Main Museums in Baku

In the years following independence, a lot of attention has been poured on the museums by the government, mainly as a way of weaving and reinforcing national identity. Museums serving the Soviet ideology are now themselves part of history. E.g. the Lenin museum now houses the magnificent collection of the Museum of Carpet-Making and Folk Crafts, previously located at the Djuma Mosque in the Old Town. Sign of the times!

Azerbaijan also has a tradition of "house museums", the former houses of the famous and powerful now open to the occasional visitor and mainly of interest to the researcher with a specific interest. Some house museums host interesting event but most tend to be rather dull and repetitive, on the other hand most are free.

Genocide Memorial to be erected in mass burial site in Guba through Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s assistance

Genocide Memorial will be erected in a mass burial site in Azerbaijan’s Guba region through Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s assistance, the Foundation said in a statement.

The memorial will be dedicated to the memory of tens of thousands of victims of ethnic cleansing and aggression perpetrated by Armenian Dashnak gangs in Azerbaijani lands in early 21st century.

Most tragic genocide of the 21st century was carried out in many regions of Azerbaijan. As a result, tens of thousands of people became victims of Armenian atrocities and refugees in their own lands with many settlements razed to the ground.

Guba town and its surrounding villages also suffered the genocide. Some 122 villages were completely destroyed during the genocide carried out in the province of Guba in April-May, 1918. Along with Azerbaijanis killed with extreme cruelty during the bloody genocide, thousands of Lezghins, Jews and representatives of other nationalities were exposed to violence.

Victims of this bloody genocide have been buried in the mass burial site in Guba.

Memorial to genocide victims will be erected with a view to inform the world of criminal acts of Armenian nationalists, perpetuate memory of genocide victims and to protect national memory.

The task force established with the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation includes specialists who work on sketches of the memorial on the basis of international experience in this field.

BAKU CONTEMPORARY ART MUSEUM - Approved

The world famous architect Jean Nouvel visited Azerbaijan. J.Nouvel’s visit is related with Modern Arts Museum to be constructed in Baku. A memorial meeting with the famous architect was held in the building of Union of Artists. J.Nouvel shared his opinions and projects with regard to construction of Modern Arts Museum in Baku and presented his concept project.

About Baku Oil Museum

Baku Oil Museum composed as a result of the conceptual project competition opened by State Oil Company of Azerbaijan and one of the 4 concepts offered by TOCA named “The Liquid” became the winner.

The Project consists of the amorphous cover structure representing liquidity of oil and the Azerbaijan soil swelling on the “black gold”. 8 thematic parks as projected for the museum are placed sequentially around the pond representing the Caspian Sea. Current site is proposed to be rehabilitated to turn into a landscape with a green and new topography. The Caspian Pond and the building of Oil Museum is placed in actual North-South axis according to Azerbaijan’s actual geographical situation. A 50m watch tower is proposed to be placed on the South-West end of Caspian Pond as a dialectical answer to the amorphous cover of the Museum building and to generate a symbolic monument for Baku silhouette. Circular block of the restaurant escalates to the peak becoming the observation tower at the same time, allowing visitors to perceive map of Azerbaijan shaping the Oil museum building.

Oil Museum is using and at the same time exhibiting alternative energy resources while accommodating Azerbaijan’s history over oil. Structure of the cover resembling the map of Azerbaijan is formed of photovoltaic panels, which will reduce the energy consumption of the museum. Wind turbines placed on the site of the museum are not only using the wind potential of Baku but also suggesting more sustainable world and and reflecting the “Zeitgeist” besides the history exhibited.

Oil Museum has a footprint of 7000 sqm and accomodating a 10000 sqm with a program of temporary and permanent exhibition halls, administration areas, workshop halls, research center, cinemas, child museum, library, archive, museum shops and storage areas. Parks representing the different periods of oil history are proposed to be placed around Caspian Pond consisting of 7 theme parks, 1 production park, 2 parking areas and 2 cafes.

The target of the project is to be the center of cultural activities in Baku and contribute to the international prestige of the country. Slopy topography and the Caspian Sea view are the important guidances of the design. Building leans the hill while the floor slabs are setting back forming terraces and finally covered with a glass skin. Project offers energy saving technics and ecological sensitivity. The program includes; exhibition halls, conferance saloon, library, admin, meeting rooms, shopping units, information centers, cafeteria and a restaurant.

Flag museum is most not necessary museum in world, who da hell would want to see flags?

Why is a new contemporary arts museum being built? The current one (opened less than a year ago on Zarifa Aliyeva St) is absolutely stunning. It has superb design, lighting and art and would still be "cool" and "cutting edge" even if it was based in London, New York or Milan. The exterior building itself is nothing special (the bottom two floors of a new residential block) but the interior is superb.

