View Full Version : Will Trump have the World's Tallest Hotel in Toronto? Or will Stinson foil his plans?

When all is said and done... who will win the race?

OT: Doesn't it make you proud that Donald Trump has decided to build the World's Tallest Hotel here in Toronto?

**EDIT**

It should've read, World's Second Tallest Hotel.

At the moment, the tallest hotel is in Dubai, but the highest is in the Jin Mao Building in Shanghai.

^ Good point. I thought TTC was a condo but I guess it will also have hotel uses.

That's right Chicago Trump will have a hotel.

Afterall, it's entire name is:

Trump International Hotel & Tower

The bluish looking building between the Hancock and the Aon Center.

so you know he won't top out his chicago tower

Mr Man
July 21st, 2004, 07:04 PM
I now do. However it's only a 59ft difference between TTC and TTT... Trump Tower Toronto is also in competition with Sapphire Tower to build the tallest skyscraper in the country. So further height increases may still happen. This is now the 3rd or 4th height increase for TTT. Ditto for Saphhire.

Actually, Trump Chicago is now supposed to top out at 1300 feet. After Chicago built the tallest skyscraper that a human can go up in anywhere in the universe as we know it. Some cheap asians decided to concrete the top 20 floors of their towers and then continue to add a ditsy spire to take the title from Chicago's full functioning office tower that has it's own zip code. Those bastards are the reason why Trump's spire will push it over 1300 feet, thus becoming the 2nd tallest building in Chicago.

Oh okay... My source was Skyscrapers.Com, I thought it would be accurate.

Oh okay... My source was Skyscrapers.Com, I thought it would be accurate.

Think of it as your source has the correct height with communications equipment on the spire. The supposed new height will be your sources height of the Trump Building without the communications equipment on the spire, thus adding to the total height of the building.

Makes sense.
I'd change this thread title to world's second tallest hotel, if I could.

i hate this spire crap, it should not be counted. but then again i hate when towers are not included.

Yeah, spire cheaters are irritating. If you go over to SSP.com and look at a diagram of the tallest buildings, it is pretty clear why spire cheaters suck.

"Those bastards"? Perhaps you should save your animosity for the council (in the US) who decided that spires count.

If they count for the Chrysler Building why should they not count for any other?

Why the hell does anyone even care about this spire crap - a building is a building. It should be the design and architecture and how it appears in the cities skyline that counts - not how many feet and inches it compares to another tower on the other side of the planet.

It only irritates me when towers like the Petronas are said to be the tallest when in my opinion they are NOT. People rub that in your face and brag about it when they basicly cheated. They are taller on a technicality not in actual height. It just seems like unsportsman-like behaviour :D

Mike in TO

No one cheats... how do you cheat in the construction and engineering of a tower? - the building is what it is. Spire or no spire - the architects, designers and owners of any building have not cheated the world or the public out of something by choosing to place a spire on the top of their tower.

I would say in most cases spires are place on a tower as part of the architecture for design and aesthetic purposes - I'm willing to bet that only in rare cases do any of the designers actually look at the feet and inches and put a spire on based on camparisons wth other towers - The only people who seem to care or some on these forums - other than that no one is being cheated of anything - in most case the people that actually design many of these towers probably care how the final product looks - not if it's spire is 2 feet taller than some other tower 5000 miles away.

Do Trump and Stinson honestly believe that their suites will sell better if they can say "we're the tallest"? I don't think so. This is about quality, not height. They should focus on the external and internal architectural quality instead.

Rapideye, why did you have to bring back a thread from July of last year to state the obvious? If a thread has been dead for a very long time, there's no need to bump it for no apparent reason.

Trump will be built. Stinson may be built. For now, I think there's a 50/50 chance of Trump winning. That said, I don't think either will be the worlds tallest hotel. At very least, Trump Chicago should be done first, and I'm fairly sure there are a few in Dubai (Burj Dubai and Emirates Hotel) which will be taller and quite possibly completed before Trump Toronto.

I agree, they won't set any records. Who really cares. I'll just be happy if they get built in this city. Would love to see the skyline.

Last summer a friend of mine from the sticks visited our fair city and she commented that it seems that "we always have the same towers". Now in itself, that is just a stupid comment. But what I think she meant is that nothing has been built in this city that has stood out.
Sure in these forums we can mention a whole lot of projects, but I guess your average joe who does'nt notice buildings that much would not. I mentioned cityplace condos and got a blank stare (this was last summer in all fairness).
Either way, the two new towers would have a revolutionary type change to our skylines so go on an frigging build the things!

But try not to do that again, there's nothing wrong with it, it just seems kind of annoying that these threads are a long time ago and that there's newer threads on this issue now.
Here's a tip for future reference: If you choose to check back to see the treads from a while back, these threads are not made recently, so just read them and do not reply unless the info you post is informative and relevent. :)

Well, first of all this is a skyscraper forum, not the Lord of The Rings forum, so around here it doesn't matter how many posts you have. Posts counts don't neccessarily account for if you're a n00b, nor does the date that you joined mean if you're a n00b or not. What really determines if your a n00b, regular, expert, is what you post, and how accurate or relevent your posts are. Remember, there's many skyscraper experts out there who don't even waste their time on a forum. ;)

And by the way, it just kind of a joke to call him a n00b, I didn't really mean it. Notice the " ;) " ?
