Ramy H August 17th, 2010, 05:52 PM Do... historic railroads count? lol. If so, here is Lebanon's! hahaha. There are plans to renovate it and connect it with other railway lines in the Middle East...latest we have heard is new track is being laid, but that is it so far! So for now, its a little glimpse into what was a great railway network:(

Mesch August 18th, 2010, 09:42 AM Btw, do any of the gulf countries still have their old railways (still running)? Or any new railways (excluding UAE)?
Actually, there is a proposed GCC train that will connect the six countries and plans are currently underway.
As to Saudi Arabia, the only train that's working now is the Riyadh-Dammam train which connects the capital with the Eastern Province.
Others are under construction and include the Mecca-Medina Highspeed Train (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=710292) and the ambitious North-South Railway (http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=735868), which will be connected to the GCC train once finished.

do you have any pics/renders of the new line between Tangiers and Casablanca. cuz apparently our king just "donated" some 200 million dollars to finance it (http://www.uic.org/com/uic-e-news/187/article/morocco-saudi-arabian-king-donates) !
and as for Turknology and the Hijaz Railway , it wasn't the saudis who destroyed it but rather the Hashemites ( who eventually got kicked out by the Saudis to modern-day Jordan ) , and there was no need to rebuilt at the time since there were no resources for such project and for the fact that the khilafah was ended and ottomans were gone . .although I red that there there are some plans to revive it agin (http://archive.arabnews.com/?page=4§ion=0&article=109100&d=19&m=4&y=2008&pix=world.jpg&category=World) .

Night Hawk August 22nd, 2010, 12:46 PM Why are the engines so ugly??
THese trains must not go very fast as we can see from the box like shape.
elab August 22nd, 2010, 02:38 PM Ugly? ^^ ...matter of taste.
There are Siemens & Alstom electric locomotives (as seen on pics they use variable pantographs of each other - Siemens runs with pantographs down recieving power from Alstom and vise versa...). Both are powerful, reliable and electric efficient modern locs - you can see them all over the Europe. Both are able to move passenger trains up to 160 km/h (and even more) or/and hundreds of tons of cargo.
Hope, one day all Middle East will be connected to Europe through turkish railway network and Bosphorus rail bridge. :)
BTW, look at this locomotive:
http://i181.photobucket.com/albums/x314/elyab/Railways/DSC_0182mm.jpg
this picture taken in New-York/Penn station. It is ELP-46 electric locomotive of NJTransit. Looks pretty same as Siemens above!

AKP will give Europe a huge kick at the end.And you will see it.They don´t care about EU and forming a new "Middle East" Union.
So with supporting AKP i also make you a favor. But if i support them or not Europe will always look down on you.So forget the EU thing
manrush December 17th, 2010, 12:33 AM So basically one of you two set that roof on fire, but neither of you will admit it. Thus you're arguing about asia and farms and stuff.
Arama December 17th, 2010, 12:34 AM the majoriy of which vote for the AKP, stop pwning yourself.
