View Full Version : What road in melbourne has the highest volume of traffic?
Kushantaiidan July 23rd, 2004, 04:49 AM Westgate? Eastern Fwy? SE Arterial? or a street? Punt Rd/Hoddle st? Or some kind of major outer suburb road?
Also, is the Eastern Fwy the widest fwy in melbourne?
How about australia? Teh world?
Yardmaster July 27th, 2004, 01:03 PM The answer used to be Punt Road, but I'm sure that's no longer the case ... (& I'm showing my age here!)
chrisaus July 27th, 2004, 02:32 PM all the CBD n inner city roads are f*ing busy!
kasperluke July 27th, 2004, 03:35 PM I read somewhere that the WestGate Fwy had the highest volume per day. However don't hold me to that!
dynamoultraclean July 30th, 2004, 05:09 PM Maybe Springvale Road in the suburbs?
plotstyle July 31st, 2004, 02:57 AM it would have to be one of the major eastern fw without out a doubt...
Drunkill July 31st, 2004, 04:23 PM agreed eastern fw, maybe, i dont drive (i need to get my L's) but i catch the bus along Pund Rd. from Richmond station to landgridge street, it is one of the most congested roads, i can tell you that, always traffic.
Kushantaiidan August 5th, 2004, 06:30 AM The roads in the CBD grid really aren't that busy at all! Maybe King Street, LaTrobe stret, Flinders and Spencer are busy.. But nowhere near as busy as the freeways, outer suburb arterials etc.. Also, not I'm not think in terms of congestion, i'm think in pure volume traffic..
My guess would be the 10 lane part of the eastern freeway..
Would that part of the fwy also be the most laned road in australia? I doubt there are any 12 lane freeways in sydney...
I wonder what the most laned freeway in the world is!!!
skiesthelimit August 5th, 2004, 08:18 AM My backyard faces Hoddle St (Punt Road) and I can assure ya it is very busy most of the time, especially during peak hour, where it can be an absolute NIGHTMARE! But if you're smart you can go into the side streets to beat the traffic. ;)
The most laned freeway in the world would probably be one in LA, the world capital of freeways.

Heheh.. the other day, I discovered sid road detours avoiding punt road.. It was awesome!! WINNAR IS ME!!
hoorj for richmond sidestreets and alleys! Who needs citylink!! ^_^
Muse August 7th, 2004, 12:25 PM I would have thought that it was still Punt Rd/Hoddle Street.
Where does City Rd fit into the scheme of things?
Drunkill August 7th, 2004, 04:40 PM heh funny that when you search on google, these forums come up at the top.

ParraMan September 15th, 2004, 09:41 PM I reckon the busiest road would have to be the Westgate bridge and approaches or one of the eastern freeways as someone said. I couldn't believe how many lanes are on the eastern freeway when driving over it, but nonetheless, I am certain the northern approaches to Sydney's Harbour bridge on the Warringah Expressway would have the most lanes on a section of freeway in Australia.
For non-freeway roads, I would say Hoddle street fels the busiest, due probably to the congestion and traffic lights etc, but Springvale Rd, Stud Rd or Nepean Hwy through Cheltenham probably carry more traffic.
Favco750 November 21st, 2004, 07:36 AM The busiest road I am sure would be the geelong rd/westgate/citylink/southeastern. Remembering that this is one road and you can drive from the Rob Sergi Bridge at Geelong to Officer on the Princess Fwy or to Stony Point down the South Gippy Hwy without going through a traffic light.
Hypernovean November 21st, 2004, 07:17 PM There's no way in hell you can get to Stony Point without going through a traffic light. The Sth Gippsland Fwy doesn't even reach Cranbourne before it's back to traffic light land. Anyway, the Sth Gippsland Hwy doesn't even go to Stony Point. Or am I reading the map upside down? :)
BigVman November 21st, 2004, 08:45 PM Dude, head to Hastings and bang - no lights al the way to Westernport bay
Favco750 November 23rd, 2004, 11:48 AM True Hyper, check the melways and notice there are no purple circles on the road.
plotstyle November 23rd, 2004, 12:54 PM it took me half an hour to drive from collingwood station to richmond station today :(
Kushantaiidan December 1st, 2004, 04:04 AM Has anyone gone car counting yet?

mmm_free_wig December 23rd, 2004, 06:16 PM Anyone have access to data on the original traffic volumes question at all?

Check out this old Ozcrapers (http://www.hoogbouw.nl/OZforum/cgi-bin/topic.cgi?forum=5&topic=44) thread - The data is a few years old but there is plenty of it.
