Wrong-o, Buck-o. If that were the case, then why do I live in a 1928 art deco skyscraper that has certainly seen better days (but, admittedly, is being restored to it's former granduer)?

The Metropolitan [was] a very cool building, but I can't get over the fact that it was butchered in the 1960s. Those black panels that it was reclad with are so gorgeous. Not only that, but the building is in dire need of maintenance. For example, during the winter months, the heating system in the building regularly breaks down since the boiler is still original and cannot be replaced since it is located in the basement of the building.

DallasTexan
September 11th, 2004, 03:12 AM
The original is always the best, wouldn't you agree?

DallasTexan

Yes, that's the original.

Here's a picture of the "modernized" Metropolitan:

Sadly, it looks worse in real life.

191 is a simply awesome structure.

The Westin Peachtree is a fabulous hotel.

The city could landscape Peachtree with trees and plants to make it look better.

There ;)

Monkey

I appreciate it, DallasTexan! :)

Moreover, I agree with you on all counts, particularly your 3rd point, which is (almost) universally applicable.

Why? I'm a plants freak. The urban environment in a gazillion places could be greatly enhanced enormously through thoughtful installation of plants ... trees, shubs, vines ... preferably of the scented variety ...

Restored to its former glory, u mean how it looked when it was first built?

Atlanta`s skyline although littered with the usual boring glass boxes, has some interesting skyscrapers the 191 one is a real looker! The late 80`s and early 90`s seemed to produce quite a few interesting buildings, mixing old styles with new. Of course now though everything has to be glass glass glass.
