MysticMcGoo August 6th, 2010, 08:08 AM Is that *real* brick? I already like this thing.
Kensingtonian August 6th, 2010, 06:32 PM I like it. The scale is perfect for that location. And I like those modern-looking Juliet balconies.
And I love that it's replacing that crappy looking plaza!
Dev.z August 6th, 2010, 09:56 PM I sincerely doubt that it's real brick. You don't see a whole lot of developments these days that don't do pre-fab, not in up and coming areas anyway. I'll agree 100% that real brick looks nicer but from the standpoint of the general public, I don't think there is much difference other than cost.
This would be a great addition to that space, especially since it gets rid of that horrid plaza and will give some identity to the new intersection. It's interesting because once the jog is finished, that southwest corner will still be the only non bridge covered area.
I certainly have my doubts as to how much further west the gentrification can go as Lansdowne to just before Roncys is a complete f-in mess and I'm quite sure that all the high density, low income apartments on Jameson will have something to say about that.
urbandreamer August 6th, 2010, 10:42 PM Nonsense. Lansdowne to Roncevalles is the new "it" zone on Queen West. Local Kitchen, Parts and Labour, Snowball Gallery and more have established the area as hipster central. More to come in 2010-11.:)
If priced affordably, I could actually see myself buying a condo here.
Dev.z August 9th, 2010, 12:41 AM Maybe I was a bit harsh on my description of that area, however I do think that Jameson will be a challenge for that spot to overcome on its way to a desirable destination.
AndrewJM3D August 9th, 2010, 04:09 AM This never would have happened without the removal of the jog.

If Cabbagetown can exist beside St. James Town and Regent Park, That stretch of Queen can gentrify with Jameson nearby. The streetscape is among the best looking in the city.
And as urbandreamer mentioned, it's already a first choice destination for many people. Hopefully it doesn't gentrify too quickly. Right now it's one of Toronto's most interesting neighbourhoods.
Dev.z August 9th, 2010, 05:25 PM Interesting is a good word.
Look, I live nearby and I walk that stretch of Queen often and there is enough drunk, cracked out, filthy, sketchy folk to make anyone feel uncomfortable at times. I'm not saying that the area isn't going to continue to progress but just cause you've got a few hipster shops and restos opening up doesn't mean it's a foregone conclusion.
I doubt anyone wants this stretch to be successful more than I do but take a walk around and make sure you're ok with the "interesting" side of it before buying.

Sometimes i prefer to see all the lowlives as a means of balancing out all the hipsters i see nowadays. I hope gentrification doesnt reach parkdale too quickly. It's urban grittiness is what attracts me to it at least.

PFloyd April 19th, 2011, 05:47 PM West Queen West
I actually took a stroll one evening a couple of weeks ago mainly from Macdonell to Roncy and was quite surprised with all the bars, restaurants, galleries, stores and other businesses that are giving this stretch of Queen Street West that cool hip vibe that we all like. Here is a list of some of the places I remember from my walk:
Parts and Labour - http://www.partsandlabour.ca/
Studio Brillantine - http://www.blogto.com/design/studiobrillantine
Cowbell - http://www.cowbellrestaurant.ca/
Mitzi's Sister - http://www.mitzis.ca/sister.html
Poor John's Cafe - http://www.blogto.com/restaurants/poorjohnscafe
Big Guy's Coffee Shop - http://www.blogto.com/cafes/big-guys...e-shop-toronto
Six String Garage - http://sixstringgarage.com/
Yummy Stuff - http://yummystuff.ca/
Local Kitchen and Wine Bar - http://www.localkitchen.ca/photo-gallery.php
Conspiracy Culture - http://conspiracyculture.com/
Not My Dog - http://www.blogto.com/bars/notmydog
And that is just from going West towards Roncesvalles; going East in the direction of Dufferin, you'll find many interesting places such as:
The mascot - http://www.blogto.com/cafes/mascot-toronto
Gallery 1313 - http://www.blogto.com/gallery/1313
NSC - http://www.blogto.com/gallery/neubacher-shor-contemporary
Cadillac Lounge - http://www.cadillaclounge.com/
Gallerywest - http://www.blogto.com/gallery/gallerywest-toronto
Etc, etc.
This area is definitely coming along in the right direction.

Street Car, Brad Lamb, and most others use real brick. Concord seems to be the developer that loves the cheap looking prefab brick.

I'll be happy when the day comes, that the city of Toronto, is strip mall free. I don't expect it in my life time but I'm sure one day it will happen. I guess I'll have to settle for one at a time.
Travis007 March 24th, 2012, 03:06 PM ^ Amen to that, demolition of a strip mall is a beautiful sight for any urbanite. Next step is the strip mall on the east side of the railway underpass to be developed.
