor, in their rhythms at the free throw line, in their execution of the offense. Can they maintain what they’ve done so successfully the past three games?

The two conference finals have followed the same path but with distinctly different plot devices: While the Boston Celtics are clinging to what they’ve established, the Thunder are blossoming into something new.

“They have gotten better each game,” Spurs shooting guard Stephen Jackson said. “They’re starting to pay more attention on defense in this series than the previous series. I think the kids are just focused. They got to the Western Conference finals last year and weren’t successful. They’re playing hard to keep it going this year. But it’s our job to try and stop it.”

The Spurs are trying to keep their old machine going as well. There’s no talk about breaking up the core and dumping the coach emanating from San Antonio the way it is in Miami this morning. The Spurs are all about stability. Sustainability, however, could be a different matter.

“I believe that as long as we all play and we’re all healthy, we’re going to have opportunities every year,” Spurs shooting guard Manu Ginobili said. “But of course, Tim [Duncan] is 36, I’m going to be 35 soon. You can’t play this forever, and we know that the window is” -- here he made a small gap with his thumb and index finger -- “closing. It’s a great opportunity, and we want to grab it.”

Ginobili prefaced his comments by saying he didn’t want to get in trouble like Tony Parker did last year, a reference to Parker’s comments to French sports journal L’Equipe: that the 2010-11 season “was our last chance. Tim and Gino are getting old. It’s going to be tough to regenerate ourselves. We will always have a good team, but we can no longer say that we’re playing for a championship.”

Until this week the Spurs’ season defied his words. Except now the Thunder have swooped in and put themselves in position to play for the championship. It’s possible that the toughest obstacle remaining is in their own heads.

Imagine if the Heat actually beats the Celtics, Heat's journey will be the East's version of the Thunder's cinderella season in the West which makes for a really compelling and epic series between Thunder vs Heat. But in terms of historical record point of view definitely better if the series is between Thunder vs Celtics. This way Thunder would have beat past champs the Mavs, Lakers, Spurs, and even the iconic Celtics. Either way I'm of the opinion that it won't matter if it's the Heat or Celtics end up facing the Thunder because both East teams will lose to the best team of the West. This is the season the Thunder finally becomes champion. I'm sticking with my original prediction that the Thunder will win the NBA Finals and it's first NBA title. Durant of course will also win the Finals MVP. Go Thunder! :okay: :okay:

Could we see Kendrick Perkins vs. Kevin Garnett in the NBA Finals?

Not to put the cart in front of the horse, but after the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday night to win the Western Conference, it will be hard for some Boston fans not to start daydreaming about a potential NBA Finals matchup between the Celtics and old friend Kendrick Perkins.

Alas, there's plenty of work still to be done by the Celtics but Boston who owns a 3-2 edge over the Miami Heat can end it tonight and make this dream matchup with OKC Thunder a reality.

had bosh not been injured, this wouldn't have gone to a game 7. some of the bad news for the celtics are these:

1.) game 6 was a rust wiggler for bosh and miami still won. bosh will enter game 7 with a huge part of his rust behind him. one of the reasons why kevin garnet looks very good in the series so far is because of bosh defensive absence in the painted area. his offensive presence in the paint would also make the celtics defense clamp down within that same area. that should free miami's chalmers, et al from downtown at longer stretches of the game. all these not to mention the fact that he is well rested. not really good prospects if you're a celtics fan.

2.) in terms of statistical possibilities, d. wade is due for an explosion. it's been like 3 or 4 games that he has had lackluster offensive performances, especially in the first half. the return of bosh that affects the celtics' defensive rotation further bolsters wade's case for a big offensive output come game 7.

3.) lebron, the most scrutinized player these past 2 seasons is out to prove (or disprove) many things. his team facing elimination, there were no flamboyant high fives in the game 6 victory. it was a superb 45 point, 15 rebound, and 5 assist performance but lebron's game-face was all business. he'll carry that over in game 7.

