Netherlands, A20 near Moordrecht. I have taken this picture when an accident happened about more than 10 kilometres away (on the A12). I hate those traffic jams (like this one) when people get out of their cars. Mostly not a good sign :)

Those jams aren't very nice, no. When going to Munich in 2006 we stood 1,5 km away from an accident near Limburg a/d Lahn. We stood still for 3 hours and it was 35 degrees Celsius. Horrible. It took us 13 hours to get there.

Those situations happens quite often in the Netherlands due to the fact most motorways have 2x2 lanes at blackspots (=areas where accidents frequently occur). With more lanes, you can usually bypass the accident at one or two lanes, also causing huge queues, but you don't have to be stationary for hours sometimes.

This was on the A3, which is 2×3 there. The accident even happened on the other side of the road. But Germans tend to close the road in case of an accident, which is much easier to work for the ambulance, police and the fire fighters.

Those situations happens quite often in the Netherlands due to the fact most motorways have 2x2 lanes at blackspots (=areas where accidents frequently occur). This accident was between Gouda and Reeuwijk, where the road has 3 or 4 lanes (depending on the exact location). Still the whole motorway needed to be closed.

Yeah, such large accidents happen too. But if a truck gets a breakdown, the right lane needs to be closed which effectively means the capacity is cut in half, while with 2x3 or 2x4 lanes there's more capacity left over. :)

That's not weaving, its just a transfer between collector and express lanes. There's a ton of em along the route.

Its 5+4x5+4 because in that image, the highway is nearing an interchange where many of the lanes diverge.

What are the Flickr advantages over Picasa? What's the premium account cost?

Picasa has problems with hotlinking. You can easily hotlink Flickr images. Besides that, it gives me a more reliable upload, since Picasa is often very slow. People don't watch your images if they have to wait so long for an album to load. Besides that, Flickr offers an unlimited upload. Costs: 24 dollars per year.

Very nice, Timon. It was relaxing. I see the Anchorage-Fairbanks-Valdez triangle is equilateral (500 km each side).

I added my Dutch highway pictures, all from provincial roads, and some primary roads which are not motorways.

I added 72 sets, each set represents one entire road number from A-Z, which brings the total amount of pictures to about 9,500

I think that means that max allowed speed is 100 kph. That's just in the Nederlands.

What I do on such pages, is just open it, and then browse through another website/forum/etc and just let it load in the background.
