TheBaseTower July 26th, 2004, 08:24 PM WoW amazing! tnx telavivi!
[MakkabI] July 27th, 2004, 03:04 PM AWESOME
Much more sexy and better than Sydney International Airport
Airport Addict July 27th, 2004, 03:55 PM Nice local touch there with the wall behind the check-in counters made of Jerusalem stone! And a nice spacious market circle between the check in and the holdrooms.
May I however air my surprise here that there seem to be both the typical Tel Aviv inspection interview tables (for the "please place your luggage on this table and I will ask you some questions" routine) already stacked in the check-in area (last picture in reply # 6 behind the leftmost column), as well as what seem to be state-of-the-art explosives detection devices (the huge white things, second picture from the top in the original post, under the flight info boards).
I believe to have read elsewhere that trials are underway at the old terminal aready to do away with the questioning and scan luggage "behind the scenes", at least for El Al flights. That would speed up the check in process and unclutter the departures areas.
Has that been scrapped for the new building then?
RoM July 28th, 2004, 05:21 PM The scanning and checking are impossible to remove given that little fact: we live in the state of Israel and as citizen of such a nation we UNDERSTAND the existance of such measures and understand its there to protect us....so no i do not belive those things will change, they will however, be less obvious and will bother us less in the new airport since there is a new technology used there (secret cameras, finger printing system, face characters and more)
Airport Addict July 28th, 2004, 06:28 PM ^^Been through them myself, and understand their necessity.
I read this on the Skytrax website - www.airlinequality.com/airport/airport.htm "Tel Aviv phasing out interrogation": tThe link is still there but yields no more story. It was to the end that with modern technology being deployed the checks would become "invisible" without compromising their thoroughness.
Hence my surprise at seeing "old technology" (tables) in the pictures. I guess I was jumping to conclusions and stand corretced: glad to read that you are confirming that the checks will be with modern technology and less bothersome.
MTL-514 July 28th, 2004, 07:59 PM wow what a beautiful airport... I had no idea a new airport was even being built...
is it an extension to Ben Gurion? is it in Lod? or is it located somewhere closer to central Tel Aviv?
TheBaseTower July 28th, 2004, 09:08 PM wow what a beautiful airport... I had no idea a new airport was even being built...

Arpels October 31st, 2004, 01:05 AM WOW :uh:
AK_Swift October 31st, 2004, 01:52 AM i think that has to be the single most beautiful airport in the world. By avoiding the architectural trends that other cities are quick to follow, it stands out, making it unique and even more beautiful in my eyes. An awesome airport. I especially like those antiques on the wall. This airport is sure to win a whole host of awards. Breathtaking and marvelous. Indeed.

Has that been scrapped for the new building then?
Yes, that's correct and I do believe for all flights. What happenend is that they got into major technical difficulties with the new hitech scanning equipment and implementation has been delayed for a couple of years last I heared. Also, supposoudly someone forgot to leave enough space for this new equipment in the rear area, however, they had made a change order to the plan (at rather steep cost) to accomodate these machines in the rear area while the terminal was under construction. However, because of the technical difficulties it will take much longer to implement than originally thought.

Am I going to have to wait for someone at airliners.net to take a picture from a plane that's taking off of the new Terminal with some actual planes at the gates?
TeLaVivi November 11th, 2004, 09:43 AM I'm currently working on the internet campaign for the new terminal (I'll show you the banner when it is finished ;) ), so they sent lots of material to work with .

You are entitled to your opinion but it has absolutely no place on this forum.
RoM November 26th, 2004, 10:09 AM No fendango, you are not entitled to express your opinion in places where it doesnt belong. Ive told you that many times, any forum law breaking would lead to a consequence and post deleting is just one of them, dont provoke, offend and break forum rules and your post wont be deleted. Good day
fandango November 26th, 2004, 05:20 PM If it's about Israel and airports, then it belongs in this thread. As for offensive, you're lucky not many non Israelis enter this forum because alot of the threads would offend them.

Azazel December 22nd, 2004, 01:00 PM Answering him isnt the smartest thing to do either azazel...
sorry, mom. I just asked a question.
RoM December 22nd, 2004, 01:05 PM Good boy *pats you*
elfreako January 15th, 2005, 06:43 PM This is, without a doubt, the most beautiful airport terminal building in the world. No other city comes even close. It actually reminds me of a great archaeological museum! I find most airports to be be too metallic and sterile (sorry Norman Foster...), this building looks so welcoming. And that waterfall....I can't even begin to describe that! Reminds me of the Sydney Olympic waterfall in the opening ceremony! LOL
BTW, who was the architect? Israeli?
Hebrewtext January 16th, 2005, 03:42 PM SOM made the concept design of the airport extension project (terminal 3),
local Israeli architects made the practice detailed design of the terminal.
Karmi architects designed the air side terminal.
Lissar Eldar architects designed tha land side terminal.
SOM site (http://www.som.com/opener.cfm)
Kuvvaci January 16th, 2005, 11:21 PM Really so impressive design. I like this airport. Actually I don't know how big it is, but no matter what size it has, it is really so cool.
RoM January 22nd, 2005, 03:31 AM Ok I just been there yesterday (came back from europe) and this thing is HUGE... I travel alot and I never walked so much from the plane to the passport check in my life lol...but its really pretty tho
normandb January 22nd, 2005, 04:49 AM Very Beautiful and Very Big Airport. Does it have a train inside going on to every gates just ?
RoM January 22nd, 2005, 01:07 PM There is an underground train station in the airport yes