4.) it's miami's home court in a clincher game. hometown fans are always the 6th man as they say.

most likely, we will be seeing a heat-thunder finals. the prospect has both flash and substance. it is loaded with star power. in the ratings game, the NBA will surely be happy about that prospect.

the sub plots are also interesting. MVP vs MVP runner up. who will shine on basketball's biggest stage? if both of them will shine, whose light will be brighter? that said, in these playoffs, i'm amazed at kevin durant's ability to take the winning shot if the game is close. he is in the mold of a kobe bryant or jordan-- never afraid to take the big shot and has a good/great chance of making it when the game is on the line.

but before we get too excited--whether you're a miami hater or lover--the celtics still has one more game to spoil it all. they are a proud team with a proud and illustrious winning tradition. and they have a very good coach to plot his clever schemes one more time. ah, possibilities!

had bosh not been injured, this wouldn't have gone to a game 7. some of the bad news for the celtics are these:

Kobe is good but not good enough to will his team into the NBA finals despite having Gasol and Bynum. Individual "Hero-Ball' basketball does not get you to the promise land after all the game of basketball is a team sport. And it's that team ball (teamwork) concept how the Thunder have been winning their games/series against talented teams. Thunder was able to beat teams like the Lakers and the Spurs because eventhough they were not necessarily more talented than those 2 but they proved to be the better/superior team. All the more in the NBA Finals, it will be teamwork and defense that will win you the NBA Title and that's why I don't really see Miami Heat's Lebron and Dwade Hero-ball basketball having a good chance of actually beating the more team basketball oriented play of the OKC Thunder, with Durant, Westbrook and Harden sharing the ball and leading the way, if ever the 2 teams meet in the NBA Finals. That's why I'm predicting the Thunder to win the series and their 1st NBA title. Thunder is really the best team this year without a doubt.

Funny how there's actually more infatuation with this whole LeBron individual accomplishment thing than that of his team the Miami Heat trying to win it's 2nd NBA title with LeBron, Dwade, etc. Just amazing how it's almost expected of him (LeBron) by many that he'll be the hero/savior who'll just take over the game and win it single-handedly for the Heat. Perhaps maybe game 7 quite possibly but not in the NBA Finals I would think. Sad to say Kobe tried and failed already and LeBron as good as he is will fail as well with that Hero-ball play if ever the Heat end up playing the Thunder. OKC Thunder is just too good a team to be beaten by 1 person (Lebron), even perhaps 2 (Dwade) in the case of the Heat, playing hero-ball basketball. 2 vs 5 will not cut it. I just don't see it happening. Thunder will prevail imho.

LeBron's place in history depends on winning Game 7 and NBA title

MIAMI - Remember LeBron James' epic 48-point performance, including scoring his team's final 25 points, in a 2007 playoff double-overtime win at Detroit?

Of course you do. After winning that game, James' Cleveland Cavaliers two days later closed out the series to advance to his first NBA Finals.

How about James' dramatic last-second winning three-pointer that culminated a 35-point night and gave his Cavaliers a win over Orlando in Game 2 of the 2009 Eastern Conference finals?

OK, you probably do remember it. But it hasn't gone down in history as a moment as big as it could have been. That's because the Cavaliers ended up losing a six-game series in which James averaged 38.5 points.

That brings us to James' greatest night in his two years with Miami. He totaled 45 points, 15 rebounds and five assists Thursday in a 98-79 win at Boston to keep the Heat's season alive and tie these East finals 3-3.

How will that performance be remembered?

"I think it all depends on Game 7," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "Obviously, if they win tomorrow then that Game 6 you'll remember. If we win tomorrow, the Game 6 will be just another great game."

So the Hall of Fame might want to hold off on requesting James' headband from Thursday until after we see what unfolds in Game 7.

There will be some who insist James' fantastic Game 6 only will stand the test of time if the Heat win Saturday and then James goes on to win his first championship. We'll have to see how that plays out.

As for the game against Detroit in 2007 that paved the way for James to make his first Finals appearance, one reason that has endured is that Cleveland wasn't expected to get there that season. The Cavaliers were swept in the Finals by San Antonio, but it was a miracle James was able to steer them that far with his misfit supporting cast.

