Potsdam was soooo beautiful, and truly Prussian. Triumphal and modest at the same time.

I've seen these on youtube before but it's certainly very weird to see things like Dresden's altstadt in moving pictures just a short time before it was incinerated.

I agree. It had a classical beauty that was totally serene and confident. This post-war photo of the the stadtschloss looks hauntingly like a ruined temple from ancient Greece:
