JDRS March 20th, 2005, 07:59 PM Love the cladding, but I don't like the top and way it looks like a piece of it has just been stuck on. Looks very modern though.

redstone March 31st, 2005, 05:46 PM From Richard Meier site:
The site for the Camden Medical Centre is located at a prominent and active intersection between a commercial and a residential district in Singapore.
The 18-story building has been designed for medical offices with ground level retail and provides outpatient care to the adjacent residential community. The layered cylindrical massing is generated from its urban context. The vertical proportions are consistent with government-planned development in this part of Singapore, which encourages multiple-story development through height and floor area limitations.
The round, metal, panel-clad envelope is also a direct response to the building's location at the equator where both north and south exposures need adequate solar protection. A combination of facade layering, a structural brise soleil and sunscreens integrated into the facade system all provide protection from the sun and add to the human scale and provide relief that is sympathetic to the residential towers located to the east and southeast of the site.
Natural stone cladding at ground level retaining walls and elevator core walls provide a weighted counterpoint to the thin wall construction of the tower above. The building footprint has been minimized to allow the lush tropical landscaping that surrounds the site at the ground level to extend through and below the building, creating an outdoor public lobby. The vehicle drop-off and turnaround area is slightly depressed from street level and takes advantage of the site's sloping topography for screening from the street. Pedestrian access is along a covered walkway which weaves through the ground floor of the building and provides a City-mandated covered connection to the neighboring commercial structure.
