Not Really, yes there may be a Soysambu in Moi's Bridge, but this
Soysambu is the HQ of Delamere Estates next to Lake Elementaita.
Examine the pictures closely. You can also Google Delamere Estates.

NB Next to Zimmerman is "Roysambu"

Kenya is one of my favourite countries for agric in SS Africa. Are the large commercial farms at the top of the page owned by British people or white settlers or native Kenyans?
I guess most of the flower industry is foreign owned?

Given that the pics were taken around Eldoret, I can assume they are mostly owned by blacks (If thats what you meant by native). White farms and ranches are mostly found around areas like Nakuru, Timau, Laikipia e.t.c.

Popa, Why do you always view things in terms of race?

Thanks. Most of our flower industry is not foreign owned. If you look closely will notice those are small scale farms with typical African homesteads. ;)

Cattle ranch in Soysambu.

These indigenous creatures of Kenya come in various hues of white, brown and black, and number just under six thousand across the entire range of Soysambu and Delamere estates.

Famous Historical and Cultural Monuments and Landscapes of Kenya

By Wanjiku on 07/07/09

The Rift Valley province(Former), the 7th province is the home of the Kalenjins, the Masaais, Kisii's and some Kikuyus that immigrated from Central province. Kenyans long distances runners come form the Rift valley mainly from the Kalenjin tribe. The Maasais are known for retaining their traditional culture including their dress and are mainly pastoralists. The Kisii's like the Kikuyus emanate from the Bantu grouping and are mainly farmers. The main towns in the Rift valley are Eldoret, Nakuru, Naivasha, Kericho, Molo and Njoro.

Landmarks:

The Rift Valley:The Rift Valley, caused by a rift between parallel faults from the Jordan to Mozambique slices through Kenya from north to south. Kenya’s Rift valley has several lakes which are mostly alkaline save for two fresh water ones. The lakes include Lake Baringo, Lake Bogoria, Lake Nakuru, Lake Elementaita, Lake Naivasha, and Lake Magadi in the south. The high evaporation of the surface lake water results in sodium carbonate which, in turn, creates an ideal breeding ground for algae. There are several species of fish thriving in this environment, most common of which is the Tilapia, a fresh water fish. The soda composition lakes attract different species of bird due to the abundance of food supply in the form of algae and fish. The rift valley province is the largest, most populated, and most economically vibrant in Kenya. The high rainfall in the highlands maintains healthy soil for tea and coffee growing. Wheat is also grown in certain parts.

Masaai Mara

Masai Mara game reserve is uniquely named after the Maasai people who are the traditional inhabitants of the area, and the Mara River, which dissects the reserve. The Maasai Mara is one of the best known and most popular reserves in Africa. It is famous for its exceptional population of game in particular the big five, lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and the Rhino, and the annual great migration of zebra, Thomson’s gazelle and the wildebeest from the Serengetievery year from July to October. Maasai Mara was named the seventh wonder of the world in 2008 in an ABC program, Good Morning America. The criterion for its selection was mainly based on the great migration which is of such magnitude proportion and a sight to behold. The Maasai Mara is considered fourth preferred tourist destination world wide. There have been discovery of arrowheads and pottery supposedly discarded 2000 years ago at the Mara Reserve, (info. wiki travel). Maasai Mara is a game reserve as opposed to being a national park. This means the local county in conjunction with the Kenya wildlife society operates the reserve.

How much of Kenya's land is apart of the great rift valley?

It's approximately 182539 sq Km. It makes up almost 30% of Kenya's land area.

Though this thread focuses on places that used to make up the Rift Valley Province.

Thats on the nice things about Kenya, you can live in temperate Nairobi and drive to tropical Mombasa within a few hours.

I like that too.We also have an arid area in the north making it a perfect combination.

Kijabe,Rift Valley.

Unlike most here who have rural homes,we're unfortunate not to have a rural place to call home.If we did then i'd make kijabe my adopted rural home.

I've travelled past that escarpment for so many years on my way from Nairobi to Nakuru but I've never seen the suns rays light up the valley like that.

So lovely. I can only imagine how the person taking that shot must have felt.

Looks more like paradise valley. But there's also other very scenic points on Nbi-Nakuru highway right where Mt Longonot comes into view and another place,i think in Rironi, where there's a nice green forested area.

If you are going by road, about 500km. If the road was smooth all the way and without traffic, about five hours drive.

And about 45 minutes by plane from Nairobi,if you are going to Mombasa.
