Sidi Ifni (Arabic: سيدي إفني) is a city located in southwest Morocco, next to the Atlantic Ocean. It has a population of 20,000 people. The economic base of the city is fishing.

History

In 1476, Sidi Ifni was occupied by Spain. It remained in Spanish hands until 1524 when it was captured by Saadian rulers.

In 1860, following the Spanish-Moroccan War, Morocco conceded Sidi Ifni and the territory of Ifni to Spain as a part of the Treaty of Tangiers. During the scramble of Africa in 1884, Spain acquired what is now Western Sahara. Spain administered Sidi Ifni and Western Sahara jointly.

Morocco invaded Sidi Ifni in 1957 and was repulsed. In 1969, due to Moroccan pressure, Spain relinquished Sidi Ifni to Morocco.

Nunca hubo Embajada de España en Sidi Ifni. El edificio así designado probablemente fuera la sede del Gobierno durante la administración española.

Este plano señala con el número 5 el antiguo Consulado (que no Embajada) español en Sidi Ifni. El edificio perteneció a la Administración Militar española, y al ser devuelto a Marruecos el territorio de Ifni se estableció allí un Consulado para gestionar los intereses de los ciudadanos españoles que quedasen en el lugar. Pocos años después el Consulado fue suprimido y desde entonces el edificio permanece en estado de total abandono.

El escudo que campea en su fachada responde a la simbología del régimen político del General Franco, algo ya desaparecido de los edificios públicos españoles.

La récupération de Sidi Ifni, une date mémorable dans le processus de parachèvement de l'intégrité territoriale du Royaume
Rabat- Le peuple marocain tout entier, à sa tête la famille de la résistance, commémore, ce mardi, le 40-ème anniversaire du retour Sidi Ifni à la mère-patrie, le 30 juin 1969, une date importante dans le processus de parachèvement de l'intégrité territoriale du Royaume.

L'évènement est célébré chaque année dans la joie et la fierté par tous les Marocains, qui tiennent ainsi à rendre un vibrant hommage aux grands nationalistes et patriotes, hommes et femmes, à leur tête le libérateur de la nation, feu SM Mohammed V, et le guide du combat pour le parachèvement de l'intégrité territoriale, feu SM Hassan II.

Les valeureux membres des tribus Aït Baamrane ont donné, à cette occasion, une preuve vivante de courage, de nationalisme et de lutte contre le colonialisme, signant ainsi une page glorieuse de l'histoire du Maroc. L'on citera notamment le soulèvement des Aït Baamrane face aux autorités d'occupation qui avaient décidé d'imposer, en 1946, la nationalité espagnole aux habitants. Ces tribus ont même été le fer de lance de la résistance nationale dans le sud du Maroc et les pourvoyeurs des nationalistes du Nord en armes à travers leurs cellules de résistance. Ce faisant, ils affirmaient leur attachement à leur marocanité et au Trône Alaouite.

De par sa situation stratégique et ses ressources, Sidi Ifni était convoitée par l'Espagne qui l'a occupée en 1934 et l'a déclarée "Capitale du gouvernement d'Afrique du Nord espagnole".

Le soulèvement, en 1957, des tribus Aït Baamrane sous la conduite du glorieux trône alaouite et en étroite collaboration avec la famille de la résistance, constitue une autre étape importante vers le recouvrement de la liberté et de l'indépendance.

En 1963, le regretté SM Hassan II avait saisi l'occasion d'une escale à Madrid pour rappeler au chef de l'Etat espagnol de l'époque que le Maroc entendait, en toute légitimité, reprendre l'enclave d'Ifni sous sa souveraineté.

Après d'intenses négociations engagées sous l'égide du comité des Nations Unies pour la décolonisation, le Royaume est parvenu à faire valoir son droit naturel et légitime à la récupération de cette partie intégrante de son territoire. Les couleurs nationales furent hissées le 30 juin 1969 dans le ciel de Sidi Ifni, à la grande joie du peuple tout entier.

La ville a eu, le 18 mai 1972, le privilège d'accueillir Feu SM Hassan II, qui a ainsi consacré l'importance et l'intérêt accordés au sud du Maroc.

Les événements historiques de Sidi Ifni et d'autres lieux du territoire national ont eu pour effet de consolider l'esprit patriotique qui anime tout un chacun et de conforter la détermination des nationalistes à consentir le sacrifice suprême pour le triomphe de leur cause.

Aujourd'hui, la commémoration annuelle de ce glorieux événement est une façon de préserver la mémoire nationale, celle qui relate aux générations futures les exploits de leurs ancêtres et leurs significations profondes, en vue de stimuler leur sens de patriotisme et de les armer contre toutes les manigances hostiles à la Nation.

Le Haut Commissariat aux anciens résistants et anciens membres de l'armée de libération commémore cet évènement par un important programme, mardi à Tiznit, comprenant un meeting, puis un hommage à treize anciens résistants ainsi qu'une remise d'aides sociales et financières aux membres de la famille de la résistance de la région. Le programme s'achèvera par la signature d'une convention de partenariat portant sur la préservation de la mémoire nationale, par le Haut Commissariat aux anciens résistants et anciens membres de l'armée de libération et le conseil des Oulémas de la ville de Tiznit.

Située sur la côte atlantique sud à 160 km au sud d'Agadir et 60 km au nord de Guelmim. On considère souvent Sidi Ifni comme « la porte Atlantique du Sahara »

Oui, il y a deux photos, les deux derniéres du post numero 4 sont dans la route d'Ifni mais plus proche de Mirleft en effet.

the city is so marginalizated and the situation of roads and infrastructures is so pathetic
but it doesn't means thats the city and landscapes and beaches aren't really amazing

Oh about that i'm totally agree, that's why people of ifni doing the intifada against the makhzen in 2008, ifni was the bigest city in south morocco at the time of spain, laayoune at this time was nothing, today ifni is so small and makhzen don't interess to this region, all is for tiznit and guelmim, Sidi Ifni need moreeeeeeeeeeee !!!
