Unfortuantely, I'm the bearer of bad news on this one.

I've been noticing on my walks as of late that despite all the work going on around town with holes being filled at long last and new towers rising out of them, some sites are lying idle with very little or no work being done.

Are there any explainations for this????

I cannot say but we can only make guesses.

Apparently the sites in question are all for residential towers. Could these be on the backburner for now due to a slow down in the Sydney property market????

The sites in question are Aspect, 185 Macquarie & Stamford Marque

At Aspect, the site has been idle for six weeks now. I have not seen at any point anything or evidence that work on the site is progressing. Not even a soul has been seen inside. I haven't even bothered grabbing any pics as a result

185 Macquarie was making good progress until a few weeks ago, even begining excvations. Everytime I go there now, I also see nothing, not even a piece or machinery or a soul. Very little has been done

The signage that was there on June 17 is now gone which suggests people have been in and out

And at Stamford Marque in Kent St, the site is still is a hole with some excvation work still required. I did not have a clear view of the site as this was through a tiny gap in the hoarding. I saw no machinery either. This is in stark comparison to the work going on in Feburary as seen by climbing_crane in his pic below

I hope these sites don't go the way of what happened in 1990 where the property crash left sites empty and undeveloped for a decade, and are still being filled to this very day.

Fabs, I think its illegal now for developers to demolish a building and then therefore halt construction. This was changed from memory because of holes like World Sq. Hopefully construction should begin soon.

mertion tower...

It might be taking forever to excvate the site but at least there is always activity on site. They even have had to restore buildings from the 19th century as part of the development.

Deputy Mayor McInerney is proposing that construction certificates should be handed out to developers prior to demolition and excvation of the site concerned in order to avoid this and implementing measures similar to those adopted at the Regent Place site such as the temporary shops.

It's good to note as well that work has resumed on all sites concerned over the past month or so.

Has anyone noticed that there has been nothing done on the site of Dakota (elizabeth st) for at least the past 12 months.

I wonder when construction is set to begin???

Sure, that one annoys me every day! Hyde Park North trees being removed and Dakota hole in the ground...looks like a war zone! :bash:
