This Project involves construction of a futuristic, space age tower to be known as The Crystal Dome and also as Pearl / Emerald of the Emirates.

The Crystal Dome will serve as the main station for the Dubai Light Rail project. The tower will be a major tourist attraction of Dubai and is also expected to be an architectural landmark. The building will be the biggest exterritorial of the world. The height of the building will be 455m and built up area will be 2.3 million sqm.

Unique features of the project include: Tilted diagonal spiral elevators offering fast access to the building; emergency slides instead of stairs; safeguards against air terrorism and car-parks. The building will introduce a new concept in car-parking. The car-parks will be at the same floor-level as the office or the apartment. This means that the cars will be parked in the backyard of the office or the apartment.

The building will also have 3,000 luxury apartments, 500,000 sqm. of office space, clinics, sports facilities, conference space, a six star hotel, food and retail outlets, leisure parks for children and a wellness centre. The project will have special facilities to supply cool fresh air to all the floors.

The Crystal Dome will be optically "wrapped" by a golden colour glass spiral-ramp forming a "necklace" around the building, and will be used instead of stairs. The most modern magnetic transportations facility will run upwards on the inside. This feature will give visitors, office workers and residents of the Crystal Dome 360° views of Dubai. People will be able to go up the building in small magnet wagons that will also be able to carry their private cars. The wagon will be able to accommodate up-to 5 cars at a time.

Desgins are in final stages and date for Tender it about to be relasesed

I found some information on the visonary project "Emerald of the Emirate"
it is to be built in phases, the floors that get constructed will be occupiable right away instead of waiting for the whole building to be done

its at least 750 meters high (3 towers) taller the the burj Dubai and maybe the Pinnacle

is this really going to be built? or is it just a vision?

The data on this tower is just too conflicting. I went to the carglider website, and their info is mixed up too.

First of all, Burj Dubai will be taller than 500 meters, there's no doubt about that. Some of the charts above (and on the website) show the dome as being about the height of Petronas, while others show it as being far taller than anything else built (and maybe even taller than Burj Dubai). Some pics have one big dome, while some have 3 or more slender domes. The size of the people shown on the ramp inside the buildings makes the building look pretty small, actually.

Part of the problem is that the carglider website is kinda screwy. They seem to think that cars will actually drive on the ramps inside the building. It looks like a big building, but I hardly think cars will be neccesary to get around it.

This seems like it may somebody's personal idea for a new building, rather than a real proposal. The data is just too conflicting.

Of course, Dubai has done amazing things in the past, so I guess I wouldn't be too surprised to see it there. I hope it doesn't eclipse the Burj Dubai, however. I want BD to be a massive landmark greater than anything in Dubai.

p.s. There are already a few buildings in London that look very similar to the Dome (Foster's Cucumber thing, and the Metropolitan govt. building)

this is amazing

Olivator

The Olivator is an innovative elevating technology to transport residents and guests up and down in a high rise building

The Golden Dome will be "wrapped" by a golden color spiral ramp, enclosed like a tube, going up to the top floor and built for use instead of stairs. Modern magnetic levitation wagons designed to carry up to five automobiles with the occupants in them, will run on the spiral ramp, carrying residents and guests to their desired floor of the building.

Often “exterior glass-elevators” have been used for smaller luxury buildings, to provide guests with a nice panoramic view, instead of a concealed enclosed lift-elevator. But, for “domed” buildings and for larger luxury buildings - like the one discussed - it is technically not possible to construct “exterior elevators.” As a modern solution, the golden spiral-ramp takes their place, which gives the user a marvelous 360° observation-radius, as they travel up the spiral ramp in a small magnet wagon carrying them in their own private car. Each wagon can carry approximately five cars.

Only some auxiliary staff-elevators on the interior of the building are needed, for personnel, materials, or the occasional resident or guest, who might dislike the open view as they travel up or down the spiral ramp.

Investment Policy

While the royal family of Abu Dhabi has the financial capacity to fund the development and construction of the project, as a matter of policy they will not put up funds for projects in the Abu Dhabi unless the developers bring in significant project funds from third parties. Accordingly, Golden Dome Holdings is in discussions with potential investors including lenders, builders and engineering firms to invest € 10 to € 100 million. When that is accomplished Golden Dome Holdings will proceed with its endeavors to finalize the debt and equity financing for the € 5 Billion required to build the project.

I think its mighty ugly but I think its truly ground-breaking not only for Dubai but for the whole world, it will usher in a new era of public and private transportation and highrise living. The design definitely lacks a lot. One thing tho, dont you think a project this big would be designed by a big architect?? It looks like its designed by some 5 year old. Cooling of large buildings such as the Golden Dome in a hot climate requires tremendous amounts of electrical energy. The concept proposed for the Golden Dome is that cool air will be brought into the Golden Dome from an altitude of 3000 to 5000 km by virtue of a man-made tornado that creates a vortex that will suck air down from those higher elevations that has a temperature of only 0° - 10° C at those altitudes.

A German consortium is planning to build a massive $1 billion residential, leisure and commercial development on Dubai's Shaikh Zayed Road near the Emirates Towers.

The Crystal Dome is a modern concept which will symbolise the hi-tech and touristic activities of Dubai as well as being a world benchmark in architecture, said a spokesman.