I totally agree with you. Baku has a great contemporary art museum which is worth to be visited. I have been already 3 times there and it really makes me feel proud to watch very nice works of our artists as well as stare at masterpieces of Picasso and Salvador Dali.

It is located on the firwst two floors of a residential building on Yusif Safarov street. It is hard not to notice it since there are many contemporary art statues in front of the building. Believe me it is a great place to visit which costs only 5 AZN for adults, 2 AZN for students and free for children.

В Гобустане открылся музей

Состоялась церемония открытия административного здания и музея Гобустанского национального историко-художественного заповедника.

Как сообщает Trend, выступивший на мероприятии заместитель министра культуры и туризма Вагиф Алиев отметил, что для дальнейшего усовершенствования деятельности этого заповедника в начале прошлого года Президент подписал распоряжение о строительстве здания.

По его словам, здание построено за короткое время и в конце прошлого года Президент осмотрел его.

Заместитель министра напомнил, что Гобустанский заповедник включен в Список всемирного наследия ЮНЕСКО.

По словам директора заповедника Малахат Фараджевой, общая площадь заповедника составляет 4530 гектаров. Музей заповедника состоит из 12 экспозиционных залов. В них и в фондах находится более 100 тысяч археологических материалов, в том числе экспонаты наскального искусства.

Недавно с музеем ознакомились эксперты ЮНЕСКО, которые высоко оценили его, отметила Фараджева.

В Абшероне будет создан музей "Атешгях"

На территории Государственного архитектурно-исторического заповедника "Храм огнепоклонников" будет создан исторический музей.

Об этом сказал в понедельник Trend директор заповедника Рашид Бабаи.

По его словам, эта работа входит в проект по ремонту Государственного архитектурно-исторического заповедника "Храм огнепоклонников".

В мае в заповеднике начнутся ремонтные работы, которые будут проведены за счет средств государственного бюджета.

Ремонт "Храма огнепоклонников" будет очень большим, сказал Бабаи и отметил, что после ремонта в заповеднике произойдут очень большие изменения. Здесь будут проведены большие работы по благоустройству, наряду с историческим музеем "Атешгях" будет также построено и офисное здание. Кроме того, для удобства туристов здесь будет функционировать кафе и будут открыты магазины.

Ремонтные работы займут 2-3 года.

По словам Бабаи, сейчас Кабмин рассматривает вопрос о расширении территории заповедника. В ближайшее время ожидается принятие решения по данному вопросу.

В ближайшее время на территории заповедника будет открыта экспозиция, относящаяся к зороастризму, сказал директор.

Храму огнепоклонников «Атешгях» будет возвращен первозданный облик

В Азербайджане, в ходе поэтапной реализации реставрационных работ, будет возвращен первозданный облик храму огнепоклонников «Атешгях».

Как сообщил 1news.az директор храма огнепоклонников «Атешгях» Рашид Бабай, реализация этих работ начнется в мае 2012 года.

«Полгода назад на территории заповедника-храма были завершены археологические раскопки. На месте проведения раскопок были найдены уникальные предметы старины, а также выяснилось, что храм был создан в 16 веке, а не в 17-18 веках как предполагалось раньше.

Основываясь на найденных ценных археологических материалах, будут реализованы меры по возвращению первозданного облика храму огнепоклонников».

Во время поэтапного проведения реставрационных работ заповедник будет открыт для посетителей», - сказал Р.Бабай.

Напомним, что в Азербайджане храм огнепоклонников «Атешгях» («Атешгях» означает «Дом огня», «Место огня») находится на Абшеронском полуострове, в 30 км от центра Баку, на окраине селения Амираджаны в Сураханском районе.

В разное время этот храм почитатели зороастрийцы, индуисты и приверженцы сикхизма. На сегодняшний день храм объявлен Государственным историко-архитектурным заповедником - Музеем под открытым небом.

Территория храма известна таким уникальным природным феноменом, как горящие выходы естественного газа (газ в соприкосновении с кислородом загорается).

Экспозиция Государственного архитектурно-исторического заповедника "Храм огнепоклонников" ("Атешгях") будет полностью изменена.

Об этом сказал в пятницу Trend заместитель министра культуры и туризма Вагиф Алиев.

После ремонта "Храма огнепоклонников" деятельность этого заповедника будет отвечать современным стандартам, сказал он.

"Здесь, так же как и в Национальном художественно-историческом заповеднике "Гобустан", будет изменена экспозиция. Все функции будут осуществляться в электронном порядке. Посетители заповедника смогут получать информацию о деятельности храма в электронном виде", - добавил замминистра.

По его словам, этот памятник долгие годы не реставрировался. После ремонтных работ, которые начнутся на днях, будет благоустроена и расширена территория вокруг "Храма огнепоклонников".

