Parsian Azadi Grand Hotel (Retrofit/Renovations)

HISTORY

Completed in 1977, the Tehran Hyatt Crown Hotel (a Hyatt Regency Hotel) was the third Hyatt branded hotel in Iran after the Hyatt Mashhad and Hyatt Caspian. All three hotels were managed by Hyatt International but owned by the Pahlavi Foundation. Following the 1979 Revolution, the Pahlavi Foundation was dissolved and all its assets including the Hyatt Hotels were transferred to the Foundation of the Oppressed and Disabled (Bonyad-e Mostazafen va Janbazan). All management contracts with Hyatt International were terminated at the end of 1979.

The hotel arm of the Foundation was separated in 1995 as a wholly owned entity and renamed Bonyads Hotels Company. The company was then renamed Azadi International Hotels Co. in 1999 and Parsian International Hotels in the year 2000. In 1980, the Tehran Crown Hotel was rebranded as the Azadi Hotel (Freedom Hotel) and later the Parsian Grand Azadi Hotel. Since the Foundation of the Oppressed and Disabled lacked expertise in operating hotels, the service and the standards of all three hotels fell into decline with each passing decade.

RETROFIT/RENOVATIONS

In 2007, the hotel was shut down and embarked on an ambitious $50 million renovation and remodel, as envisioned in the goals and development programs of the country's 20-year vision to increase tourism. Italian and Swiss interior designers, along with Chinese engineers were hired for the retrofit in order to rebuild the hotel as a true five star hotel in line with the latest international standards. The hotel renovations are scheduled to be completed in 2011. Below are renders for the new hotel interiors:

This is a good start, but we all know that Iranian hotels aren't really five star in their services. I hope that they finally bring in a foreign hotel management company to manage this hotel properly. It doesn't need to be Hyatt, but perhaps an Asian chain like Shangri-La Hotels, Nikko Hotels or even Regent Hotels.

no chance of real tourism aslong as the country has an islamic regime
but this is nice
they should come up with original names for once instead of titling everything as "azadi" "pars" and "parsian"

You're confusing social freedoms with luxury. Islam didn't stop the saudis from having luxury

Exactly! There are countless International luxury hotel chains operating in Saudi Arabia. Luxury and Islam are compatible, if only the IRI realized this. :)

we kicked your arguments ass, Iranian. At least say something more than 'right..'

;)

But, in all fairness, Saudi is a hereditary monarchy where the law is shariah whereas Iran is governed by political Islam, hence the changing of titles from Aryamehr and what not to the ironic 'Azadi', and when El Presidente Ahmadi sleeps on the floor for photo shoots, then the Iranian gov might not care for luxury hotels for any time soon

but enough about politics... obviously, it's depressing

While Iran doesn't have much prospect for the tourism that youthes engage in, we could try to take a bite in the 'enlightened' market where white people are willing to wear the hejab 'out of respect for the culture', or people from other nations that have their own stringent social customs, and tour historical sites ... it all depends on your marketing angle

a vegas style hotel that pays tribute to the I.R in the same way the luxor does to egypt would be very amusing

Exterior is looking much better now, I'll try to take a picture of the tower sometime.

Is the hotel operational now? Whenever I pass by the hotel at night most of the lights are off.

Thank you for the photo. I read recently that the hotel is still not open and the renovations are behind schedule (what a surprise, right?).

For a second I thought they have actually built a 5* hotel in Tehran after 33 years, but anyway good job for renovating. well done.

I love the 70's feeling of the facade.

Just hope the service is as good as the hotel seems to be (lol), i went on the site of the hotel and it said it had staff with post-academic education and features such as high-speed internet which is good, just hope it's true.

As I wrote on page one of this thread, it's the old Crown Hyatt in Tehran.

The Intercontinental is now the Laleh.

I was hoping that they would get their act together and have a proper hotel company manage the hotel - It doesn't have to be American as there are countless other European and Asian chains that could have done it. A Shangri-La Tehran hotel would have been nice!

Also, their website (http://azaditehran.pih.ir) looks hideous and unprofessional.