The Crystal Dome will be the biggest 'exterritorial' of the world. It will touch a height of 455 m, with a gross area of about 2.3 million sq m.

The InterGlob Euro-Arab Consortium is developing the property, which will also serve as a main station for the Dubai Magno Metro, when implemented.

Construction work will start in January or February and the project will be implemented in stages in five years, said Prof Alexander Wagner, chairman of the group.

He said the project has secured provisional approval from Dubai authorities and financing has been arranged from a German real estate fund.

The dome will have unique features that offer fast access to the building; new elevator technology (tilted diagonal spiral elevators); emergency slides (spirals) instead of endless stairs; Safety against air pirate terrorism; Comfort car parking at personal floor-level - own cars are parked in the backyard of the apartments.

Instead of building two separate buildings - one as a parking house and one for business and living - with the disadvantage that the walking distance is long, the Crystal Domes combines both areas. This gives a maximum comfort to the inhabitants.

The Crystal Dome will provide space for about 3,000 residences or luxury apartments and 500,000 sq m of space for business offices.

It will have clinics, sport facilities, conference space, and a six-star hotel, food and other shops, as well as a leisure park for children of the working parents and a wellness centre.

The project is estimated to cost around $1 billion. Most of the costs will be covered by the sales of the luxury apartments.

The Crystal Dome will be optically 'wrapped' by a golden colour glass spiral-ramp (enclosed like a tube) forming a 'necklace', while going up to the top. (The most modern magnetic transportation facility will run upwards on the inside).

The Dome is wrapped by two spirals (one upward, the other downward) at a distance of 10 m. Considered a gradient of 1:15 it takes 3 km to climb up the 450 m. With a speed of 60 km (which is low) it takes 3 minutes to the top, which is very comfortable.

One turn of the spiral is about 600 m with a gain in heights of 90 m. This gives 5 windings of the spiral up to the top if a steepness of 15 per cent (8.5°) is considered. For the up and down spiral it gives 10 windings in total.

The spirals are used also for emergency escape instead of stairs. Both spirals (up and down spiral) can be used as emergency slide exits.

The dome will also address the issue of air-terrorism. The domes are Kamikaze-crash protected. Like an aircraft carrier warship, which catches arriving fighter-jets with landing ropes, the vertical ropes or 'tow-rods' of the Dome, which are holding together the spiral arms, will protect the Dome. The spiral ramp, which wraps around the Dome - and in which the magnet train moves - is linked vertically with strong and highly resistant glass-fibre ropes or tow rods, that will catch any aircraft which might try to aim at the Dome in a suicide-attack.

Cooling of high-rise domes in a hot climate, consumes a tremendous amount of electrical energy, which increases the cost of living considerably. The concept of the Crystal Dome provides a solution, by designing the light tube in such a way, that the tube is used simultaneous as a fresh cool air supplier to all of the hundred floors.

The tube creates an artificial tornado, that reaches up to 3 km - 5 km high, and sucks down the cool air, that has a temperature of only 0° - 10° (or less) at this altitude (Vortex effect).

The inhabitants can breathe fresh, natural, and clean air, without any pollution, which is sucked down from those cool altitudes.

The Dome will have a central tube 'atrium' for bringing down light and air. This 50 m diameter central tube is surrounded by offices. The office rooms will obtain their light from the mirror system of the central tube (atrium) and will take in also the cool air from there. The apartments have a distance end to end (radius segment) of 25 m and a personalized width, which can be individually chosen by the companies.

This is the same consorcium that has build the magnatrain in Shanghai China, and were thinking to do the same in Dubai, but it seams that Municipality considered the project very expensive so cancel it and weent with a rail one.

However we don't know if this will be build or not.

Let's wait and see. Maybe they are trying to figure out a (enginering) way to build it.

This might have been the same consorcium that tried the Magnet Train in Hong Kong too, I'll have to check on it first.

There is only one consorcium that tried to sell the Magnet Train to every corner of the globe, so it must be it.

Ok now this is serious stuff... .looks like this is not a fake vision after all !!!

The designated chairman of the board of directors of Golden Dome Holdings is a member of the Royal family of Abu Dhabi. He has assured GDH that the approximately 300 hectares of land necessary for the project will be available for acquisition by the project. Another director is Frank Wagner, a shareholder of the Swiss/German corporation that owns part, and controls part, of the magnetic levitation technology this is contemplated to be included in the building. He has committed to obtaining for the project a royalty free license for use of that technology in the project. The third director, Adam Good, is the managing director of a consulting group that conducted the negotiation between the director with access to the magnetic levitation technology and the member of the Royal Family of Abu Dhabi, and who has committed on a best efforts basis to obtain the required funding for the project.

Ok I'm confused... I thought this project was in Dubai... why are they talking about it being in Abu Dhabi?

i don't think AbuDhabi would finance a Government project such as this one which is meant to be the main station of the Metro.. it's not how the things work here :) btwone of the renders had the Emirates Airlines logo on it . So it will be financed and managed by Dubai's Gov.

i actually think it would be pretty cool looking, but certain changes in the design would have to be made, i mean, i hate that Emirates logo at the top, thats gotta go, and the Golden color, thats gotta go too, too ugly,
then again, seeing the monorail spiral climb this thing, would be pretty cool,