James knows it's too early to determine how his impressive showing Thursday will go down in history, so he wasn't getting too fired up talking about it following the game.

"I don't know," James said when asked whether it was his greatest playoff performance. "I haven't watched the film or anything like that. I just tried to make plays for our team throughout the whole game."

James spoke in such a matter-of-fact tone it could have been confused for an interview following a preseason game. That's because he knows his job is far from done.

Rivers also knows this series is far from over. He figures if his Celtics play their normal brand of defense Saturday, they've got as much of a shot as Miami does to advance to the Finals and face Oklahoma City.

"We're not going to do much," Rivers said when asked Friday about defensive changes on James. "We do what we do. Defensively, for the most part we have to do it better. Obviously, LeBron had a great game. I thought there were things we should have done better in the game with the way we were playing him, and we didn't do that. So that's the first thing we have to correct, and if we have to do something else, we'll do it."

Rivers figures his Celtics could withstand another 45-point game from James if he takes a lot of shots. After all, James had 45 on 14 of 29 shooting in Game 7 of a 2008 East semifinal between Cleveland and Boston, but Rivers' team won 97-92.

If James shoots 19 of 26, which is what he did Thursday, Rivers knows there might not be much hope for Boston. That sort of marksmanship was one reason Miami coach Erik Spoelstra still was gushing Friday over James' game.

"A fearless performance," Spoelstra called it. "It will probably go down as a historic playoff performance. We needed every bit and minute of it, and maybe we'll need that again. But he's a brilliant basketball player that will read the game and whatever we need. Maybe it's more assists, maybe it's rebounds, who knows? But he'll be there (Saturday)."

How historic it will be will depend upon what happens Saturday. And even if the Heat do win Game 7, it also might depend upon what happens in the Finals.

After all, it's not rare that James scores 40 or more points in a playoff game. He's now done it 11 times, and there are many who wonder why all those great games still haven't translated into a title.

Rivers said that, with the possible exception of Tiger Woods in recent years, he's never seen an athlete scrutinized as much as James.

"He's a great player," Rivers said. "I don't know what else he can do. He does the right things. When he makes the right pass and a guy misses a shot, he's criticized. When he forces a shot in a double team, he's criticized. It's just the way it is for him for whatever reason. He's competitive as heck. He's one of the most powerful players to play the game. Maybe it isn't enough. I don't know."

If Rivers can find a way for his Celtics to beat the Heat in Game 7, it once again won't be enough from James.

Eh kung ma KO ang Celtics ng Heat, ma KO din kaya siya ni Bradley kasi distracted siya sa pagkatalo ng Celtics o di kaya i KO niya si Bradley sa sobrang galit niya? Those are the 2 likely scenarios because the Celtics will lose against the Heat tonite, atleast that's my prediction. For my Pacquiao prediction I think Pacman will KO Bradley.

Would Lamar Odom Be A Good Fit On The Knicks?

A few weeks ago it was reported that Lamar Odom would put the New York Knicks number one on his list of the possible teams that he would want to play for in the 2012-13 season. Due to NBA rules he isn’t allowed to re-sign with the Lakers for one year, so that rules out where most figured he would want to go.

Here’s a few reasons why I think that Lamar Odom would be a perfect fit on the Knicks.

Let’s throw out last season because a lot of things on and off the court were effecting Lamar and ultimately showed in his play. Before that, in the 2010-11 season, Lamar played in all 82 games and averaged 14.4ppg, 8.7rpg and 3.0apg while winning the Sixth Man of the Year award.

Lamar, when focused, is an extremely versatile big man. He’s 6’10 and has above average rebounding ability, can spread the floor with his ability to hit perimeter jump shots and has the ball handling ability to be the facilitator of a team at times.

Lamar’s the type of player that can give you a lot of everything and quite frankly the Knicks don’t have anybody coming off the bench that has versatility like Odom. Lamar would also be a bargain pickup as his value is at an all time low. The Knicks would probably get him for a small portion of their Mid-Level Exception or with wishful thinking and more unlikely at the Veteran Minimum. There isn’t going to be a free agent on the market that can impact the Knicks the way Lamar could at that value.

