View Full Version : Is millennium tower in HongKong real?
jyjin July 13th, 2004, 05:19 PM I found this news in discovery: http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/eti/projects/towermain.html
Is this news real or just a fiction? Anybody has any idea? The same company Foster and Partners built one in Tokyo in 1989, and the picture on their website looks exactly the same as in discovery.
vincent July 14th, 2004, 03:51 AM no way. I believe that was a mistake.
Dennis July 14th, 2004, 09:35 AM we will never see that one
scorpion July 14th, 2004, 10:06 AM U/C in HK 2013 :D
zergcerebrates July 14th, 2004, 02:36 PM Everything is possible for HK
raymond_tung88 July 14th, 2004, 04:12 PM Tokyo doesn't have one of those buildings. Its just impossible and stupid to build it there. Its an active earth-quake zone so nothing really high can be built there.
jyjin July 14th, 2004, 05:57 PM U/C in HK 2013 :D
really? can we see it in 2013 in HK?
scorpion July 14th, 2004, 09:53 PM ^^SSC HK forumer meet at millennium tower, 2013 :)
EricIsHim July 14th, 2004, 10:02 PM someone came up with this idea many years ago; and i believe hong kong had actucally thought about this monster building. but it's definitely not going to happen in reality. hong kong now has a height limit on new buildings that are built in both sides of Victoria Harbor.
Rapid July 16th, 2004, 01:26 AM There is a great possiblity in our lifetiemes. I saw it on the Discovery Channel on a documentary of the tower. The tower is extremely wind and earthquake resistant, and the demand for the tower will rise like crazy in the future, because you cand build 400m skyscrapers on mountains safely.
So get ready, the Millenium Tower is a possibility. Might even see me working on that project. ;)
dcb11 August 2nd, 2004, 06:17 AM Discovery Channel said the tower would be built in Hong Kong, but everything else I've read has said the proposed site is Tokyo, and this plan has been around for over 10 years. Realistically, it could go in either city because it will be built on water, which means Tokyo Bay and Victoria Harbor are both suitable. However, remember the original Kowloon Station (now Union Square Phase 7) was shot down by the planning commission because it would be taller than the mountains. For this reason, I don't see the project being approved for HK.
It may not even be in Toyko. Other waterfront cities, such as Mumbai, could also benefit from the Millenium Tower. Since HK is already building at pretty much full density, even in the New Territories, I think they have a growth plan that is sustainable for quite a long time, without a superstructure being neccesary.
bs_lover_boy August 16th, 2004, 08:47 PM Well, this tower could be built in the Tseung Kwan O area of Victoria Harbour beacause it is at a seperated area of Kowloon, So I think that Tseung Kwan O could be a possible location of the Millenium Tower. Also, I would say that other possible locations would be Southwest Tsing Yi, Tuen Mun South and the Tolo Harbour.
P.S. Y don't we incorporate the Bionic Tower into this discussion Thread???
OBman August 19th, 2004, 05:39 PM WOW if built on the TKO side of victoria harbor,... i can see it from my house.
xePh3roK August 20th, 2004, 12:57 PM wasn't the Tower plan for Tokyo?
Route September 5th, 2004, 11:16 AM Just a pipe dream, they've talked about it for Tokyo and Shanghai too.
Syd-Hk September 5th, 2004, 02:32 PM the tower looks ugly they should consider another design.
OmegaScrapers June 30th, 2009, 10:48 AM hmm, it would be cool if it was built.
then..
Shanghai - bionic tower
HK - Milleniuem
