Wiesbaden is the capital of the state of Hessen, the state in which Frankfurt is located as well. The city suffered only minor damage during WW2 and used to be home to the Dukes of Nassau, giving it a nice "royal" heritage which can be seen in the city's architecture as well.

In the historic center of the city:

Cause it shows you just how relatively ugly Frankfurt is (in comparison). ;)

Quick history lesson. The inscription reads "Loyal to the fatherland I will remain until I die" which is also part of the Dutch national anthem. The Dukes of Nassau and the Dutch royal house are closely related.

Thanks.

Yeah, it really is one of the nicer big German cities, after all it has a population of more than 275,000 people. Most other cities in that range were bombed into oblivion during WW2.

I thought this was going to be a crime-ridden suburban city of Frankfurt but it's much the opposite. It's very, very nice!

Wasn't this one bombed?

Kampflamm
March 11th, 2011, 05:57 PM
Not really. It sustained some minor damage but nothing compared to what happened to Frankfurt or Mainz.