Lamar would also be coming home which would make you think that he would be happy and focused. The hometown kid grew up in South Jamaica, Queens and went to Christ The King Regional High School where he played for his first three years of high school. I think that a return home to a place where fans will embrace him might be exactly just what Lamar needs at this stage of his career.

Overall, I think when you factor everything, picking up Lamar Odom in free agency would be a good decision. The Knicks need to make moves in order to make themselves championship contenders. Bringing in a guy with championship experience and the versatility of Lamar makes the positives outweigh the negatives in this case. Sure, Lamar may never be the player that he once was but the possibility that he could be is worth taking a chance for.

Why OKC Thunder Can Be NBA's Next Great Dynasty
Bleacherreport

The Oklahoma City Thunder are heading to the 2012 NBA Finals—and it won't be the last time.

For all the talk surrounding the hastily constructed Miami Heat or the declining San Antonio Spurs and Los Angeles Lakers, no team has a better chance of dominating the next decade than the one Kevin Durant is taking to what may be its first title.

As we should all know by now, the Thunder are the real deal.

The Thunder may have just one trip to the finals soon under their belt, but this was no ordinary postseason for Scott Brooks' young and already dominant squad.

Nor was this season a fluke by any stretch of the imagination—the Thunder were close last year, too. This is the culmination of a franchise rebuilding, with a few draft picks that turned out pretty well: Kevin Durant in 2007, Russell Westbrook and Serge Ibaka in 2008 and James Harden in 2009.

How good were those draft decisions?

Good enough that OKC was able to make short work of the Dallas Mavericks and Los Angeles Lakers, and good enough to overcome an 0-2 hole against the San Antonio Spurs to deny Tim Duncan a shot at his fifth ring.

There's been no shortage of epic symbolism along the way.

The upstart Thunder beat a lineup of teams that epitomize what it means to contend in the Western Conference. The Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers and San Antonio Spurs account for 10 NBA championships since 1999.

In a sequence that seemed scripted at every turn, the Thunder made the reigning champion Mavericks look old, while the Lakers were simply outgunned in the second round. As for the Spurs, it just seemed like OKC wanted it more.

Sometimes, that's all it takes.

In the process, a torch has also been passed to Kevin Durant—the lanky shooter who was drafted after Greg Oden in a draft that singularly spited the Pacific Northwest.

Durant did the same things Kobe Bryant has done for the last 16 years—only this time, he did them to Kobe Bryant. He deferred when it was time for Harden or Westbrook to shine, and he took games over when it was his turn.

He also took a note from Dirk Nowitzki's playbook, becoming a pure shooter who's just too tall to stop.

And he surely shares a resemblance to Tim Duncan but not because of any on-court similarities. Durant is, quite simply, the NBA's new Nice Guy—the humble, small-market superstar on a collision course with the Dark Side that is LeBron James and the Miami Heat.

Of course, it isn't just that the Thunder feel like the next team in line to be a dynastic force in the NBA, but they're built like one, too. And not just because they have arguably the league's best player in hand for six more years before he even turns 30.

The Thunder have built a dangerous roster that's capable of winning for a long time to come. They have the kind of individual talent that can excel in transition, isolation or the post, as well as have the ability to share the ball in half-court sets and grind out slower games. Few teams are so versatile.

The interior defense is there, the quickness and athleticism are there, and the shooting is most certainly there. It's a team that can beat you in so many ways.

This is a team of superstars hitting their primes and role players who do their jobs—a combination for success that isn't changing anytime soon.

http://network.yardbarker.com/nba/article_external/would_lamar_odom_be_a_good_fit_on_the_knicks/10968035

There is a pending arbitration request from the NBA union to give J.Lin and Steve Novak early "Bird" rights which would give New York an exception of sorts by being able to resign both J.Lin and Steve Novak without the use of their $5M MLE which they can then use to sign a free agent. Coincidentally there were reports that Lamar Odom wanted to be closer to his wife Khloe Kardashian who has a reality show with her sister Kim in NY. According to these reports, Odom's agent has been sending inquiries whether New York might be interested. Then came the article from Yardbarker. Guess it really depends on whether the Knicks do end up getting a favorable decision which would allow them to use their $5M MLE on somebody else. Though I still think the Knicks need another point guard, I do have to agree that Odom would be a good addition/fit to this Knicks team like you said. Let's see what happens.

By Marc J. Spears | Yahoo! Sports – Fri, Jun 8, 2012 6:36 PM EDT

CHICAGO – Doc Rivers has guided the Boston Celtics to the brink of a third trip in five years to the NBA Finals. With the Celtics now facing a seventh and deciding game against the Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference finals, their coach has been busy with game preparation, practices, travel and media obligations. Rivers has, however, found some time in his schedule for one other important duty: advising his son Austin, who is preparing for the NBA draft.

“It’s tough because his schedule right now is crazy and so is mine,” Austin Rivers said.

“I’m just trying to take things step by step and so is he. He keeps up with everything I do. He talks about everything with me. Every workout I go to, he is calling me to make sure everything is all right. He always says, 'Make sure you do this,' or, 'Make sure you do that.'

"He’s still a dad at the end of the day. Even though he’s a coach and his job is crazy, he’s still always there."

Austin Rivers' talent has given him his own hoop identity outside of his father. He became the third freshman to ever lead Duke in scoring this past season when he was named the ACC's Freshman of the Year. He also earned a spot in Duke-North Carolina rivalry lore by making a buzzer-beating 3-pointer in a victory at Chapel Hill, N.C.

"He’s a confident and aggressive scorer with no conscience when it comes to scoring," one long-time Eastern Conference scout said. "He’s more of a volume, streak scorer. At times he can play selfish in terms of making sure his teammates are involved."

This year’s draft is regarded as one of the deepest in recent years. Still, Rivers thought he was ready to turn pro after one college season. His dad agreed.

Did Coach Mike Dunleavy and Coach George Karl do the same for their sons, Mike Dunleavy Jr. and Coby Karl, respectively?

James led Heat to face Durant's Thunder in NBA finals
Fox Sports

After surviving those old Celtics, LeBron James and the Heat get the Thunder's young guns in the NBA finals.

Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and the rest of the Western Conference champions will host Game 1 on Tuesday night when the NBA's championship series comes to Oklahoma City for the first time.

The Thunder finally got their opponent Saturday night when the Heat finished off the Celtics with a 101-88 victory in Game 7, sending Miami to its second straight finals berth and giving James a third attempt at his first ring.

James had 31 points and 12 rebounds to set up a marquee matchup with Durant, the NBA's scoring champion whom he beat out for the league's MVP award.

''We all know how tough it's going to be but we're going to fight to the end no matter what, leave it out on floor and we'll live with the results,'' Durant said.

James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh fell short in their first season together, losing in six games to Dallas last year. The Heat earned another chance by winning the final two games against the Celtics, whose older legs might have run out of steam after Boston led the decisive game by seven at halftime.

Energy won't be a problem for the Thunder, whose core of 23-year-old Durant, the league's three-time scoring champion, Westbrook (23) and James Harden (22) was born when the Celtics' Big Three of Kevin Garnett, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce was around middle school age.

The Thunder, who moved to Oklahoma City in 2008, roll into their franchise's first finals appearance since the Seattle SuperSonics lost to Chicago in 1996. They surged past San Antonio by winning the final four games after dropping the first two to the No. 1 seed.

After eliminating defending champion Dallas and the Lakers in the first two rounds, the Thunder look to knock out another heavyweight in the Heat, the 2006 NBA champions.

The Thunder will host the first two games before the series moves to Miami for Games 3-5.

The teams split a pair of meetings during the regular season, each winning at home.