Вокруг храма было построено очень много жилых домов, сказал Алиев. Сейчас большая их часть сносится.

В мае в заповеднике начнутся ремонтные работы, которые будут проводиться за счет средств государственного бюджета. В ходе ремонта здесь будут проведены широкие работы по благоустройству, и, наряду с историческим музеем огнепоклонников, здесь будет построено офисное здание. В Азербайджане обнаружены уникальные захоронения возрастом 2000 лет

ходе работ ОАО "Мелиорация и водное хозяйство Азербайджана" по прокладке водопровода от Гирдимчай до Агсу в северной части автомагистрали Баку-Гёйчай на территории села Келагайлы были обнаружены захоронения, датирующиеся I-II веком нашей эры.

Об этом сообщил Trend Life член Агсуинской археологической экспедиции, доктор исторических наук Гафар Джабиев.

Найденные экспонаты представляют собой уникальную красочную фаянсовую посуду - большие производственные чаны, молочники с узким горлышком и носиком, посуду для хранения жидкости, вазы на ножке, маленькие кувшины, графины и другую утварь.

Среди найденных в захоронении предметов - каменные жернова и орудия из железа, относящиеся к периоду древней албанской истории.

Членами Агсуинской археологической экспедиции НАНА был проведен осмотр территории при участии представителей соответствующих структур. Также были приняты важные меры по государственной регистрации находок.

В Баку будет создан музей флоры, фауны и нефти

На территории Бинагадинского захоронения остатков флоры и фауны четвертичного периода будет создан музей флоры, фауны и нефти под открытым небом.

Как передает 1news.az, об этом руководитель Бинагадинской палеонтологической экспедиции Национальной Академии наук Азербайджана (НАНА) Тариель Гейбатов сказал на мероприятии, состоявшемся в рамках совместного проекта НАНА, исполнительной власти Бинагадинского района и общественного объединения «Развитие регионов» по изучению захоронения.

По его словам, для создания памятника предстоит привести в первоначальное состояние 32 расположенных на указанной территории колодца. Также предстоит произвести классификацию новых видов флоры и фауны, обнаруженных в составе пород, проделать новые палеонтологические, геологические разведывательные работы, создать интернет-сайт Бинагадинского природного захоронения.

Как отметил Т.Гейбатов, на территории захоронения обнаружено 43 вида млекопитающих, 109 видов птиц, два вида пресмыкающихся, более 120 видов членистоногих. Большинство обнаруженных существ вымерли.

А как сказал руководитель общественного объединения «Развитие регионов» Сеймур Гулиев, в мире существует всего два таких памятника природы, одним из которых является Бинагадинский.

В Азербайджане обнаружена мечеть XVI века

В азербайджанском городе Агсу обнаружена древняя мечеть XVI века.

Об этом АПА сообщил начальник Агсуинской археологической экспедиции Института археологии и этнографии НАНА, доктор исторических наук Гафар Джабиев.

По его словам, руководство археологической экспедиции на основе устной информации местных жителей провели осмотр средневекового мавзолея в махалле Шихмезид города Агсу, обнаруженного случайно в результате работы тяжелой техники. В связи с этим было принято обращение к местным органам о приостановке всякого рода строительных работ.

Во время археологических раскопок сначала был обнаружен фундамент здания прямоугольной формы площадью 400 квадратных метров, построенного лицом к Каабе. Среди находок, обнаруженных в ходе раскопок, в основном, изящные, украшенные геометрическими и естественными орнаментами, глазированные изделия. Здание, скорее всего, являлось мечетью.

По словам Джабиева, сотрудник Общества по изучению и исследованию Азербайджана Джамиль Александрович-Насифи в справке от 1926 года утверждал, что в Агсу находится ровесница Шамахинской Джума-мечети, очень похожая на нее. В его заметках также упоминается мавзолей в Шихмезиде.

По утверждению аксакалов района, мечеть и мавзолей Шихмезида в 30-х годах прошлого столетия в результате проводимой советским режимом "культурной революции" были разрушены. Обнаруженные находки свидетельствуют о том, что деятельность мечети приходится на вторую половину XVI века.

Руководитель экспедиции заявил, что, несмотря на просьбу к местным органам власти огородить и сохранить очень важный с исторической точки зрения памятник, строители группы компаний "AS", проводя канализационные и водопроводные линии, нанесли памятнику культуры серьезные повреждения.
"Некоторое время назад строители этой же компании разрушили в селе Келагаи редкий памятник албанской культуры I-III веков. Согласно закону "Об охране исторических и культурных памятников", лица, нарушившие законодательство, несут уголовную, административную, дисциплинарную и гражданскую ответственность. Руководство экспедиции по этим фактам уже обратилось в соответствующие органы, в том числе в районную прокуратуру Агсу", - сказал он.
