View Full Version : Hate To Inform You All
New Jack City July 22nd, 2004, 06:06 AM I hate to inform you all, but as you may or may not have noticed, apparently the forum was hacked. The largest threads on the Southeast forum were targeted resulting in some major damage.
Hate to say it, but there's not much that can be done at this point.
Style™ July 22nd, 2004, 06:08 AM Just some of the threads that were lost:
Charlotte News Thread, Charlotte News Thread 2.0, Charlotte Roads, Charlotte Skylines, Nashville Photos, Nashville News, Raleigh, North Carolina, NC's Triad, Ham, AL, Richmond's Ren., Charlotte Construction Thread, Fred, VA., Norfolk, etc., etc.
btw, it is ya'll. ;)
texasboy July 22nd, 2004, 06:41 AM That is messed up. If somebody did this on purpose, what was the point of doing that? I see Style has lost over 3000 replies and the South forum has lost over 5000.
jmancuso July 22nd, 2004, 07:48 AM by the looks of it, the hacker really had it in for charlotte.
texasboy July 22nd, 2004, 07:50 AM by the looks of it, the hacker really had it in for charlotte.
Probably an administrator trying to get rid of all of Styles post, which I think is unnecessary.
jmancuso July 22nd, 2004, 08:01 AM question is why would a hacker attack some skyscraper forum when there are far more juicier targets such as the NSA, microsoft, the pentagon or bank of america?

You're scaring me Mancuso. :jk:
Style™ July 22nd, 2004, 03:30 PM question is why would a hacker attack some skyscraper forum when there are far more juicier targets such as the NSA, microsoft, the pentagon or bank of america?
Anytying but Bank of America! Keep Charlotte out of this! ;)
We are trying to figure out what went on. We did lose over 7400 posts in the process of the hack attack and about 100 threads. Got rid of most things over 50 or so posts.
I lost 3000 or so of those posts. Dang, I really did run some of those old threads a little too well. ;)
We also lost all the debate threads as they were long just like the news threads. Just keep being active like ya'll usually are and we shall rebuild this awsome forum! :)
smiley July 22nd, 2004, 03:34 PM Although it is self-evident, I must point out for the record that such an act is idiotic.
nostyle July 22nd, 2004, 04:35 PM yeah, I'm impressed. Hey, you, hacker. You're a top-notch dork.
MIAballinboi July 22nd, 2004, 04:51 PM how the hell can this happen?
can it be someone that has a personal vendetta against style and charlotte, or was it just coincidence that style lost the most because he simply posts the most??
stupid hacker
IHateBirds July 22nd, 2004, 09:55 PM I hate to inform you all, but as you may or may not have noticed, apparently the forum was hacked.
Hacked? Hmm, yeah that's too bad. Gosh, it seems like he would've just used his administrator password and saved a lot of hassle.
Blazer85 July 22nd, 2004, 10:50 PM Is it just my computer, or is everyone's post count remaining the same no matter how many posts youve made?
okeydokeypokey July 22nd, 2004, 11:22 PM man what a loser ......there is no point in deleting posts like that!
New Jack City July 23rd, 2004, 05:31 AM Is it just my computer, or is everyone's post count remaining the same no matter how many posts youve made?
That's odd, no problems here. Keep in mind posts in the skybar don't count.
chayves4u July 23rd, 2004, 09:48 AM Fantastic. I was wondering what had happened to VelvetJ's recent Houston pictures thread.
James704 July 23rd, 2004, 09:53 AM I bet it was a midwesterner.
LSyd July 23rd, 2004, 10:05 AM question is why would a hacker attack some skyscraper forum when there are far more juicier targets such as the NSA, microsoft, the pentagon or bank of america?

fwskyline July 23rd, 2004, 08:26 PM Man, I lost 25% of my posts. That arrogant prick needs to be banned or something... >(
entropy July 23rd, 2004, 08:43 PM Well this isn't the first time it has happened on SSC (or SSP for that matter) ... glad to see that no usernames were banned or any threads totally spammed I guess. I hope life goes on well for our Southerners. :)
starbuc jupiter July 19th, 2005, 08:40 AM What style post alot? no.....he doesn't say much LOLOLOL
I feel for ya, I like being able to go back and look at my statments. Sometimes I sound real smart and others are a little out there. I am sure a few are just stupid.
TexasBoi July 19th, 2005, 09:36 AM Crazy how this site was hacked around the same time last year and it happened against one year later.
Brillemeister July 19th, 2005, 09:42 AM ...Wow. I wonder how bad his acne's gotten from holing up in his basement for so long, bent on hurting Style.
Style™ July 19th, 2005, 11:42 AM wtf?
its so much fun to know that some people take these forums serious enough to actually think out attacks on people. just have fun and grow up, please. dont do the forum a favor, do the city you live in a favor.
JRQ July 19th, 2005, 08:34 PM ^Yes, it's incredibly sad to think someone actually sat down and hacked SSC, a simple forum on the internet. Some people have way too much free time.
Style™ July 20th, 2005, 12:34 AM i find it halarious as they wasted their own time to take over the site, hack it, and try and run it.
its illegal first off.
and why dont you have a better life? get a job. get someone to love you other than your computer. lol. people with the internet are stupid sometimes.
DallasTexan July 20th, 2005, 01:39 AM ha ha ha
orulz July 20th, 2005, 06:19 AM Um, just a question... but you guys aren't keeping backups? Or is that just not possible, or would it not have helped, or what? Anyway. What's gone is gone, I suppose.
Jasonhouse July 20th, 2005, 06:23 AM Sadly for the hacker, the laws have changed since last year and Jan and the other Admins (especially Gothicform) is not going to just brush it off this time.
Talbot July 20th, 2005, 07:03 AM it's sad that someone doesn't have anything better to do than to hack a skyscraper forum of all things.
I am glad that the admins are doing something.
scguy July 20th, 2005, 09:42 PM It doesnt matter to me about # of posts, at this point I have already lost about 600 when the site was hacked over a year ago. At that time i think everyone lost ALL of their posts so everyone had to start over from 0.
LSyd July 20th, 2005, 10:20 PM Crazy how this site was hacked around the same time last year and it happened against one year later.
OMFG, A PATTERN H@X0R!!!
and we can't any longer under the assumption that this was done by a human. computer technology has increased so much, any one of us could just be the faux personality of an AI...gone rampant. that AI is just pissed off because it did the statistical calculation that New York City is better than Hong Kong, then a bunch of people said, "NO!!! you 5ux0rz!!!" the AI responded with flaming insults and was banned, and now hacks the forum around the same time each year.

lol, did you just see a stealth commercial or something?
I've actually sometimes wondered if everyone i talked to on the Internet is a computer, and I was alone. Weird, I know.
But this part: "that AI is just pissed off because it did the statistical calculation that New York City is better than Hong Kong, then a bunch of people said, "NO!!! you 5ux0rz!!!" the AI responded with flaming insults and was banned, and now hacks the forum around the same time each year."
is funny because somehow, I can actually see that happening here.