About four days ago, when the Celtics beat Miami to advance 3-2, many critics started hitting on Spoelstra, even hinting his job was at stake. He was “out-schooled” “out-strategized” “out-coached” by Doc Rivers. To me, this was outright stupid thinking, not analyzing Spoelstra’s work even before the Lebron days and after signing Lebron, bringing Miami to the elite of the NBA.

Well, the Heat just massacred the Celtics by 20 …. do they give Spoelstra credit? In the US, there’s distinct bias against us Asians (refer to Jessica Sanchez.) Now that they are in the Finals, do they give credits to Spoelstra?

There is no bigger coaching challenge than having to cajole, motivate, direct superstars with big egos …. and Miami has three superstars in “the Big Three.” What Spoelstra has done shows that he has accomplished a lot, not inferior to anyone.

anyway, i wanted to win the aging CELTICS, but i my hats off to MIAMI, a win deserved. Congrats:)

anyway, huge upset by Bradley :ohno: And its time to eat humble pie for i myself didnt expect this coming. nakakapikon nga:bash:

Parks’ 30 points help Bulldogs snare first ever Flying V final slot
[i]by inboundpass
Saturday, 9 June 2012

Sophomore Bobby Ray Parks handed the National University Bulldogs their first ever final slot in the 2012 FilOil Flying V Preseason Cup.

Parks tallied 30 points along with 6 rebounds and 2 steals to guide the Bulldogs to a convincing 85-68 win against the listless Ateneo Blue Eagles at FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan City.

“It is a collective effort. My teammates also contributed huge in this game,” said the son of eight-time Philippine Basketball Association Best import winner. “We cannot afford to lose against Ateneo. We must prove something.”

Parks, who shot 10-of-13 in the field with two triples, anchored the Bulldogs’ offense in the first quarter where he scored three baskets for a 25-16 advantage at the start of second period.

The Blue Eagles, who relied mostly on the inside presence of 7-footer Greg Slaughter, struggled hitting their shots most of the way as the Bulldogs’ hardnosed defense was all over the court.

Slaughter led Ateneo with 21 points, seven rebounds and three blocked shots, while had Nico Salva made 14-points, however, Kiefer Ravena was limited to only 8- points in 31 minutes.

“Facing Ateneo is like climbing the tallest mountain, but my players did their best to overcome the odds. They believe in their selves that they can do it,” said NU mentor Eric Altamirano. “We are looking forward now in the championship game.”
After the game’s 3rd deadlock at 10-all, the Blue Eagles led momentarily 12-10 then Bulldogs sprinted to a 22-14 lead and were unstoppable the rest of the way the rest of the way. The Bulldogs busted Ateneo with an impressive 51% from the field, topping their preseason league average of 45%.

Kyle Neypes’ two free throws gave NU an 80-61 lead with only two minutes left in the game and the Bulldogs didn’t look back.

Forward Jeoff Javillonar racked up 13 points while Denice Villamor got 12 points and Emmanuel Mbe scored 10 points for the still unbeaten Bulldogs, which posted what was used to be an improbable 10 wins in a preseason tournament.
NU out-rebounded Ateneo, 37-33 and more 2nd chance points with 18-points compared to Ateneo’s 10.

NU (85) – Parks 30, Javillonar 13, Villamor 12, Mbe 10, Neypes 7, Alolino 5, De Guzman 3, Roño 3, Ignacio 2
ADMU (68) – Slaughter 21, Salva 14, Ravena 8, Tiongson 8, Sumalinog 6, Gonzaga 5, Buenafe 2, Chua 2, Elorde 2

^^No Ateneo-DLSU game this Tuesday. Per inboundpass, DLSU beat San Beda to set up a DLSU-NU finals.

Am still trying to digest how Lasal beat San Beda …. 50-46. A top-notch collegiate game with that score is weird and I heard/read that it was a “physical” game …. meaning the refs must’ve either swallowed their whistle ….. or some other strange thing. At any rate, there will be an UAAP-NCAA game between the reigning champions ….. for third place. In the Fil-oil therefore, another UAAP team will be crowned champs …. and it ain’t gonna be the Ateneo.
