What is your occupation? (You don't have to answer it, up to u !!)

I know some legal companies offer their employees from Malaysia US$2000+ per month here in Phnom Penh. Does this sound good to you?

You cannot compare this with US, but the cost of living is a lot cheaper in Cambodia than in US.

Lawyers / Legal advisors

Once you completed uni after a few years, I believe the economy should be fully recover by then. At the same time major companies from all over the world will open their offices here in Phnom Penh. They want to hire people like you who can speak / write Khmer fluently. It should be no problem for you to get above US$1k (minimum) per month. :)

$2000/month is more than enough for me to live a happy life in Phnom Penh. But I know nothing about law. :ohno: I'm just a junior level IT guy.

Well, you can apply to work at Dell or Microsoft. Im sure they'll pay you well !! :)

This is the right time to come if you plan to stay in Cambodia in the future - less competitive and the economy is recovering.

Depends on your lifestyle choice and where and what you eat. The cost of living varies depending on how you spent:

$150 - Bills (Electricity and Water)
$300 - One bedroom unit (or you want to buy your own house)
$100-$150 - Food
$50 - Maid
$50 - Transportation to work (or you can buy your own car)
$100 - Entertainments

$800 is definately sufficient if you live alone :)

It depends on what kind of companies and positions you applied.

Completed your Bachelor degree first and then come back - immence opportunities here in Cambodia !!

You can even start up your own business because you know how to speak Khmer and English fluently :)

I'm not Cambodian and I only come to Cambodia a few months at a time, but just wanted to say that would be pretty boring. For me I spend around $750/month on entertainment and $750-900/month on everything else. Might as well stay somewhere else if yer not going to go big on entertainment IMO.

To answer the question, I will prolly be going back to Phnom Penh in a couple months.

If you have that much money to spend, you'll have no problem going anywhere. Someone with less money, that would be more than enough. You don't need lots of money to live and have fun in Cambodia.

You probably don't need to spend $750/month for entertainment here in Cambodia, because Phnom Penh doesnt offer much for entertainments.

You going to spend that's much money in one month in PP, can I ask you? Do u gamble? If not, you are not to going spend that's much money, cos PP is cheap compares to other countries.....

six nights per weeks for me on average. i'm also usually at expat hangouts. so spending $750/month on entertainment isn't very difficult for me.

trust me, stay on the riverfront and hang out with fellow expats and tourists all day and $1500/month is no problem.

well im not a huge spender or anything. in fact the main reason i started spending more time in cambodia is because i was spending too much in thailand - was averaging 90,000b/month which at current exchange rate is like $2800/month ... way too much, i cannot afford. entertainment budget is important to me. i work 6+ months/year in a country i dont even like (usa) so i can travel around the world and have fun during the off season. not going to blow it on mediocrity. truth be told if i had more money i would spend more.

as for going to cambodia during the rainy season, i'm not going right now. still a few jobs i can work the next few months, will prolly head back late-oct at the earliest, so tail end of rainy season.
